A filesystem or Volume sits within a zpool a zpool is made up of vdevs vdevs are made up of block devices. zpool is similar to LVM volume vdev is similar to raid set devices can be files. suggestions for large filesystem server setup (n * 100 TB)

Hi, over time the requirements and possibilities regarding filesystems changed for our users. currently I'm faced with the question: What might be a good way to provide one big filesystem for a few users which could also be enlarged; backuping the data is not the question. Big in that context is up to couple of 100 TB may be. O.K. I could install one hardware raid with e.g. N big drives format with xfs. And export one big share. Done. On the other hand, e.g. using 60 4 TB Disks in one storage would be a lot of space, but a nightmare in rebuilding on a disk crash. Now if the share fills up, my users "complain", that they usually get a new share (what is a new raidbox). From my POV I could e.g. use hardware raidboxes, and use LVM and filesystem growth options to extend the final share, but what if one of the boxes crash totally? The whole Filesystem would be gone. hm. So how do you handle big filesystems/storages/shares? Regards . Centos 6.5 on USB stick performance / stalls

Hi, I am running C6.5 64bit on an USB stick connected to a HP DL360G7; It is usually an ESXi host but eg for firmware updates (not available on SPP) I use this local installation. Problem are the lags and unresponsiveness we are seeing for example when running yum update in the installation phase. The whole system stalls but there is no io in vmstat. From what google tells us, this is a known problem with linux. But is there anything we can do to mitigate? steps so far: mount / with ext4: defaults,data=writeback,noatime,nodiratime Thx Rainer

Hi all. sorry for my english, I'm from Ukraine. so, i build http://dev.centos.org/centos/6/SCL/SRPMS/python27-1-10.el6.centos.alt.src.r…, then http://dev.centos.org/centos/6/SCL/SRPMS/python27-python-2.7.5-7.el6.centos…<http://dev.centos.org/centos/6/SCL/SRPMS/python27-python-2.7.5-7.el6.centos…>and when try to build http://dev.centos.org/centos/6/SCL/SRPMS/python27-python-setuptools-0.6.28-…<http://dev.centos.org/centos/6/SCL/SRPMS/python27-python-setuptools-0.6.28-…>it failed. build.log and root.log is in attachment. Help me please, what i do not right?

Problems with gvim 7.4 under CentOS6.5

Compiling vim 7.4 as described by vim works fine, but calling gvim/vim results in a segmentation fault in CentOS6.5. Debugging with gdb points to a problem with strncmp(). Even compiling gvim 7.3 does not work. How to resolve this issue? Would be great if somebody could help. Thanks Christoph

Not so much...and hpacucli is actively user hostile. I finally connected and woke up the box (and who, in their right minds, puts the power on button on a rackmount RAID box in the *back* of the box?), and I'm trying to create one large RAID 6. But... ctrl slot=3 show config is incredibly bizarre. It shows me my physical drives... but starts at 9, and for everything up to 18, shows two of the same port (2E:1:xx), then the rest only once. So I created the raid, using a range, and telling it to leave the last drive. That seemed to work, and I added that one as a spare, it looked ok... except it's telling me that 11-18 are unassigned... even though what shows as in the array are all in there twice, up through 18, as before. Does anyone understand this behavior? mark

Dual Band Wireless

Hi, Because of heavy interference in the 2.5GHz range in my neighbourhood, I want to switch to wireless dual band (5GHZ) and wireless ac. Do you have any suggestions for USB wireless adapters for CentOS 6.5 that work with dual band and ac? Also, if you have any suggestions on wireless routers for these bands I would like to hear about them. Thank you, Joe
