apche vhosts ldap

Hi all, i am building a web server on centos version 4 running httpd-2.0.52 mysql we have a ldap server on the network which has got all the vhost details. so i am trying to pull vhost details from the ldap server could not find module vhosts ldap for centos. can some one please point me in the right direction any help is much appreciated. cheers phani

You could then preserve the IP addresses for both your internal and external addresses. You wouldn't even have to nat to the asterix box since the ISA server could handle the routing and obviously if the source or dest is an internal IP then the packet gets sent to the internal interface and vice versa. Document Scanning and Storage

I'd like to start scanning our boxed up documents. I'd say about 30,000 files total. Mostly to eliminate the boxes of paper we have. I'd like to scan them, store them, Have some sort of index, and be able to retrieve them on multiple machines. I think PDF would be the desired format. I'd like be able to set some permissions as well. (not a deal breaker...) I've searched Sourceforge, and have seen knowledgetree, myDMS, contineo, etc, but really would like to hear from someone that is using something similar. Of course, I use Centos, so..... With the current discuss of "Performance of CentOS as a NAT gateway", I am curious how many people out there are using CentOS as a Router/Firewall in an enterprise or service provider environment. For myself I am not really concerned about NAT just a stateful firewall. The other half of my questions is about performance. I have read many articles and posts on the net about performance tuning but they all seem to be about tuning a single host, not a router. Does any have any tips in this area? Is tuning even required. Did a fresh install of CentOS-5 x86_64 on my server with Areca RAID (2 5TB RAID-5 arrays) with the OS on mirrored SCSI disks set up as software RAID-1 using Karanbir's dd ISO image. Used custom install and mounted the existing Areca RAID arrays as /data1 and /data2 (as they were for CentOS-4 - originally set up by the vendor with RHEL-4). Install and reboot went flawlessly, but after update to the latest kernel a reboot did not find the driver for kernel-2.6.18-8.1.8.el5 and left me in single-user mode. Copied /lib/modules/2.6.18-8.el5/updates/arcmsr.ko created by the original installation to /lib/modules/2.6.18-8.1.8.el5/weak-updates/arcmsr.ko did "depmod -a" and "modprobe arcmsr" and the Areca devices then mounted. I'm a newbie to weak-updates so would appreciate it if anyone could point out the "right way" [TM] to do this automagically when a new kernel is installed. Perhaps my google-foo is off today, or I have not exercised sufficient diligence to RTFM, but can't seem to find the recipe. Meanwhile, back at the ranch... Wanted to try the dkms approach and the spec file below (based on RPMforge dkms-r1000.spec) worked for me. CentOS 5 on IA64

Hi All, I am looking for information on when CentOS 5 will be available for IA64. I found this forum posting but no responses http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=8714&forum=45 I am looking to perform a large migration of about 500 workstations from various Suse and Red Hat versions to CentOS to standardize some what. Because I have to support x86 (32 & 64) and IA64 it would be nice to do this all at once. I know that CentOS 4.5 supports all the platforms listed, but if it's going to come out soon I'll just wait as it offers my users a lot more in terms of packages and support. BTW: Anyone out there have CentOS on SGI Altix? -- James A. Can't install Kaffeine from RPMForge repo

Hi, I'm currently fiddling with the KDE desktop just to see if it suits our users better than the default GNOME. I configured the RPMForge repos and launched a 'yum install kaffeine'. CentOSPlus Perl Upgrade

Problem with VSFTP

I have a vsftp server hosted on custom dyndns site. We have a 4mb ADSL connection. When I tried to download the files from the ftp server with wan IP address or the dyndns address it downloads some files and disconnects. Does anybody know whether it is possible to enable MD5 passwords for NIS and local passwords? Is it just a matter of running authconfig --enablemd5 and new passwords will use MD5 and old ones will still work? Of course using LDAP might be a "better" solution (if it was easy to install). Performance of CentOS as a NAT gateway

