Just installed DomU won't boot

Hi, I am using Centos 5.4 x86_64 with kernel 2.6.18-164.11.1.el5xen. There is two disadwantages with it: first, it's quite untrivial task to get it working under Centos, and second, it doesn't work anymore :) >From official fuse-gmailfs site (richard.jones.name): Gmail Filesystem no longer works with the latest Gmail interface, and will not be maintained in the future. BTW, according to google EULA, it's illegal to use gmail it that way. Gmail team could even disable you account. I would suggest you to take a look at dropbox, which provides 2-5Gb online storage with full desktop integration on lin/win/mac. At the moment it's quite tricky to install in under CentOS, because it uses python 2.5 (CentOS has python 2.4), but it's achievable: http://wiki.dropbox.com/TipsAndTricks/CnetOS-KDE-Install . Fancy GUI isn't working at the moment. I'm currently backporting it to CentOS, and I would like to include it in rpmforge (it's distributable). I estimate it in about one week. Git: help sought

I have a project using Git on machine A. I'm running a Centos server on machine B. I'd like to "publish" the project on machine B (mainly for my own use, so I can access it from various sites). I've asked about this on a Git mailing list, but haven't understood the replies. In particular, a couple of people suggested gitolite, but when I examined this I couldn't make out what it did. As will be obvious I am a Git newbie, having been reared on SVN. voice chat on centos with gtalk users.

hi all, i have a centos 5.4 64 bit system running on the base hardware of my system and have windows machines running in virtual in vmware workstation. i need something to *voice chat* with *GTALK* users. In the windows VMs i can install gtalk for windows which does support voice chat, but the problem there is the microphone doesnt get detected inside the VMs. incase of centos installed on the base i can get the microphone but i can find a utility to voice chat. i have heard of empathy, but i cant find a yum repository for it. anyway i can get the mic detected inside the VM? or any utility for voice chat with Gtalk users in centos ?? can anyone plz help me with it? thanks, Arvind

OT: free DNS service?

I have been using a free DNS service for the past seven (7) years. This morning, at 4 A.M., , I changed the "A" record for one of my web sites, to point to an IP address on a different server, so I could test. After watching the TTL count down from 3600 to zero, with the "dig" command, it then reset to 3600, but still resolved to the original IP address. :-) I set the "A" record back to the original IP address and filed a Support Ticket with that company, but if they cannot get this to work properly again, I need a new DNS service that is free. Recommendations? (BTW, the Domain is registered with GoDaddy, but not hosted there, so it appears I cannot use their "Total DNS" service). TIA! Here's an odd one: I installed apcupsd, and it works with most of our UPSs. I'd swear it worked on this one. Then I replaced the Gin-u-wine APC batteries, which were dead, with new ones, non-APC. They're just dumb batteries, no chips or whatever on them. If I hook it up using a serial cable, I can get info. If I hook it up the way I had it, with APC's weird USB cable - and this is the way it was working before - it fails. I run apctest, and it gives me: Attached to driver: usb sharenet.type = DISABLE cable.type = USB_CABLE You are using a USB cable type, so I'm entering USB test mode mode.type = USB_UPS Setting up the port ... Hello, this is the apcupsd Cable Test program. This part of apctest is for testing USB UPSes. Getting UPS capabilities...SUCCESS Then I tell it to do the self test, and get: This test instructs the UPS to perform a self-test operation and reports the result when the test completes. Clearing previous self test result...CLEARED Initiating self test...INITIATED Waiting for test to complete...ERROR READING STATUS 12.976 apcupsd: linux-usb.c:802 HIDIOCGREPORT for function SelftestStatus failed. ERR=Input/output error Now, I've even found an rpm that was *not* two+ years old, as what comes with CentOS 5.4, current update, and get the same error. In addition, even though the batteries are fully charged, and the info I get via the serial cable says they're at 100%, the red "change battery" light is still on on the front of the UPS. Hitting the "test" button doesn't help; I was hoping running the self-test that's available via the USB connection would reset it, but I can't do that. Any clues for the poor? mark

trouble shooting slow ssh logins

Hi all, I noticed that my ssh logins to a particular server were taking up to 5 seconds to finally login. My tcpdump -vv weren't producing much output (not good) and my pings to and from that host were normal and almost identical to other hosts on my subnet that had no ssh login delay issues. Log files also showed nothing alarming. My hosts file was missing this at the very end of the file; ::1 localhost6.localdoamin6 localhost6 I chose to disable ipv6 during install but no big deal that I needed that line. My question is; What tools could I have used to trouble shoot this as packet sniffers on the switch port or the host didn't seem to do the trick, nor did log file analysis? I just had a hunch and decided to look at my hosts file, not the most effective way to fix issues but one I've used several times. Thanks in advance, - aurf

