I have been getting the following error when trying to run ldconfig: ldconfig: /usr/lib64/libfreebl3.so is not a symbolic link # ll /usr/lib64/libfreebl3.so -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 312336 Mar 28 11:13 /usr/lib64/libfreebl3.so I've used "yum whatprovides /usr/lib64/libfreeb13.so" to determine that this file belongs to nss. I have tried to reinstall nss but that does not fix the problem. Any ideas? How can I fix this?

Rsync Directories

Hey List, I am setting up an rsync daemon (not something I normally do, I normally use rsync over ssh but I'm trying to set up an rsync server and have clients sync their local directories with what is on the server) and I am wondering about the directory entries within the rsyncd.conf. You can add entries in the rsyncd.conf file for directories such as; [Example] comment = "My example directory" path /to/example/dir When using rsync on the client side, how do I specify to only sync the directories in my rsync daemon config file. As I said, I normally use rsync over ssh and just rsync <options> /local/dir user@host:/remote/dir how can I say "rsync <options> user@host /local/folderlist" and have it sync all the folders configured in the server's rsync.conf to a folder on a client called /local/folderlist? -- Regards, James. http://www.jamesbensley.co.cc/

What is the significance of these files? Adding Repositories and using yum to download packages

Hi I am using CentOS 5.3 and after installing the OS i scrolled to the /etc/yum.repos.d directory and i could not find any repositories being present there. So i googled a bit on adding the repositories and found the link: http://www.osresources.com/index.php?action=artikel&cat=11&id=6&artlang=en then when i try to install the net-snmp package that i require to monitor my box i get the following error: [root@sc-devld-1 etc]# yum install net-snmp Loading "rhnplugin" plugin Loading "installonlyn" plugin Repository base is listed more than once in the configuration Repository contrib is listed more than once in the configuration Repository centosplus is listed more than once in the configuration Repository addons is listed more than once in the configuration Repository extras is listed more than once in the configuration This system is not registered with RHN. setup firewall with 3 nic cards

I am trying to setup some rules on a box with 3 nic cards. Two internet connections and one office connection. eth0 is office eth1 is internet T1 eth2 is internet Cable when I do "iptables -F" then iptables -L everything is gone as it should be. Then I do iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp -d $MYIP --dport 6550 -j DNAT --to $INTERNAL_ADDRESS:6550 iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -d $INTERNAL_ADDRESS -j SNAT --to $GWIP then I do iptables -L again and the rule is not there. Am I missing something? I have tried -I and -A both. Thanks, Jerry

Hi, Does setting the autofs timeout=0 create a permanent mount? What I'm trying to do is get the best of both world; 1) Have a persistent mount so that users can use autocompletion. 2) utilize the benefits of autofs so that when an NFS resource becomes unavailable, the system doesn't hang. I've tried a timeout of 0 but it doesn't seem to work.

Hi all, This is unusual for me to observe. I've a dhcp server running on Centos 5.3 and it takes a while to answer clients asking for an address. This is playing some havoc with certain scripts at startup not fully working because of the address delay. I've even used a dhcp helper address type function in my Juniper router but nothing has changed. Any ideas?

Hello all, About a year ago I set up a mail server on CentOS using this howto: http://wanderingbarque.com/howtos/mailserver/mailserver.html I managed to add amavisd-new with clamav and spamassassin. It runs very well, but it runs on CentOS 5.2, and if I try to upgrade, amavisd-new and clamav break. we are now also at the point where a backup mx will need to be implemented. If necessary I am willing to implement a new mail server and a new backup mx. What I would like to know is what solution you guys would recommend for the mail server and the backup MX? Hello. I tried to compile a program (plugger), but I don't have *any* sort of compiler installed. This is on Cent5.3. So, I used Package Manager, concentrating on gcc. Yum checkupdate tells me I should update memcached, that the x86_64 1.4.5-1.el5 needs an update, I go to do that, and it complains that it's missing a dependency of libevent-1.4.so.2 (this is all 64 bit, CentOS 5.4). Clues... or is this actually broken? mark

