httpd with SNI

Hi! I am currently publishing some web services on a Centos 5.3 server on my office using the included apache httpd. They are available from the Internet, and they require validation (username/password). I would like to publish them all under https, so the passwords won't travel unencrypted, but then all my sites use the same certificate on apache httpd. The solution to this is using an httpd server that supports SNI: <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Server_Name_Indication> however, the httpd included in Centos does not have this feature. Question is: have anybody made httpd RPMs for CentOS supporting this feature? (according to the link, httpd supports this since 2.2.11) or maybe they can be requested on the CentOS Plus repositories? Odd SELinux messages during+after 5.3 upgrade (system_mail_t and postfix_postdrop_t access rpm_var_lib_t)

Hey guys, I've been getting some strange selinux messages after the 5.3 upgrade. It appears as though my mail system (postfix) is constantly trying to access the rpm database? Also, on a related note, is it normally best practices to 'setenforce 0' during a 5.x upgrade? Is it possible I've damaged something by leaving selinux enabled? Other than the spamassassin issue, the machine seems to be running ok..

Processes to disable

I was told by some more-experienced Cent users that there are a bunch of processes I should kill and get out of the startup folder. He said that Cent (even with a small install) has a bunch of processes that really aren't needed and just burn up processes. Which ones should I get rid of for just a webserver? MySQL server? There seems to be a lot of this needed lately. I suspect the issue is 5.2 -> 5.3 transition. Putting something like this in /etc/cron.daily/ when near a major update *might* make the transition times between point releases easier - #!/bin/bash RANGE=120 number=$RANDOM let "number %= $RANGE" delay=`/usr/bin/expr $number \* 60` sleep $delay /usr/bin/yum clean all > /dev/null 2>&1 /usr/bin/yum makecache > /dev/null 2>&1 -=- Point of the random delay is to not have lots of people hit all the servers at once.

Cannot play rmvb video files after burning to DVD

Hi, I am running CentOS 5.2. I tried to burn rmvb video files to DVD+R disk using Nautilus 2.16.2, the files were burned to the disk, but could not play it back with errors "Unkown file format". Possible bug?

I had some problems with apache, and there were so many, (caused by removing ispconfig) I decided to just remove and re-install. This is what happened when I tried to do so, both from remote and via console. I tried the DVD as well as yum, and got essentially the same thing. x86_64 server OOM problems after update to 5.3

Hello, Over the weekend, I upgraded one of my servers that runs mysql and pdns to 5.3. Previous to the update I have not had an issue form this server. But since, I have had mysql die multiple times from oom-killer. $ uname -a Linux rack2a 2.6.18-128.1.6.el5 #1 SMP Wed Apr 1 09:10:25 EDT 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Unfortunately, the server has been rebooted by others before I have been able to look at it while the problem is occurring. But I have found this in the logs: http://pastebin.centos.org/25553 Running sar -A: http://pastebin.centos.org/25556 Since the server was rebooted, the amount of swap is used is 0. How do I determine what process is/was chewing up the memory on this server? What should I be looking for to narrow this down? Thanks, Rick

What is the rule of thumb for reboots after updates... Certainly if I update from 5.2 to 5.3 I reboot. But if you update something like krb5 or pam does that require a reboot? Does the "fix" get automatically loaded and used or do you just do a reboot always? Thanks, Jerry

flash drive crashes machine

I just installed 5.3 on a tower box. When I plug in a usb flash drive, the machine crashes. I don't know how to diagnose the problem; I used gnome-system-log, and got this (watching it as I plugged it in): Apr 12 16:43:25 ga7zx kernel: usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2 Apr 12 16:43:25 ga7zx kernel: usb 1-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice Apr 12 16:43:27 ga7zx kernel: Initializing USB Mass Storage driver... As this point, the whole system becomes an ice cube - I can't even 3-finger salute to reboot. This happened a few times - same result. The board is a Gigabyte with an AMD Athlon 1.3 GHz cpu. Be aware that this drive works fine on 3 other boxes (with 5.3, Fedora 7, and Fedora 8). What could be wrong? What else should I check? How do I fix it?