Hi folks, after several updates and a reboot I get errors concerning gconfd wanting to create a directory "/usr/share/tomcat5/.gconfd" which fails and other errors - when I start Tomcat5. Why is gconfd (suddenly) needed/activated if Tomcat5 is started? Can I disable that - and how? Dirk

Hello, I am just starting work on a project that is going to require a recent (ie version 4 or 5) rsyslog. The distro has 2.0. KB - I think you have a 3.x kicking about, but it's not on cko - any idea how much work it would be to adapt your spec to version 4 or 5? Rawhide seems to have a 4.x package, so I could start from there if there's no other options available. Anyone else using a modern / recent syslog? What are you using and where from? S.

Bind data directory borked on update from 5.3 to 5.4

I updated my secondary DNS server from 5.3 to 5.4 today. After the update, named would not start. A bit of investigation found that all of the files in /var/named/chroot/var/named/data had been turned into links to themselves! Fortunately, since this is a secondary DNS, all I had to do was delete the files, replace the root hints file and let everything else copy back over from the master. If this had been the master, I would have had to restore from backups. Has anyone else seen this problem? -- Bowie

Recent openvz kernels unstable?

Has anyone else running heavily loaded openvz boxes noticed strange behavior with the latest kernels? Ever since updating to the latest *.164* kernels, we have mysterious machine lock ups. Sometime there will be an oops message, other times there will be none. The oops messages aren't the same when we manage to get one. Sometimes a machine will just drop off network without even a blip on the serial console. I still have to try to get a memory dump from one of the machines to see if I can find anything there, but I'm curious if anyone else has run into the same issues.

Ran into a confusing situation today. When I mount an xfs filesystem on a server running centos 5.4 x86_64 with kernel 2.6.18-164.9.1.el5, the barrier/nobarrier mount option as displayed in /proc/mounts is always set to "nobarrier" Here's an example: [root@host ~]# mount -o nobarrier /dev/vg1/homexfs /mnt [root@host ~]# grep xfs /proc/mounts /dev/vg1/homexfs /mnt xfs rw,attr2,nobarrier,noquota 0 0 [root@host ~]# mount | grep xfs /dev/mapper/vg1-homexfs on /mnt type xfs (rw,nobarrier) [root@host ~]# mount -o barrier /dev/vg1/homexfs /mnt [root@host ~]# grep xfs /proc/mounts /dev/vg1/homexfs /mnt xfs rw,attr2,nobarrier,noquota 0 0 [root@host ~]# mount | grep xfs /dev/mapper/vg1-homexfs on /mnt type xfs (rw,barrier) Can anyone else confirm this behavior? I don't understand why we need to import the Root-Cert in PEM format? $ keytool -import -trustcacerts -file rootcert.pem -keystore myserver.keystore -alias root The Root-Cert is in web browser, why there is a must to import in keystore? PAM and GNOME keyring

Hi everybody, I have a CentOS 5.4 server I need to se-up as Subversion server. On the server GNOME keyring has been installed and the integration with Subversion works fine: I'm asked for the keyring password the first time and that's it. I am now trying to set it up so that after login the default keyring is unlocked. This way I won't be asked for the keyring password ever. I have followed the instructions found at http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Tools/NetworkManager#Gnome-specific_informati… but it doesn't work. I have rebooted the server few times with no avail. I have checked that my password and the keyring password are the same. Every time I run a Subversion command I'm prompted for the keyring password. Can anyone help me? Xorg without xorg.conf (a bit OT)

I like to try out other distributions of Linux. Today I took a look at Mint Linux 8 and Fedora 12. I installed and updated each on a small partition -- actual physical install, not virtual machines. Both worked great at 1280x1024 (their defaults) but neither would let me use 1024x768 resolution. Both came with newer versions of Xorg, neither of which build an xorg.conf file. Mint gave me three settings, 1280x1024, 640x480 and something like 700x400(?). Fedora gave me the choice of 1024x768, but when I tried to use it, it just went black until timing out. When I downloaded and ran system-config-display, it built an xorg.conf file, which I modified to 1024x768 (by removing the 1280x1024 selection). When I tried rebooting, it locked up. (I have an Intel 865G video chip, BTW.) So, what is it about the newer versions of Xorg that doesn't like 1024x758 resolution? At least not on an Intel Graphics chip? Just weird. And I'm curious as to how Xorg determines its monitor resolution choices when there is no xorg.conf file. Is there a good tutorial on this subject available? Frustrating situation -- and I'm still nervous that Red Hat 6 is going to end up with the same issue -- if this is an Xorg problem with Intel it seems reasonable to assume that they will inherit it. -- RonB -- Using CentOS 5.4

