CentOS 7 update to apache configs

Is there a script available that will automatically update the apache configs from CentOS 7 to "pass" the latest "vulnerability scans" by removing the older cyphers like TLSv1.0 protocol: and others that get flagged by vulnerability scans ??? Thanks, Jerry

Network Manager - rotate connection profile

I wasn't sure what to call this in the subject line, but here's my issue. I have an occasional need to switch a few computers from one Internet provider to a different one. Both Internet providers feed into the same network, one at 192.168.0.1 and the other at 192.168.0.254. So to change from one provider to the other I run nmtui to change the gateway and dns server addresses, then deactivate and reactivate the connection and I'm done. It's just takes a few minutes, but I'm wondering if there's a way to automate this a bit so instead of having to run nmtui and change all of those numbers, then deactivate and reactivate the connection, I could just have each configuration saved as a text file or something, and just tell network manager "use this configuration now until further notice." I could, of course, accomplish this using dhcp and change the dhcp server configurations as needed, but I'd prefer to have all of this stuff stored on each local machine like it is now. That way I could even automate it with a cronjob or something if I wanted to get that efficient. -- Can we uninstall 2020 and install it again? This one has a virus. Normally I run Centos 7, but I accidently booted a German Knoppix OS. I'm back to Centos 7, but now my LXterms all have hennebry@Microknoppix on top. WTF? How did that happen? How do I fix it? How do I make it not happen again? What other trouble should I be looking for? I opened a couple LXterms, looked at man pages and ran xrandr as root a few times. Also I ran shutdown a couple times. That's it. I'm rather annoyed at the result. glusterfs 8 rpm missing in Extra for el7

Hello, I noticed that this link https://wiki.centos.org/SpecialInterestGroup/Storage reports an available package called centos-release-gluster8 This package is missing in Extra repo for el7. The general package called centos-release-gluster links instead to the latest version of glusterfs7. Could the general rpm be update to include glusterfs8? I see that the repo is already working here: http://mirrorlist.centos.org/?arch=x86_64&release=7&repo=storage-gluster-8 and also here http://buildlogs.centos.org/centos/7/storage/x86_64/gluster-8 So i think, it should be really easy to push the update. Hi all, I have a laptop in UEFI mode running CentOS 8.2. All works fine but when I enable Secure Boot, login via gdm is no longer possible. Console login is ok. I found some related discussions over on Ubuntu forums, suggesting that this could be related to 3rd-party kernel modules, such as nvidia. This laptop has only Intel builtin graphics, and every single module installed is part of the CentOS distribution. This is from a file /tmp/xses-.XXXXXX (random 6-char string) xrdb: Can't open display '' xmodmap: unable to open display '' Failed to import environment: Process org.freedesktop.systemd1 exited with status 1 /usr/bin/xmbind: Can't open display Unable to init server: Could not connect: Connection refused Something is different in the way Xorg is started. In this situation, the first part of the Xorg log file (under ~/.local) is a dump of X command line options. use: X [:<display>] [options] -a # ... -ac ... ...

Missing the old sytle gnome-software in CentOS 8 -- help!

Hello folks -- I recently got a new laptop and installed CentOS8 on it. Yes, it's a learning curve. What I am really upset/disappointed with is the "new" gnome-software application. It doesn't provide nearly the functionaility of the older gnome 3.28 app. Yes, I do know how to list EVERYTHING via the command line but the ease of listing files etc associated with a packages is now gone. Any ideas on a different app, plugins, extensions greatly appreciated. Thanks for any help. -- "DO or DO NOT; there is no try." -- Yoda Kay

Apache HTTPD not picking up environment variables.

I'm trying to install DB2 on a CentOS 7 server. The problem I'm seeing is that the Apache httpd server fails to pick up the db2 environment variables. On an older version running under CentOS 5 this was done by inserting the following lines into the httpd start script in /etc/sysconfig/httpd: if test -f /db2home/db2inst1/sqllib/db2profile; then . /db2home/db2inst1/sqllib/db2profile fi Under CentOS 7's systemctl system this no longer works. I need a clue as to where to start looking for where to put this so it will be sourced when the Apache server starts. I have googled this and can find nothing relevant. I even did a "find / -name httpd -print" and didn't find anything looking promising. Thanks for your help Harold

External harddisk

I have an old external harddisk, Toshiba 320 Gb, with a USB connector that I wanted to check for contents. It did not start up when connected and I could not hear the motor spinning. After leaving it in the freezer overnight the motor spins but it is not recognized by my computer. I disassembled it and could see that the head assembly rests outside the disk but when it is powered on, the head first moves to the center of the disk, then to the periphery and finally back to the resting position. This happens every few seconds and leaving it connected overnight changed nothing. I installed smartmontools but the disk is not even recognized by my system as a /dev/sd* device and therefore not accessible to smartd (at least as far as I know it.) Any suggestions for what I could try? I am running CentOS 7. Thank you.

UID/GID CentOS 6 to CentOS 7

Hi, we are upgrading some servers from C6 to C7 with a lot of user accounts on them (UID>=500). CentOS 7 has MIN_UID/MIN_GID 1000, Centos 6 has 500 in login.defs. Can I change in /etc/login.defs MIN_UID/MIN_GID to 500 for C7? So I could just grep the users out from passwd/shadow/group files and append them to the Centos7 passwd/shadow/group files. Can this do any damage to CentOS7 later on? Thinking about updates.... Thanks, Thomas