Lost Acroread and flash plugin

Since the upgrade to AdobeReader_enu-9.1.0-1.i486.rpm and flash-plugin-10.0.22.87-release.i386.rpm, I have lost these in firefox. And Adobe Reader is not even on my Gnome Applications panel, I have to run it from a terminal window. Perhaps this has been covered, but how do I get these back?

filesystem rpm fails when /home is NFS mounted

Greetings CentOS Team- Since the list tends to be filled with "things don't work" and "why did you do it this way" and "complaint X", I thought I'd make a small deviation... I have a production system running on a Dell Poweredge 2650 server. I simply ran 'yum update' and rebooted with no problems. Everything continues to work as rock solid as before. So, I just wanted to say 'Thank You' to all those who put in such hard work into the CentOS project. The time between releases was not a problem here. If it was, I guess I'd just ask for a refund. :-) --Tim

Mock Questions

Just started using mock to rebuild some srpms. I have two I want to rebuild, problem is the first creates a dep that is required by the second. Is there an automated way to populate an additional repo/cache that mock would look at when building the second so I could queue both? Although I haven't tried, I presume I could drop the output from the first build into a dir, createrepo it and add that into the config file then build the next package but that's not very slick :) Thanks! jlc

Desktop update (32 bit) from 5.2 to 5.3 - fuse & ntfs-3g-mount

I just finished updating my Desktop, from CentOS 5.2 to 5.3 (32 bit). There were a lot of error messages (from sbin/ldconfig ?) about 2 files, in usr/lib/lib ending in .so "is not an ELF file - It has the wrong magic bytes at the start." There were also a lot of messages I believe have to do with SELinux. I'd read the Release Notes and thought I was OK, since this box is dual boot with M$ Windows XP, thinking I had the latest and greatest way to access the NTFS partition. However, when I rebooted the box, I saw warning messages: "modprobe fuse as root" and here is the result of that: [root@dell2400 ~]# modprobe fuse [root@dell2400 ~]# exit logout [lanny@dell2400 ~]$ and another message "ntfs-3g-mount fuse device is missing" As expected, after viewing the above messages; I can't see what's on the NTFS partition. I will read the Release Notes, again, in the morning. This box has GNOME and KDE on it and I was getting messages from PUP that 185 packages were available. The update, after updating glibc, was 268 packages. A big thank you, to everyone who spent so much of their valuable and very limited time working on this update!

Controlling log file sizes

My fetchmail and procmail log files are getting rather large, and there's really no reason to keep entries for ever. How do others handle this? Hello, I am trying to bond two ethernet cards together, they are listed as e1000e in the modprobe.conf file. However I keep getting this error: bonding: bond1: Error: dev_set_mac_address of dev eth2 failed! ALB mode requires that the base driver support setting the hw address also when the network device's interface is open Does anyone know how to correctly bond them in CentOs 5.2? Thanks!

installing updates in post kickstart

I can do a yum update in my post kickstart (which is what I am doing now actually). However, I want to save network time at installations. If I copy down the files from centos/5.3/updates/x86_64/RPMS and place them in a directory local on my network, can I just "rpm -U /mnt/directory/updates/x86_64/RPMS*" in my post section? Assuming I have nfs mounted the directory of course... Thanks, Jerry

question on compiling a driver early on at boot

I have noticed in /etc/inittab it calls /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit and in there ANYTHING with a .modules name in the /etc/sysconfig/modules directory is executed. Would this be a place to put a driver.modules file and recompile my driver BEFORE entering the next run level? Is that how this is done or is there a "prefered" way? My goal is to detect a kernel change after a yum update and recompile my driver before its needed. Thanks, Jerry

What is writing to my filesystem

I have a CentOS 5.2 box that every few months runs out of drivespace on its root filesystem. Last time I manually searched and deleted some big files, but don't remember what they were or what wrote to them. The applications I'm aware of on the box don't write to /. Is there a way to find the files that get written to the most, or grow the most over time? Doing a df gives me a snapshot, but it seems clunky to keep track of the diff on that output over time. I can then see what processes write to them. Any other ideas on how to investigate this are welcome. Thanks much. Jorge

Netinstall/kickstart issue

When booting the 5.3 i386 netinstall iso and performing a ks install, the server pauses for a very long time at the "Retrieving images/stage2.img" screen and the apache log where the http served tree exists shows it looking for: ...File does not exist: /var/www/html/CentOS/images/product.img ...File does not exist: /var/www/html/CentOS/disc1 multiple times until finally it gets going. This tree was a dvd copied to a directory being served out. Any ideas? Thanks! jlc

