What will the upgrade to 5.2 be like?

I have a few servers that I really have to build already. Got to buckle down and get it done; no more waiting for 5.2 as a 'reason' to put it off for another day. I will be building a local repository for 5.2 as soon as the ISOs are posted (well as soon as my 768Kb DSL link will allow), so what am I looking at for the 'cost' of the upgrade?

Autofs and mount/umount entries in the nfs server logs

I am using autofs for a number of machines connecting nfs shares. All the mount and unmount log entries on the server are being saved to /var/log/messages currently. This is becoming a bit of a pain because as the number of hosts increase and various monitoring scripts check to be sure that they have access to the nfs shares it is filling up messages on the nfs server. I would like to continue to see these messages but I would like to see them put else where but looking through the documentation for syslog I couldn't find any way to separate just those messages out. I assume(hope) that someone else has run into this problem and found a way around it. My googlefoo has failed me on this one though I might just not be looking for the right thing. Thanks, Rob

Logitech cordless desktop ex 90

Anyone using ex 90? I have it running, no problem. Only mouse was little tricky, namely in X. But jut a little change in xorg.conf and everything works fine (CO 5.1 desktop install with vanilla kernel). Now would like to get keyboards extra buttons in use. Question is, anyone configured it allready, or do I have to invent wheel? again :D Jarmo

All, Apologies for cluttering the list, but I just wanted to say hello and prepare all for a barage of silly discussions from a tech-hypochondriac! We have recently purchased two servers running CentOS, and as I'm from more of a Debian based background, it would be good if someone could point out the two or three main differences please? I'm reading up on the package management as I type, but any quick tips and tricks for (web) server admin with CentOS would be magic. Sorry for being cheeky! mdbtools on CentOS

Morning everyone, I was hoping to use mdbtools to extract data from some Access databases overnight. I have yum installed the tools from Dag and also downloaded and (eventually!) compiled the latest release from the mdbtools web site, but I either get 'buffer overflow' errors or no output from most of the tools. I have been trying to cvs checkout the latest development version but sourceforge's cvs login keeps timing out. Is anyone hereabouts using mdbtools successfully, or can anyone suggest any other tools that will dump access databases on a scheduled basis? I have done test migrations using the MySQL gui tools and that works fine, but I don't think the operation can be scripted. On a side note, I also need to do the same for MS-SQL data - does anyone have any favourite tools for automating data extraction? Everything ultimately needs to end up in a MySQL database Any advice appreciated. Thanks Nigel Kendrick

Recent problems printing to HP 7310 port 9100

I have been printing to this printer for years it seems. Recently, printing from Firefox would hang in the print que, but other prints would go behind the hung job. Deleting the hung print job would not seem to change the que until I rebooted. Now I have an OpenOffice job stuck as well. I am using the recommended hpijs device driver. Any ideas what may be wrong here? I am going to have to email this spreadsheet over to my XP system and print from there. How embarrassing.

Command line logging program suggestions?

I am looking for an app that would run from the terminal and would emulate a bash shell (or pass everything to the shell) that would allow me to set a log file and then record all my input and the output to the screen from the commands. As an added bonus if it would allow me to run it from two terminals (or more) on the same machine and log all the input and output to the same file while still displaying it on the screen that would be great. The goal being that when making changes or diagnosing a problem it can sometimes become hard to tell what command came when especially when you have more than one termial session open. While using putty with a really large buffer helps it doesn't deal well with the two terminal issue or disconnected sessions. Anyone know of an app like this or any suggestions that could be added to my bashrc to provide the functionality? Thanks, Rob

Hi, Is it not ok to use both plugins at the same time? I have read from the wiki page of centos that you must use only either protect base or priorities plugin. I have been using the the config file below for months and did not encounter any problems. I used priority=1 and protect=1 on base and updates (addons,extras protect=1 ; set no priorities) for the CentOS-Base repo and on the rpmforge repo I used protect=0 and did not set any priority. Should I enable only one (protect base or priorities) and not both? Thanks. Help with gcc 4.3.x and libfortran errors

