Problems with installation

Hi all, I try to install CentOS 4.3 for X64_64 on a new Dell PowerEdge 2950. I have two problems: 1. After booting from CD I pressed 'return' to start installation (BIOS-support for USB-keyboard works). After probing the hardware my USB-Keyboard is not working anymore. Dell removed ALL PS/2-Interfaces so I have to use USB. When I start installation with 'linux noprobe' the keyboard still is working and the installation starts. 2. After the installation starts it tries to load the storage drivers. In the case for this hardware it tries to load megaraid_sas. But it can't load the driver without an error. The installer just says:"loading megaraid_sas" for hours and hours (the complete last night). When I start with 'linux noprobe' I'm able to look at another console (alt+F2) and can try 'lsmod'. The output for megaraid_sas is 'loading' and not 'live' (again: for hours). Does anyone knows how I can solve these problems? Is kudzu not working correct for the first one? Thanx Jörg

All the online examples I have been able to find use the linux GUI. Does anyone know of a document (or mind sharing) how they installed and configured the samba 3 winbind daemon to map SID's to unix uid's/gid's? That would eliminate the need to extend the active directory schema. thanks, Greg

Any way to drop the size of the created image? Ex: disk is 100G and I no longer need all the extra space. perhaps only 20Gig image instead of the full 100Gig. Thanks, Jerry

creating disk images

I am familiar with using dd to create a disk image. dd if=/dev/hda1 of=myimge.img However, is there a way to capture the entire disk image into a file. I have 3 partitions: hda1 / hda2 swap hda3 /home and mbr How can I wrap them all into 1 image file. Thanks, Jerry

postfix conf for use external smtp

Hi all, i wonder how to configure postfix make it use externa smtp server i tried the following relayhost = my.stmp.com smtp_sasl_password_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/sasl_passwd smtp_sasl_auth_enable = yes smtp_sasl_security_options = noanonymous smtp_sasl_tls_security_options = $smtp_sasl_security_options smtp_use_tls = yes in /etc/postfix/sasl_passwd i have my.smtp.com user:password then i postmap /etc/postfix/sasl_passwd restart the postfix, but now i have this problem. Jul 14 12:06:33 garron postfix/smtp[8510]: ECA31F3009D: to=< ggarron(a)hotmail.com>, relay= my.smtp.com, delay=2, status=deferred (Authentication failed: cannot SASL authenticate to server scz.alketech.com[ 200.87.61.8 3]: no mechanism available) i tried with smtp_sasl_security_options = noanonymous smtp_sasl_security_options = noplaintext, noanonymous smtp_sasl_security_options = but never works, with the second i got the error up. with the other it does not even try to login. i also saw this. when i issue this command as root postmap -q my.stmp.com hash:sasl_passwd i go this error Jul 14 13:12:13 garron postfix/postmap[9123]: fatal: open database sasl_passwd.db: Permission denied i tried even with 777 permissions any clues? regards, Guillermo.

that doesn't work - if I linux dd=nfs:<io>:<path> the installer hangs with 'loading megaraid_sas' and no USB-device is working (so I can't see whether this is the driver included in CentOS or the driver loaded via NFS) when I try with linux expert noprobe dd=nfs:<io>:<path> I must load the network drivers by hand first but then I can not specify to load the driverdisk via NFS _and_ I'm not able to load the driver via USB-floppy/stick and linux dd=/dev/device is not working because NO usb-device is working - no usb stick - no usb floppy - no usb mouse -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Von: centos-bounces(a)centos.org [mailto:centos-bounces@centos.org] Im Auftrag von Jim Perrin Gesendet: Freitag, 14. Same thing. Install the new versions: yum update clamav clamav-devel Use perl -MCPAN to install the newest clamav perl module (if needed). Restart the services: service clamd restart service freshclam restart (depending on the names of your init files, of course) There will be a short interruption in clamd availability while it restarts, but it can't be helped. -- Bowie

It doesn't have to be an actual floppy disk (people still use those?). I usually toss all the drivers I'm going to need for an install at work onto a usb memory stick and let the installer pick them up from there. -- During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act. ok - I tried this too. But CentOS tries to find the floppy as /dev/hda which is not the device for the USB-Floppy. Dell ships one with the server because no one is integrated. You need driver disks from your vendor to load the megaraid_sas module.