We have a single 3GHz P4 box w/2GB RAM running CentOS 3.8, acting as a gateway, which serves multiple IP address, having one virtual interface for each IP, e.g., eth0:1, eth0:2, etc. These interfaces/IPs are on the public internet. Each of these IP addresses is the NAT address for a different small LAN. All of these LANs are connected through a single Linksys 100Mb switch, to eth1 on the gateway. Thus, in case it's not obvious from that description, traffic from LAN X travels through through the switch to eth1 on the gateway, where iptables translates it to the IP address of eth0:X and thence out to the net. The gateway is totally idle except for handling these NATs; no other processes except the usual OS bookkeeping. All NIC and switch hardware involved is 100Mb. This all works, but we're experiencing network congestion somewhere. The LANs appear to become saturated when only about 10Mb of total traffic is passing through the public IPs. That is, we seem to be losing almost 90% of our capacity somewhere in the translation. Before we attempt to sweep this under the rug by using Gb NICs/switches for the LANs, we'd like to understand what's going on. I can't find any recent statistics for Linux NAT performance, but the older stuff I can find (e.g. 50k packets/sec for a P3-450Mhz) seems to indicate that the gateway should easily be up to the task of handling the NAT traffic. Am I wrong about this? Is there any way to diagnose whether the NAT is the bottleneck? Would we benefit from upgrading to a newer CentOS (2.6 kernel as opposed to 2.4)? Or is it more likely to be the switch, in which case what would be a recommended replacement for the Linksys? I can provide more details in private mail if necessary. I am trying to package ruby-1.8.6 for CentOS-4.5 and I would like to take a look at the spec files used for ruby-1.8.1 that ships with CentOS. Is there any place that I can see these or could someone do me the kindness of sending them to me? I am also confused as to how one breaks out the component parts of a build into separate rpm packages. The source distribution from ruby-lang.org seemingly permits only three install options; all, no-docs and docs-only. How and where does one refactor the build scripts to create separate rpms for ruby, ruby-libs, ruby-devel, ruby-docs, rdoc, irb, ri, and ruby-tcltk? I would appreciate greatly any guidance here. I have zero experience with creating rpm packages, but I ran across a reference to checkinstall in a reply to one of my queries on ruby-forum and have decided to have a go at putting an rpm together, for my own purposes if it proves beyond my capability to do so for the community. Nautilus won't start

I've been running CentOS 5 since release on a couple of servers with few problems. Last night I tried it as a workstation for the first time. It booted up fine and I could log into X. I then ran pup to install all available updates and shut down afterwards to load the new kernel. (I use yum on the servers.) This morning I start up on the new kernel and after logging in at the Gnome prompt, I get a message that Nautilus can't start. I'm not an X guru, being mostly a server driver over ssh. What's the best way to debug this? (I have lots of experience debugging, just not with X.)

Is there a limit to the size of the form that apache will accept? I have a small import utility (not php - just straight cgi and C program). It will import smaller files. 350 Meg is the largest I successfully did. But a 6.5G file it will not do. Seems like the form does even submit. Is there a config option in apache that doesnt even accept it? I looked at /var/log/httpd/ error and access and nothing is there. Any ideas? Jerry

need help on second Ethernet port (eth1) point to point connect

I have two DELL servers with two Ethernet ports in it. Bith servers have CENTOS 4.5 installed. First Ethernet port connect to public Ethernet line and work correctly. Second Ethernet port I connect point-to-point as private Ethernet (cable direct connect without router or switch). Private Ethernet use IP asddress 1.1.1.1 and 1.1.1.2. I check "ifconfig -a" and both eth0 and eth1 are up and active. when I tried to ping another server use second port (private) and no response. Does anything I configure wrong? Hi, Is there a tool in centos which can save the actual network configuration somehow? Preferably to the network-scripts directory. I'd like to have it configured the Centos-way but it seems a bit puzzling to set up multiple routing tables... Zizi

Because the kernel and kmod-drbd were pushed out at the same time, there was no need to hold the kernel update until kmod-drbd becomes available. However, yum update failed . Turns out kmod-drbd needed to be excluded from the extras repo. This was because centosplus is given a lower priority than extras and yum tried to pull kmod-drbd (for the standard kernel) from the extra repo. So, the answer to the situation above (which is the case with my test machine) is that you need to exclude kmod-drbd from extra and that as far as kernel and kmod-drbd come out together, installation is done all automatic. Centos5 Webcam/Video input/output

We have been exploring the possibilities using Centos5 for video. Video and Audio Streaming sounds like great fun. Subject is pretty new to us here and well there was nothing else to do but take the dive. After much time beating our heads against the wall and covering the planet google'ing and hitting the books trying to get a webcam to work. I am wondering if it wouldn't be better just to head back to the windows platform.. What a mess this has become on the open source platform. Grant it could be hardware (ok maybe its me and the kernel not agreeing) as this is just a development system that appears to have kernel compatible hardware. Does anyone out there have any encouraging words, howto docs or knowledge of commercial applications/support that are known to work for Centos5? Much thanks in advance.