Segmentation fault using flash-plugin under CentOS 5.3

Hi all I have a very strange problem on my CentOS 5.3 laptop. I have installed latest firefox version from updates repository (3.0.7) with flash-plugin downloaded from adobe website. When i open firefox and i need to access to some web site with flash content, firefox crash with this message: /usr/lib/firefox-3.0.7/run-mozilla.sh: line 131: 9133 Segmentation fault "$prog" ${1+"$@"} Problem appears with versions 3.0.5 and 3.0.6 too. On the other hand, I have another laptop installed with RHEL 5.3 with firefox and flash-plugin (but this flash-plugin is installed from redhat repository - rhn) and this problem doesn't appears ... Has anyone built and installed truecrypt 6.1a on CentOS 5.3. When I build it it keeps failing here: Compiling EncryptionOptionsWizardPage.cpp Forms/EncryptionOptionsWizardPage.cpp: In member function ‘TrueCrypt::SharedPtr<TrueCrypt::EncryptionAlgorithm> TrueCrypt::EncryptionOptionsWizardPage::GetEncryptionAlgorithm() const’: Forms/EncryptionOptionsWizardPage.cpp:45: error: no matching function for call to ‘TrueCrypt::GraphicUserInterface::GetSelectedData(wxChoice* const&)’ I realize that this is likely a problem with truecrypt or me but I am interested to know if anyone here has built it. thanks -- Roger Wells, P.E. Anaconda kickstart laying out / randomly; ignoring --ondisk in part command

This problem occurred in both CentOS 5.2 and the new (awesome!) 5.3: I'm using a SuperMicro motherboard with a 6 port NVidia SATA controller on the motherboard and an 8 port SuperMicro Marvel controller in a slot. In my kickstart file, I have part raid.01 . --ondisk=sda . part raid.02 . --ondisk=sdb . part raid.03 . --ondisk=sdc . part raid.04 . --ondisk=sdd . . raid / --level=RAID1 --fstype=ext3 --device=md0 raid.01 raid.02 raid.03 raid.04 When I only have 4 drives installed in the system, this works fine. However, whenever I have more than 4 drives, it seems that anaconda ignores my --ondisk, and lays out /dev/md0 somewhat randomly across the drives. In particular, with 8 drives (sda..sdh), with the exact same kickstart file, it lays out /dev/md0 on drives sda, sdb, sdg and sdh. with 10 drives (sda..sdj), with the exact same kickstart file, it lays out /dev/md0 on drives sda, sdh, sdi, sdj. Does this make sense to anybody? Any help would be appreciated greatly. Thanks! Mark

Where's v5.3 source RPMs?

It seems that the mirrors are now all sync'd with the binary RPMs, but where are the source packages? The source RPMs are available for the few packages updated since the upstream 5.3 release, but the SRPMS for the release itself are missing. Example: http://mirror.centos.org/centos-5/5.3/os/ has directories containing the x86 and x86_64 binaries, but should also have a SRPMS directory.

Hi, I have an HP MSA 2000i as SAN (iSCSI) and since I'm starting with SANs, I'm seeking for advice. We are currently using HP Proliant 380 G5 + MSA 70 (SAS, direct-attached storage) for our production servers. At first, I thought I'd be using the SAN only for non-critical operations, like temporary additional storage for disk-based backups and snapshots, so I planned on using my existing network equipement to connect the SAN. Now I'd like to use it as storage for some blade servers that I want to use for virtualisation, so reliability is more important. I'd just like to evaluate the risk, to make sure I plan correctly. The SAN is a dual controller, dual-port, with a mix of RAID10 and RAID 50 arrays, so this is pretty solid. However, if I'm using only one switch to connect the initiators to this SAN, is it more risky than relying on the non-redundant RAID controllers that are in my HP servers? If it is recommended that I use multipathing, I guess that means 2 switches, additionnal nics but also another interconnect in the blade enclosure? If you need more information, just let me know :). Hi list, I have installed ClamAV from rpmforge and followed the excellent CentOS how to on installing amavisd - all has appeared to just work as advertised - thanks to all those involved in getting these instructions together. Come time to upgrade to 5.3 and ClamAV 0.95 (logwatch has been encouraging me to do the ClamAV upgrade for a week or two) All appeared to work fine. doing some googling, this seems to be about the most current/relevant thing I have found wrt to running freeipa server on CentOS http://howtoforge.com/how-to-build-rhel-ipa-rpms-for-centos-5 which I'm not totally adverse to doing but I have to ask, is there something packaged? (I've looked in 'testing' and in 'extras' and in epel) Has anyone followed some other instructions? I've updated two 5.2 systems without a hitch. But this third one is giving me some grief. See errors below. Googling for "Package does not match intended download" turns up a bunch of hits, but none of them (that I've seen) offers any working solution. kernel update doesn't update grub.conf