Have multipple raids working in a encrypted filesystem in CentOS 5.4 (i386): script file, crypt.sh modprobe cryptoloop losetup -e aes /dev/loop0 /dev/md0 (inserting password here) then run mount -t ext3 /dev/loop0 /mnt/raid5 Have been using this in CentOS for a long time and works like a charm. 2. Raids is now moved to another server with ubuntu server 9.10 (64bit) Raid is detected fine and working. Do the same thing again and get: sudo modprobe cryptoloop (ok) sudo losetup -e aes /dev/loop0 /dev/md0 (ok) sudo mount -t ext3 /dev/loop0 /mnt/raid5 (failes with the following msg) mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/loop0, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so ubuntu: cat /proc/crypto |grep aes name : ecb(aes) driver : ecb(aes-asm) name : cbc(aes) driver : cbc(aes-asm) name : cbc(aes) driver : cbc(aes-asm) name : aes driver : aes-asm module : aes_x86_64 name : aes driver : aes-generic module : aes_generic Is there compatible issues here? perl updates always break perl programs, how to fix?

I realize this is my fault because once upon a time I installed a package using CPAN and probably other admins on the system have as well but now whenever I update perl I have to jump through hoops to get perl applications to work again (usually updating Scalar::Util and another package with CPAN). I would love to figure out how to fix this so it's not such a headache to keep up to date with perl, but I can't figure out how. I tried moving my /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl directory out of the way and installing perl-Scar-Util using yum but it doesn't let me because the perl-5.8.8 rpm owns the man file for that. I'm not sure why the default Scalar-Util (isn't it built in to the base install of perl on CentOS) doesn't work in the first place? Also I do add perl packages via the dag/rpmforge repo, not sure if that messes up the perl updates too. Sorry I realize this could also be classified as a perl question -- but I'm hopeful other centos admins found a way to get their centos back into compliance with the yum updates. Like i have understood, xen could be also present and support on RHEL6 and in this case, it could be supported until the cycle of RHEL 6. But is it preferable to migrate all your xen to kvm in a near furtur. Kvm is a REDHAT project and REDHAT want to put all ressources to improve and develop KVM instead of xen. routing multiple network cards on a single subnet

I have dealt with machines that have multiple network cards in them before, but never when they were on the same subnet so this issue has never come up before. My problem is that I can only access one IP address at a time. I started out using dhcp and found that if I went through the dhcp song-and-dance then that address became active and the other one was disabled, and vice versa. On our local tech mailing list, a couple of the guys advised me that this is due to a routing issue and, after a bit of googling around I now understand why that is. However, I have so far been unable to fix it. I got rid of dhcp and set up static addresses using system-config-network. This machine has three network cards in it, eth0 is 192.168.1.5 and I use that one to ssh into the box from this computer. (I really don't want to lose my ability to connect to eth0; this machine runs headless on a shelf about 7 feet above the floor and it would be quite an undertaking to dismantle it and bring it down to hook a monitor and keyboard to it again.) The solution to this problem appears to be easier to describe than to implement, at least for me. I need to have each network card reply back on the same interface that it received a request from. eth1 is 24.89.92.178 eth2 is 24.89.92.180 The gateway for both of these is 24.89.92.1 The suggestion that I got was to add two entries to the end of /etc/iproute2/rt_tables (which I did with a text editor) and run a series of ip route commands which set up a custom routing table but I'm missing something because while the custom routing tables appear to be getting set up, it's still not working. I have studied the suggested routing commands and I think I understand what they are doing and what is supposed to be happening. But something is still missing because it's not working. Here is what I did and what the results are. If I have missed anything let me know; this covers what I think is the relevant information as I currently understand it. I would sincerely appreciate any further advice regarding this situation. I really would like to know what I am doing wrong and also why (in the interest of learning something from this situation). error rsyncing large file