I have a new instllation of tomcat on centos. My $CATALINA_HOME is /usr/share/tomcat5 and tomcat is running. http://localhost:8080 brings up the tomcat page & one of the option is "Administration". I would like to use this web interface and even give some of the test webapp users ability to restart tomcat. According to the home page, users are defined in $CATALINA_HOME/conf/tomcat-users.xml. Hi, I've been building a gtkmm project on ubuntu and things run smoothly. Now i have to move the project to CentOS 5.4. I set up rpm forge and installed gtkmm. Turns out that the package on rpmforge is too old that my project doesn't compile. One of my servers has recently started giving an error every time I run "aide --check". I ran it manually twice today with the same results. The second time, I added the -V flag, but that didn't give me anything useful. The system is currently running CentOS 5.3. Nothing on the system has changed recently (that I am aware of). The Aide database hasn't been updated in a few months. This is the error I am seeing: Caught SIGBUS/SEGV while mmapping. File was truncated while aide was running? Caught SIGBUS/SEGV. Resolving dependencies from the command-line

CenOS 5.4 x64 I'm stuck at the command-line. I'm only familiar with the RPM command, but AFAIK, that cannot automatically resolve any dependencies when installing packages. Is there a command-line utility that I can force to automatically install all the dependencies for a particular package? I seem to remember a new UI was added recently that could, but I have to complete this from a prompt. Marco

Hi everyone, I'm trying to install a XenServer on a server (ref:S5000PAL) http://www.intel.com/products/server/motherboards/s5000pal/s5000pal-overvie… The installation failed because of lack of Raid driver, I found this out because I tried to install XenServer without raid and it worked great. I tried so many drivers, I don't know what to do I tried also this trick : http://forums.citrix.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1456872&#1456872 with this : http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18570&lang=f… driver, but it didn't work (I use the SATA Raid controler not the SAS, so it seems that I have to find the good driver for ESB2 but I'm not sure and it uses megasr driver) Anyone as a clue ? I tried to set in sendmail.mc file at the LAST line define(`LUSER_RELAY', `local:unknownuser') dnl I did service sendmail restart and got an error on a completely different line. - as a thought I deleted that line and put it on line 2 of the sendmail.mc file. re-ran service sendmail restart and now it worked. dhclient.conf being ignored!

It seems that the prominent North American Enterprise Linux vendor has decided that dhclient.conf should be ignored, i.e. ifup-eth causes dhclient to be called with "-cf /etc/dhclient-$(DEVICE).conf", and then ifup-eth/ifdown-eth wipes the file out each time. Through the use of "DHCP_HOSTNAME" in ifcfg-eth0 you can specify a host name, but because of the above behavior of ifup-eth other options don't seem to be able to be passed to dhclient. I tried placing supersede ntp-servers into dhclient-up-hooks, but that also seems to be ignored, and my google fu seems to be failing on how to build dhclient-enter-hooks for the purpose (if that would even help). anyone got better suggestions than: a) mod /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup-eth to build /etc/dhclient-$(DEVICE).conf combining the options I want. b) brute forcing things with `chattr +i /etc/ntp.conf` -- Todd Denniston Crane Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC Crane) Harnessing the Power of Technology for the Warfighter

nfs4 help needed

Fedora 13 is using nfs4, and there is a problem in opening files requiring OpenOffice if accessed over an nfs3 mount, so it's time to change. I found a couple of tutorials, and got it *almost* working correctly. This is where I need help. Logwatch tells me /nfs4exports/Data1 and /Data1 have same filehandle for *,192.168.0.0/24,192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0, using first The tutorial I was following suggested making a root connection as ro, then the data connections as rw, so I have /nfs4exports 192.168.0.0/24 (ro,sync,insecure,root_squash,no_subtree_check,fsid=0) /nfs4exports/Data1 192.168.0.0/24(rw,insecure,no_subtree_check,nohide) /nfs4exports/home 192.168.0.0/24(rw,insecure,no_subtree_check,nohide) However, when I ls nfs4exports I get Data1 home which ties in, I think, with the logwatch report. Can someone please explain what I've misunderstood, and what I should do to put it right? Thanks Anne