LVM problem

Hi, I have CentOS 5.0 which use an old hard disk. And recently I found there are some bad sector on it ... I try to backup my data to other CentOS 5.0 box .... What I did is. I remove the old HD (with bad sector) and install it as a slave IDE on a working CentOS 5.0 ... I try to mount the old HD as /mnt/oldDisk but since it's a LVM, the "mount -t ext3" doesn't work. I'm new to LVM ... could someone help me on this. Also, there is a problem I found. Both HD have the same VG called /dev/VolGroup00 ... server:[root]/dev> pvscan PV /dev/hdb2 VG VolGroup00 lvm2 [76.22 GB / 0 free] PV /dev/hda2 VG VolGroup00 lvm2 [76.22 GB / 0 free] Total: 2 [152.44 GB] / in use: 2 [152.44 GB] / in no VG: 0 [0 ] where the /dev/hdb2 is the old one with bad sector ... and it's unmounted. The /dev/hda2 is the root filesystem of the working CentOS 5.0 Regards KC

Kernel debug info?

Ok, I got blktrace installed, but I also have some blktrace system taps that I want to test out, but it seems I need to have the kernel debug info installed to get systemtap working. Where is the blktrace utility?

I keep reading that RHEL/CentOS 5 supports blktrace, but I can't seem to find the blktrace/blkparse utilities. Is it that just the functionality is available in the kernel, but the user is left to have to hunt down the latest versions of the utilities on the net? Help with External USB drive on RH/Centos 5

Another issue to tackle - I have an external 1 TB drive (2 500GB on a RAID). When I plug it into the server, it sees, via /var/log/messages, that a USB device was plugged in, but that's it. fdisk -l doesn't see it. dmesg doesn't do much, either. It is a Western Digital My Book II device. I want to format it and use it for external storage, but can't until I get to it. What is the best way to get to the drive? Thanks. Scott

Problems in x86_64 Centos 5

We upgraded a 64 bit server from Centos 4 to 5 and encountered some strange problems. Tcsh segfaulted irregurarily and emacs gave irregurarily strange error messages about regular expressions. Both problems disappeared when a 32-bit version was installed instead of the 64-bit. Ldconfig still occasionally segfaults. 64-bit servers where Centos 5 was installed from scratch have no problems. It is like there were some sort of remnant of the previous OS, but I can't figure out where. Dear All, Salam!!! Well i am using CentOS release 4.3 (Final). From the start i installed the CentOs plus kernal; CentOS (2.6.9-42.0.8.plus.c4smp) I was facing the problem, that is system poweroffs, as this was happening randomly, but always found this problem in the night or even early morning. Also i assure you that system and all applications work normally in the office timings as i use to work on the machine and no problem can be seen, problem always occured in the night or in morning means after office timings. I checked; less /var/log/dmesg it says BIOS Corrupt. ACPI-0584: *** Warning: Type override - [DEB_] had invalid type (Integer) for Scope operator, changed to (Scope) I changed the kernel to; 2.6.9-34.ELsmp Well, system poweroffs too yesterday night, but this time no BIOS error in "dmesg" and second warning was there still; ACPI-0584: *** Warning: Type override - [DEB_] had invalid type (Integer) for Scope operator, changed to (Scope) I am not able to figure out the problem, if any one can help me???? Restrict User on Sending Mail

I search from google on how to restrict user from sending mail and I did trial and errors for three days already but to no success. What I want to do is to restrict some user in sending mail while some unrestricted user will send mail to internet and intranet. I am able to restrict outside address (i.e. gmail, yahoo) to not send mail on restricted users but the vice versa I can not do. Is there anybody here that have experience in doing so. Please help. By the way, I am using Postfix on top of CentOS 4.5. NIS binding probs w/Firewall and SELinux

I have RHEL5 Server originally configured and installed by me with Firewall enabled, but passing through NFS, Samba, and SSH. I then disabled SELinux. As you all likely recall, I had configured a test environment to get samba and nfs/nis up and running. I got it going, and recently brought it to a production server. After modifying the files on the production server and rebooting, I'm getting the long pause of the server trying to bind to my yp domain, then failing. When I finally was able to log in, SELinux warned me that I could get past the ypbind problem by issuing a command, which I did. I then restarted ypbind, and got a delay/timeout again. I'll check the log files tomorrow for any further hints. Is there a file I can edit to ensure SELinux is disabled? The system was initially installed with SELinux Enabled, then disabled later by me. In the meantime, I did find http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-9-Manual/security-guide/s1-ser… and will see if that may help. I think once I get past beyond the security issues, yp will work/bind fine. Thanks for any help/insights. Scott

