I report the odd bug to RH through Bugzilla and I have always had a timely acknowledgement and as far as I can tell they have either been rejected or accepted within a reasonably short time. Namely: * hivex * hivex-devel * librdmac * librdmac-devel * sanlock-libs * sanlock-devel and maybe others. Is this on purpose (I don't know if upstream has removed or updated the 32-bit rpms, but the old ones are still in C6.3/x86_64), or is it just the usual sloppyness (I've been told here on previous occasions the biarch is a pain in the ass to maintain, nobody cares anyway, it's not 'plain', and no sensible man should be using it). -Michael

timeout vs. winexe

I use the winexe (a samba-based tool like psexec) to run a command remotely on windows targets. The problem is, sometimes it hangs until interrupted and I'd like to put it in a cron job. So I added a 'timeout 80' on the command line that starts a shell script that invokes winexe with the needed parameters. This does prevent the hang, but now every run takes the full 80 seconds to return where it should average 5 or 10 seconds on a normal execution - and it seems to trap normal interrupts until its own timeout is reached. Timeout seems to return immediately when other commands exit. Am I missing something obvious that might make it wait in this scenario? Strace show a loop of these filling the time after I think it has completed: ioctl(0, SNDCTL_TMR_START or TCSETS, {B38400 opost isig -icanon echo ...}) = ? CentOS 6.3 usb key...

Hi, I upgraded my USB install keys (as per wiki) to 6.3 and now it freezes during the boot... It displays the boot.msg content, plus "boot:" (from ldlinux.sys); but it freezes after that, before displaying the syslinux.cfg menu... Anyone else having such problem, or an idea of what is going on...? For information, I make my keys using syslinux 3.82 on a CentOS 5.8. Thx, JD

Good point again Reindl. I've not broken the system, it's just I want to decide when the new kernel should be booted. My reason is I've had the kernel version change and that has been buggy and broke my system. So I'd rather take control myself over when my box moves to a newer kernel version. It's no problem for me to mount the GrubBoot partition and edit grub.conf manually, after making a backup of that file first, and then reboot the system. Hi all I have a QoS script involving "iptables" and "tc" that I would like to run after "eth0" and "eth1" come up. I thought about some "POST_UP_SCRIPT=" or similar in /etc/sysconfig/network (or ifcfg-ethX) As I document, I found that http://goo.gl/jWoPn According to these, I have to create (if they does not exist): - /sbin/ifup-pre-local - /sbin/ifup-local It sounds a bit wild to me to have to tweak in /sbin for that, I really expected something in /etc/sysconfig/** Would you know if there is a way configure what I want? -- RMA.

Some good points there Reindl. I update my box once a week now. Usually if there are any kernel issues they are made know in a reasonable time. If I don't hear of any then I know it's safe for me to move to the latest kernel release. So basically I'm playing safe by letting others find any issues, and waiting until that's been addressed with another kernel release before I move onto the latest kernel. I've just updated my 5.8 box and there's a new kernel to be installed. Looking at /boot/ directory I see this file called message: -rw-r--r-- root root 80032 Mar 12 2009 message Can anyone twll me what this message file is for please? Is this a new grub or kernel file? Trying to find all the kernel modules needed for my machine using shell script

