Another quick question- In reading the "official" release notes for EL4, I ran across this- > Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 support for SELinux uses Extended > Attributes on ext2/ext3 file systems. This means that, when a file is > written to a default-mounted ext2/ext3 file system, an extended > attribute will also be written. > > This will cause problems on systems that dual boot between Red Hat > Enterprise Linux 4 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1. The Red Hat > Enterprise Linux 2.1 kernels do not support extended attributes, and > can crash when encountering them. Anyone run in to this problem? It kind of quashes my hopes of keeping a running RH9 system sharing the /home directory with Centos 4- but what the heck. -- Chris Bryant

Perl wierdness.

Ok, trying to install amavisd-new from Dag. Getting into a lot of problems, all of which seem to stem from Perl dependency issues. I have built several of the required modules by hand, but then got down to perl-MIME-tools. It builds FINE, but will not install. Why? Turns out, the perl RPM 'provides' perl(MIME::QuotedPrint)=3.01 but the module itself is 3.03. Build a perl module against MIME::QuotedPrint and you get a Requires:perl(MIME::QuotedPrint)>=3.03, which fails on installation. Hello, I just built a complete php suite including php-snmp RPM. (php-snmp-4.3.2-19.ent.i386.rpm). I inspired myself from this bugzilla page: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/beta/show_bug.cgi?id=123149 can I upload binaries, sources and specfile somewhere to share it with you ? I was thinking about "Extras" repository ? why not ? cya -- Martin

php-snmp *UPDATE*

Thank you to all the people that responded. I found a php.spec file for EL3 and modified the php.spec file that came with the php source rpm from the CentOS mirros. Built and installed the php-snmp rpm and it is working great!!! For anyone that would like to have a copy for themselves can find it at http://traffic.wonderwave.net I will leave it up for a week or two so act fast. I also posted the the original spec file, the one with snmp support and a diff file showing the difference between the two. Thanks again to all you helped me out. Dan

4 Final, RC1 -> Final?

Build team -- what's our current outlook on the 4 Final release shaping up to be (ie, this week, next week, a month..)? Has RedHat... oops... those folks in North Carolina decided to drop support for Pentium II machines in EL4? I have this old Compaq 3000R 300mHtz P2 which will never die, which makes for a really nice test base for new releases. Maybe the EL people have decided their subscriptions per year cost more than this server is worth and no one in their right mind would install EL4 on such equipment? Well, they are wrong, I am very left handed which makes me one of the ones who thinks in their right mind! Thanks for all the hard work! John Hinton

Packages on demmand

Hi all, I have four servers (one with redhat 7.3, two with CentOS 3.4 and one with CentOS 4 for testing). I would like to do a partial package mirror with os, updates, contrib branches and so on. Anybody knows if exists any tool for redhat based distros, like apt-proxy in debian world ( that donwloads packages on demmand), that supports this feature?? I see yam tool from dag repository, but it needs that do a full mirror ... and I don´t have as much disk space.
