VPN Solution required

Hi I need a VPN solution that will work to a CentOS4 server thats behind a NAT'ing hardware firewall appliance. This has to be able to work on Windows and OSX and i have to access a server on the LAN. I have looked at OpenVPN but for some reason i'm having issues with generating certificates using their howto and i used the rpm from Dag. While i continue my fight with this is there any other options out there? thanks

Problem installing from CD

Good morning, I hate to bother everyone again, but I'm having some more trouble. I have a new machine with an MSI RS480M2-IL motherboard (ATI Xpress200 chipset) and a Hammer DVD Writer (shows up as a Matshita DVD-RAM SW-9585). I get the CD to start (in text mode - don't know why I can't do VGA or better), and it asks me What type of media contains the packages to be installed. I choose CDROM and then it says: The CentOS-4 x86_64 CD was not found in any of your CDROM drives. Please insert the CentOS x86_64 CD and press OK to retry. The funny thing is that this is Disk 1 of x86_64. Any ideas? I've tried a couple of different download sites and I always get the same problem. TIA! Jeff

Terminal Server/File Server Set up

Would like to know whether there exist a clear simple walk through to set CentOS 4 up as a Terminal Server or in the alternate, as a file and print server. I'm new but have googled but come up with some rather complicated issues. I trust someone can help on this forum. Regards All, Jughead

We found that the 'data protection' features of software raid1/raid5 worked, but typically when a drive failed, the linux kernel was unable to provide useful service until it was rebooted and/or the failed drive removed. This was in the 2.4 days; things may be different now. We have since moved to 3ware hardware raid with better success in terms of continuing to provide service through a drive failure event. Came to the same conclusion you did. We use 3Ware on our systems that require plenty of disk space, but don't require high performance. If we need the latter, then it's SCSI RAID. HTH Mark

gnome 2.12 via yum?

Hello, I was asked a question regarding centos that i do not know the answer. I don't use gnome or x on any box i deploy for production use so haven't checked in to this. CentOS4 comes with gnome 2.8 from what i was told, the question is is it possible to do an update rpmwise to gnome 2.12 via yum? If so, what repositories do i need to enable to pull this off and what if any lookouts should i be aware of? Thanks. Dave.

Choice of FTP server

I have taken over a number of RH/FC/CentOS servers recently. I am trying to upgrade all of them to CentOS 4.3 and configure them to only use software that can be managed via yum/apt repositories. One of the choices made by my predecessor was the pure-ftpd server over vsftpd. I cannot find a repo to get this rpm from and am wondering if anyone on the list has any practical experience with both and can give me some insight as to whether it would be better to run vsftpd (more likely to be updated after a security update via yum) versus pure-ftpd (very few updates needed in it's history).