I am trying to install gcc 4.3.0 or 4.3.1 on a 64-bit CentOS 5.0 machine, fully patched, and keep getting: make[3]: *** [libgfortran.la] error 1 make[3]: Leaving directory /path/to/source/libgfortran make[2]: *** [all] error 2 make[2]: leaving directory /path/to source/libgfortran make[1]: *** [all-target-libgfortran] error 2 make[1]: leaving directory /path/to/source make: *** [all] error 2 Web searching has yielded a myriad of hits, including various bug reports. Just read on planet centos that you can easily install apt on Centos too using yum. Desktop Effects -- questions/issues

Hi! I finally tried enabling the desktop effects yesterday. I'm using an old Nvidia card (GeForce 4 MX440) with, of course, Nvidia's drivers. this is on a fully updated Centos 5 system. Enabling from the gnome menu doesn't exactly work compltely, one needs to google around a bit to find out the remaining magic incantations to make it fully work. So, I've done that and it's working. Issues: 1. I notice that the text in the bar at the top of each window appears to be a different font, and it is outlined in black. Is there any way to tweak that setting? 2. If I have a window that is slid partially off the edge of an individual desktop it now oveerlaps the edge of the one "next" to it, when it never did before. Not sure if I like that or not, is there any way to change that behavior should I decide I don't like it? 3. I have (and always have had) the panel settings set to "autohide". I now notice that it sometimes does not hide itself until I explicitly click in an empty part of the panel, then somewhere else on the desktop. Anyone know if there's a way to resovle this? Question: Should I decide I want to revert to the way it was before I enabled these effects, how would I go about that? there is no "disable" button on the gnome menu, only the "enable" button. I know how to un-do the changes I made manually in the xorg.conf file, but no idea how to undo whatever it is that the "enable desktop effects" button does. Clues would be appreciated. I am trying to compile an application on a CentOS 5.0 64-bit machine that gives me the error: /usr/local/bin/myprog: /usr/lib64/libstdc++: version `GLIBXX.3.4.9' not found (required by /usr/local/bin/myprog) I have gcc 4.2.3. I've performed a yum install compat-* and glibc* What am I missing? Thanks. Scott

remote access info please

Hi ya'll, I built a new CentOS 5.1 server for a client, housing a Lotus Notes / Domino server, and various other virtualized IBM software server guests, and soon will have to physically move that server to another distant location. My question is that I will need secure access to those servers via X, not just the C/L terminal. What do you recommend for a good secure CentOS program which would do this. Would also want to access via a high port, but I am sure just about any program will allow this to be manually configured. Thanks for your help and input. -- Regards, Gary

linux rescue on usb thumbdrive

I believe the same issue I see with running "linux rescue" on a USB drive is the same issue I am having why the thumb drive wont boot. When installing I have to use expert mode I just cant install directly as the USB disk is not seen. What happens extra in expert mode? some delay somewhere??? When doing a linux rescue it looks for existing installations and finds none. This is because the USB disk is not yet ready. If I do "fdisk -l /dev/sda" from the shell given it is not there, wait a couple second do it again and NOW the fdisk -l /dev/sda shows the device... Its just like when you stick a USB disk in a working machine. takes a few second to be mount-able. So the big question is how do I get the USB disk to be recognized a FEW second later? The boot is happening tooo fast and I think and my USB disk is not yet ready. That is why it cant find my ext3 file system on the disk. I am so close to getting this thing running. Any suggestion/comments on what I am finding and how to get past it? Thanks guys. jerry

YUM and installing older versions of software.