I've successfully rebuilt Red Hat EL PHP 5.2.10 RPMs using mock on a CentOS 5.4 i386. I wanted to be able to build both x86_64 and i386 versions so I reinstalled my builder system with CentOS 5.4 x86_64. Now I can build the PHP RPM successful for x86_64, but i386 fails with the following during configure /usr/bin/net-snmp-config: line 43: net-snmp-config-x86_64: command not found For the commands I am using mock -r centos-5-x86_64 php-5.2.10-1.el5s2.src.rpm mock -r centos-5-i386 php-5.2.10-1.el5s2.src.rpm I went into the shell on the i386 build environment mock -r centos-5-i386 shell The contents of /usr/bin/net-snmp-config has arch=`arch` echo $arch | grep -q i.86 ...... if [ "$arch" = "x86_64" ] ; then net-snmp-config-x86_64 $* exit 0 fi When I run arch from the mock shell I get x86_64. Shouldn't it see the correct architecture inside of mock? I thought that was the point of mock so I could build both i386 and x86_64 versions on the same system. Thanks, Ryan

We are running fairly tight already and because these are virtual environments in a cluster, adding a meg or so per listener can equate to multiple gigs across all the machines in the virtual host cluster.

is it possible to resive /var online?

Hi all, Is it possible, safely, to resize /var while a server is running? I urgently need to resize a full 2GB /var on a running server which is located at a remote location where no one can get to it for 2 days? The system runs on lvm. I already moved /var/logs to it's own LVM partition but it didn't help at all so I think it's better to rather just resize it. Google searches suggest taking the server offline, or boot into single mode. I'm doing some testing, and have been getting this 550 5.1.1 ....User unknown error when I send the email to my company's email address. 32-bit boot CD for 64-bit install using kickstart

Hi, I am using kickstart method for CentOS installation. The install is done using mirror site URL and not CD/DVD ISOs. However, the system is initially booted from 32-bit CentOS CD. When the install process starts I get errors as: - package rpm not found - abort/continue? - package lvm2 not found - abort/continue? - package grub not found - abort/continue? - ... - ... If I change install URL to 32-bit ISOs then everything works fine. Do I need to use 64-bit boot CD for this install? -- CS.

CentOS 5.4 off-center on SuperMicro console

I have a weird situation with a new installation of CentOS 5.4 x64, on a SuperMicro X7SBI server. The server has a <a href=" http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon3000/3210/X7SBi.cfm" target="_new">SuperMicro X7SBi motherboard</a>, board ATI ES1000 and Core2Quad Q9505 CPU. The kernel is When I login to the console, using a "17 CRT monitor (haven't tested others), the screen is off-center to the right. It's not the monitor, since I have another CentOS 5.4 server, running on an Intel motherboard that looks normal with this setup. Reverse engineering USB devices

I'm pretty sure this is the wrong list, but maybe some clever people here can redirect me... I have a "RCA RS2100 Bookshelf Audio System" http://www.woot.com/blog/viewentry.aspx?id=2744 This is radio/CD/mp3 player... PLUS it can stream audio wirelessly. You plug a USB device into your PC and you can remote control what gets played from the RS2100 remote control ("Wireless Musiclink"). BUT only with Windows Media Center. When I plugged the device in it appears to look like 3 devices; a HID, an audio device and something else I can't remember (I'm not at that machine at the moment). My feeling is that the HID is used to inject commands from the RS2100 (eg "play track <x>"), the audio device is for streaming and the third device is feedback for the remote display. The question I have... how can I reverse engineer the protocol used so that I can make this work on my CentOS machine? (I don't want to run a Windows instance just for remote audio!). C5: correct place for routing scripts?

Hello I have several Centos 4 and Centos 5 servers. Because of the nature of the environment, there are some static arp entries made with arp command and then source routing made with "ip rule/ip route" -commands. Those commands are now placed at /etc/rc.d/rc.local which is bad: if server is rebooted, those commands will be done correctly but if administrator restarts network with "/etc/init.d/network restart", source routes will disappear. RedHat/Centos qualified admin knows only about network restart init script, so I try to avoid doing any hacks. I could edit the init script (/etc/init.d/network) but changes could disappear with updates. So, what is the correct place for different commands (arp, ip, whatever) that is executed (a) once when network started (b) once when network stopped (I don't need but nice to know) (c) once per every interface (I don't need but nice to know) Best Regards, Kimmo

Hi all, Does anyone know, if it's possible to reroute all (i.e. HTTP / FTP / DNS / SMTP / POP3 / IMAP / etc) from an ADSL connected machine via another server, which is currently hosted with IS and has full internet access? i.e. Can I setup another machine, on a different public IP than the dynamic ADSL IP as default gw? OR do I need todo something on that machine to work as a router for such a setup? X11 problem with remote login via SSH

