Centos 8 hardware compatibility testing?

With Centos 7 and earlier I've been using the Live CD image to test new hardware (laptops etc) for compatibility. That way I can get a desktop up and try the sound and the networking and whatnot without affecting what is already installed on the machine, and then if everything looks good I can just run the installer right from the Live CD image. There's no Live CD image for Centos 8, so what would be a good way to accomplish the task of testing new hardware with Centos 8 before attempting to install the operating system? -- MELVILLE THEATRE ~ Real D 3D Digital Cinema ~ www.melvilletheatre.com

Stream not installing centos-release-stream

It looks like anaconda isn't installing centos-release-stream when you install CentOS 8 Stream. I just did a minimal install through PXE and it pulled everything from the 8-stream repository and installed the stream versions, but didn't install centos-release-stream. (Below is the output of yum list \*release\* immediately after install.) This means that it will not get updates from stream. C8 regression / tmp on tmpfs

Does someone have a working tmp on tmpfs via systemctl enable tmp.mount under CentOS8/RHEL8? This seems to work straight in EL7 ... # LANG=C systemctl enable tmp.mount The unit files have no installation config (WantedBy, RequiredBy, Also, Alias settings in the [Install] section, and DefaultInstance for template units). This means they are not meant to be enabled using systemctl. Possible reasons for having this kind of units are: 1) A unit may be statically enabled by being symlinked from another unit's .wants/ or .requires/ directory. 2) A unit's purpose may be to act as a helper for some other unit which has a requirement dependency on it. 3) A unit may be started when needed via activation (socket, path, timer, D-Bus, udev, scripted systemctl call, ...). 4) In case of template units, the unit is meant to be enabled with some instance name specified. -- Leon

Migrating users to new server

An age-old problem and there are some simple awk/grep-based scripts to handle the easy cases. Are there any more sophisticated tools that can extract all non-system users and groups and then merge the result into the password/group/shadow/gshadow files of a new server? I don't need home directories or mbox inboxes created because I'll rsync those over once I've created the users. Tricky problems include merging entries for existing users and groups, and renumbering if one is moving from a 500-based system to a 1000-based system. Failure to install boot loader on Dell PowerEdge R720xd

What command does the installer use to install the boot loader? I sucessfully installed CentOS 8 to the server, with /usr on a mirrored SSD pair on the RAID controller and /boot on the internal SD card (where Dell wants one to boot from). Before rebooting, I inspected the installation at /mnt/sysimage and the disk usage looked reasonable. I saw a grub directory in /boot but no second stage boot loader nor any config files for it. At the end of the process, I got an error message that the installer failed to install the boot loader and the resulting system wouldn't boot. It didn't. There were no details useful for diagnosis. So now I'm about to boot the installer DVD into rescue mode to manually install the boot loader and see the real error message. So what command do I issue?

how to reinit an own repo after adding files?

When changing the content and rebuilding the repo new packages are not found. My question: What is the right way to reinit a repo complete? Manual partitioning and LVM

I can't seem to figure out how to partition for install. I've tried both CentOS 8 and 7.7 netinstalls. I've got 3 disks: sda (big hardware RAID array), sdb (SSD), and sdc (internal SD card for booting). I want to put /boot on sdc, /usr on sdb, and / on sda. I don't care what format is used on sdb and sdc, whatever will let it boot. I want LVM on sda so that I can use snapshotting for backups. I can pre-format sdb1 and sdc1 as ext4 usinga gparted live DVD. If I select manual partitioning, I can then label and assign those two to /usr and /boot. I can see sda in the drives available on the first detination screen but but I don't see it in the manual partitioning screen. So I don't see how to partition and format it as an LVM volume that I can mount to /.