Hi, I'm developing kernel modules right now, and the build times are starting to get under my skin. As a side effect i'm taking way too many "coffee" breaks during builds. So i was looking for a way to build only the stuffs i need for my platform. Chapter 7 and 8 of "linux kernel in a nutshell" gave a good detail of how to do that by hand. Its a good read : http://www.kroah.com/lkn/ But Although i understand the stuffs, this is still a lot of tweaks to make that work. 2.6.32 and later kernels added a new target "make localmodconfig". which scans through "lsmod" and change the .config appropriately. So i thought i found my "automation". But this perl script has some problem too. This thread describes the problems : https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=845113 There was also a proposed solution which apparently worked for others , is to run the script directly instead of using make's target. Although for me, make localmodconfig does not work at all. its because of the following : $make clean $make mrproper $cp /boo/config-'uname -r' .config $make localmodconfig and it haults with vboxguest config not found!! nf_defrag_ipv6 config not found!! vboxsf config not found!! vboxvideo config not found!! The thing is my kernel development environment is inside virtualbox. These vbox modules were installed when i chose to install "virtualbox guest addtion". And the netfilter module might be a Distribution specific module(Lot of netfilter modules are not part of the mainline kernel, so its not a shock to me), which is not included in mainline kernel. Now the workaround this obviously unloading these module and trying again. But I'm thinking if there is patch for the "streamline_config.pl" which will enable the user to exclude certain modules if s/he wants. Problem is i have "zero" knowledge about perl and i like it that way. So my problems in "nutshell" 1) Patching streamline_config.pl so i can give a list of module name as argument which it will exclude from processing the config file. 2) I've tried to run the script by myself. But running it directly fails with a error. [root@kernel-host-rh6 linux-2.6]# sh scripts/kconfig/streamline_config.pl scripts/kconfig/streamline_config.pl: line 45: my: command not found scripts/kconfig/streamline_config.pl: line 47: my: command not found scripts/kconfig/streamline_config.pl: line 48: chomp: command not found scripts/kconfig/streamline_config.pl: line 50: syntax error near unexpected token `(' scripts/kconfig/streamline_config.pl: line 50: `my @searchconfigs = (' Again my "zero" knowledge about perl does not helping my case. 70-persistent-net-rules

When my machine installs (CentOS 6.3) the two network cards are getting reversed. The PCI card is getting eth0 and the motherboard is getting eth1. I would like them in reverse order to keep things the same as they used to be. How can I easily tell these two to reverse? Generate the 70-persistent-net-rules with motherboard eth0 first then the PCI slot? Thanks, Jerry

can NOT delete LV (in use) problem...

We have CENTOS 5.6 on DELL server. I create VG and LV on one SSD disk. after couple weeks I decide to delete it. I unmount file system but can not delete LV. It say "in use". I try following but still NOT work: # lvchange -an /dev/VG0-SSD910/LV01-SSD910 LV VG0-SSD910/LV01-SSD910 in use: not deactivating # kpartx -d /dev/VG0-SSD910/LV01-SSD910 # lvchange -an /dev/VG0-SSD910/LV01-SSD910 LV VG0-SSD910/LV01-SSD910 in use: not deactivating Anyone have ideal how to delete it? Strange httpd problem

Hi, I'm currently setting up an IP accouting machine using CentOS 6 and pmacct, compiled from source. The machine has two network interfaces : - a "normal" one, used for SSH remote administration and viewing the accouting data through a webserver (eth0) - a "monitor" one, plugged into a mirroring port of our switch and with no IP address defined (eth1) The accouting part works fine, but I'm getting problems with the webserver. To ensure there are no interference with the monitor interface, I set iptables to drop all the outbound traffic on eth1 and httpd in bound to the IP address of eth0, but I randomly become unable to contact the webserver; my browser tells me it couldn't contact it. The SSH access works fine and the CPU and memory usage are OK (5% CPU and 10% memory, our network is currently on low traffic). Any clues why this is happening ? Regards, Eric Viseur

Hi all. I am currently building a small test cloud based on Eucalyptus 2.0.3 and CentOS 5.8 x64. I have a choice which hypervisor to use: KVM or XEN. KVM is the default in CentOS 6 but I have read also many good things (for example PV guest machines, isolation between Dom0 and DomU) about XEN. Key factors from my opint of view are: - stability (which one runs more smoothly on CentOS?) - performance (XEN PV/HVM(with or without pv drivers) vs KVM HVM(with or without pv drivers)) - security Could you share your experience in these areas? php-pear missing from 5.8 (i386) metadata?