How does one specify a particular version of a software package to yum to install? Is this even possible? What happens to superceded pacjkages in repos? Are they simple removed/discarded? yum install package-X.Y.Z-A.el5 ??? The reason I ask is if a yum update goes awry for some reason then how does one revert to the previous (working) version? struggling with simple webdav

Normally I use authzldap to authenticate LDAP users but in this case, I have a client that wants non-LDAP users to be able to use DAV. New to Centos, and linux in general

I've installed DSL linux -- no problem My expertise is in the HP3000 (non windows, non unix) environment. When I boot from Centos CD#1 I get a Panic error..... I'm thinking hardware is the issue so I try a different machine, same thing. I've tried 'linux rescue', 'linux mem=256' still the same error, which is mostly unreadable to me because most all the messages roll off the top of the screen. centos 5.1 install failure

Greetings. I am attempting to install 5.1 x86_64, but it is dumping out during the post-install section. I was able to send a debug to a remote system. I've never looked through an install debug log before, but everything seems to be in order until after the "tar" install, at which point I get the following error: error: db4 error(-30977) from dbcursor->c_put: DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error, run database recovery This db4 error runs until the system finally notices a crash. This box ran centos 4.x for over a year without a problem. Supermicro motherboard Intel 3.2 gig Xeon procs, x2 8 gigs memory 3ware 9550 12port SATA 3ware 8006 2 port SATA No other pci cards. I also ran memtest with no errors. It ran for approx. 15 hours. I tried to install with the 5.0 discs as well, but that install failed as well. I turned of ACPI in the bios after the second failure. This didn't help. I have been using the graphical install. I am about to try the text-based install. Any thoughts? Thanks, Monty

Environment: - CentOS 5.1, - Apache 2.2.3 - php 5.1.6 - phpMyAdmin 2.11.6 - MySQL 5.0.22 Brand new system, brand new installation of all the above products. All looks well, but when I try to connect to phpMyAdmin, I get an error: "Forbidden: You don't have permission to access /phpMyAdmin/ on this server". I'll forgo all the paths I followed trying to get this to work and cut to the "solution": I renamed the phpMyAdmin directory to pma, copied all files in the pma directory to a new phpMyAdmin (FWIIW, using 'cp -pr'), and voilà, problem vanished. (I cannot explain why I even tried that.) My first idea was that maybe the copy somehow resolved some issue at the directory level, but when I output an 'ls -laR' of the two directories to two files, 'diff' shows both files to be identical (apart from the timestamps on . and .. directories). The pma and phpMyAdmin directories reside in the same documentroot, have the same ownership, and the same permissions. This must be about the weirdest experience in my professional career. If anyone can shed a light on this, it'd be most welcome. I still have the original (malfunctioning) directory on the system to bounce ideas off if anyone has any inspiration (system will go live this weekend). I'd like to consolidate some services that have been assigned by IP (dns, syslog etc.) onto one machine by giving it IP aliases to accept connections for the old addresses until all the references are fixed. Kernel/harware question

Hello, I have an IBM Netvista and since kernel 2.6.9-34.0.2, I have not been able to upgrade to the latest kernel. If I do, in about 8 hours, the system becomes sluggish almost unresponsive. Currently I am running 4.6 but with the kernel mentioned above. I think I may have figured out the problem. It seems when I reboot with the new kernel, kudzu runs and wants to configure a different driver for this card, Intel Pro/100. If it does, it will cause the problem I mentioned. If I don't let it update the driver, it seems to be fine. So my question is how can I force it to use the driver from kernel 2.6.9-34.0.2? Is it something I need to add to grub.conf?? If so, what? TIA

We have a cron job that needs to run every 15 minutes throughout business hours. The first run is at 8:00, the last run is at 17:00. Is it possible to specify this time range in a single line? */15 8-17 * * 1-5 will run 8:00 - 17:45. That's not what I want. Likewise */15 8-16 * * 1-5 will have the last run at 16:45, not 17:00 This is more of a brainteaser than a real problem. I can easily configure the job with multiple entries, but I'm a little obsessive-compulsive so I want to try to do it with one entry. # rpm -qa vixie-cron vixie-cron-4.1-49.EL4 -- Jeff