Hi all, I have installed a CentOS-8 server to accomplish some tests using kvm guests … All these guests are centos8 also. Custom LiveCD images with CentOS8

Is it at this moment possible to build custom LiveCD images? Are they all necessary tools available in CentOS8? I have never done this and wonder if it is still possible for C8. Hello, can any install more then one KVM Client with UEFI ?? On my system it is not possible; I have total crash on the system, when I install a client with UEFI after Install one UEFI System, it is only possible to install a KVM client without UEFI this is working?? I found so match broken things, so I mean the best situation is to go back to 7.7 :-(. CentOS 8 Docker container is missing dnf-plugin-ovl

Hi everyone, I've been running some tests on Travis CI with CentOS 7 and CentOS 8 based Docker containers and having issues with the CentOS 8 ones. With the centos:8 image, the RPM database eventually gets corrupted due to the default overlay2 storage driver used by Docker. This issue doesn't show with the centos:7 container. It already comes with the "fastestmirror" and "ovl" plugins installed. The "ovl" plugin is a workaround to avoid this corruption. See the bottom of https://docs.docker.com/storage/storagedriver/overlayfs-driver/ for more details. Fedora 29 and 30 already have an equivalent "dnf-plugin-ovl" package ( https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/dnf-plugin-ovl) However, I couldn't find it for RHEL8 or CentOS 8. I can use the "touch" workaround for now. But are there plans to bring this plugin to CentOS 8 and make it part of the CentOS 8 image, just like on CentOS 7? Or is there some other way to achieve the same with dnf? What is /etc/subuid ?

Dear Experts, Could someone enlighten me about the following file: /etc/subuid ? This file appears to be owned by "setup" package. This is CentOS 7 system, and until now these files if existed were never changed. Today I have added user quite routine way, by doing /usr/sbin/groupadd -g 4500 [username] /usr/sbin/useradd -g [username] -u 4500 -c "User Name, email@domain" [username] And the file /etc/subuid changed and user was added into it: [username]:100000:65536 Nothing like that was happening before. This is first time I create account after update done on Oct 3, 2019. I checked several CentOS 7 machines, basically doing this: # grep subuid /usr/sbin/useradd Binary file /usr/sbin/useradd matches And CentOS 7 machines indeed may have that file name in the useradd binary. None of CentOS 6 machines has that. I tried to do FreeBSD-ism: man /etc/subuid came empty, and realized that I'm doing FreeBSD-ism. I tried to do search on the web (did not "google", I use duckduckgo... so I "did search"), and came pretty much empty. Is it just me, or indeed something in CentOS 7 indeed changed? And what is it? Another question on the same note: how do we find out what the file is about and is used for in Linux, apart from searching on the web. (When there are surprises like the one I had today, one does like to know what this particular file is used for). Thanks in advance for your answers. Crashed a CentOS 8 installation.

Hi, Note: Please do this on a test VM. My issue: I took the output of the following command $ yum list installed | xargs -n3 | column -t | tail -n +3 |cut -d' ' -f1 > packages.list from a CentOS 7.7 Installation. and did $ dnf install $(cat packages.list) --setopt=strict=0 on Freshly installed Minimal CentOS 8 VM. When I reboot I get Failed to switch root: Specified switch root path /sysroot does not seem to be an OS tree. os-release file is missing. Hiding a grub menuentry?

Does anyone know if it is possible to 'hide' a grub menuentry with CentOS 7 ? I have a custom menuentry that I don't want to be seen on the grub screen - but it needs to be selectable as the entry to boot via 'grub2-reboot' I've scanned the grub2 documentation - but I can't find anything obvious - so I'm guessing it can't be done - unless someone knows otherwise ? DSA key not accepted on CentOS even after enabling

Hello, I have some users that connect to a server with their DSA key that is of type ssh-dss. I'm migrating (installing as new) the server where they connect to CentOS 8 + updates. easy way to stop old ssl's