HI all! Strange problem that began occurring in last few weeks. Centos 5.4, up to date. I sometimes log in remotely via ssh using "ssh -X" and read mail via mutt. Now and then I want to use balsa instead. This has always worked (for years) though it's kinda slow... but in the last few weeks it has begun failing and spewing errors like this, repeatedly, apparently forever until I enter ^C: $ balsa Bonobo accessibility support initialized GTK Accessibility Module initialized X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication. ** ERROR **: Accessibility app error: exception during registry activation from id: IDL:Bonobo/GeneralError:1.0 aborting... It happens from two different linux boxen (one running Fedora 12, the other running Centos 5.4) so I gather it's something weird on the host rather than the client. BTW, it works fine when I'm logged in to to the host's X11 GUI directly from the machine. I've got no clue, can any of you shed any light on this please? i have seen many times the given error, there was no log about error. Beside this my machine never uses swap i realize that when i have last 500 Mb ram it get this error and after using 5Gb of 8 Gb it decreasing like plane crash :) I've found this form and it is the same with my error : http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=913156 There could be a hardware problem i am not sure , i see this error at least one time in a day. Do you have an advice ? unluckeyly i have found only one people who has the same error with me :) and his machine is also same with mine :D

mapping drives

I am having trouble mounting drives. We have a Windows 2008 (10.1.1.17, MRISRV02) server with folders I what access to. On my Fedora 8 client, in my fstab file, I have: //10.1.1.17/USERS/Jeff /home/mriuser/Desktop/jeff cifs rw,username=cluster,password=mrilab 0 0 and this works just fine. My samba is up to date: [mriuser@localhost ~]$ rpm -qa | grep "samba" samba-common-3.0.33-0.fc8 samba-3.0.33-0.fc8 system-config-samba-1.2.58-1.fc8 samba-client-3.0.33-0.fc8 However, we also have a CentOS 4 64bit "pseudo-server" machine. When I try to map the folders on this CentOS machine using an fstab entry like this: //10.1.1.17/USERS/Jeff /mnt/Jeff cifs rw,username=cluster,password=mrilab 0 0 It maps the USERS folder to /mnt/Jeff. I can cd into Users and then cd into Jeff, but I want to be able to go straight into Jeff and not have access to the rest of the user folders. I just upgraded my samba from 3.0.25 to 3.0.33 and have not restarted. [root@cluster mnt]# rpm -qa | grep "samba" samba-client-3.0.33-0.18.el4_8.1 samba-common-3.0.33-0.18.el4_8.1 samba-common-3.0.33-0.18.el4_8.1 Can anyone please help me out? Thank you!! Jeff

iSCSI / GFS shared web server file system

We currently have a MD3000i with an iSCSI LUN shared out to our apache web server. We are going to add another apache web server into the mix using LVS to load balance, however, I am curious how well iSCSI handles file locking and data integrity. I have the iSCSI partition formatted as ext3. Is my setup totally flawed and will ext3 not allow for data integrity with multiple apache hosts reading/writing to the shared storage? Am I required to also setup GFS across my apache hosts or does iSCSI somehow manage this? Thanks for helping clear this up, James

Transparent proxy with LVS

I've managed to configure a LVS Cluster to act as a transparent proxy squid farm, with a virtual server as load balancer, and three real servers. Because redirecting packets going to port 80 to port 3128 of squid in the load balancer doesn't works, the solution has a mix of ip route and iptables. In the real servers there's a rule in the prerouting chain to redirect those packets to port 3128 I'm using pulse service to start lvs, and would like to add the ipvsadm rules to the /etc/sysconfig/ha/lvs.cf, so they are issued by pulse at startup. I can't figure out how to do it. When I try to start pulse, it fails because i left the address field empty. But this service is not tied to any address, I just want the fwmark match to forward the packets to the real servers. I also have dns in this lvs cluster. Hi Did anyone managed to configure RHEL 6 beta to authenticate using NIS? During the installation the option to use NIS as authentication method is disable. NFS mount problem