Hi I read and used the article http://blog.wazollc.com/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=2 to authenticate my ad accounts when logging on to cent 5...however, once I edit the nsswitch.conf file, I can't even log on as root or any local users anymore. Kinit seems to initialize fine doing a kinit username(a)MYDOMAIN.COM , however doing a getent passwd adusername ....it just sits there in the shell and does nothing. I actually had to put all files back to where they were before the change to even be able to login locally or use sudo. I followed the steps line by line on this article but get stuck everytime....anyone has an idea or a better documented way of achieving what I am trying to do , please let me know. Thanks, Isaac

custom kernel cant find label /

Hi all, I installed centos 4.6 on a USB thumbdrive. It installed and booted after install. I then put a custom kernel on, build it as I should, on rebooting and selecting my kernel to load from grub I it starts up and all and the last error I get is: label / not found. What went wrong? Jerry

ClamAV help needed

ClamAV is installed on my CentOS box. I edited the conf file and assumed all is well. Clearly it isn't. Every day I see in logwatch that my signatures are updated, and the database notified, but if I try to scan a file manually it tells me that my signatures are 55 days old. I tried looking at a how-to, in the hope of identifying the problem, but it is hopelessly out of date, and I reached the stage where it seemed that following it any further risked my installation. Can someone please give me a quick run-down of the things I should check. Clearly freshclam is running, but that's about all I know for certain. Thanks Anne

Speaking of USB devices (recent thread on wireless USB), I need at least 4 USB ethernet dongles, cheap. I asked the sellers about chipsets to find out about Linux support and the first one listed the seller just restated it works for Windows.... Any help would be appreciated. I need these for test systems so best is it works and is cheap....

Apache jserv monitoring?

In our environment we have many legacy application servers running apache/jserv. There is a web server front end, then a couple of load-balanced java servers on the backside. One of the problems we are faced with is hung or stuck jvms. I have looked at the java process with the ps command, and there are many times when URL(s) do not respond, yet the java looks healthy, at least from the OS point of view. The usual cure for this situation is to restart the JVM, then the URLs come right back up. Are any of you aware of tools for monitoring apache jserv, either from localhost or by connecting to port 8008 over the network? I really want to find out if there is a way to detect a "sick" JVM other than getting a bunch of down URL alerts on my phone.

Has anyone else tried and successfully installed CentOS 5.1 into the latest (1.62) Virtual Box in Windows XP Pro? I can get Ubuntu and EasyS to install fine but CentOS and Fedora so far fail to install even after several attempts. With CentOS 5.1 it keeps saying not enough disk space even if I allocate 32 GB and 64 GB of virtual space. I have at least 40+ GB free on the hard drive. No virus found in this outgoing message. I'm trialing the use of lighttpd/php to improve performance for a web services cluster. My initial testing on Fedora Core 8 was very positive, but it seems that CentOS 4 doesn't have a package that installs the /usr/bin/php-cli file as available in Fedora Core 8? In FC8, it's found in a package called "php-cli". At Dell's they propose a hardware support, however not for that model. Nevertheless they support officially CentOS. That's why I asked whether anyone had encoutered the same problem already, and could perhaps provide a solution. Yours, Peter I would recommend looking at your network speed/duplex negotiation with your switch. I suspect your switch may be full duplex and your network card half or vice versa. Try forcing your network card to various speed/duplex settings (and your switch if it is a decent managed unit) and re-try your testing. This is the most common cause of network performance issues. cheers

booting usb stick

Hi all, I have been trying to get a usb stick 8G to boot centos. I am as far a it boots and hangs at "Switching to new root". I take the same USB stick and put it another PC and it boots fine. What might I look for as to why the machine hangs at switching to new root? Of course the machines are different. The one that does not boot is an ebox 2300sx and the one that does boot is an amd 4800+ with all disks unplugged except the USB stick. I am sooooo close. Jerry

