windows XP pro can not access samba share folder.

Hi, I know that this question has been asked many times but i can't find the correct solution from anywhere. I have 4 computer on the LAN connected as follow. comp1(WinXP)---------------------------------> hub1---->router comp2(winXP)---------------------------------> hub1---->router comp3(WinXP)wireless ---> access point----> hub1--->router comp4(CentOS 4.2)-------------------------------------->router I have samba installed on CentOS 4.2 with SELinux enable, everything is up 2 dated. I use swat to make a share folder. testparm doesn't show anything suspicious. Connecting to samba share folder from the same CentOS machine is possible. However, my Windows XP machines can only see my linux machine through network neigbourhood but they can not access it. Does this have anything to do with SELinux? Any suggestion is welcomed. problem with notebook

i have a notebook, Gateway M520. when i try to install centos 4.2, a kernel panic message stop the instalation.... somebody have the same problem, what i have to do to solve the problem.... my cd's work fine in another pc....

ssh attack

Hi, I get ssh connect attempts all the time, to my servers at home and at work. I've noticed lately they come from a certain ip address, hitting every 3 or 4 seconds, trying 50 or 100 different user names and passwords. And I get these sweeps from 2 or 3 ip addresses a day. I guess this is an automated attempt to guess a user/pass and break into a system. I tried to secure ssh better by putting in an AllowUsers line in sshd_config. Then I thought tcp wrappers and just putting in my own addresses in /etc/hosts.allow would be even better, until I found out that all mail to my email server would be rejected. I have 2 questions. One, is there anything you can do to stop these attempts, other than not running ssh? And two, do those ssh attempts every 3 or 4 seconds slow down a box, or put any strain on it? John

Problem with intercept squid and boinc

Hi, I have configured a squid httpd proxy cache in intercept/transparent mode. The problem I have is that the boinc client from setiathome have problem connecting to its server. If I disable squid interception, all works fine. I see in the access_log from squid that the last request its a POST Anyone have seen this problem? How can I debug it. FTP Server and IPTables?

I'm having a heck of a time getting vsftpd to work properly. When Iptables are OFF, it works fine, and when iptables is on, it dies. Socks server

Hi, I need to setup a socks server on my Centos 4.2 box. I need to have windows clients connect to a remote socks server to force all their traffic through a content filtered proxy server. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good socks server that will work with Centos Thanks Mace

Hi, Just a quick note to see if anyone else noted the changes in yum in the updates. I've disabled thhe new format until i can verify if it works? As i rebuilt yumex from Scientific Linux (RHEL SRPM rebuild) and i have not enabled centosplus i don't wanna mess my system. jfs directory modification times in centosplus

I'm running Centos 4.2 with kernel-2.6.9-22.0.2.106.unsupported and jfsutils-1.1.10-3.2 from the centosplus distribution, with a jfs partition for my maildir mail spool, accessed using the dovecot IMAP server. It seems that dovecot doesn't properly track new incoming email, apparently because the modification time on .../Maildir/new doesn't get updated when a new message is linked into it from .../Maildir/tmp. CENTOS 4.2 crashes when ipod plugged in

A friend sent me an ipod to office to transfer music to it. It had a firewire cable and I have an Audigy soundcard with a firewire port. But when I connected the ipod to the firewire port, I got a lot of weird numbers and interrupt errors and the system crashed badly. Is there some problem with firewire support in the kernel? -- Roger D.
