NFS mount on Centos 7 crashing

Hello, We have a VM (under KVM - a VPS service by our ISP) running CentOS 7. On it we have 2 NFS mounts, one for backup and one as a live file system (where there are two user homes as well): ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- # cat /etc/fstab /dev/mapper/centos-root / xfs defaults 0 0 UUID=7a3ae70a-8ef3-463b-8f5b-be4e2e7be894 /boot xfs defaults 0 0 /dev/mapper/centos-swap swap swap defaults 0 0 10.201.40.34:/data/col1/noc-bkups-1 /mnt/dd2500-1 nfs auto,noatime,nolock,bg,nfsvers=3,intr,tcp,actimeo=1800 0 0 10.201.40.34:/data/col1/hesperia-mount /hesperiamount nfs auto,noatime,nolock,bg,nfsvers=3,intr,tcp,actimeo=1800 0 0 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This setup has been working fine for over a year, even under significant load, without issues. However, yesterday, the "live" NFS mount (/hesperiamount) has started crashing. When bootingeverything is fine, but very soonafter boot we noticed that we lose communication to the mount, although the remote storage system is accessible(without reporting any errors) and no network issues have occurred. We found that dmesg reports failures with call traces (2 examples): https://pastebin.com/GVSDbxFr https://pastebin.com/WujKQuHG This happens repeatedly/consistently (after several reboots) so we have been forced to replace the NFS mount with a local mount (on a new local virtual hard disk), to restore normal system operation. So the fstab has now become: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- # cat /etc/fstab /dev/mapper/centos-root / xfs defaults 0 0 UUID=7a3ae70a-8ef3-463b-8f5b-be4e2e7be894 /boot xfs defaults 0 0 /dev/mapper/centos-swap swap swap defaults 0 0 /dev/mapper/vg2-lv1 /hesperiamount xfs defaults 0 0 10.201.40.34:/data/col1/noc-bkups-1 /mnt/dd2500-1 nfs auto,noatime,nolock,bg,nfsvers=3,intr,tcp,actimeo=1800 0 0 # 10.201.40.34:/data/col1/hesperia-mount /hesperiamount nfs auto,noatime,nolock,bg,nfsvers=3,intr,tcp,actimeo=1800 0 0 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note that when I later mounted manually the same NFS share on the same box (in order to copy data from it using rsync), it did not crash (but it only had reads and no writes in this scenario). The share was manually mounted with the following command: # mount -vv -o auto,noatime,nolock,bg,nfsvers=3,intr,tcp,actimeo=1800 -t nfs 10.201.40.34:/data/col1/hesperia-mount /hesperiamount2 Questions: * Is this a known issue/bug? * Have we possibly made any NFS misconfigurations (which however have not caused any errors for about a year now)? * What could we do to prevent the error from occurring again? sidekiq receives SIGHUP when started via ssh -t

Hi, I have a couple of ideas how to fix it, but I'm trying to figure out what's going on first. I mainly start this program (sidekiq) on Debian systems, and it might be my first time running it under CentOS, so my conjecture is that it has to do with differences between distributions... Now then, when I run it this way: ssh user(a)example.com '. ~/.bash_profile && rvm 2.3.1@gemset1 && cd path/to/site && bundle exec sidekiq -C config/sidekiq.yml -d -L log/sidekiq.log' it daemonizes itself and stays running. When I add -t switch (ssh -t ...), it gets terminated by SIGHUP. On Ubuntu it stays running in both cases. What's happening here? Any suggestions are welcome. Regards, Yuri

delay in establishing network connectivity

hello, centos 7 If the system (wired static IP#) is powered down and stayed powered down for some period: let say 48 hours or so .... when it is rebooted again it can not establish a network connectivity for some time: 7 to 15 minutes and then everything network wise is fine... I am unable to spot any errors in various system logs. If you think this is on the OS/system side .... where do you think I should look to hunt down some parameter or settings that maybe causing this? thank you, F-

Auth failure messages

Folks I am using sendmail as my mail server. SELINUX is disabled. I observe messages in Centos 7 (and 6) in /var/log/messages, similar to: saslauthd[2765]: do_auth : auth failure: [user=bettie] [service=smtp] [realm=] [mech=pam] [reason=PAM auth error] I guess that this is because somebody tried to access one of the SMTP ports with a logon attempt. This is understandable; there are crackers out there. I'd like to block SMTP completely from the originating sender (by dropping the IP packets), but don't know how to figure out what the IP address is. I don't see anything in the "maillog" that, for example, has the name "bettie" or some other clue. The only thing I see is a message like sendmail[5452]: v9HIoBox005452: [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA with a close timestamp, but I'm reluctant to tie the two log entries together. Is there some log, or log setting that might enable me to tie the do_auth error to a specific IP address? I'm very reluctant to change mail servers to postfix or something like that. Thanks David

I just read about gdevilspie on this list the other day and downloaded it for my mate desktop. Although it installed, it complains that python-wnck is not installed. Does anyone know if it is supposed to work on mate? I would have expected it to install python-wnck as a requirement if not already installed?

Dahdi get latest

I am trying to use dahdi complete 2.11.1 with a 4.13 kernel. - NOT working for know reasons. I tried applying two patches but still get compile errors. AHHH! How do I just use git to get the latest with the fixes ???? This command did not work - I still get the errors. git clone git://git.asterisk.org/dahdi/linux dahdi-linux Thanks, Jerry
