CentOS 3.5 to 3.6 yum dependency issues

When I do a yum update I get a couple of dependency issues: I see this one on every box I try to upgrade.. Package nptl-devel needs glibc-devel = 2.3.2-95.33, this is not available. I've only seen this one a couple of times.. Package up2date needs rpm >= 4.2.3-24_nonptl, this is not available. Tim

Yum Dependency errors

Greetings, This is a new install on CentOs 4.1 dvd from a couple weeks ago. The initial yum updates worked fine but now There are about 15 things that get dependency errors and yum will not install the updates. Rebuild the RPM database, removed /var/cache/yum/* , yum update yum for the latest version and the errors still exist. When you query the rpm database the dependency are installed. Can not get remote X connections to work on CentOS 4.1

I've encountered a strange problem in CentOS 4.1. I've never had this problem before, and I've been using X Windows since 1990, but I can't get remote X connections to work: $ hostname host00 $ echo $DISPLAY :0.0 $ xhost + access control disabled, clients can connect from any host $ rsh host01 $ xdpyinfo -d host00:0.0 xdpyinfo: unable to open display "host00:0.0" Both hosts are running CentOS 4.1 and SELinux is disabled. I know I can get this to wok with ssh, but that is not the point. Also, it's not a host name resolution problem, as substituting the IP address in the above command gives the same error. Finally, note that there is about a 3-4 second delay before the error message appears. Any recent changes in X that I am unaware of? Alfred

Upgrade=Broken x86_64

I just completed the upgrade of everything, and after a reboot, I have got some broken software. I am getting error messages from the NCAR command language that "Specified Workstation is NOT Open. In addition, a system call to opngks_() could not open "wrf_mass_plots.ncgm" which is the file it needs to read to produce the metafile. What changed that would cause software to think the workstation is not open? Next question.. is it possible to undo the upgrade, or would I be better off doing a clean install of system files should this breakage not be repairable with simplicity? Sam

Perl modules not working properly when installed via yum?

Hello, all - I've been dealing with this problem for quite a while, and most of my solutions have just been dirty hacks. I'd like to find an appropriate solution. I've installed perl modules in the past via yum. Sure, they get installed - but none of my perl applications can find them. I know that this is a long outstanding issue, because I have yet to find a real solution. Since I know nothing of perl, I'll go ahead and ask the stupid questions here. Is @INC defined anywhere in the system, where I can add paths to it, to include additional modules? Is inclusion of modules via @INC recursive, or does each path need to be defined seperately? I've tried to define $PERL5LIB, as I was told that this would be prepended to @INC, but this does not seem to be the case. Anyone want to lend a hand with this? I would greatly appreciate it. IP Management SW

Not a CentOS specific question, but I'll try anyway. :) I've decided I need a proper IP Management solution. In a perfect world I'd like something like QIP or NetID, but I have a feeling that's too much so ask, so I'll go for DHCP/DNS management. :) There's alot of different opensource products out there, but I'd rather get recommendations than spend days configuring all of them just for evaluation. :) Regards, Harald

The lates version of SAMBA is 3.0.10 for Centos yet the latest release from Sambas website is 3.0.20b? Where would I be able to find a more up to date package for Centos that has all the new features as well as the security fixes? I've tried samba website and I'm not sure if I can use the rpms for redhat 9 or fedora 4 ones with Centos?? Regards, -Paul