Just updated another machine to 5.3, everything fine, but grub.conf wasn't updated to the 128 kernel. It got a new modified date and the kernel is there, but the content wasn't changed. /etc/sysconfig/kernel contains the correct UPDATEDEFAULT=yes No errors in logs or during the update. No problem to boot with this kernel once added. This is the first time I ever see this happen. Any clues? the 5.2 loaders

Just looking around at log files and other places, I noticed today that there are still a lot of people installing and downloading 5.2. While a large number of installs would be since people already have the 5.2 media - thats fine, however, new downloads for 5.2 media today makes little sense ( to me ) - so whats going on here ? What can we do in order to better, faster, more visibly communicate the fact that 5.3 is the new target most people should be focusing on. I cam imagine there are people with specific needs and they would want the 5.2 media - but not a number so large, that its almost 80% of all the people downloading 5.3 these days. - KB

Update from 5.2 to 5.3 kernel not on mirror

I have tried today and at least twice last week since the release of 5.3 on Tuesday and got past the yum update glibc step just fine and have already done yum clean all several times and get through the first part of the yum update where you have to answer y and then it downloads all of the packages it seems but errors out and says that the kernel is not available on any mirrors. The system is running 32 Bit CentOS 5.2. It is a Pentium D system. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a fix in progress for it?

Correct configuration of kerbos was verified using kinit and klist. The samba configuration was verified by using "smbclient -k -L server". winbind was verified by using "wbinfo -g". The problem seems to be nsswitch accessing winbindd to get group information via the "getent group" command. I added winbind to the /etc/nsswitch.conf file like so: [root@nagios ~]# grep winbind /etc/nsswitch.conf passwd: files winbind shadow: files winbind group: files winbind I verified that all dynamic libraries are being accessed correctly by using "strace getent group". Good Morning, I want to update my CF-Microdrive for my router with CentOS (currently there is Slacky on it). I have attached the microdrive to my notebook using a pcmcia CF adapter. Within my CentOS installation the drive is detected correctly as ide_cf and all partitions are shown. But as the installer does not ship the necessary modules for a pcmcia ide installation i am searching for a way to either add these, or to prepare the device from my box within a chroot environment. CentOS automatically blocks port 80 out-of-the-box

Maybe I just haven't installed enough distros, but the times I've installed CentOS, I've had to remember that by default, iptables is blocking inbound port 80 requests. This leads me to believe that I have a non-OS firewall error because I can ping but not http request. Is there a particular reason for this? Or is it a fail on my end? I have heard rumours from some Red Hat employees that IPA will be integrated into Spacewalk this was about 1.5 months ago which would also make sense since Spacewalk is supposed to be their single point of management tool. Just looking or a recommendation of a 3rd party DNS provider (my client prefers free) with a web based control pannel (I doubt there is any other way). USB Thumb Drive Confusion

I am running CentOS 4.7. I have a USB flash (thumb) drive that has a bunch of files placed there by Windows. I plugged it into the CentOS machine, and when I listed the files under "/media/usb-name", there was nothing there. I created an empty file: touch blah and it showed up when I did list it. I noticed, checking dmesg that it was attached to /dev/sdb. So I did a quick fdisk /dev/sdb I saw that it had a partition of type of W95 FAT16 under /dev/sdb1. How come I'm not able to see files placed on that device by XP/Vista machines when I plug it into the CentOS 4.7 machine, but I'm able to create a file on it, and list it? I did double-check and plugged that drive into my XP workstation and sure enough I was able to see all the files. === Al

Install CentOS directly from usb drive?

Hello: I followed the instructions here: http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/5.2/Installation_Guide/ch02s04s01.html to put isolinux on a usb drive. When I boot from the usb drive, the installer comes up and I can do a network install. I have to say that is very impressive! But, since I have a 4GB usb drive, I am thinking I can load the rest of the installation onto the usb drive so I do not have to use a network install. I searched the Internet but could not find any instructions on doing that. Can someone point me in the right direction? I just updated kernel manually last evening: that is, directly using rpm and it did update the grub.conf. Well, you can always manually edit the grub.conf file, right? BTW: I managed to install 5.3 on the very first generation MAC PRO (xeon 2.66, XT1900) last weekend with old kernel: I took a detour in order to install it directly from CD iso. The system Hung several times and the DVD rom was NOT recognized. However, after updated to the newest kernel last evening, the DVD ram recognized and it did NOT hang any more: at least for about 6 hours. Cheers! contradictory netfilter default policy

I'm curious why CentOS contradicts its own (or, actually RH's) netfilter default policy. On http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Network/IPTables , at the end of section 1, it's stated that (generally) the default policy for INPUT is to DROP. So, why is it set to ACCEPT? Btw, Fedora is also this way.

vsFTPd and hidden files - standards compliant?