Hi, # yum install php-pear <snip> No package php-pear available. Nothing to do This is on CentOS 5.8 (i386). The package is available for both archs on the two mirrors I checked. I also tried a # yum clean headers # yum clean metadata # yum clean dbcache to no avail. Am I missing something or is it the metadata? Hello Everyone, I am having a problem with setting up port forwarding from one of our local CentOS machines to an AWS EC2 instance. We are wanting to make mysql connections over an ssh tunnel. In this case, lets say that hostA is our local machine, and hostB is the Amazon EC2 instance. I have tried several different variations (that I have found from google searching), including: from hostA: ssh -L 22222:hostB:3306 user@hostB from hostA: ssh -L 22222:localhost:3306 user@hostB from hostA: ssh -L 22222:hostB:3306 user@localhost No matter which variation I have tried, in every case, it will actually create an ssh connection to the hostB, and log me into hostB, giving me its prompt. If I try the port (22222) for the localhost (hostA) in another terminal window, it doesn't allow the connection. netstat also doesn't show port 22222 to be opened on the local machine (hostA). I have turned on AllowTcpForwarding on both the remote machine and the local machine. I have also made sure that port 22222 is opened on both machine firewalls (including the EC2 security group). Hi, all I have a number of machines that are out of sync with one another by virtue of having done a yum update after a base 6.2 install at different times (all were previous CentOS 5.3) Consequently, systems are a mix of 2.6.32-220.7.1, 2.6.32-220.13.1 or 2.6.32-220.17.1. So 2 questions: - Is it possible to perform a yum update (or another other kind of update), specifying installation of, say, kernel 2.6.32-220.17.1 along with the packages that were relevant at the time when 2.6.32-220.17.1 was current? - Is it possible to capture and save for future installations the current kernel rev and associated packages as exist in the repos today and install as a "frozen-in-time" distribution? thanks! - c sawyer

AMD Opteron 1218 wrong CPU metrics in 6.3

Hello all, since upgrade to 6.3 (and kernel 2.6.32-279.x) it looks like only one core of the AMD Dualcore Opteron 1218 is functional. Reverting to previous kernel shows everything working as expected. I've filed a bug report here after failing to figure out if it is just a configuration problem: http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=5821 I can't find anything on the net that would explain where the problem is. /proc/cpuinfo shows two cores, but top and /proc/stat show basically one core working: - top shows cpu0 idle constantly at 0%, and sporadic 100%sy or 50%sy 50%us, which can't be right - /proc/stat shows cpu0 idle and iowat at 0 - Munin CPU graph shows 200% available but metrics go only up to 100% - mpstat -P ALL shows proper %idle for both cores, but still core0 gets either 100%sy or 50%sy 50%us sporadically. I've also got this in the logs, possibly due to BIOS, and I don't know if it is related, I've seen it with 6.2 too. I have 4 ST2000DL003-9VT166 (2Tbyte) disks in a RAID 5 array. Because of the size I built them as a GPT partitioned disk. If you use a kickstart file to build unattended servers (eg virt-install) then new disks or virtual volumes will cause problems unless you have "zerombr true" in the kickstart file eg zerombr yes clearpart --all --initlabel part /boot --fstype=ext4 --asprimary --size=100 part swap --asprimary --size=512 part / --fstype=ext4 --asprimary --grow --size=1 (CentOS 6.2 didn't need zerombr). Also FWIW, lines such as repo --name="CentOS" --baseurl=http://repo/CentOS/DVD/CentOS-6 repo --name="Updates" --baseurl=http://repo/CentOS/updates/centos6/x86_64 now work. In CentOS6.2 this would fail with dependency problems. Whether that's just 'cos the updates repo doesn't have conflicting packages so far and it'll break in the future, but it's working today :-) -- rgds Stephen

What format is the images/pxeboot/initrd.img file on the DVD ? Its not gzip its not straight cpio What is it? I wish to change it. I'm finding information on changing the gzip version of initrd but not the PXE one. If I do "file initrd.img" it just says data. Thanks, Jerry

Yes, i've gotten myself on the ReaR mailing list now. You're right - documentation is pretty dire. Guess i'm not alone in hating doing it. USB backup is broken due to the order in which path variables get set - sure is lot of fun trawling through the scripts to find out what gets set when. Hope the ReaR maintainers are interested in this and haven't gotten themselves mired in tape archive integration - i would have thought USB backup was the winner in terms of getting broad acceptance as a bare-metal DR solution. However, when it works - wow. Just restored an HP dl360 w/HWRAID to a Presario desktop machine and it lives! No network, but that's small beans compared to the larger win. - csawyer