Hi,guys: I am trying to connect to a NFS-filesystem on a CentOS 5.3 i386 guest system. The host system is CentOS 5.4 x86_64. I set up the NFS server correctly and rpcinfo is also ok inside the guest system show. The problem is, I can't connect to, or see the open port from the outside. I use the Host-Only network setup with VirtualBox 3.1.0, the ip address in the guest system is 192.168.56.101 . and the host system ip address is 192.168.7.67 When I mount the directory from the guest system via NFS, the result is the following : "mount : 192.168.56.101:/xx failed , reason given by server:Permission denied" I hope one of you can give me a hint in which direction I should continue my efforts. Had zabbix at my last place... hated it... Use nagios + pnp4nagios now with sar running for detailed bits with a custom nagios plugin using sar for performance data. Help with NFSV4 server

Hi Everyone, I have been trying to setup an NFS v4 File Server but have come across an odd issue. Mounting the /nfs4exports/share appears to be successful and the information displayed about partition size and free space seem correct but if I try to do anything inside the mounted directory the client will just hang. Does anyone have any idea what I am missing?? You could use any of these hyperic, cricket depending on your needs and wants... I use/used cacti, ganglia, mrtg and hyperic... ganglia we currently use to gather performance data and replaced hyperic (better fit for us) and we also use cacti for collecting snmp data from switches and routers. I'm considering switching to cricket in place of cacti for performance reasons (only generates graphs when needed).

Well, we wanted to put an install on a USB key. Neither I nor the other admin was amused by the singing and dancing that the wiki offers - and just *why* is it that syslinux is broken? At any rate, I did some googling, and found <http://www.pendrivelinux.com/>, and I ran this installer. Ok, it has some bugs: a) I had several .isos, and it *insisted* on grabbing the first one, alphabetically, no matter that I put in the full name. It also takes for-bloody-ever - 4.5 *hours* for the 4G DVD. However, it finished, I stuck it into a laptop, told it to boot from the USB, and there was the begin install screen. *shrug* Looks good to me. I just do not understand why it's such a song and dance, rather than, say, syslinux /dev/sdb1 mount /dev/sdb1 /tmp/mnt mount -o loop CentOS....iso /mnt cp -pr /mnt/ /tmp/mnt mark

IPV6 and DNS...

Hi, I keep getting entries like these in my logs: network unreachable resolving '0.centos.pool.ntp.org/AAAA/IN': 2001:500:40::1#53: 1 Time(s) network unreachable resolving '0.centos.pool.ntp.org/AAAA/IN': 2001:500:e::1#53: 1 Time(s) network unreachable resolving '0.centos.pool.ntp.org/AAAA/IN': 2001:dc3::35#53: 1 Time(s) I don't see any IPV6 parameters to disable in named.conf, apart from the 'listen-on-v6' which I commented, and the 'query-source-v6' which is commented by default... I disabled IPV6 in the sysconfig files; but not in the modprobe.conf though... Can I just ignore these "errors"? Thx, JD

OT: Caching synchronous writes

[ Wish there was a generic, active Linux "storage" mailing list out there -- something other than the kernel lists I mean ] To frame the discussion, we use VMware ESX (vSphere) quite a bit with NFS datastores. Often times with NetApp, but lately, more often with Solaris 10 + ZFS + SSD's for ZIL (intent log or write cache). The ZIL lets us use synchronous writes (safer) without the normal delay. Were we to try and get the same level of performance with Linux, we'd need to use async mode for our NFS shares -- and we'd lose some reliability. However, given the latest rumblings and ruminations about Oracle potentially no longer selling entitlements for Solaris 10 on non-Sun hardware -- and then turning around and no longer allowing you to run Solaris 10 "freely", we're left with either OpenSolaris or looking at Linux again (we run Solaris 10 on Silicon Mechanics hardware). My question is, what are the various options for getting NFS in "sync" mode to run fast on Linux? Obviously we can buy a really nice disk controller with lots of cache, but I'm thinking more at the filesystem, volume manager or block driver layer. Is there a way to shunt write requests to a quicker medium like an SLC-based SSD (or NVRAM)? I don't see a way to do this with LVM, ext3/ext4 or even xfs... maybe btrfs will have some options along this line down the road, but that's tomorrow and not today. So is a beefy disk controller our best option? Even using our 3Ware 9650's w/ BBU so we can enable write-back doesn't seem to give us as good of write performance via NFS as ZFS+ZIL-on-SSD does... Problem shuting down server.

Have Centos 5.3 installed in a HP ML110 server. After cloning disk using Clonezilla, if I issue a shutdown -h now, or any other command to shut down the server (i.e. init 0 or poweroff), instead of shutting down the server reboots.
