man and man-db inconsitency

Folks I use "yum list installed" to determine if a package has been installed. In particular, I was interested in the "man" program, installed with the command "yum install man". In Centos6, if I look at the results, I see that "man" was installed. This is good. In Centos7, if I look at the results, I see that "man-db" was installed. This is inconsistent. The result is that the generic algorithm: if I want package X , check the "yum list installed" output. If X is not listed, install it, otherwise assume it's already installed. Is there a reason for this inconsistency? The above algorithm works with most other packages. David

Where did network setup goes under setup utility in CentOS 7?

In CentOS 6.7 I ran setup command and I could configure network settings from that "gui" utility at command line. In CentOS 7 I don't know where this goes or how to enabled. I have installed a few packages: yum install setuptool -y \ && yum install system-config-network-tui -y \ && yum install system-config-firewall* -y \ && yum install system-config-securitylevel-tui -y \ && yum install system-config-keyboard -y \ && yum install ntsysv -y But I can't see the network settings, see this pic: http://content.screencast.com/users/ReynierPM/folders/Snagit/media/39e744c6… Should I install any other package?

Apache doesn't display "It works page" under CentOS 7

I have Apache/2.4.6 installed in a minimal CentOS 7 VM. I am trying to access the default page when Apache is installed by accessing the CentOS IP as http://192.168.3.130 (is a host only interface) but I got "This webpage is not available: ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT" and I can't find why. SOT: Best strategy for automatize a flow that need user interaction

I am working in a Dockerfile but there is a "secure" MariaDB server script I need to run which is interactive and I don't know how to deal with this. Basically this is the flow I have follow on the script at test environment and is the same I want to achieve in the Dockerfile without user interaction by just answering as you seen on the flow below: # /usr/bin/mysql_secure_installation Enter current password for root (enter for none): [ENTER] // because there is no password OK, successfully used password, moving on... Set root password? [Y/n] n ... skipping. Remove anonymous users? [Y/n] Y ... Success! Disallow root login remotely? [Y/n] n ... skipping. Remove test database and access to it? [Y/n] Y - Dropping test database... ... Success! - Removing privileges on test database... ... Success! Reloading the privilege tables will ensure that all changes made so far will take effect immediately. Reload privilege tables now? [Y/n] Y ... Success! Cleaning up... So I need to write a bash script or something else that could handle this automatically but has not idea, how would you take care of this?

CentOS 7, 327 kernel still crashing

I've just added the following to the CentOS bugtracker for CentOS-7 0009860. I admit to not being sure if it's the same issue, or a separate one, but this and other Dell servers - I *think* they're all R420's, but I could be wrong, just all do the same thing on boot. ***************** I've just updated a CentOS 7 server to the latest kernel, vmlinuz-3.10.0-327.4.5.el7.x86_64, and the server fails to boot. It has failed on every 327 kernel. Sometimes the direction of UI development in gnome really angers me. For example, when selecting a font for the gedit text editor - there is no way to ask it to only show monospace fonts. It's a fricken text editor, that should be the default - meaning you have to do something special to get fonts shown that aren't monospace. Seriously, who is in charge with the UI design in gnome? Whoever it is needs to be fired. /rant

yum / rpm kernel problems - CentOS 7.2

This is the second time I have come across a problem with yum / rpm and kernel packages with CentOS 7. I install CentOS7 and do a yum update I add elrepo epel and virtualbox repos I install Virtualbox-5.0 It fails to install it give a message similar to : - WARNING: The vboxdrv kernel module is not loaded. Either there is no module available for the current kernel (3.10.0-327.el7.x86_64) or it failed to load. Please recompile the kernel module and install it by sudo /sbin/rcvboxdrv setup You will not be able to start VMs until this problem is fixed. 5.0.14r105127 As I had done a yum update the kernel was actually 3.10.0-327.4.5.el7 The initial install did not include kernel-devel so I yum install kernel-devel Still have the problem So I downgrade the kernel - it goes to 3.10.0-327.4.4.el7 I downgrade repeatedly until I get 3.10.0-327.el7.x86_64 as that was the initial kernel installed. The downgrade correctly downgrades the kernel, kernel-headers, kernel-tools and kernel-tools-libs BUT NOT the kernel-devel which stays at -327.4.5.el7 Trapped - didn't see that for a while! So I finally yum remove kernel-devel Then I look in yumex (with show latest - disabled) and only the kernel-devel for 3.10.0-327.4.5.el7 is shown. All the other kernel packages show the correct versions. At this point the only installed kernel rpms are 3.10.0-327.el7.x86_64 So I explicitly ask yum to install sudo yum install kernel-devel-3.10.0-327.el7.x86_64 so now I have >rpm -qa |grep kernel kernel-tools-libs-3.10.0-327.el7.x86_64 kernel-3.10.0-327.el7.x86_64 abrt-addon-kerneloops-2.1.11-36.el7.centos.x86_64 kernel-headers-3.10.0-327.el7.x86_64 kernel-tools-3.10.0-327.el7.x86_64 kernel-devel-3.10.0-327.el7.x86_64 The virtual box command to compile and install the vbox driver is sudo /sbin/rcvboxdrv which seems to have issues sudo /sbin/rcvboxdrv ** (pkttyagent:3047): WARNING **: Unable to register authentication agent: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name :1.6 was not provided by any .service files Error registering authentication agent: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name :1.6 was not provided by any .service files (g-dbus-error-quark, 2) zero idea of what that means a repeat of the command returns nothing but when I run >sudo VBoxManage -v WARNING: The vboxdrv kernel module is not loaded.