Hi Folks, I recently received a complaint regarding the vsFTP server I'm running on a CentOS 4.x box. The complaint was that it is improperly responding to the LIST command - it is not returning hidden (period prefixed) files in the directory listing. I investigated and found that vsFTPd would only return hidden files in the directory listing when it received the command "LIST -a". Reading RFC 959, it appears that the LIST command does not officially support any flags. I found the "force_dot_files" directive in the vsFTPd config file. Enabling the directive appears make vsFTPd RFC compliant with regards to responding to LIST -- returning all files and directories (even "dot files"). So I guess my question is: can anyone confirm that "LIST -a" really is contrary to the RFC? If so, does anyone know why $upstream_vendor would ship a default conf file that is standards non-compliant? Is there something I'm missing here? Thanks, Andy Hull

I would say that people know that 5.2 work and looking at changelogs, they don't see a real NEED to install 5.3. I personally always have the newest release though. One thing I would say to improve visibility, is making a bigger release. It took me a few days to find out that 5.3 was actually out. Maybe digg.com... Bug in yum Logwatch reporting

I've been noticing yum updates on several servers I manage over the last few weeks, which I know I didn't perform and could not explain until this morning. At first I suspect a break-in, but found no other evidence or reason an intruder would run the yum updates I was viewing. Yum updates are logged in /var/log/yum.log, which is what Logwatch scans. Seems that the format of the log entries is: "MMM DD", the year is missing! This morning looking at this log sequentially I noticed I did do yum updates on Apr 02 and Apr 03 as reported in last night's logwatch, but not April of 2009, but rather April of 2008! Has anyone else noticed this behavior and/or know if there is a fix in progress for it? Brett

Sending a postfix email to my domain.

Hi, I have setup postfix on my server (for my blog to send out emails) however I host my email on google apps. I want my server to be able to send emails towards my GoogleApps account but it's sending it to the user within the system (I know this is normal but I need it to be a bit different). acoread 9 slow printing

We use acroread on Centos 5 to print 11x17 plates for a printing press on a HP Laserjet 5100. acroread 8 (AdobeReader_enu-8.1.2-1.i486.rpm) prints a plate in between 60 and 90 seconds. acroread 9 (AdbeRdr9.1.0-1_i486linux_enu.rpm) prints the same plate in 10 to 15 minutes. I've tried this with several different PDF files and it's always the same result. Hooking the printer up with a parallel cable or with the HP Jetdirect network interface makes no noticeable difference. Something has turned the printing performance of acroread 9 into a slug. Not sure if this will solve it, but maybe try putting postfix on a different port. Has anyone on this list got sendmail and cyrus-imapd configured so that email addressed in the form username+folder(a)example.com gets delivered directly to cyrus' user.username.inbox.folder? I have been tinkering with this on and off for about a week and no matter what I have tried, all traffic addressed in the +folder format ends up in user.username.inbox instead. If anyone has gotten this to work then I would very much appreciate knowing the exact steps that you followed to implement it. 1. milter clamav borked?

hey, I upgraded a server to 5.3 from 5.2 today, its a mail server, and its using the rpmforge clamav milter... was getting errors in my mail log like... system-config-date-tui ??

Remote box keeps reverting the localtime to Eastern (America/New_York). cd /etc rm localtime && ln -s /usr/share/zoneinfo/UTC localtime fixes it - but it seems to revert from time to time, I presume from yum updates (or possibly an init script ??) In /etc/sysconfig there is a config file for it. I'd rather not manually edit it, it looks simple enough, but I'd rather use the tool if there is one. system-config-date wants to pull in ~ 20MB of stuff I don't want that looks like it is needed for a gui config tool, but yum can't find a system-config-date-tui alternative. Is there a text UI / console alternative, and what it is called? If not, where is the format for /etc/sysconfig/clock specified? Install is a xen image (originally CentOS 5.0), so selecting the desired local time at install wasn't an option. Right now it says: ZONE="America/New_York" UTC=false ARC=false Would changing ZONE to ZONE="UTC" be enough to keep my desired UTC localtime?

