Converting from WBEL 4 to CentOS 4.

Hi all I want to migrate a server from Whitebox Linux 4 to CentOS 4. I think I should be able to do it without reinstallation, as both are RHEL clones...Can someone please tell me how? and if there are any pitfalls doing it on a production server and doing further updates from CentOS updates? Hi, I have been using Centos since 3.0. I have been upgrading regularly without any major problem. 4.1 to 4.2 has been a total disaster. I ran yum update, it went through and a couple of hours later I rebooted and X froze with the screen just being just fuzz [regular rectangles, orange, green...] and the keyboard froze. Could not do a alt-ctrl-backspace, nor a Alt-F1-6 nor Alt-Ctrl-Del. I have a ATI9200 with a Samsung 710N [It only works at 1240x1024 @ 60Hz, it will not work at any other frequency] This is the same hardware as I was running with 4.1. I had to reinstall 4.1, now I cannot run yum update to get the security updates, it tries to upgrade to 4.2. 1. Is there a way to just get the updates for 4.1 and not 4.2 2. Any suggestion on what went wrong with X. It's not just the frequency display because the keyboard also froze. Thanks

proxying rsync through http

Hi All, I'm trying to get rsync to proxy through an apache httpd server to an rsync server. On the proxy, which has a direct connection to the internet, I've stopped the firewall and unset HTTP_PROXY and RSYNC_PROXY. I've configured the httpd to allow proxy requests as follows: <IfModule mod_proxy.c># ProxyRequests On <Proxy *> Order deny,allow Deny from all Allow from .mydomain.ie </Proxy> # # Enable/disable the handling of HTTP/1.1 "Via:" headers. # ("Full" adds the server version; "Block" removes all outgoing Via: headers) # Set to one of: Off | On | Full | Block # ProxyVia On AllowCONNECT 443 563 873 i've tested rsync going direct to the rsync server and it works. On the client, which is on a private network, I've stopped the firewall and I've set RSYNC_PROXY=http://my-proxy-server.ie:80 HTTP_PROXY=http://my-proxy-server.ie:80 When I try to rsync to the external rsync server I get the following error. rsync: getaddrinfo: http //oldtraf: Servname not supported for ai_socktype rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(94) Any ideas what I'm missing Tony -- Tony Molloy. Installing Tomact as a service... update

So I've been trying to use this site and the daemon script here. http://www.linuxjava.net/howto/webapp/#tomcat It works so far. I mean, at least the server starts, I can get to the site, etc. So far, so good. The only problem is, for some reason when I start tomcat using root everything runs fine. When I start tomcat using this script, however, I get this.... FATAL [http-8080-Processor25] (DatasourceConnectionProvider.java:47) - Could not find datasource: java:comp/env/jdbc/sybDB javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: Name jdbc is not bound in this Context Any idea what the difference would be? symantic ghost with centos 4.2

I am trying to use symantic 8.X and ghost a disk. I get "Apllication Error 29004. Read sector failure, result = 1, drive = 0, sectors 2071692247 to 2071692255" when trying to ghost the disk. anyone done this successfully? symantic supports ext3. Thanks, jerry

Setting up Tomcat as a service under CentOS 4?

I've found about a dozen different ways to skin this cat (no pun intended). Everything from creating a script in /etc/init.d/ to using jsvc. I was hoping someone out there, those of you out there who run Tomcat in this manner, how did *you* set this up? I can't seem to get it right. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Or even direction to an authoritative document. Preston
