Since doing "yum update" this morning, an update that installed several packages, the updater shows me 3 packages to install: hpijs-1:3.12.4-4.el6_4.1 (x86_64) hplip-common-3.12.4-4.el6_4.1 (x86_64) hplip-libs-3.12.4-4.el6_4.1 (x86_64) but when I attempt to actually run the update I get: hplip-libs-3.12.4-4.el6.i686 requires libsane.so.1 hplip-libs-3.12.4-4.el6.i686 requires hplip-common = 3.12.4-4.el6 : Success - empty transaction this is a 64-bit computer running 6.4 x86_64, and none of these 3 packages as installed is i686 they are all x86_64. You will use that as your exam client (all your answer will be in the virtual machine). If you really want to boot that, I would suggest you use a external hard drive to boot CentOS, and install virtual machines in it. Hi Everyone I would like to use kicad for circuit design. It does not appear to be in the repos. I have built all the other software that I need and not included in the repos from source but I have struggled with kicad. There looks to be lots of places on the net that I can download RPMs not in the repos from but I don't know which ones run honest operations. Could anyone point me to a good site? Sorry for top posting but this windows phone doesn't let me edit replies! I agree that virtualbox or VMware is an easier option, but the RHCSA exam objectives require me to have knowledge about KVM. I will be running multiple virtual instances of centos from within centos. There is this EFI partition on the hard disk. Not sure what to do with it. Also its different from the good old bios, this EFI won't let my USB drive boot! It's less likely that you'd accidentally corrupt your Windows 8 setup that way. Some of the virtualization options might come in handy as well, by letting you do things like rolling back to a snapshot, etc., that might help you to repeatedly try different things without risk of having to keep reinstalling CentOS for each thing you want to try. NFS mounted files owned by nobody

I have 2 centos boxes and I want to NFS mount a dir from one to the other. When I do that the files on the client all are owned by nobody.nobody. I verified that the user and group of the files on the server exist on both hosts and have the same uid and gid. I googled and found this: http://whacked.net/2006/07/26/nfsv4nfs-mapid-nobody-domain/ domainname on both machines returns (none). I edited /etc/resolve.conf on both and put 'domain foobar' as the first line in both. But then when I did a 'service network restart' the files were re-written and my changes were gone. On one system /etc/resolve.conf says "Generated by NetworkManager". On the other system it says "generated by /sbin/dhclient-script" (I didn't set these systems up.) I don't even know if this domain stuff is even the correct solution. I just want the NFS mounted dir to retain the real user ownership it has on the server. How can I achieve that? Pulseaudio deson't start automatically in gnome desktop

Hi all, I have a strange problem in my CentOS 6.4 (fully patched) workstation: I need to start pulseaudio maunally if I would like to use/listen sound ... And I don't understand why. Centos 5.0 Printer Reshare

Hi, I have a number of networked printers configured on my server. Some are mounts from other SMB servers, some are directly connected via socket://ip_address:9100. I can't find how to allow other Unix/Linux machines to use these printers. I need to re-share them for use by these other machines. Any ideas or direction to look? Best Regards, John

why kdm crashes

We have a pretty standard installation of CentOS 6.4 on our workstations. We've been running into issues where kdm crashes every once in a while when someone tries to log in on the console. The only way to recover when it happens seems to be to restart kdm (kill -HUP `pgrep -f /usr/bin/kdm`) (or reboot of course) and it never seems to happen twice in a row. I am not sure where to start looking to see why kdm would crash like this so intermittently. Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? -- Thanks! Miranda