[CentOS 6.3] rsyslog 5.8.10-2 - PreserveFQDN directive ignored

Hello, I recently upgraded a server from CentOS 6.2 to 6.3 I found a change in the behavior of rsyslog's configuration file that I found particularly interesting. The "$PreserveFQDN on" directive was not being recognized as the config remained unchanged during the upgrade. This incorrect behavior caused the host to syslog with only the host name and not it's fully qualified domain name. ** Has anyone else experienced this odd behavior? ** I did find a workaround [0] [1], but feel this behavior is a bug. Note the bugreport linked previously was for version 5.4.0 and reported in July 2010. If I make $PreserveFQDN the _first_ directive it syslogs with the FQDN otherwise the directive is ignored. System crash -- no clue why

Hi -- My CentOS 5.8 server crashed, leaving no clue why. The last entry in /var/log/messages is a dhcpd notice around 4:00am, followed by the restart message when I rebooted. The only clue that I have is that the fan was running full speed when I restarted it. The fan slowed to normal speed. CentOS 5.8 crash/freeze running VMware

Hi -- I have a server running CentOS 5.8. It has a 6-core AMD processor, 16Gb memory, and a RAID 5 file system. It serves as both a file server and to run several VMware virtual machines. The guest machines run Windows 7 and various versions of Linux. The system is running the latest version of VMware Workstation. Until recently, I started VMs using the VMware Workstation GUI. The system has been very stable and seldom crashes. Recently, I set up an init script to start several VMs at boot time using the vmrun command. This appeared to work correctly, but the system has become unstable, freezing at various times. When the system freezes, there is no console response and it does not respond to a ping. There is nothing in syslog to indicate any error. The script started 8 VMs. I've cut back to now running 4 VMs and the system appears stable. Is there some relation between the number of cores and the number of VMs one can run? Is there something else which might cause the system to crash when running multiple VMs? [Clustering] No OCFS2 Clusters with Pacemaker/Corosync?

Hello Fellow CentOS users. I was hoping to get some information on Pacemaker clusters using OCFS2 on CentOS 6.x. In my initial attempts to get this to work, I realized that Pacemaker is packaged much differently on CentOS than it is on Debian or SUSE. For example, /usr/sbin/dlm_controld.pcmk is missing and ocfs2-tools is nowhere to be found. Users could of course pull in packages from say Oracle Enterprise Linux, but I was curious as to why this is the case? Is OCFS2 not supported on CentOS? Thanks for the insight.

Does anybody have a working version of tcptrack running on Centos 6 x64? The rpmforge rpm installs and runs on the -t eth# command, but if you add a port to it, it bombs with a pcap compile error. I have installed "lockfile-progs.x86_64" on a CentOS 5.8 and i have the programm "lockfile" and "lockfile-check, lockfile-create, lockfile-remove, lockfile-touch" in /usr/bin/. QT menu decorations missing on Centos 6

See this screenshot for an example of what I get when I run qtconfig-qt4 on Centos 6 and select a menu: http://www.melvilletheatre.com/screenshot-qt-example.png If the list is long, the menu extends from the top to the bottom of my physical screen, with a little arrow at the top and the bottom which, if I sit the mouse pointer on the arrow, makes the list scroll up and down. As you can see, the decorations (scroll bar, etc) are missing. I don't think it's a configuration issue, but rather an issue of a missing library, or missing functionality in a library. Hi all, I just read about some kind of bug regarding webmin not being able to work with bind if chroot is enabled. Webmin was working fine for me until I chose to update it, and then the bug showed (running Centos 6.2 BTW). So the fix was to disable chroot in the webmin bind module config, seems counter intuitive. Any one mind sharing some nuggets on this? I'm working with bind via cli no issue but this new crop of sys admins have probs with that and want pictures, ie gui so my guys are a little troubled. - aurf