Previously when i click the "Show Details" Menu it will display the system boot-up standard messages.I do not know what will happen and After some time when i click the "Show Details" Menu it will not display the system boot-up standard messages and it will display the following message alone "Enabling Swap Space OK" on clicking "Show Details" Menu I tried to google-out and i can't find out the show details and hide details configuration files I am not sure why this is happening. I have done this before, and found it to be a bit of a pain to make UNIX UID/GIDs, to ADS SID mappings the same on multiple machines. I had found a utility called wbuser , http://www.occam.com/tools/README.wbuser-1.1 , that could delete and add the UID to SID mappings but did not work for GID to SID mappings. Fortunately, I found that I could just copy the Trivial Data Base (TDB) file called winbind_idmap.tdb from one machine to all the others, and then start the samba smb and winbind daemons afterwards. Since all the machines have the same mappings, they can share nfs mounts and the file and directory ownerships are consistent across the multiple machines. Rodney Mercer

CUPS problem

Hello, I am running centOS 4.3 and my cups print server suddenly stopped working, now when i reboot the server it hangs a time starting the cups service and when finally the system boots up, everything remains in the queue but not printing at all. Strange thing is all the print jobs appears owned by the user nobody. anytime i try to cancel a job i cant because it tell me i have no rights to do it despite im logged as root. Via webmin i got the error: lprm: unable to lprm jobs I will appreciate any comment or tip. Regards, --Ivan.

getting device to boot from thumb drive

I have created a custom kernel as I needed to add floating point emulation to the kernel. I used the command below to create my initrd: mkinitrd --preload=ohci-hcd --preload=uhci-hcd --preload=ehci-hcd --preload=ext3 --preload=jbd --preload=scsi_mod --preload=sd_mod --preload=ata_piix --preload=libata /boot/initrd-2.6.9-67.ELmsgnet.img 2.6.9-67.ELmsgnet When I copy my vmlinuz and initrd to my ext partition of my thumbdrive I get the initial grub screen, centos starts booting, kernel starts uncompressing, I get the following: Unable to locate RDSP RedHat nash version 4.2.1.13 starting sda: assuming drive cache: write through sda: assuming drive cache: write through Then it just sits there. Nothing else happens. What might else I need to get this thumb drive booting? I compiled the kernel in i386 math emulation is the only items I changed. I started with i586. Thanks, Jerry

iptables starting while disabled

I have a xen machine that has iptables turned off, and after a reboot it started behaving badly during times when network IO rose to anything other than almost nil. Since I know iptables makes xen unstable without some additional config and since its isolated I just have is disabled. As a result it was the last place I looked and spent the better half of the day chasing my tail. Somehow it gets turned on after a reboot, how can I deduce what is activating it? Thanks! jlc

enabling maildir @ cli

Hi all, I'm following a how-to for ISPConfig using CentOS5.1 and have run into the following instruction: ----- Dovecot uses Maildir format (not mbox), so if you install ISPConfig on the server, please make sure you enable Maildir under Management -> Server -> Settings -> Email. TCP offload cards in linux

Anyone have experience with any? I've been having a real hard time finding info on any cards that actually support this under linux. (most of the cards work but I don't see drivers that actually offload the TCP stack) I have seen some comments where kernel developers don't like the idea as well. I'm running CentOS 4.6 64-bit on a dual proc quad core system with 8GB memory. I have a situation where I'm trying to make the most of my hardware here, a web application that serves up hundreds of tiny requests per second(each taking typically sub 100ms to complete). With my load balancer in it's "normal" mode I can pump about 1000 requests a second through the system, before exhausting the TCP stack on the server(all ~65k sockets in use). CPU usage tops out at about 75%. The "normal" mode terminates idle connections forcefully after 25 seconds. If I tell my load balancer to terminate idle connections *immediately* instead of waiting 25 seconds, I get similar CPU usage but transactions per second drop by about 30-33%. During my tests I've also gotten 4 kernel panics, the last two I have captured and they are virtually identical, with the exception of one time it panic's on the java process, another time it panics on the swapper process. Both times the load balancer was configured to terminate connections faster than 25 seconds. I've done several searches and can't find anything remotely related to the below panic. What might I do Linux-wise to create a "system" that looked at multiple gateways and then assigned (via DHCP) the gateway that was the least congested? Anyone have any good suggestions in this department? (I am planning on having a temporary wireless mesh with several satellite uplinks, and I would like to forward requests to whichever uplink is the least utilized)