Hi, CentOS seems to be doing really well in the hosting business these days, and even for people who would normally have used Windows or OSX on the hosting previously, are now looking at using CentOS. And I thought it would be nice to have a section on the wiki about exactly why that is. Not having any direct connection with the hosting business I was wondering if people here could help me out a bit and let me know why they think CentOS is good / bad as a platform in this market segment. I suppose that would include dedicated hosting, VPS hosting, Shared / Virtual hosting, and even high performance grid hosting that a few people seem to be offering these days. Random Reboots

Hello, I am noticing that my server is randomly rebooting,(since i have keeping an eye on it, the server has rebooted two or three times in the last week before this i am not sure how long this has been going on) has anyone else experience any troubles with kernel 2.6.9-55.0.2.ELsmp. I am going to try to use the previous kernel to see if i still having these problems but still wondering if i am only one that is having this creep up on. my other question where can i look (logs, files, Directories) or something to install to see what is causing these reboots. thanks for all your wise wisdom. Sony LIB-81 & Bacula on CentOS?

I'm wondering if anybody has any experience running bacula with a Sony LIB-81 tape library preferably on CentOS? A bit more specifically I'm looking at either a LIB-81/A4 or a LIB-81/A5 and switching to bacula because we are starting to need something more robust than simple tar/dump for backups. CentOS 5 - base kernel vs. centosplus for XFS

I notice that the same versions of kmod-xfs and xfsprogs etc. are in both the extras and centosplus repositories for centos5. Is there any particular reason to use the centosplus kernel if what I'm primarily interested in is XFS filesystem support? I presume that if I am using the plus kernel, then I must use the plus versions of kmod-xfs etc., but I'm wondering whether I need the plus kernel in the first place.

centos 5 and cpuspeed

In older version of centos there was cpuspeed -d running that controlled current speed. In centos 5 it is set for on demand and cpuspeed is not running. I can startup cpuspeed and send it a signal SIGUSR1 to go full speed. This works. However, What is the correct or prefered method to control the cpuspeed in centos 5? THere are times when I want to tell the machine to go full speed and other drop back. THanks, Jerry

Centos 5 pam system-auth changes?

Can someone explain the changes in the system PAM setup for Centos5 vs. earlier verions? I have servers configured to use SMB authentication against a Windows domain controller so I don't have to deal with separate passwords. That still works the same for users that actually have local accounts. However, on some machines I also build the mod_auth_pam module for apache and use an /etc/pam.d/httpd file like: #%PAM-1.0 auth required pam_stack.so service=system-auth account required pam_permit.so The 'account' line is supposed to let anyone in, even if they don't have any local account info so everyone with a domain login/password can access the password protected web pages. On Centos5, apache authentication with mod_auth_pam still requires a local account. I think this entry in /etc/pam.d/system-auth may be the problem: auth requisite pam_succeed_if.so uid >= 500 quiet Does that mean pam is going to fail if it can't find account info during the auth phase? How can I make apache use all the system-auth ways to check a password without necessarily needing a local account? rpmforge checksum errors

Almost each time I want to use rpmforge with yum I get a "Metadata file does not meet checksum" error. Yum usually has to try at least five mirrors before it succeeds, sometimes it doesn't find a mirror with a useable file. This is with CentOS 5. Is this a known issue with rpmforge lately? Hi all, We have a debain system which is running ldap, apache with vhosts from ldap, ldap dns, mysql. so what i am trying to do is migrate the web server to a new machines planning to run centos 4 runing services 1) web server 2) mysql i have done some research on web a found in order to run apache with vhosts from ldap the module needed is mod_vhosts_ldap(correct me if wrong or aby thing else needed) but having a look at this post http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=9601&forum=33 and haven't found any successfull implementation of vhosts_ldap. Can any one please point me in the right direction if i can implement Centos with apache and vhosts from ldap running on a different server. any help is much appreciated cheers phani.

vsftp and "nopriv_user=ftpsecure" question

I am a bit confused as to how this works. I created a local unpriveleged user (with /bin/nologin shell). i uncommented the line containing nopriv_user=ftpsecure and restarted vsftp. I am confused as to what is supposed to happen. Shuld the daemon /usr/sbin/vsftpd be run as root or should it be ftpsecure? Or is the account only used to login to transfer files? dvb modules not in CentOS plus kernel for target=i686