Trying to rsync a rather large file from a windows server to a centos server and all but this is working fine. As it's a 20 gig file I am trying to send the diff of with a -c, I suspect over the low bandwidth this presents an issue. I also stage this file locally on another centos server and could calc the diff and create a patch and send that, comparing checksums etc... A quick look at bsdiff and bspatch and the mem requirements on my 20 gig file make that solution rather not acceptable. Anyone know a better solution to accomplish this? Thanks! jlc

How to force iscsi to see the new LUN size

Hi, I increased the size of one of the LUNs and on CentOS 5.4 if I restart iscsi (`service iscsi restart`) I'll see the the new size but this will disconnect all other LUNs. I'm hoping that there is isciadm or some other command that will force iscsi to rediscover the LUNs but I can't seem to be able to come up with one. Resize2fs says that there is nothing to be done. I'm not using LVM. Any ideas? Thanks Peter

Good afternoon all, I have a Broadcom BCM5823KPB-5 PCI crypto card that I would like to use on a 2.6.18-164.10.1.el5xen i686 i386 release do assist with crypto operations. Does anyone know if there are drivers for this device? It was originally used in a Cisco Pix to assist with crypto functions under part number 74-3176-01 vac+. The other markings on the board are "CT0527 10" & "747486 M". TIA. -W

Moving the system from 5.3 to 5.4

Hello, I built a system based on centos 5.3, now i'm planing to move to 5.4. To do it I rebuilt all rpms making some changes. When I use a common centos 5.3, it automatically detects that 5.4 is available and move update for it when i run yum update. How does this work? How the system detects new version and update for it? I thought centos-release rpm just update repo for it, but I saw this is not the case. Could someone gimme some light? Thanks -- Renato Botelho

iptables default configuration

Hi, I would like to get some inputs on how to configure iptables. I have referred to CentOS wiki http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Network/IPTables and it has been very helpful. I have configured iptables with the help of this tutorial, but I haven't understood few things about default firewall config. - What does 'RH-Firewall-1-INPUT' chain means? This also seems to be a predefined chain, although not mentioned in wiki. - The wiki page approach is to flush existing rules and then add required rules to iptables. Is it possible to add/append required rules without flushing existing set of rules? Not sure, but I think this is where 'RH-Firewall-1-INPUT' chain comes into picture (user defined rules). Any explanation or resource link on this would be really helpful. Thanks, CS.

UID GID Problems.....

Hoping someone can help me fix something that I apparently messed up, i have the issue that when I untar a file as root the uid and gid that get set are not roots'. I had change a user uid and gid to 1000 via usermo -u etc.... but somehow it appears to have effected the root user. When I touch files as root the correct uid and gid are root, however when untaring an archive the directory and files are uid and gid =1000. Hope someone can point me in the right direction....oh yea, running centos 5.4, and when I run the command id = uid=0, gid=0, etc,,,,all appear to be right for root....Thanks in advance.

SSH slow

Hi All, All of my systems are running 5.4 x64. The are all AMD x64 processors with at least 2gb of RAM in each. I am running SSH on a non standard port. When I SSH into ANY of my systems, I get prompted for my password right away, but after entering, it takes 30+ seconds to get logged in and get a prompt so I can work. I dont quite know what to look for here Does anyone have thoughts? -Jason

CentOS 5 and webex wrf files?

Anyone have experience playing back a Webex wrf file on their CentOS 5.x system? I have a newly installed CentOS 5.4 i386 system and want to play such a file, but the Webex.com web site says it only supports Windows and MacOS for playback. Any other options next to creating a VM of Windows (I'm not buying a Mac for this). Thanks. Scott

unison versus rsync

Anyone got any actual comparisons between unison and rsync specifically related to the performance of synchronization of large data sets over slow links? I have a huge tree to start replication of Friday and know that if I sync the root paths it will take ages and with the lack of any overall state of progress this won't be optimal as its likely to fail for whatever reason before it can finish. Initially I just thought I would break it down to several smaller jobs but that becomes a burden to maintain... We use bacula internally but sending the diffs would be cumbersome as the individual files would be rather large... Thanks! jlc

Hi guys, Recently I've done a bad bad thing, buying a laptop with an ATI card. The card itself is supposed to be quite decent performance wise, but the ATI drivers still suck a lot. I haven't yet tried booting Centos on this laptop, but I used a Fedora 12 LiveCD. Fedora displays things nicely, but no 3D accel (I like to play OpenArena/Tremulous every now and then). After some serious googling I learned that I cannot even install ATI Catalyst driver on Fedora, because of too new Xorg. Do you have any success stories with running Centos and have 3D acceleration on this video card? lspci reports: 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RS780M/RS780MN [Radeon HD 3200 Graphics] 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M92 [MobilityRadeon HD 4500 Series] Yes, 2 gpus. Dual Gateways, Dual IPs on the same net