Hi All, I have posted this messgage yesterday in the Beowulf mailing list, and did not get any responses, as i have tried different Centos kernels to see if the behaviour changes or not, and it did not change much, I am posting it here, I hope no one minds, and thanks in advance for any pointers or clues? ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Walid <walid.shaari(a)gmail.com> Date: 2008/6/12 Subject: RHEL5 network throughput/scalability To: beowulf(a)beowulf.org Hi All, I have an issue with a new cluster setup where the nodes are RHEL5.1(with the latest 5.2 kernel), when i try to write NFS data, the nodes scale linearly until they reach the 10th node, that is the bandwidth , and throughput seen from the NFS sever on the other side of the nodes shows a liner increment from around 100+Mbyte/sec up to 1Gbyte/sec, however when we add another extra node to the equation the bandwidth/throughput becomes erratic/inconsistent, and drops to around 500-700Mbyte/sec. however if i try the same setup with RHEL4U6 i do not get the same behaviour it sustains the bandwidth at 1Gbyte/sec. the setup is like this 48 nodes sharing 48 port access switch that is up linked using 10g link to a CISCO 6509 switch which is linked to a Clustered NFS File system that consist of eight heads where each head linked using a 10G link to the 6509. the above was a write test, so i thought may be the tcp congestion kicked in, or sliding windows problem, however when i do a read test it gets worse, the scalability now is reduced to 5 nodes that is one node is able to read around 100 MBps, two will read double, and so on until you add the fifth node where the bandwidth drops from around 500+MBps to around 300, and again from RHEL4 the behaviour is different. any pointers? pthread_setschedprio function in glibc-2.3.4

I re-installed glibc-2.3.4-2.39.src.rpm on CentOS 4.6, and tried to use pthread_setschedprio() API in glibc library, but it fails. Here is my system information. Operating System CentOS 4.6 (x86_64), Linux version 2.6.9-67.Elsmp gcc version 3.4.6 20060404 (Red Hat 3.4.6-9) glibc (pthread) src glibc-2.3.4-2.39.src.rpm I checked that setschedprio function is in the GLIB_2.3.4 but I got following errors [root@localhost TMP]# gcc d.c -o d -lpthread /tmp/ccEeiBLd.o(.text+0x179): In function `main': : undefined reference to `pthread_setschedprio' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status Can I get any advice to use that API?

mdmonitor not triggering program on fail events

Hi, Can anyone help me with this since I want to get it done "the correct way" I'm trying to make mdmonitor to execute a program when it detects a fail event automatically. Currently, from what I see, init is calling mdmonitor with these options mdadm --monitor --scan -f (note that the --program is not there) and this is in my /etc/mdadm.conf MAILADDR root PROGRAM /root/program_2_run.sh short of hacking the mdmonitor script to hardcode the program there, is there an alternate, more elegant way? Thanks.

Problems installing 5.1 on a Tyan Thunder HEsl with a SCSI controller

Hi, I'm trying to install 5.1 using the onboard LSI Symbios 53C1010, and I'm running into some trouble. When the computer first boots, the SCSI BIOS sees the three HDDs, but when I go to install, the installer hangs for a while at inserting the sym53c8xx driver and if I go over to the screen on F4 it shows that it is trying to scan the SCSI bus and is resetting all of the IDs. Once that is done, it moves on the the actual installer, but does not see any drives. I'm kind of at a loss at the moment. I feel like there would be a kernel boot option that I could give the installer, but I don't know what that would be. I know the SCSI IDs of the three HDDs (and the controller), is there a way to say "just use these IDs and move along"? I'm currently downloading a Fedora 9 CD (I don't have a spare DVDROM) to see if a newer kernel will help, as going back down to CentOS 5.0 didn't (I had it at hand). Thanks for any help! --Tim

rebuilding kernel modules issues

I have a Tyan S3870 (K855A) motherboard which I would like to perform a burn in test with. lm_sensors needs a kernel module compiled to be support this motherboard's sensors. General CentOS 5.1 (or Gnome) instability?