First off, I want to express my appreciation for the dedication of the CentOS developers for providing us with the quality work they always do. This is a question and a request for explanation so that my little mind can understand what's going on. And for those inquiring minds who want to know, I have already filed bug reports. ;^> Over the weekend I went through several boxes here at home and upgraded from 5.2 to 5.3. I was a good boy and read the release notes first, followed the procedures recommended therein, and the upgrades went just fine. I have to say that I was less than ecstatic when I saw my desktop machines install NetworkManager and PPP where they had not been installed before. A bit of poking at the new situation led me to the conclusion that NetworkManager is now a requirement of Evolution, and PPP is a requirement of NetworkManager. Since these are desktop boxes that do not move around, and communicate via my in-house LAN over a single Ethernet interface, I don't see any pressing need for NetworkManager and PPP. I would appreciate it if someone could shed some light on this situation, since the only conclusion that I can draw so far is that this is unnecessary system bloat. PHP framework for book sharing?

Several coworkers and I have scattered amongst us all sorts of resources related to the mesh stuff we do (RADIUS, networking, RF, antennas, microwave, R&S, Linux, etc), and most of these resources are in the form of PDF or Word docs. Is there a PHP framework that I can easily "yum install" on a CentOS box that would allow us to login and easily share these resources with each other? (Ideally, something like this would have an RSS feed so that we could get updates when a coworker uploads something.)

DKMS and new(er) Nvidia-drivers

I got the DKMS-system working and now have the Nvidia-drivers v173.08 installed (using rpmforge as suggested previously). Unfortunately this particular driver version gives me screen artifacts so as to make the screen more or less unreadable. Nvidia's proprietary drivers are now up to v180.44 and this version is fine with my test system. I really like the DKMS-system, as it enables me to keep kernel and gfx-drivers up-to-date on our course-lab computers doing 3D-molecular modeling. However if I can't make use of newer, and better, drivers this whole thing is borked for me... 8-/ My question is who updates those drivers, as the v173.08 Nvidia drivers are now almost a year old? Would there be any other good repo with more current drivers suitable for use with DKMS and CentOS? The repos I found are tagged with PCLinux, Mandriva and Ubuntu to name a few. I'm not quite sure these rpms would work with CentOS and the dkms install there. Any hints appreciated. how to get iptables rule to log actions?

Hi all, I need to block access to an external IP address, on CentOS 5 with iptables, but can't seem to get it right. I have the following options in /etc/sysconfig/iptables: -A RH-Firewall-1-OUTPUT -d 87.89.180.50 -j LOG -A RH-Firewall-1-OUTPUT -d 87.89.180.50 - j DROP But when I restart iptables, I get the following errors: Flushing firewall rules: [OK] Setting chains to policy ACCEPT: filter [OK] Unloading iptables modules: [OK] Applying iptables firewall rules: iptables-restore v1.3.5: Couldn't load target: 'RH-Firewall-1-OUTPUT':/lib/iptables/libipt_RH-Firewall-1-OUTPUT.so: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory. Initial 5.3 install box froze at end of CD 3

Hi, With the 5.3 CDS I started an install got through to 98% of CD 3 but I was called away. Came back this morning and the box was on, but had frozen.. Every time I reboot, cold boot, I come up with black screen.. Vers 0.97 <grub> Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. TAB etc.. Is there a way I can get to CD 4 and continue the install, or am I back to the top again?? Thanks rock

Can't install domUs in 5.3 dom0

Hello. I can't install 5.3 domUs in 5.3 dom0 with the very same /etc/xen/domU.cfg and remote domU.ks that I've used in Centos 5.1. The only I've changed is Centos version (including new 5.3 xen kernel and initrd images). Results are that anaconda can't assing networki configuration to network interface (probably because of not seeing it) and such error messages in xend.log: [2009-04-04 12:45:42 xend 2999] DEBUG (blkif:27) exception looking up device number for xvda: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/dev/xvda' Is there any way to fix this or shell I roll back to 5.1? -- Tomek

5.3 upgrade - fuse and ipw3945 unistall

Fortunately I was starring at the screen during an upgrade and 'caught' the following set of messages. It is hard to remember what I installed fuse for, I think for webdav. My system has a ipw3945 pci card, wireless is working. centos 4.7 - logwatch - and perl script applytaidate

does anyone have a working perl script called applytaidate that works on latest centos 4 that they would please share? i am working on learning more about logwatch and the half dozen "applytaidate" scripts i have tried have all bombed and were not easily discernable to fix thanks in advance! - rh