If I configure a second virtual ip address on a device, will it always send packets to the gateway configured, or to it's primary gateway. For example, two ISPs configured, two firewalls configured, gateway IP's 192.168.1.1 and .2. Internal server has IP 192.168.1.100 with gateway .1. Incoming packets that have been forwarded from outside, (for instance an SSH session), will be returned to .1 for routing back to the internet. If a virtual adapter is configured with ip 192.168.1.101 and a gateway of .2 will traffic that is destined to 101, always be returned .2???

Hi All, I have a CentOS 5.4 web server. I have some stuff that runs on 443. When I hit https://<the site> The user gets a warning saying that site identity could not be verified and the user can add an exception if they want. How do I stop this from happing? Do I need to buy an SSL cert? Aren't these really expensive per server and I have 5 servers I would need to do this too. Can anyone provide advice? -Jason

raid1 creation :: not large enough to join array

I have 2 identical hdd (1002FBYS) with the same firmware, etc .. really identical! when i try to add the second hdd to this raid1 array i have the message that /dev/sdb is not large enough to join array!! on the first hdd i have 100 mb unpartitioned at the end of disk (as i understood that mdadm put there some info...) Anyone, any idea what can be wrong? i already done this procees several times and this is first time i encounter this and i have no idea what can be the problem .. Thanks! Adrian

Problems loading drbd after upgrade

Hi, I've upgrade the kernel to the latest version (C5) and after the update the drbd is not being loaded at reboot time. My previous running kernel was 2.6.18-164.el5. Now as far as I see the php script is not further running with the correct user: but the suexec is startet with correct uid and gid! Any help? Suggestions? Helmut

quotacheck question

i want to implement disk quota on my /home filesystem (it is going to be a mail server) so i read tha appropriate how to's edited limits for the users and everything is fine but then for quota meintenance i stuck into quotacheck the man page says quotacheck should be run each time the system boots and mounts non- valid filesystems. This is most likely to happen after a system crash. AND It is also unwise to run quotacheck on a live filesystem as actual usage may change during the scan. To prevent this, quotacheck tries to remount the filesystem read-only before starting the scan. After the scan is done it remounts the filesystem read-write. but the 7.2.3 paragraph (Managing disk quotas) of centos 5 deployment guide ...... However, quotacheck can be run on a regular basis, even if the system has not crashed. Running the following command periodically keeps the quotas more accurate ....... i have looked also on the web and some suggest to run quotacheck only at boot time and others to run quotacheck regularly but i ahve not found a clear answer i wonder what are the comments of centos community on hte subject

I went to do an update a bit ago (10:30 or 10:45 EST), and first, it got to rhel-i386-server-5/filelists | 14 MB 02:23 and was running at 2Kb/sec to 4Kb/sec, then, when I killed it and restarted it about 20 min later, it went at about 28Kb/sec, then died, reporting: Error: failed to retrieve repodata/filelists.xml.gz from rhel-i386-server-5 error was [Errno -1] Metadata file does not match checksum This makes me *very* nervous. If you have any opportunity to change things, I'd get some larger drives and use raid1 or 0+1. If you want offsite copies, a workable approach in the 2TB scale is to make a 3-member raid1 where you periodically swap the 3rd drive (in an internal or external swappable sata enclosure). If you don't need that, a 4 drive 0+1 raid of 1.5 TB drives would give you 3TB and better performance. Hi, we want to upgrade our infrastructure and are considering renting two different types of server by a provider: - A: one is with 80 GB SSD (and 12 GB memory) http://www.ovh.co.uk/products/eg_ssd.xml - B: the other with 750 GB SATA2 (and 8 GB memory). http://www.ovh.co.uk/products/eg_best_of.xml The target infrastructure will host: - a few public web sites (PHP / MySQL) - a development infrastructure (subversion, bugzilla, automated builds) This will use KVM virtualization with Cent OS 5.4 hosts and guests. On the long run we will probably rent quite a few of type B depending on our needs of space and computing power. My question is whether it is worth using one of type A (with SSD drives) in order to host the critical data such as the web sites and the subversion repository (critical in the sense that these services should be fast, always available, and the related data as safe as possible). This critical server will be more read oriented than write. We will probably use a hardware RAID 1 with battery backed unit on it. My understanding is that SSD are much much faster. Is it really true in the real world? Are SSD drives also safer? (that is, less likely to crash under load) Or to the contrary? I have read/heard conflicting opinions so far and I'll be happy to hear opinions/experiences on SSD drives in a server settings from people on the list. More general comments about our plans are always welcome of course! [story] Thank goodness for links and caching DNS