I've been a big fan of CentOS for a while, and didn't have many issues with CentOS 4.X over the past few years. However, since moving to CentOS 5.1 a few weeks ago, I have received more problem reports from my users than in the last year and a half on CentOS 4.X. I've previously reported the problem with gnome-terminal crashing (and since there is a single gnome-terminal process by default all your terminal windows disappear which makes this really painful), and now I'm getting multiple reports of Gnome applets suddenly quitting. Sometimes this includes the entire screen "flashing" (probably a side effect of the "Show Desktop" applet exiting). I've also had reports of some third party tools like SlickEdit misbehaving and/or crashing on CentOS 5.1. Don't get me wrong; I'm not really complaining about CentOS. I really appreciate what the CentOS team does. I am just wondering if anyone else has seen these issues. If it was just one or two users, I would suspect the hardware or some configuration issues. But these issues started cropping up after I upgraded our existing systems to CentOS 5.1. The "upgrade" was a complete reinstall via a kickstart script (I reformatted all partitions/LVs except for one), and all systems are configured identically. BTW, I'm using CentOS for our desktops as well as our servers, and all these problems are really confined to the desktop systems. Almost everyone uses the default Gnome desktop. So, does anyone else have the perception that CentOS 5.X (particularly Gnome) is a little less stable than CentOS 4.X or is it just me? Alfred

LDAP syncrepl incompatibility between CentOS 4.x and 5.x

All, After many hours of research I have found there is a incompatibility between OpenLDAP V2.3.x and V2.2.x, or atleast between V2.3.27 the current version on CentOS V5 and V2.2.13 the current version on CentOS V4. The syncrepl feature of OpenLDAP, to keep multiple slapd servers sync'd, was working between CentOS 4 and 5 at one time, as that is how I populated the "slave" servers. I've found references indicating protocol changes and incompatibilities between these versions and indeed looking at detailed debugging logs I can see the protocol falling apart between the two versions. Has anyone else seen this issue? Is anyone aware of a fix in the pipeline or a work around? Thanks in advance, Brett

>From the manual, localnets matches hosts belonging to a network for which the server has an interface in. I have a dns server in a dmz with an ip of 192.168.2.2 in /24. Named.conf has 3 views, localhost_resolver -> localhost, internal -> localnets, and external -> !localnets; !localhost. I have a management workstation in 192.168.0.0/24 that is connecting and receiving the following debug: client 192.168.0.44#2188: no matching view in class 'IN' I don't get it? Obvioulsy if I add all to the external view, it works. How is the failing? Thanks! jlc

Reg. setting Domain name on Cento 5 pc

Hi all, I am running centos 5.1 and I wish to change the domain name and dnsdomainname of my PC. currently the settings are-- $ hostname sipx.com $ hostname --fqdn sipx.com $ domainname (none) $ dnsdomainname com I have searched in the net for tips but everywhere only the hostname change is provided. I need to change/set the domain name and the dnsdomain name on my pc to sipx.com and this should be a permanent one across system reboots. Please let me know how to do this. The domain name settings are required for a networking/ SIP telephony applications that I am running but it is internally in the LAN, so I think the name sipx.com if chosen as my pc's domain name will not cause any conflict with the external domain names in the Internet. Thank You

INN with SSL

Hello, on a INN mailinglist i have found , that in order to use INN over SSL i need to call another instance of nnrpd like this : su news -c '/usr/local/news/bin/nnrpd -D -c /usr/local/news/etc/readers-ssl.conf -p 563 -S' I am using INN from official centos 5.1 rpm . My question is, where to init scripts /etc/init.d/inn or somewhere else put such a line to have INN listening on 563 for SSL connections? Thanks in advance! David