HI all, When CentOS 7 was created things like SSLv2 TLSv1 TLSv1.1 etc... were all OK, but now they have fallen out of favor for various reasons. Updating to CentOS 7.7 does not automatically disable these types of items from apache - is there a script that is available that can be ran to bring a box up to current "accepted" levels ? Or is that an edit by hand, do it yourself on all your boxes or create your own script type of thing. Just checking if there is an easier way. Thanks, Jerry

Odd issue with 7.7.1908 updated with qemu-kvm-ev

So, I have a client that has an internal use application that needs an ancient version of libc5. That's not a typo; libc5. Before the server that ran it died about a year and a half ago (said server was an AMD K6-2/450 with a 6GB Western Digital Caviar drive that had been spinning nearly continuously for almost 20 years!) it was running on Red Hat Linux 5.2. The last version of CentOS that shipped with a libc5 was 2.1. So I set them up a KVM guest running CentOS 2.1, mainly because Red Hat 5.2 wouldn't recognize the network at all, using the e1000 network driver, and it ran well. Now, yes, there are no updates, but no it doesn't matter; it's an internal use application that has a very small footprint and very low risk. After the update on the host to 7.7.1908, the network stopped running. The host also has a CentOS 7 guest that is still working properly. If I change the 2.1 system to not automatically load the e1000 driver and console in and 'modprobe e1000' manually, it starts working again, for a while. Any ideas as to where to start looking? qemu-kvm-ev itself, or libvirt? I'm planning to start out with rollbacks to the previous versions of each to try to find where the issue starts.

Im new on Centos I recently installed Centos 8 and i have the following problem with my browser I cant play media on the browser. for example i cant play. https://twitter.com/Ffs_OMG/status/1183397555914366976 Or i cant listen shows or songs on mixcloud. for example https://www.mixcloud.com/parapolitika-parapolitika/%CE%B3%CE%B9%CF%89%CF%81… i get the message "Sorry - your browser is not supported. Please update your browser or install another such as Google Chrome. Mixcloud requires HTML5 audio with MP3 and MP4 support." I suspect that these 2 problems relate. Any ideas how to solve this problem? Thanks in advance!

CVE-2019-6470 - dhcpd6 bug in CentOS 8 not being fixed?

The CVE-2019-6470 bug in isc-dhcp for ipv6 causing the server to crash on a regular basis is marked as "will not fix" for RHEL 8 on Red Hat's web site [1]. It's already got a fix for RHEL/CentOS 7, and other distros (like Ubuntu and Fedora) have released fixes. Is anyone familiar with the issue, or know about a (reasonable) workaround? Or why Red Hat doesn't want to fix it? I tried to contact Red Hat support to get their reasoning, but as we only have self-support subscriptions with them, they were not particulary interested in talking to me. Hi All - I use qemu on my centOS 7.7 box that has software raid of 2- SSD disks. I installed an nVME drive in the computer also. I tried to insall CentOS8 on it (the physical /dev/nvme0n1 with the -hda /dev/nvme0n1 as the disk. The process started installing but is really "slow" - I was expecting with the nvme device it would be much quicker. Is there something I am missing how to get a faster disk access ? Thanks, Jerry

Goog morning to the list, for all users that are interested about KDE Plasma on Centos 8 you can install KDE from epel. All packages are get from epel-playground and epel-testing and some packages seems need to be build. I run "yum grouplist" and see kde workspace available. I tried to install it, reboot my machine and running startx a KDE plasma session was correctly launched. I think that this is a testing release and not ready for production but if you want play you can try. Maybe you will find bug and can help EPEL to fix. Best regards.

CentOS 8 Installation Not Recognizing Local Disk

I have an older Dell PowerEdge server with one hard drive, with CentOS 7 currently installed. I wanted to do a clean install of CentOS 8, but it doesn't pick up the hard drive. When I click on the destination to pick the hard drive it only shows the USB drive that I'm installing from. I checked for a RAID configuration on the server, but there is only one disk, and no RAID is configured. The disk is controlled by the PowerEdge Raid Controller (PERC), but when I disable that I lose the disk completely. I suspect that PERC is part of the problem, but a CentOS 7 install proceeds normally with PERC enabled. Do you know of a change from CentOS 7 to 8 that would cause this, or if there is a workaround? I've searched for several days and haven't found anything yet. Thank you! Hello im trying to play some videos with totem on CentOS 8. I get the following message in the command line. CentOS for musicians?

