HP Envy EFI problem after BIOS update

I had to boot my HP Envy into Win8 for the first time in ages this morning. When I did that, it installed some updates including a BIOS update. Once this was all done, once again the GRUB boot menu was gone and it booted straight into Win8. Using the advanced boot manager options in Win8 I managed to get the EFI boot menu up and chose Ferdora 21. It was only after Fedora failed to boot that I realised that this was wrong. Some time ago I had replaced F21 with Centos 7 and the three Centos 7 options were the ones that should be available - plus the Windows 8 boot manager. I have managed to boot into a Centos 7 Live KDE image. In this ran efibootmgr which shows the same thing. I can fix the boot sequence, but that will not get me back the Centos entries. Can anyone suggest how I can do that? Mingw gcc 6.x on CentOS6?

Hello there! I'm stuck here on my CentOS6 w/ current EPEL's version of mingw32/64 gcc (4.9.2), jealous about the Ubuntu's 5.3.0 version and even more jealous about Fedora 24's top-recent 6.1.0.. and now I need msvcr120.dll compatibility (provided by gcc 6.1.0). Has anybody any experience w/ recompiling Fedora's 24 mingw RPMs or another way to get the latest gcc cross-compiler from mingw on such CentOS6? Any advice? Regards, -- wwp

IPv6 routing with 2 different prefixes

Hello I've got two prefixes, one /48 and one /64 let's say these two 2001:db8:0815::/48 2001:db8:4711:cafe::/64 the router has on it's ethernet interface the following to IPv6 addresses: 2001:db8:0815::1/48 2001:db8:4711:cafe::1/64 a windows box has 2001:db8:0815::17/48 and 2001:db8:0815::1 as it's gateway a linux box has 2001:db8:4711:cafe::11/64 and 2001:db8:4711:cafe::1 as it's gateway why can only the router do ping6 2001:db8:0815::17 and not the linux box? is there a missing IPv6 route? Iptables not save rules

Hello, I have been using ipset to blacklist badbots. Works like a champ! The only problem is if I do a system reboot, I lose the ipset and the rule. I changed /etc/sysconfig/iptables.conf to: IPTABLES_SAVE_ON_RESTART="yes" IPTABLES_SAVE_ON_STOP="yes" And followed the instructions in: https://www.centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3853 The changes are still not saved. The rules show up in the running /etc/syscong/iptables but are lost on a reboot. Also, firewalld is not installed. This is a CentOS 6.8 system. One question, do I need to stop iptables before I add the rules? I have seen examples where sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. TIA

yum history list

Hi List, I have several workstations all with exactly the same OS versions, kernels + yum versions; CentOS Linux release 7.2.1511 (Core) kernel.x86_64 3.10.0-327.28.3.el7 yum.noarch 3.4.3-132.el7.centos.0.1 running a 'yum history list' command produces different outputs on some workstations, I haven't changed any yum configurations. Workstation A: yum history list Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, langpacks ID | Login user | Date and time | Action(s) | Altered Workstation B: yum history list Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, langpacks ID | Command line | Date and time | Action(s) | Altered Any clue as to why I have different fields being output? I see in the yum manual: In "history list" you can change the behaviour of the 2nd column via the configuration option history_list_view. But I'm unsure how I can adjust the columns. Any clues would be much appreciated, Thanks, Michael

Recommendation about an usb wireless adapter to use it as HostAP

Hi all, I would like to install/test CentOS 7.X as a hostap for my home. I am thinking to use an Alfa (http://www.alfa.com.tw) usb wireless adapter or TP-Link. BUt there is not much information in Alfa's or TP-Link's web sites about which of them can run as a HostAP. If I can find any adapter that supports ac with a throughput of 150 Mbps/300Mbps, it would be great. Any recommendation? Maybe AWUS036ACH and TP-TLW722N can supports this functionality, but I am not sure ... Thanks. -- Greetings, C. L. Martinez

I'm not a 'power user' or some corporate IT guy, just a home user that's been around for a while. Been with Redhat since 2.0, guess I'm the little fish in the big ocean. Guess I'll move on to another distribution or back to Fortran and developing statistical models for the CIA/DIA Thank you, happy to help!!

DNF update

I was searching tonight how to update OLD systems. I have C5 and C6 systems that need updating and they are remote systems. I followed the paths and ended up at DNF. Is this a valid option for updating C5 and C6 to take them to C7? Thanks, Jerry