Right in the middle of doing something important on my Ubuntu box, the web quit working. However, I could get to sites in my /etc/hosts file. Sure enough, all three of my ISPs nameservers were down. I'm not a DNS guy, but on my CentOS boxes I always installed a caching DNS out of the box since it was part of the obvious install options. So I set the DNS to one in my Ubuntu box, and of course the port was closed. So I ssh'd on in, opened 53 in the firewall, and the port was still closed. Tried running Firefox from the CentOS box via X forwarding over ssh but oddly, that seemed to lauch local Ubuntu firefox which didn't work. All of my CentOS boxes are headless, so all my boxes with working nameserver resolution thus only had text internet, which I haven't used in years. locate named.conf only showed some file in dbus that I knew wasn't right, but I was able to use links and find what I needed on google, the caching nameserver conf file has a slightly different filename than standard bind named.conf. I followed the warning, installed the system config utility for modifying it, but damn - for someone who doesn't know bind, that tool is scary looking, intimidating, I was afraid I was going to break my working caching nameserver if I messed around in it. So I backed up the file and hand edited it to add the IP to listen on, restarted bind, and am back in business. This is the second time in the last 6 months that all three of my ISP's nameservers have gone down, I wonder if they really are the same physical box, maybe even same network interface. What's the point of them having three if they all go down at same time? Ah well, I don't need them anymore for that. Thankfully the caching nameservers were already installed on my CentOS boxes, two of them now listens on their external interface, never again will I use my ISPs nameserver.

High load since passing from rhas3 to centos4.8

We are migrating HP servers from RHAS3 to centos 4.8. Since, the load average is reaching really high values. Under usage we see loads of 15-20 instead of the 0.5-1.5 we were used to. I searched a lot for information on such an issue. Iostat, vmstat, top, ps. But I don't get significant hint. Cpu usage remains low, IO wait remains low, no disks are lagging, no swap usage. Are there some tool / other way to diagnose why the load average is high? Like which processes are waiting, where they are stuck. Are there calls to drivers or system process that are slow? Thanks

NetworkManager won't save wireless keys

Hi all; I'm running KDE 3.5 on CentOS 5.4 I have wireless working however every time I boot I have to enter the wireless key. Anyone know how to get NetworkManager to save the keys? I've tried going to the 'edit connections' and adding the key there as well with no luck. Thanks in advance

Bonding modes

I have a bonded interface running in mode 1 which is active/passive and no issue with this. I need to change it to mode 0 for active/active setup. Does mode 0 is dependent on the switches configuration? My setup is: 2 links from bonded interface is connected to different switches. When I change to mode0 from mode1 , bond0 is not coming up. These are the steps I performed 1) changed to options bond0 mode=0 miimon=100 from options bond0 mode=0 miimon=100 2) modprobe bonding 3) service network restart Thanks ! Paras.

Problem with checkinstall

I installed checkinstall 1.6.2 on CentOS 5.4 VM (VMWare Server on WinXP). After getting the dependencies installed it compiled with no errors. But when I run it in its own source directory, I keep getting an error that I can't track down. The message is: install: cannot change ownership of '/usr/local/lib/installwatch.so': No such file or directory. But not only does the file exist, it has the correct permissions and creation time. I am running this as root. I did change the permissions on both make and install to 0755, but that did not help. The command line is: checkinstall -R --install=no Any suggestions? Between compression and pooling, I get about 10x the raw data being archived with backuppc - it beats juggling tapes and you can let the users access the backups of their own machine through a web interface. There are some down sides to plan around though: the compression takes some CPU and is slower than a stock rsync run, and the pooling is done with hardlinks which forces the archive to be on a single filesystem and makes it hard to duplicate for offsite copies. There's a big write performance hit from raid5 (software or not). It may not be enough to be a showstopper but I wouldn't recommend it. Can you reconfigure to a 0+1 or some other type that has better performance without losing too much space? The archive does have to be on a single filesystem, though, and if you use the epel RPM it makes things easier if you mount the volume at /var/lib/BackupPC before the install.
