With 6.x and 7, "mail" is symlinked to mailx, which doesn't seem to have the "--" flag and the ability to pass the sendmail options. In both mail and mailx, a bare "-f" is a read from file.

Constant screen flicker with Firefox browser

Hi Guys, I'm facing this issue: https://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=8482 It came after upgrading to 7.1 and only Firefox is affected, Chrome is working. What I've tried so far: - Tried NVIDIA drivers 340.65, 346.59 and 346.72 - Upgraded Firefox to 38 - Tried Safe more / Refresh Firefox - Tried to turn HW accel. off in Firefox None of these has helped to eliminate the issue. Do you know how to work this around? Many thanks, László

Missing Java packages for java-1.6.0-openjdk under CentOS 5

When I compile some Java code I am getting this sort of error: "package org.apache.http.annotation does not exist" I am presuming that I am missing a Jar file in /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk.x86_64. Most of the Jar files in /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk.x86_64 come from one or another RPMs, most from the CentOS 5 distro RPMs. But I cannot figure out which RPM(s) I am missing. I tried doing a web search for org.apache.http.annotation with el5 and rpm, but got nothing useful. Centos 7 Network Question

I have a question about the network and Centos 7 I am experimenting with two C7 installations: - On relatively new hardware, configured with fixed IP address in IPV4 only - on top of Windows, using VMWare, sharing my windows connection via Vmware's bridge with IPV4 only. On both configurations, I run a script every five minutes to test the network. The sequence is as follows: - Find the default interface using "ip route" - Find that interface's IP address by scanning the output of "ip route" for a match in interface. If the above tests fail to resolve, I issue "systemctl restart network", and post a mail message to myself. When this happens, the network does indeed come back correctly. I do the same sequence on Centos 6 installations, (using "system network restart"). I find that on Centos 6, I almost never get notified that the restart occurred (except when there's a real reason). On Centos 7, however, I find that about once a day or so, I get notified, even though there's nothing that has changed. On Centos 6, I left the avahi daemon running. On Centos 7, I disabled avahi (because with it enabled, I was getting this failure once every few hours). Are there any clues in the above? On C7, the "messages" log has nothing that I can associate with the failure. David

Condor cluster setup advice (pointers) needed

Dear Experts, Could someone recommend some "quick and dirty" HOWTO on condor based cluster? A did a bunch of cluster setups, I always used PBS (or torque lately). But my professor wants his to be Condor. I started reading Condor documentation, and it is vast. And quick route, like: architecture chart, and parameters I need to configure on master/submit, and compute nodes - somehow manages to escape me. I'm at a real loss now. All works well on a single machine (for quite some time already), but I am clueless about how to add compute nodes. And my web search abilities seem to have left me just on this one: all I'm able to find (together with a heap of how to submit jobs to existing thing) are a couple of "./install" based setups - whereas mine is rpm based - from their yum repository (for which they say: DO NOT USE condor_configure script, but go ahead and edit config files ... - as opposed to "./install") Any pointers anybody? ldap host attribute is ignored

Dear list members, i have installed a CentOS 7 x86_64 system. I want to let users authenticate over our ldap server. This seems to be working. ldap-username and ldap-passwords are accepted for the users configured in the ldap server. No problem. Now i want to restrict the access to users who have my centos-machine in their ldap host attribute. My problem is, that this host attribute seems to be ignored. Any ldap user, independent from the host attribute, still can login in. What could be the reason? (googling around did not lead me to a solution). The cache is already flushed.