NIS expiration of passwords

Dear all, I have a NIS server which shares a database of users between some computers (nodes exactly) and I would like that, on the first login, the user changes its password. So, on the NIS server I have made: chage -d 0 USER Then: # cd /var/yp # make On the NIS server I have: chage -l USER Last password change : password must be changed Password expires : password must be changed Password inactive : password must be changed Account expires : never Minimum number of days between password change : 0 Maximum number of days between password change : 99999 Number of days of warning before password expires : 7 I would believe this information is shared from the server to the other computers but here users still can connect (via SSH). If I try to get the information on the user connected I have: # chage -l USER user 'USER' does not exist in /etc/passwd This looks normal as there is no user there but then I do not know how to enable the expiration information through NIS. bind: root hints named.ca and named.root

For 6.x I have both of these files in my /var/named directory, probably copied when upgraded. named.ca date inside the file is dated 2008 and named.root is from a few months ago. Am I correct in assuming that named.ca is old and that I should be using named.root in my named.conf files? Is it SOP to use the latest from ftp://ftp.internic.net/domain/named.root thx -- Mike

Strange alterations to vim and related packages on KVM host

OS CentOS-6.2 with updates to present. I use git on this host to manage configuration changes and to monitor package alterations. This is not meant to be a security check. It is simply a way for me to easily recover from fumble fingered configuration changes. Yesterday git status reported that the following files had changed since the previous commit: # modified: ../usr/bin/gdb # modified: ../usr/bin/gvim # modified: ../usr/bin/vim I therefore reinstalled these three packages using yum reinstall and committed the change to git. commit b87a8b2116ef22cc013fd5dc6f525d672d52570a Author: sysadmin.root.vhost01.hamilton <sysadmin.root.vhost01.hamilton@harte-lyn Date: Tue Jul 3 16:22:34 2012 -0400 Reinstalled gdb, vim and vim-X11 due to unexpected changes in executable files. Given what I have committed to the git repository I am satisfied that these are the only system files that have changed. None of the files in /var/log show any entries relating to these files immediately prior to the reinstall yesterday. What entries do exist go back to when the software was first installed and none are more recent than several months ago. The git commit on this host previous to yesterday was the Kernel update on June 19. At that time the subject files were the same as when they were originally installed. This host does not accept any direct IP connections from IP addresses outside our internal server subnet (a.b.c.0/192). Access is blocked via IPTables at the gateway and again on the host itself. Some VM guests do allow public or otherwise less restricted access but the VM host itself does not. I am of course deeply suspicious of these circumstances but I cannot see how this could be the result of some outside agency. Therefore, I am at a loss to explain these changes. What I need to discover is what agency changed these files and why. In the meantime I have removed the gdb, vim-enhanced and vim-X11 packages from that host. Question about storage for virtualisation

Hi ! I'm about to deploy a new server that will host several virtual host for mainly website hosting purposes. My server will be a Xeon 3440 or 3450 with 32 gigs of ram (the max of that board). So I will have 8 logical cores. At the moment, I don't know how many vms I will have, in the order of 5 or 6. I am quite new to managing VMs, I did play alot with them over the course of the last couple of weeks. I used kvm to startup and manage my vms and my main source of info was this blog entry : http://blog.mattbrock.co.uk/2012/02/12/virtualisation-with-kvm-and-lvm-on-c… I have some general questions about VM. If I set vcpu let's say to 2-3 for a single vm, does this mean that those CPU are dedicated to that vm or many vm can share the same physicial cpus ? So, I was wondering what's the best for managing storage for VMs ? I see mostly recomandations for LV for storing VM's disks. It seem to helps to create snapshots for backup purposes. Is this the fastest way of creating backups ? And will data access be faster that if I use regular files ? In my case, the "main" setup of each vm is rather simple. The minimal OS, updates, my own httpd, my own php a couple of other packages. So restoring a VM from scratch can take less than an hour. So I was thinking of not taking snapshot of the whole VM and only sync the data partition. As for the guest paritions, I am accustomed of separating my servers disks with separate /, /usr, /var, /home and /data partitions. I can't recall today why I started doing this, 15 years ago, but I still like it that way and continue to do so. Do I still "need" to do this with VMs ? Thanks for the help !

