how to swap CTRL and Caps Lock in console mode

Hi ALL, I am not able to find the file which controls the keyboard mapping. I would like to swap CTRL and Caps Lock keys. NO, thhere is no problem with X11. That part was easy to fix. I've commented out one line in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. I would like to swap the keys in __console__ mode YES, I've modified the file /lib/kbd/keymaps/i386/qwerty/us.map.gz It did not make any difference. Keys CTRL and Caps Lock are not swapped. Any hint/advice/RTFM_pointer is more than welcome Igor -- I used to think I was indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.

Keyboard layout switching bug: workaround?

Hi, I'm an Austrian writer living in Montpezat (South France). I've been 100% GNU/Linux for the past five years, and I recently switched from Slackware to CentOS, for the sake of comfort. Overall impression: I like it! I have a few problems to solve yet in my migration effort, mostly minor annoyances. First things first. I need three different keyboard layouts: de, fr_CH and fr. I'm used to toggle between these. Now this doesn't seem to work with CentOS 4.3. (My system is in french, so I have to translate Menu entries back to english, I don't know if they will be accurate...). Anyway. Applications -> Preferences -> Keyboard opens the keyboard configuration window. There's a section called "Agencement" in french, guess this will be "layout". When I try to add a layout, I get the following error message: (again, translating back from french) --- XKB configuration error during activation. Probably an internal X server error. ... --- I close the error message window. The new layout seems to be added. But when I try to toggle keyboard layouts (default: pressing [Alt] + [AltGr]), I get something that could be best described as a martian layout. Lots of nonsense. Now how could I fix this? When using XFCE with Slack, before the days of a keyboard switching plugin, I just manually defined some commands like 'setxkbmap [some options] -layout fr_CH', and then assigned these to some keyboard shortcuts. Is this a viable solution here? Or what would you recommend? This is rather annoying, since I type text in three languages (I also work as a translator), and I'm a bit stuck here. Any suggestions? CentOS mailing list probe message (fwd)

With the latest message I send to the CentOS list I got this strange 'probe' message. The included bounce example has nothing to do with my email-adres, but rather with someone subscribed to the list. So it seems that somehow the mailinglist manager is sending bounces to the wrong email-adres. Or I do not understand the 'probe' message (and the included bounce message) at all. My GNU-CentOS Desktop

I took a lil trip and decided to bring my rhel-converted-to-centos desktop with me. I have a few screenshots at http://s78.photobucket.com/albums/j90/centosdesktop/ In addition to CentOS Base/Extras/Plus, I have kbs and rpmforge repos. As you can see in one screenshot i have yum utils and about 80 protected packages. I've added Open-Office.org 2.0.1, Gnuchess, artwork from Gnome and wine from kbs repo to run the chess apps/windows media player. RHEL havoc tool

Hi, I'm looking for a tool that breaks a working system (in one or more ways) with the sole purpose to fix it again. The aim would be to use this tool for several debugging techniques sessions in our local LUG. When I was invited to speak at a local LUG I was wondering what was the best way to demonstrate some of the tools (and more importantly) the way to tackle a problem. And nothing would be better than not knowing what is wrong so attendants can follow my reasoning in trying to fix a problem. I heard from someone who followed the RHCE exams, that they use such a tool to test the knowledge and it would be nice to have something like that in Open Source, if it does not already exist. Yum priorities plugin

Hi All, I have put the priorities plugin online at: http://danieldk.org/code/yum/ This plugin allows you to associate priorities to repositories. Packages from high-priority repositories are protected from being upgraded with packages from low-priority repositories. Instructions can be found in the README file, read the part about "check_obsoletes" with care. Please keep in mind that this is mostly untested and thus beta code. Have fun! -- Daniel