Hello, still searching but didn't find very precise answers yet, is there a computer-aided musical creation -oriented flavor of CentOS (like the Ubuntu Studio)? Or would it be about gathering stuff from different repos and setting up everything by hand? A repository that would provide low-latency kernel (realtime one?): I've found the CentOS-RT from the CERN + (1)). Specific tools (from Jack/qjackctl, carla, audacity .. to the DAW), I've found stuff on different repositories. On a CentOS7 box I could setup jackd, audacity/lmms (from the sources) and reaper (ardour from nux depo is way to old), I know what to use at end-user software but would like to find a CentOS variant/repo where software is recent (sometimes critical for audio devices). Mix/match C8 crypto policies

Is it possible to mix and match crypto policies using approved tools in CentOS 8? Our environment requires a LEGACY setting for OpenSSL so we can maintain connections with our LDAP servers (which we cannot update at this time), but I'd like especially the OpenSSH settings to use the DEFAULT policy (and maybe even FUTURE on a test host or two). I think it's possible to manually repoint the symbolic links in /etc/crypto-policies/back-ends to achieve that result, and I'll set up puppet rules if that's the only way to do so, but I'd prefer to use a more canonical approach if one exists. -- Paul Heinlein heinlein(a)madboa.com 45°38' N, 122°6' W

I did the dd of the ISO to a 16G USB device. the second partition is FAT so I can edit it - I want to make a custom menu entry. I edited the grub.cfg - but that did not work - my menu option does not show. Then I think I need to change BOOT.cfg and generate the grub.cfg - but I dont know in this case how to generate for the USB device. What command do I use for that ? Thanks, Jerry

Hi, I started playing with CentOS8 and I am trying to set default crypto policies for openssh server/client. In CentOS7 I followed the guide from https://infosec.mozilla.org/guidelines/openssh.html and set KexAlgorithms /Ciphers/MACs in sshd_config. In CentOS8 I can edit /usr/share/crypto-policies/$POLICY/opensshserver.txt for the sshd arguments, but editing openssh.txt or even changing default crypto policy to FIPS seems to not affect the client options (ssh -Q mac) Is the client supposed to be affected by these policies or they are only for the server? CentOS-8 QEMU guest won't bring virtio_net interface up.

Hi, I’m trying to PXE boot from qemu a CentOS-8 initrd, but despite I set rd.neednet=1, the virtio_net module is not loaded and the interface is not brought up. If I modprobe it by hand, it brings an eth0 interface. My initrd was created using dracut that includes network, qemu and qemu-net modules Qemu is started with EFI bios and vritio ethernet emulation Questions are: * Is it a known bug/ issue? * What Am I missing? * Lspci does see the Red Hat, Inc. Virtio network device, but nothing triggers the module load (virtio_net) * After doing modprobe virtio_net, the interface is named eth0 (it seems that it doesn’t follow the modern network device naming scheme) Before reporting a bug, I want to make sure that I’m not missing something. Keyboard backlight fails with recent kernels

I do not use my laptop often, normally my better half has possession and use of it. It is a late 2011 ASUS ROG G73S which performs very well. The keyboard backlight was an issue initially under CentOS6, but the kind folks at elrepo found the missing bits in a more recent kernel and created a package to add them to the older CentOS6 kernel. An upgrade to CentOS7 went without a hitch and the keyboard lighting has worked fine. Recently I sat infront of the machine and couldn't see the keys - no backlight. A number of reboots later I have found that the latest kernel that I have on the machine, that works okay is 3.10.0-862.14.4.el7.x86_64 3.10.0-957.21.2.el7 and 3.10.0-957.27.2.el7 both fail to load/activate the driver for the keyboard. Would someone with the requisite knowledge please advise what I need to do. Is this a case for using the CentOSplus kernel or do I need to find and load a driver or two? or do I need to request the elrepo folk to make a suitable package. Thanks Rob

