Resolving a yum conflict

How can I resolve a yum conflict? A lot of other packages depend on the conflicting file. Thanks. I can tell you that the Pentium D CPUs work fine with CentOS 3 and kernel 2.4.21-32.0.1.ELsmp. Presumably the newer kernels incorporate more support for these CPUs, possibly activating additional features not supported by earlier kernels. But they work fine with the older kernels. Bug 147823, <https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=147823>, seems to describe the problem -- basically, there are/were issues with hyperthreading and dual-core processors where the machine would run slowly when hyperthreading was on. With hyperthreading off, the machine acted like it had two ``real'' processors and worked fine. There's supposed to be a fix in RHEL3 U6 (and presumably there's a similar bug for RHEL4 and an update for RHEL4 U2). lsof with offset

I did something simple; on one window did more/etc/mail/sendmail.cf on another window did lsof -o -b -p XXX -w where XXX is the process number. The SIZE column does not change to OFFSET! the size reflects the size of sendmail.cf - I was hoping the "-o" would change the SIZE column to OFFSET column and show at what offset the program has read into the file? AM I doing something wrong? I am trying to find a way to tell how far a given program has read in a file. THanks so much. Jerry

OpenIPMI on a SunFire v20z

Hi all, New to the list and (mostly) new to CentOS. We have just moved from running RHEL to CentOS on our main production servers. Anyway, I am configuring a couple of new SunFire v20z servers here at the moment and trying to get the systems' management interfaces to work fully under CentOS. First issue was trying to install the openipmi RPM from the CD that came with the SunFires, this RPM installs the source for the openipmi kernel drivers and then builds them as kernel modules. First I had to get the kernel source installed (i used the kernel SRPM to install, then did an rpmbuild to create the patched source directory), however I'm now receiving a whole bunch of errors whilst trying to compile the IPMI driver 'ipmi_devintf_src.c' file because of what looks to be incompatibilities with the kernel. My presumption is that this openipmi driver is intented for 2.4.x kernels. So I moved on and discovered that openipmi is built into the 2.6.9-11.EL kernel which is installed by default. Doesn't CentOS use udev?) I installed the userland ipmitool software and all was peachy. ...But my excitement and fun was ruined when I actually tried to use the tool: [root@langoria ~]# ipmitool sel Could not open device at /dev/ipmi0 or /dev/ipmi/0: No such file or directory Get SEL Info command failed Seems like the OpenIPMI drivers aren't binding to the device? Basically, I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience running openipmi on CentOS 4.1 running the default 2.6.9-11.EL kernel and can offer any assistance to me? Motherboards

Does anyone have any experience with Super-Micro brand motherboards // dual Xeon cpu's? Had to swap out my Tyan piece of junk and going back with the S-M board. I believe it has similar north/southbridge chips on it -- at least they are the intel MCH ICH5R and PXH plus the 82546GB. One area that the Tyan board was seriously lacking in was in the hardware monitoring department. The S-M board uses a winbond 83627HF chip. Another area I'm wondering about is with the SATA controller. Supposedly the ICH5R supports Raid 0, 1, and JBOD's, but does CentOS handle the sata raid without difficulty? Tnx.. -- Snowman

broadcastclient does not work on CentOS 4.1

This ntp.conf file works fine under RedHat 9: authenticate no #enable auth driftfile /etc/ntp/drift keys /etc/ntp/ntp.keys server 127.127.1.0 fudge 127.127.1.0 stratum 10 trustedkey 1 enable bclient broadcastclient However, it doesn't work on CentOS 4.1. ntpd complains with this error message: Unable to listen for broadcasts, no broadcast interfaces available Has anyone gotten ntp broadcastclient to work under CentOS? This is very similar to the problem explained by this email thread: http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-questions/2004-August/057010.html Any help is appreciated.
