All, This list is a "Members Only" posting list ... this is good because it prevents us from getting hundreds of Viagra commercials and such. You can only post to the list with the e-mail address that you subscribed with. If you post from another e-mail address, it will tell you that "Your post needs to be approved by a Moderator." I just want to tell everyone that I normally _DO_NOT_ approve these posts to the list. It has nothing to do with the post not being good or me not liking you or your post :) What it does have to do with is SPAM. We get hundreds of e-mails per day to each list as SPAM, and it would take several hours each day to touch each every e-mail from a non-member and verify it was relevant and not spam. I am sorry, but I just don't have time to do this. If you post to a CentOS mailing list and you get one of those messages, you should repost your comments using the correct e-mail address that you subscribed with. You do not need to worry about removing the old post, as I will delete it along with all the others. Sorry for the inconvenience, Johnny Hughes

CentOS 4.1 - 'Older' JVM Issues

Hi Just installing a machine to replace our dev server. Currently the dev server runs many different JVM versions depending on the app the developer is working on. Some of these require older versions of java. Newer versions work fine out of the box, eg 1.4.x however i'm running into the following issue when trying to run apps against 1.3.1_02 which i have to be able to run on this box Unable to load native library: /export/disk1/opt/jdk1.3.1_02/jre/lib/i386/libjava.so: symbol __libc_wait, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference anyone know any workarounds? thanks

Racoonctl tool under Centos4

Hi all, We have established several VPN tunnels between two centos4 firewalls and all works OK. But racoonctl tool returns (command used: racoonctl show-sa esp) every time this error: 08000000 18c09109 racoonctl: connect: No such file or directory. This error is produced when /var/racoon/racoon.sock file doesn't exists. I will try to put "adminsok enabled" and "adminsock /var/racoon/racoon.sock" params on racoon.conf whitout success. You can run "dmesg" after the modprobe to see the results of the module being loaded. If you see something along the lines of SCSI subsystem driver Revision: 1.00 scsi0 : Adaptec AIC7XXX EISA/VLB/PCI SCSI HBA DRIVER, Rev 6.2.36 <Adaptec 3960D Ultra160 SCSI adapter> aic7899: Ultra160 Wide Channel A, SCSI Id=7, 32/253 SCBs You'll know it loaded. Of course youse will make reference to Initio, not Adaptec, but you get the idea. If that works, then you should be able to add the following line to /etc/modprobe.conf: alias scsi_hostadapter initio If that doesn't work, you'll have to track down the right module for your card. Jim- If you run kudzu (Redhat's hardware config utility) by hand as root, does it see the card and attempt to configure it? kudzu should generate the proper magic in /etc/sysconfig/hwconf and in /etc/modprobe.conf. Based on a quick google, this should be supported by the initio module. If kudzu fails to do the magic, try modprobe initio You could also add an entry to /etc/modprobe.conf alias scsi_hostadapter initio modprobe scsi_hostadapter -- Sean

I need to install an HP Surestore dlt on a Centos 4 machine and I am at a loss as to how to proceed. Can someone either provide or point me to an online reference on how to proceed to add and configure a SCSI adapter and tape drive. I have read, but not really understood, the man page entry for st. Does kudzu handle this? /var/log/lastlog on x86_64

Hi list, this problem is already known and I'm sorry to bother if an acceptable workaround was already debated on the list. I was getting trouble with a 'grep something /var/log*' which caused the "Memory exhausted" message. With some deeper search I found the lastlog file in /var/log/ to be 1.2T sized. This seems to come from the nfsnobody's uid to be 4294967294 on x86_64 system (and -1 on i386) and the pre-allocation space for every uid (so from 0 to ...4294967294...hum..) from lastlog. Since I do not use NFS at all, can I just erase the nfsnobody from /etc/passwd and start with a blank lastlog file (this looks like a great way to nuke my system)? Or do I need to explicitly exclude this file from all my search? How do you -x86_64 users- deal with this? Hi we bought an astaro firewall and are quite happy with it, now we need to buy a commercially supported LVS (linux virtual server) appliance. Does anyone have any good experience using any commercial LVS devices with web based GUI. --

CentOS 3 -> logins

Hi, Since I upgraded CentOS from 3 to 4, I get those enties in logwatch. It seems to be caused by cron, opening a session everytime it executes a task.