I'm just trying to setup my hauppauge nova-T freeview card under Centos 5. It works on the same hardware under CentOS 4.x using the CentOS plus kernel. Having installed the latest CentOS Plus kernel for CentOS 5.0 (2.6.18-8.1.8.el5.centos.plus) I've found that various kernel modules are missing- specifically dvb_core cx88_dvb and cx22702 that were used by my system under CentOS 4.x I've downloaded the srpm and had a bit of a hack. I note with interest that the source file kernel-2.6.18-i686.config has the line "# CONFIG_DVB is not set" whereas in kernel-2.6.18-ia64.config it is switched on: with CONFIG_DVB=y and there is also CONFIG_VIDEO_CX88_DVB=m amongst various other references to DVB in there. Does anyone know the background to this- do the DVB modules fail to build under i686 and are therefore deliberately turned off? I guess I may have a hack at the config file and then leave my machine to do some serious rpm building. -- Cheers, Tony

Promise VTrak and CentOS 5

We're having a problem with Linux and/or the SCSI controller failing to access an external RAID device. Components are: SuperMicro 6025B-TR+V CentOS 5.0 with yum update as of a week or two ago (kernel 2.6.18-8.1.8.el5) Promise Vtrak M310p Adaptec 29320 LPE -- aic79xx module Sometimes this fails on the initial device probing (before the kernel even begins to boot); sometimes the device is recognized ok and then we get a failure later on in the boot sequence (and then the device disappears). RedHat Linux is in the compatibility list for that Adaptec card, and the card is listed as compatible with the Promise VTrak. We were able to get this combination to work by giving up on the Ultra320 setting and dropping back to 160 in the controller setup, but if anyone has suggestions or info it would be appreciated. xfs 0.4-1 kernel modules CentOS 4/5

Is anyone else having difficulty with the kmod-xfs-*0.4-1* rpms from the centosplus repositories? For several years I have used a patched anaconda to get xfs file systems into the initial install for non-root file systems. With the 0.4-1 rpms, The subsequent reboot immediately reports file system xfs errors, and the system is unusable. I'm finding this with both CentOS 4 and CentOS 5. A rebuild of the old kernel-module-xfs* rpms (the version 0.2-1 rpms) for CentOS 4 for the new kernel (55.0.2.EL) works fine. I've tried both the standard kernel (with rebuilt 0.4-1 rpms), and the centosplus kernels for CentOS 4. I haven't yet tried to rebuild the 0.2-1 xfs modules with CentOS 5. Maybe a little off-topic. But using cpan, I tried to install IO::Compress::Base 2.006. I already had 2.005 installed. For the life of me, I couldn't get it to upgrade. It finally occurred to me to download the ".tgz" file, and install it that way. That worked. But does anyone have any hints on how to force cpan to upgrade? I even tried the "upgrade" command, and that didn't work. === Al

SysVinit guidance, please

I have experienced a couple of power failures since installing CentOS 5, both while I was working on the system. The first time, several weeks ago, I thought there was some "feature" that I had never seen before but couldn't really put my finger on it. The power came back on after a few seconds and I never missed a beat. I also shrewdly forgot about the anomaly that I had almost noticed. I had a real power failure 2 days ago and tried to be more observant. What had gotten my attention earlier is that the once-familiar banner displayed on about everything except my room's ceiling was missing. After some red herrings and blind alleys (hey, you don't have to worry about mixed metaphors when you're an illiterate old coot!) I decided that the missing banners and the fact that the power was killed while a graphical page was displayed was what I saw. Anyhow, it seems that these extinct banners were a function of the /bin/shutdown routine in SysVinit because banners happen in CentOS 4.x whether the shutdown command is issued by fingers or by a UPS monitoring daemon. And I have since found that they're gone from CentOS 5, no matter how shutdown is invoked. After all of this, my question boils down to one of replacing the current SysVinit package, SysVinit-2.86-14.i386.rpm with the one from CentOS 4.x, SysVinit-2.85-34.3.i386.rpm Would that be courting disaster?

Hard-set network via ifup scripts...

