how to use intel UHD 630 display driver on CentOS 7.8?

Hello all, I just installed CentOS 7.8 on ASRock B460M Pro4 board. CPU is i5-10400. The display device is inside the CPU and the max resolution is 4096x2160 for HDMI. But when I connect my small screen (max full HD), the display resolution is only 800x600. >From seeing some info here, I installed EPEL for yum, and inxi. The "inxi -G" command's output is like this : Graphics: Device-1: Intel driver: N/A Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.4 driver: vesa unloaded: fbdev,modesetting resolution: 800x600~75Hz OpenGL: renderer: llvmpipe (LLVM 7.0 256 bits) v: 2.1 Mesa 18.3.4 So there is no intel driver and the vesa fall back driver is being used. I tried adding i915.alpha_support=1 in grub.cfg (https://access.redhat.com/discussions/3410491) (so that i915 fall-back driver can be used) but it was the same. The intel site only provides driver for windows. Could anyone give me some advice? Thanks for reading. Chan

dbus issue on centos 7 as a lxc container

Hi, dbus on centos 7 lxc won't work. Centos 7.7 and ATI driver

As you have seen in another message I have a failed system after an update from 7.5. I /think/ the issue might be with the ATI driver which seems to fail to load a framebuffer in Xorg.0.log. Is anyone successfully running a Radeon graphics card on 7.7? If so, might you share any issues and solutions? Thanks.

strange email from cron regarding "rear"

I don't understand what this means, I found it in root's email this morning: To log into the recovery system via ssh set up /root/.ssh/authorized_keys or specify SSH_ROOT_PASSWORD WARNING: /usr/lib/grub/x86_64-efi/moddep.lst not found, grub2-mkimage will likely fail. Please install the grub2-efi-x64-modules package to fix this. ERROR: Error occurred during grub2-mkimage of BOOTX64.efi Aborting due to an error, check /var/log/rear/rear-fcshome.log for details /bin/sh: line 1: 30339 Terminated /usr/sbin/rear mkrescue It is possible it has happened before, as until recently I haven't paid a lot of attention to root's email (I know, I know,... bad me). but I wonder what it's all about... I have not knowingly ever used "rear" or "mkrescue". BTW, this is on an up to date Centos-7 X86-64 machine. Thanks in advance! Fred

How to solve missing net-snmp-perl?

Hello, Since Centos 8.2 the net-snmp-perl RPM seems missing. I already found a bug ticket https://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=17408 It looks like the package should actually be available in AppStream. But for some reason it's not. The package stuff at https://git.centos.org/rpms/net-snmp.git look like before. The RPM file should be generated. Now I wonder, how does the Centos infrastructure decide, which RPM to include into the repository? When it's based on the tags, shouln't the net-snmp-perl RPM be included together with the other RPMs? I already studied the public available documation of the build system. But I couldn't get the information I need. Any hint for me? Thanks.

[CentOS7] cups, cups-browsed

Hi, I have a strange problem on one laptop with cups in CentOS7, all updates applied. Sometime, the lpstat -t command returns "No destination host name supplied by cups-browsed for printer" and asks if cups-browsed is running. Nonetheless cups-browsed is running and is configured. Restarting cups-browsed does not help so the problem is not related to cups-browsed . The solution is to manually restart cups service But, the user has no root access on his laptop (it is not allowed in our professional environment) so the only work-around would be a cron task. But this is a work-around, not a solution to this problem. Did someone encounter this behavior and found the solution ? Could it be related to swiching from Wifi (at home) to wired network (at workplace)? I have several laptops, all installed with the same kickstart file via PXE boot and cups running fine. All are DELL computers except this one which is a HP ZBook. Thanks Patrick

Script to rebuild CentOS 8 boot ISO with plus kernel

I want to install CentOS 8 on some older Dells that have storage controllers dropped by RHEL 8. The CentOS 8 kernel-plus package supports them, so I wrote a script that rebuilds the boot ISO to boot and install using the kernel-plus package from the centosplus repo. https://github.com/cmadamsgit/misc-scripts/ I know you can use driver disks to load additional modules from elsewhere, but I wanted to end up with the kernel-plus anyway, so why not just do it during install? certbot stopped working on CentOS 7: pyOpenSSL module missing required functionality
