DMAR Problem since 6.5

Hello List, I updated my server to CentOS 6.5. When i boot the system with the new kernel: 2.6.32-431.el6.x86_64 I get repeating the following message: dmar: DRHD: handling fault status reg 3 dmar: DMAR:[DMA Read] Request device [00:02.0] fault addr 1fc00000 DMAR:[fault reason 06] PTE Read access is not set I use a Intel Core i5-3550 CPU with vt-d enabled to use a DVB-S Card inside a Windows VM (kvm). With the old 6.4 Kernel all works (2.6.32-358.23.2.el6.x86_64) lscpi shows this: [...] 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09) [...] Is this a problem with the intel driver or anything else? Hi All I don't know whether i am asking on a correct list or not i have a query that how to know that what system call are called when packet enters the system or when we send a packet from a system? Thanks

Dragging app between workspaces not working

When I try to drag an app between workspaces, it doesn't move. I'm using compiz. When I put an arrow over an app in the workspace panel viewer (whatever that is called), it says click to start dragging, but no go. Any ideas? Thanks, -wes

Nux! Interesting point, something I didn't know. Fortunately in my case there are no db files involved directly, just db dumps wrapped in a tarball along with other associated stuff, sent from other servers. I would expect that lsync'ing db files could be a nasty non-stop process if the database is constantly being updated, so using db tools for replication would be best, configuring inotify/lsyncd to ignore the db directories. I believe by default that lsyncd instructs rsync to do whole-file transfers, so a large db could be a real problem. Thanks for the important heads-up!

Third-party SATA-RAID cards suggestions

Hi all, Would anybody care to suggest a third party SATA-RAID card that works out of the box with CentOS 6, without having to jump through hoops to make it work? The card should preferably be able to connect ten harddrives, but I guess three four-port cards should work as well. There's no need for anything fancy really, as long as I can create a single big software-raid on it at CentOS install-time. So far I've tried a Highpoint RocketRAID 2740 and a LSI 9201-16i without too much success. To discard... or not to discard...

Hi, I just recently read a post about SSD triming (discard vs fstrim): http://www.howtogeek.com/176978/ubuntu-doesnt-trim-ssds-by-default-why-not-… far I used discard on all my SSDs. Now I am wondering if it is really worth it to switch them all to a crontabed fstrim... Anyone made the switch yet? Thx, JD

ADMIN issue - manitu

I've been blocked twice this morning, and removed myself once - the first time, by the time I got to work and looked at the list, it was already gone. My hosting provider works with those jerks at manitu. I've ranted a number of times over the years at why their method is a *lousy* method for blocking spam in the second decade of the 21st century. Now this: here's another argument as to why the CentOS list should stop using them... when I went to remove myself, the email that told me I'd been blocked, also said who'd reported my mailserver (that is, hostmonster's mailserver) as sending spam was someone at selfip.biz. Go do a whois on them - it's someone at home, using dyndns, not an open obvious company. This means that anyone who gets annoyed at *anyone* served by any ISP can report them, and block everyone at that ISP. Go ahead, tell me this is *reasonable* in 2013. mark

Thanks, I was able to upgrade yum by deleting some mirrors which I didn't need slready. But I still cannot install wine. When I'm running configure script I'm getting "checking whether gcc -m32 works... no configure: error: Cannot build a 32-bit program, you need to install 32-bit development libraries." However, I've got "libstdc++-4.4.7-4.el6.i686" installed. 64bit centos and wine

Hello everyone. Has anybody ever tried to install 32bit wine to 64bit centos. I was able to run 64 bit wine, but some of mine application require 32 bit wine, but I cannot install it. It says to install 32bit development libraries at first. Does it make sense, what I'm doing ? I will be really appreciated any help. Cheers Igor

Every 3ware card (also from LSI) I've used also works OOTB with CentOS. If you are new to hardware RAID, the 3ware interface is a lot easier to learn than the MegaRAID's. (I suspect that other LSI cards, including the 9201, work fine with CentOS too; perhaps you can post your error messages so we can see what's wrong, instead of replacing a working controller.) I tried to respond to this earlier, but *%@#$%^& manitou blocked me again. I wouldn't recommend the RocketRaid. We have a few of them here; they work ok, but Highpoint, who makes them, are *not* really great about updating drivers once the card's out their door. The last one we put back into service, I had to find the last source code they had for that card, several years old, and then fix the code before I could compile it. (At least it was in C). Second on MegaRAID. The ones we have here are the Dell rebranded PERCs, and we've never had trouble, except with ones nearly 10 years old. mark