Re occurring LTO5 hw issue

Hi all, We have 2 LTO5 drives in a Quantum Scalar i500. Within a years time, we have gone through 4 drives total and luckily we are on support. We catch the problem by doing 2 verifies on the archives; a full virtual restore were the entire tape(s) are read and then a real selective restore were we test the restored data. We have 650TB on tapes within a years time. Any one have similar experiences with LTO5 drives? My data room may be a little dusty but nothing to sneeze at :) - aurf

A parted issue

We just got in a few server-class drives. They're Seagate Constellations, 3TB. I went to partition and format, and did a mklabel gpt in parted. Ooops. It claims Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B After data sheet that doesn't tell me, and a long wait*, I spoke to a Seagate tech, who agreed that it *is* 4k physical. This is CentOS 6.2 Anyone know any way to correct this, or if it's a problem if I manually align the partition to sector 64, or 1M? mark * Seagate "live chat" announced that it doesn't support my browser (firefox!!!), only IE, Safari, and chrome. I told the tech of my complaint and surprise to his manager.....

Universal server hardware platform - which to choose?

Hi all. I am working for a hosting provider in Poland. We are currently searching for an universal, extensible hardware platform which we would like to use in our server infrastructure. The platform should have: - possibility to install up to 32GB of RAM and at least 4 slots for it; - at least 6 SATA ports; - the possibility to use SAS disks; - at least one 1Gb/s network interface and the possibility to add another one; - size of 2 or 3U; - hot swap for disks. We are looking for a solution in which we would be able to deploy a basic server with for example 2 SATA disks, 8GB of RAM, 1 NIC, 4 cors and to be able to use the same enclosure and motherboard and extend it to deploy a more heavy-duty server with for example 6 SATA disks, 24GB of RAM, 2 NICs, 8 cors. Which manufacturer can you recommend and why? We are looking for something rather not expensive but reliable which has a good support. How to handel smtp to public servers

Hi, we do have some subnetworks for private computers, which are allowed to use there public smtp servers like msn, web.de or whatever with the users private accounts. All our own computers have to send mail trough our mailserver with user authentication. From time to time we are faced with the fact, that a virus infected private notebook sends spam and we are told by our ISP to take care :) What might be a good choice to allow clients to send unrestricted transparent mails (= use smtp(s)) but we can monitor? E.g. like a redirect or proxy for smtp? How to configure time on virtual clients using KVM?

I use a CentOS5.8 server with KVM. I have several virtual machines running on it. When I reboot the server (takes 10 minutes) all VMs are saved and correctly restored. The time on the clients is however of by 10 minutes. nptd is running on the clients and that is able to correct this big mismatch. But what I don't understand is that the host does not seem to help the client with it's timekeeping. On a fedora16 machine I can tell that kvm-clock is being used: cat /sys/devices/system/clocksource/clocksource0/available_clocksource kvm-clock tsc acpi_pm cat /sys/devices/system/clocksource/clocksource0/current_clocksource kvm-clock One the centos5 client I can think I see the same: dmesg|grep time.c time.c: Using 1.193182 MHz WALL KVM GTOD KVM timer. If I suspend a client, I see the time is correct just after resume. Is there something I can change to kick the time during a restore? A second related question is what happens after a live migrate. I can migrate the VMs to a different machine, but that machine has slightly different specs. I notice that the clock speed is really off (minutes per hour need to be corrected after a live migrate). I guess the client gets a differt CPU clock on the other host. Is there a way to update the client without a reboot? A reboot helps, so I guess some timer calibration takes place then. But that defeats the purpose of a live migrate. Theo

unixODBC Centos 5 Testing version

Trying to get a later version of the unixODBC RPM that is in Centos 5, I read in some posting that unixODBC.x86_64 2.2.12-1.el5s2 was in the testing repo but I was unable to locate it, currently it appears that we are runningunixODBC-2.2.11-7.1. I have looked in the Centos 5 Testing repo but do not see the 2.2.12 version....anyone have any pointers to move me along, thanks.