Hi For years (long time) I had " net.ifnames=0 biosdevname=0 " and it worked as it should (6.X, 7.X) I never had any problems, until yesterday. I started upgrading my machines and I stopped after the first one showed issues and I will not update all the other ones until this is sorted. I have problems keeping the interfaces in order as I wanted them to be assigned to eth0, eth1 .. eth4 Every reboot the order of eth1, eth2 and eth3 change BUT eth0 stays. Now when I read this https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/7/ht… then I am doing the correct thing by adding the MAC as in so: DEVICE=eth0 IPADDR=... ... GATEWAY=... ONBOOT=yes BOOTPROTO=none USERCTL=no NOZEROCONF=true TYPE=Ethernet NM_CONTROLLED=no HWADDR=01:23:45:67:78:9a This works for eth0 but all the other ones the kernel complains /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup-eth: Device eth[1,2,3] has different MAC address than expected, ignoring NOTE: this worked until yesterday, I could reboot, update whatever it always came up in the same way and I also did not need to swap the network cables EVERY time ... Even without HWADDR/MAX adddress I have to swap the cables every time (eth[1,2,3]). Did something change in the kernel/networking/udev I am not aware of? What am I doing wrong all over sudden? Hi, We have just upgraded to centos 8 at my lab, and are looking to install the kernel-rt. When we were on centos 7, we were tracking the repo at mirror.centos.org/centos-7/7/rt. However, there doesn't seem to be an rt directory for mirror.centos.org/centos-8/8. Is the realtime kernel housed in some other location for Centos 8? Thanks, Geoff

I did a "yum search libssh2-devel" it says no matches found. I did a "yum search libssh2" it says name matched and libssh2. Where or how do install the -devel package for C8 ? Thanks, Jerry

/boot partition too small

First off - let me say I am not an administrator. I need to know if there is an easy way to increase my /boot partition. When I installed CentOS 6 after running 5, it was my oversight not to increase the /boot size. it's too small and I can't do yum updates. if it's not easy to actually increase it, is it safe to take a chunk in my root filesystem (like /new.boot or something) and just mount it as /boot from now on so it uses the space or is that not a good idea? I am sure I could easily copy the rpms/kernel stuff over to it and then unmounts the real /boot and mount this new area as /boot. Can you administrators let me know what you think of all this? Packages not in CentOS 8

Hi all, I am using kickstart to install CentOS 8. Course I started with my kickstart from 7. Some packages are not found on the kickstart install (not present on the DVD I guess) like: ImageMagick sox libogg-devel libssh2-devel So again - I know they are not present on the DVD but they are present. What is the Kickstart trick to say %packages if not present - ATTEMPT to load later with yum ??? Is there such a thing for kickstart now with the new CentOS 8 structure ? Thanks, Jerry

Folks I find the Lynx browser does not appear in any of the repositories used during default installation of Centos 8 (x86_64). Is this program no longer supported? I didn't see a reference to it in the notsupported list. David

CentOS-6 cannot get kvm guest to start - network error

Need to start a virtual machine but missing nic is preventing this: I have need to recover some data from a guest on host which has been shutddown for some time. The host had one of it nic removed at some point. It is not likely to be replaced either. When I try to start the guest in question I get this: error: Failed to start domain inet09.harte-lyne.ca error: Cannot get interface MTU on 'br1': No such device I tried editing (virsh edit guest) to remove the interface: <interface type='bridge'> <mac address='52:54:00:35:a2:8a'/> <source bridge='br1'/> <model type='virtio'/> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x08' function='0x0'/> </interface> I saved the changes and tried to start the guest. but I got the same error. Centos 8: Multiple bugs with email/calendar

