My Centos 4.1 only accept connections from localhost, my file conf is default. error: ssh: connect to host 192.168.1.78 port 22: No route to host thanks

Server without keyboard

I'm trying to set up a small machine as a server using a Via EPIA SP 8000E mini ITX motherboard. It's got a fanless Eden processor and I'm using a SATA hard drive. The CD drive is removed, as I only wanted it to install CentOS and don't anticipate needing it again. My problem is running this machine with CentOS without the keyboard. I've set the BIOS to ignore keyboard errors so it boots OK, but I can't get it to restart without a keyboard attached. Logging into it as root via ssh and telling it to shutdown -h now works fine, but when I tell it to shutdown -r now it gets as far as the "Restarting system." message then just freezes. Is there any known solution to this? Thanks. Dave Fletcher

Anyone use a Rio Cali Sport with CentOS 4.2?

My wife does and here's the problem. It automatically mounts the flash memory of the player. But it doesn't mount the SD card slot. I used Ubuntu 5.10 recently and it mounted both of them. Both as separate USB sticks. How do I get CentOS to do the same thing? Or can it not discern that two USB flash devices are plugged in? Preston

I am running xfontsel. I dont seem to be able to select an helvetica font > 34 points. I am looking for something around 75 points. I dont seem to be able to find anything that large. Am I missing something? Jerry

starting a java application as a service

I have a single requirement to launch a java application on startup as a service. The application is shipped in a file called jes.jar. It requires three arguments: a dotted quad IP address, an initial service port, and a translated service port. I can get the application running as a console command. Can someone point me to a site that documents how to script a sys V init.d style script so that I can run this as a daemon process? I tried copying a script in the age old fashion but I seem to be missing something(s). Lastly, I vaguely recall that there is a way to capture the pid of a program started in the shell but I cannot find any reference to it. I seem to recall that the construct $! or $$ contained the value of the last program run. Can anyone here confirm this and/or provide an example. Thanks for the history lessons, Bryan. This suggests to me a GCC flag -fForgive2.9xUsers which would accept syntax and grammar from code valid to the 2.9x compiler (warn rather than barf). This isn't the compat compiler/lib suite (which is a separate option), but is a grace-rather-than-pedantics approach to compiler evolution.
