Hi,
I have just installed the server cd 4.2 and was wondering what I would
need to install to add xcfe4?
I wanted to install a light weight desktop for playing around with.
Do I have to install x11 and what packages would I install.
I have added xcfe4 to Centos 4.2 after I had installed gnome and such.
But not sure about with the server cd.
Thanks
I have a couple CentOS boxes running in our DMZ and although they are
running behind a firewall, I'm also running iptables. One thing I cannot
do it yum update. What ports are required for this? I have outbound http
open and I can browse to sites using firefox.
If I run an ethereal scan the process seems to stop with DNS queries,
but I can resolve mirrorlist.centos.org without a problem. Anyone know
what the problem could be?
If I stop iptables everything works of course.
Thanks,
James
hi all,
I will like to test CentOS 4.2 on alpha platform. I have a Digital
Powerstation 433au with 128 MB of RAM and 4 GB Scsi disk. Does this
hardware meets hardware requeriments for CentOS 4.2??
Thanks.

A while back, there was mention that the release of CentOS 4.3 would
bring a ppc32 version. Is this still in the works? If so, is it
scheduled to be released at the same time as the more popular releases,
or at a later time?
Thanks,
Barry

That's a good question... I'm using yum with dag's repository added. I
could have sworn that it had an old version when I tried it earlier, but
now I see 0.88. Ah well.
BTW... Why are the db files packaged separately? I would think it would
cause confusion if both freshclam and yum are updating the db files.

Interesting. I had not looked at your repo.
Your repo does have at least one extra RPM that I was looking for
(perl-Mail-SPF-Query), but yum says it's missing a dependency.
Error: Missing Dependency: perl(Net::CIDR::Lite) >= 0.15 is needed by
package perl-Mail-SPF-Query
Error: Missing Dependency: perl(Net::CIDR::Lite) is needed by package
perl-Mail-SPF-Query
This doesn't seem to be in any of the repositories. I found
perl-Net-CIDR, but that doesn't satisfy the dependency.

Sorry if the subject is a bit vague. I wasn't sure how to summarize this.
I am building a new server (CentOS4.2) and I am trying to stay with RPM
installs as much as possible. The problem is with packages that I would
like to keep more up to date than allowed by the repositories. This will be
a mailserver doing spam and virus checking. As such, I want SpamAssassin
and ClamAV to be as up-to-date as possible. The current rpm for ClamAV is 6
months and 3 releases behind.
What is the best way to keep these packages up to date while avoiding
dependency issues in yum?

Hi,
I guess the subject says it all..
I am thinking about combining a few servers onto a single server since
they mostly do nothing much at all which would mean there would be less
load on the UPS and a lot less noise in my office..
Since VMWare server is now free its probably the perfect time to do it..
The only issue is getting the VMWare up and running.. I would prefer to
run it on CentOS as the host OS but if it means recompiling half the
system and not being able to use standard updates then it will probably
just be a pain..
Has anyone set this up on CentOS yet and if so what did you have to do
to get it running?
Thanks
Here are 2 different 4Gb USB drives.
Flash memory: http://www.ecost.com/ecost/shop/detail~dpno~339754.asp $143
Mini Drive: http://www.ecost.com/ecost/shop/detail~dpno~306189.asp $80
How does one load Centos on these? Can you boot from CD, point to an
FTP server for OS, and install on the USB drive, eventhough the
system has its own harddrive?
Does the install have to be for a specific system? Of course right
now, I only have one USB bootable laptop.
Oh, and ecost is one of the best places to get things like SD
memory. Watch their budget countdown...