Anyone know off the top of their head the "right" way to hard set a link automatically to 100Mbps Full Duplex, etc using the ifup or ifcfg files? Don't see options in the scripts that might cover this, but maybe there's a more elegant way to do it than to do something in rc.local or hack up the ifup files myself... Ray

Hi. I want to make a snapshot from a logical volume and noticed that there must be enough free disk space in the volume group. Actually there is no free disk space left. How do i shrink online /var without losing any data or restore from backup? I do not have physical access to the server. NIS/Samba update

My test setup consists of Enterprise 5 server running NIS and Samba, and dual-boot XP and CentOS 5 clients. On my test setup, I'm able to create new samba accounts and change samba passwords with no problems. NIS still gives me problems, though. I am unable to change passwords no matter what. Also, ypwhich on the client returns localhost. I have reviewed everything, including configs of other networks that are live, and cannot figure out where the problem is. I believe that once I can password changed effortlessly on the NIS side, I can implement this on the live system. Until NIS account passwords can be changed at-will, this setup won't go to production. So, what might I be missing? Why can't I change passwords? Also, what would cause the client, when issued ypcat passwd, to not show the newer accounts create by the server, even after a /var/yp make has been issued? Both client and server have been rebooted many times. Thanks. Scott

Performance Issues

My apology for cross posting We have a DELL6850 with 8Gbytes of memory, four 3.2Ghz CPU's , perc 4 raid controller, with fourteen 300Gbyte 10Krpm disk on a powervault 220s, And a powervault 124T LTO-3 tape systems on a separate 160Mbyte/sec adaptec SCSI card. The disks are configured as two 2Tbyte raid 0 partitions using the perc 4 hardware. The problem is - reading from the disk, and writing to the tape is pathetically slow. The specs say I should get around 80Mbyte/second - in reality - is about 500 Kbytes/second Writing just to tape, using /dev/zero as input and dd to write, I can get up to 60Mybte/second, indicating that the tape drive and scsi card is functional from a hardware perspective. Since I can read and write data to the disks - I assume that they are functional. The files are 80Mybtes for the minimum size that I am writing to tape. DELL Support hides behind the fact that CENTOS is not a supported OS, But RED HAT is - so switch to it, so DELL can get RED HAT Support involved. And the fact that Rocks is a modification to an unsupported OS.... I have tried using various block size in tar from 256 to 8192 - with minimal success. Does anybody have any experience on setting the OS/Kernel parameters to utilize the hardware at something more then a snails pace? Or Suggestions on what I could test and/or try? Or Is there a standard disk / tape IO test package that could test the speed/performance of the disks and /or tapes? Thanks for your help Dan A. Dansereau

RAID + LVM Addition to CentOS 5 Install

Hi All, I have what I believe to be a pretty basic LVM & RAID setup on my CentOS 5 machine: Raid Partitions: /dev/sda1,sdb1 /dev/sda2,sdb2 /dev/sda3,sdb3 During the install I created a RAID 1 volume md0 out of sda1,sdb1 for the boot partition and then added sda2,sdb2 to a separate RAID 1 volume as well (md1). I then setup md1 as a LVM physical volume for volume group 'system'. I left the sda3,sdb3 partitions available for future use. Next I created swap, /, /usr, /var, etc. logical volumes in the system volume group and continued with this install as normal. Everything went fine. I was able to use the system, reboot, etc., without problems. I then discovered that I needed more space in my /var volume than was available in the system volume group. So, I created another RAID device, /dev/md2 (using sda3,sdb3), and created an LVM physical volume on top of that. Finally, I extended the system physical volume to contain this new physical volume and expanded the size of the /var volume. This worked fine, but on reboot I get a ton of errors from LVM saying that volume with id xxxx-xxxx-xxxx... was not found and the system automatically reboots. This seems to happen for all volumes, not just the ones I changed. This error even happens for a separate volume group (called 'extended') that is on a separate set of disks and was existing prior to the CentOS 5 install. Any idea on some step I missed? I know things are still fine on the disks, as when I boot with the CentOS DVD with the 'linux rescue' option all RAID & LVM volumes are available for use. network driver corruption? Interface disappeared

Hello, I've got a very unusual network interface issue on centos5. I'm setting up a router box, with two network interface cards, the first gets it's information from a dhcp server, the second is statically configured. A SIG is a smaller group within the CentOS project that focuses on a small set of issues, in order to either create awareness or to focus development along a specific topic. The Virtualization SIG has the following goals: - Discussing, documenting and implementing methods to optimize virtualization performance. - Improvement and maintenance of virtualization support in CentOS. - Assisting in building ready-to-run images for common virtualization technologies, and development of installable CentOS media for virtualization platforms. - Work closely with providers of virtualization products, to see how we can accomodate use of their products with CentOS. - Maintenance of virtualization-related documentation in the CentOS Wiki. - Maintenance of the centos-virt mailing list. This list is used for discussing virtualization of and on CentOS, as well as discussion of SIG-related matters.