Hi there! I recently installed centos 8 on my laptop. I have the following problems 1. I tried the use the default evolution 3.28. The problem with 3.28 is that when i try to create an event i get the error "Failed to create an event in the calendar “CalDAV : Calendar”" "Cannot create calendar object: Failed to put data: HTTP error code 400 (Bad Request)" 2.I tried installing evolution from flatpak 3.34 Calendar works fine! BUT cant use my yubikey to read my encrypted emails :-( For some reason flatpak seems unable to work with smartcards. Had the same issue with keepassxc and yubikey 3.My third attempt was to use thunderbird from flatpak. I installed thunderbird through flatpak to see if i could overcome the flatpak yubikey problem. Thunderbird starts but then crushes with the following message "flatpak run org.mozilla.Thunderbird Gtk-Message: 09:15:00.372: Failed to load module "pk-gtk-module" Gtk-Message: 09:15:00.372: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module" Gtk-Message: 09:15:00.372: Failed to load module "pk-gtk-module" Gtk-Message: 09:15:00.372: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module" " I would prefer to use evolution than thunderbird. SquidGuard update in EPEL

Hi, The SquidGuard URL redirector has recently been updated in EPEL, and I'm a bit puzzled. I'm still using SquidGuard on a few local proxy servers running CentOS 7, because it's a nifty piece of software for filtering web traffic. The project's home page has remained unchanged for more than ten years: * http://www.squidguard.org/ It looks like the project has been dormant or dead for quite some time. I've been looking for a replacement for SquidGuard, but haven't been lucky yet. Anyone else has more information on SquidGuard, or suggestions for a replacement? VirtualBox extensions and the new kernel

I've been running Centos for different purposes in a VirtualBox environment for quite long now. But the newest kernels miss something so I can get the VirtualBox Extensions linked in. I have tested this with a CentOS 7 and Opensuse all found my Raid but with CentOS 8 this is broken? I found on start the Installation a Error from mdadm that ist all. Hi folks, I've noted that the CentOS 8 debuginfo repo lacks the repodata/ directory: http://debuginfo.centos.org/8/x86_64/ Did the maintainers forget to upload it? It does have all the .rpm files under the Packages/ sub-directory though: http://debuginfo.centos.org/8/x86_64/Packages/ And no repodata/ there either. Pidgin fails to connect google

I recently upgraded to Centos 7.7 and when I rebooted everything seemed to be OK except that pidgin failed to connect to gtalk with the error SSL Handshake Failed After trying several configuration changes with no luck I tried pidgin on a host that was still running Centos 7.6 and it had the same error. Based on that I'm concluding that it doesn't appear to have anything to do with Centos 7,7 but that the failure is coincidental. Does anyone know what the problem is and how to resolve it? CentOS 8 creates /boot with ext4

I just installed CentOS 8 in a VirtualBox VM, to explore it. Immediately, I noticed something strange. I insatlled it using a kickstart file, whose partitioning section is this: zerombr clearpart --all --initlabel reqpart --add-boot part pv.01 --ondisk=/dev/sda --size=1 --grow volgroup vg01 pv.01 logvol / --name=lv_root --vgname=vg01 --size=1 --grow bootloader --driveorder=sda On CentOS 7, this resulted in an XFS-formatted /boot filesystem. In CentOS 8, this created an EXT4-formatted /boot filesystem. I looked through RHEL 8's release notes and other documentation, but could not find any place that mentions this change. Does anyone know if this is deliberate, or a bug of some kind? Regards, Anand

