Melinda, If you have more than one directory that needs to be excluded, it's best to use the --excluded-from=<filename>, one of my exclude files contains: /proc /dev /mnt /sys I use rsync for very large systems, 2TB+ for backups, running hourly, daily and weekly backups. Could you please give an example of the code in you want to remove these folders listed as: root cache download shop cache download Also, even with the --delete option in there the front page extension folders like _private, etc. will not be deleted and these folders are not on the site on the sending server. As I understand it --delete is suppose to delete the files on the receiving server if the same files are not on the sending server but it does not for the front page extension folders. Thank you! I can back up a directory with numerous files and folders and restore them but I have not learned how to "exclude" a specific folder from the rsync backup that runs via cron nightly. Statistics on stability?

Hello, I want to compare CentOS to Fedora and other distros on a stability/network-dependance basis. Where should I look for some published statistics on updates? New install, yum hung what to do

I just build a new server and once I was able to log on, I did a yum -y update The download (~100Mb) and updates all completed. It is now in the cleanup and hung on 56/77 it has been on that entry for a couple hours. How do I recover from this? close terminal window, open new and then: yum clean ??? Should I reboot prior to the clean?

Has anyone ever mounted their /var/lib/mysql on a tmpfs or ramfs? Are there any performance gains to be made doing this? TIA