Dear All To install gimp from the install media on my centos 6.2 , I found the install media from the output of #df command and modified the baseurl inside the /etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Media.repo to point to the correct media then issued : #yum --disablerepo=\* --enablerepo=c6-media install gimp But it is unsuccessful. I have the line: request tftp-server-name; in my centos 6.2 dhclient-eth0.conf file If the tftp-server-name is given by the DHCP server everything is fine. however, if it is NOT given the client seems to error out and does not get an address and is not on the network. I then take the line out and do service network restart and it works just fine. How can I make this an optional thing? If the server can provide it fine if not thats fine and just keep going? Hello listmates, Has anybody attempted to run an XFS in a file mounted via -o loop? The file size is about 20 TB and it resides in a larger XFS filesystem residing on a disk. That filesystem's size is about 25 TB. What sort of degradation should one expect under that sort of scenario? The reason I am asking is that I am trying to run a MooseFS chunkserver in that filesystem-in-a-file and looks like I am getting some pretty bad delays. Thanks. Boris.

We're trying to debug a problem: a server that reboots spontaneously when this user's large, multithreaded program's running. Sometimes it won't do it for hours, other times it's literally every 10 min. I've run iostat, netstat, have top running, tail -f /var/log/dmesg, *nada*. Nothing out of the ordinary. One thing that's constant: as the system's coming back up, we see a segv of pbs_mom (we're using torque for clustering), and every time it saves the core dump, then a second or so later, Jun 26 14:29:58 <servername> abrtd: Package 'torque-mom' isn't signed with proper key Jun 26 14:29:58 <servername> abrtd: Corrupted or bad dump /var/spool/abrt/ccpp-2012-06-26-14:29:57-3086 (res:2), deleting I've changed /etc/abrt/abrtd.conf to tell it to save cores from programs not associated with packages (his program's not), and still; neither the man page nor googling has found anything. So, does anyone know either why it thinks it's corrupt, or how I can make it *stop* deleting it? mark

HI guys, I have a question related to outing root@ emails from my server. I have a centos server with sendmail and I have installed fail2ban and iptables firewall recently. The problem is: SNDS by hotmail (microsoft) has listed my server on RED color claiming sending SPAM from my server, but I completely secure but I am quite sure you have blocked sending emails from the root account 'on the server, I tried it. Python version fights.

Greets; This centos6.2 system seems to have python-2.6.6, but that is turning into a huge problem because I now have a backlog of about 40 packages that will not upgrade because they all need python 2.4. That, and importing gpg keys doesn't seem to be helping in that regard. But first, how to go about down grading python to 2.4? Thanks. I've downloaded and md5sum checked the Centos 6.2 DVD1 and burnt it to a DVD. Should there be an option to check the DVD media from the grub boot menu please? Greetings all, newbie to CentOS here. Also newbie to 64 bit installs. Package Manager problem: I found a yumex, which is not part of the 64 bit install, but it wants a way older version of python-2.4 whereas we have 2.6.6-something after the post install upgrade. 1st Question: Is there anything that can be done about this? Or is there something better, like a 64 bit synaptic to replace yumex? Mail problem: I've been using a fetchmail -> procmail system here for years to unload kmail from its mail pulling duties, making it many times easier to use. Adjuncts to that are spamassassin, clamav, and mailfilter There appears not to be any 64 bit builds of clamav and mailfilter. Boom on a 64 bit machine. 2nd Question: How best to fix that? I know enough C to be dangerous, but somewhere between .0000zip and absolutely nothing about c++. There are other mail related problems, like a missing inotifywait and its library, but moving the 32 bit versions into what appeared to be the correct locations, and that seems to work 99% well. Suffice to say mail is moving, but the noise filters aren't working. Thanks to anyone who can help here. Upgrading from 5.7 to 5.8

My box did upgrade itself automatically from the initial 5.5 DVD installation to 5.7 How can I tell if my box has been automatically upgraded from 5.7 to 5.8 please? I see the CentOS-CR.repo is still in my /etc/yum.repos.d/ directory. Is that repo responsible for doing the automatic upgrades for Centos 5.x?