LVM and thin snapshots

Hi there! Im new here. Im trying to install Centos 8 on my laptop. I also want to have a contingency plan in case something brakes. My first thoughts were to use LVM. The idea is that i would take multiple snapshots of the system during the day/week and will keep them for a short time. I read RHEL documentation about how lvm works and pretty much understand how to manage the above scenario with LVM snapshots and encryption. If i understood lvm snapshots will cause delay the system after multiple snapshots. The best way to avoid it is using thin snapshots. At rhel documentation it says that is possible for a non thin volume to get a thin snapshots. [Correct me if my above assumptions are wrong or if there is a better solution for my purpose.] So i created a group with 3 volumes groups and one thin pool. Im trying to take a snapshot and i get the message. "Cannot use writable LV as the external origin." I read somewhere that i should change it to read only and then take a snapshot. Although that would be a problem i just try it to see if it works. Then i got the message "Cannot use active LV for the external origin" Any ideas??? Thanks in advance Georgios

Hello, today I updated a CentOS 7.6 ppc64le machine to CentOS 7.7. After reboot to the new kernel (4.18.0-80.7.2.el7.ppc64le) dkms could not build the nvidia-module. Centos 7, netboot using initramfs.img

Hello, I am trying to boot a node using initramfs. (actually it is a little more complicated, I am booting the node using perceus and vnfs images). Anyway, when booting with a kernel and using initramfs.img, dracut is trying to to configure both Network NICs, the first one would be fine, but I don't want it to ven try to configure the 2nd one using dhcp. How can I stop dracut from trying to do that? thanks, Ron

For those who come across this thread, I've found the exact list of changed and dropped package between rhel:7 and rhel:8: https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/8/ht… Too bad that the "note" column is empty in the dropped package table. NO word about reason or possible alternatives. Also too bad that those drops were not advertised before release so developers could think about migrating there code. That would have helped me a lot if I had knew that docbook-utils-pdf would be dropped....I would have searched for an alternative long ago. Olivier. Hi, I need to port OSCAR Cluster and SystemImager softwares to centos8, but I miss a lot of package that seems to be built for centos-8. For example, I cant find docbook-utils and docbook-utls-pdf while I see them here: https://koji.mbox.centos.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=651 I’ve installed epel-release and elrepo-release and centos-release-stream. Do I miss something or is it a matter of time due to mirro syncs? I misse btrfs packages, perl-Tk packages, docbook packages and many more that I can find on https://koji.mbox.centos.org/koji/builds Where am I wrong? PS: I’m running CentOS-8 in docker (roboxes/centos8 wainting for official centos:8 container). USB of ISO image

Hi I did the dd iso to my USB. all is fine. I can mount the second partition (which is not iso 9660) and edit the grub.cfg file. Question is what do I run after that so my new menu option appears ? grub2-install /dev/sdd Is that the correct command to get grub to notice my new file ? Assuming sdd is the USB disk of course. USB thumb drive for CentOS 7.7 to install

I took the "everything" iso and did the dd command to my 16G thumb drive. I booted and entered my usual ks=http://xxx on the boot line. All good so far. It gets my kickstart file and installation begins. At some point it says Installing libreoffice-opensymbol-fonts (492/1948) Retrying download of 1:libreoffice-opensymbol-fonts-5.3.6.1-21.el7.norarch then after 10 retries it fails. I have verfied this file is on my USB disk, I have re-downloaded from different mirror, the Everything file, dd that to my USB disk, tried the re-install and still the error. I don't know what to try next. Jerry

I just skimmed through the deprecated, and there's a *lot*. But one hit me in the face: if you make a change to /etc/nsswitch.conf, you need to REBOOT THE SERVER? Ok, did this come from Redmond?* Oh, and I note virt-manager replaced by cockpit. Can someone pass along a little note: Sybase has had, for a bunch of years, a required program... called cockpit. I think they've got the name by priority.... * I thought that "your cursor has moved; please reboot Windows to have this change take effect was a joke... until, about 5-6 years ago, I found in trying to set up samba at home on Win 8 that if I changed the workgroup name... it required Windows to be rebooted.
