kernel sourcecode ?

Hi, I've just installed CentOS 4.2 I must recompile the kernel and for that i used to do a "yum install kernel-sourcecode". Now, it doesn't works anymore. In /usr/src/kernels/... compiling gives an error straight from the start. Where is now kernel's source code ? Warm Regards, Mário Gamito

gnome command line setup control method

Is am searching for a command line program that I can run to setup options for users in gnome. Is there one. I want to automatically setup the Applications -> Prefences removeable storage remove desktop screen saver and sound values. Is there a command line control program? Thanks, Jerry

raid 1 problem

Hi! A few days back ...I upgraded using yum update. I did this on 3 machines of which 2 of the machines are mirrors. I have no problems w/the other 2 machines which leads me to believe that the fault lies in 2.6 but rather I think I have a hard drive failure. while the system is trying to boot up. it goes to: grub stage 2....that's the first thing I seem to find outside of taking forever to find the drives. then when it is booting....lots of hdc errors here's an excerpt from /var/log/messages: ide: failed status error: status=0x10 { SeekComplete } please be gentle w/me as, yes, I do run raided systems but just started doing it recently and I have no experience troubleshooting it etc but very willing to learn. I know, I probably don't have all the info that y'all probably need but I will surely get it and if someone would like to take this off the msg list, that would sure be ok as well. I swapped data cables w/others but this system still complains the same stuff. I think it's a hard drive but I want y'all to teach me how to really diagnose this. Also, say it's a hard drive. In this system, the raided drives are 1 maxtor 100gb and 1 wd 100gb....Now would it be possible to put a 200 gb in place of the faulty drive? Could that extra space be used...I don't care one way other just wondering is all thx y'all, John Rose -- My wife is always bitching..."I'm so sick of diapers!". OT: Apache Script Problem

I recently moved a web site from an old Windows NT machine running Apache to a server running CentOS 4.1. Everything is working fine on the site except for one perl script. I have the standard directory setup: /var/www/html /var/www/cgi-bin etc We had to change our scripts when we moved them because they had windows paths. We have a problem with one script called: contactp.pl It's located at: /var/www/cgi-bin [root@server cgi-bin]# pwd /var/www/cgi-bin [root@server cgi-bin]# ls -l: -rwxrwxrwx 1 apache root 1047 Oct 20 15:32 contactp.pl When the script is called I get a 500 Internal Server Error. The error log gives me the following two errors: [Thu Oct 20 15:43:35 2005] [error] (2)No such file or directory: exec of '/var/www/cgi-bin/contactp.pl' failed, referer: http://www.mysite.com/contactus.html [Thu Oct 20 15:43:35 2005] [error] Premature end of script headers: contactp.pl, referer: http://www.mysite.com/contactus.html The file is definitely there and apache owns it. I'm not sure what else to look for now. Anyone have any suggestions? I've googled for the premature headers error and I'm thinking it's because of the first error? Could be wrong. Other scripts in the same directory run fine, and I can run the script at the command line. Any help is appreciated. James

yum update in background

Availability of unsupported kernel for 4.2 or compiling reiser into 4.2 kernel

Two related questions. 1. When is the unsupported version of 2.6.9.22 likely to be available? I need to access reiser filesystems so Im currently running on the .11unsupported kernel. 2. Has anyone successfully compiled reiser into the 2.6.9.22 kernel? I am getting errors in stree.c but I cant find a solution on the net? Thanks Daveh

I'm trying to build driver for hpt374 raid controler on a new installation of contOS 4.2 followin the instroctions in this thread http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?viewmode=flat&order=DESC&… It says that I should run "yum install kernel-sourcecode" to get the files I need and it will create the path /usr/src/linux-2.6.9-5.0.3.EL which is needed. rebuilding mod_perl

If I say 'yum install mod_perl', on my CentOS-3 system, I get one built to work with the system's stock perl 5.8.0. I have built perl 5.8.7 and installed it in /usr/local/perl-5.8.7. How can I get the src rpm for mod_perl and build it against the newer perl? -- -ste

lvm over software raid error

Came across a strange problem, I have a software raid1 with LV sitting on top. When I try to mirror an existing LV to a new LV with the tar command I get these error messages. mount /dev/vg00/base.centos /mnt/orig mount /dev/vg00/test /mnt/new cd /mnt/orig tar cf - ./|(cd /mnt/new; tar xf - ) ... File shrank by 406815 bytes; padding with zeros ... Read error at byte 49152, reading 10240 bytes: Input/output error Do I have data corruption? If I removed the snapshots, will the padding errors disappear?
