i8042_panic_blink conflict with legacy interrupt from devices.

MySQL admin GUI

Hi all, I'm looking for a mysql admin GUI tool. Currently I use [root@correo ~]# rpm -qi mysql | grep Version Version : 4.1.20 Vendor: CentOS and phpMyAdmin. I've seen the MySQL Administrator GUI tool proovided by MySQL AB is only available for MySQL 5.x series, and there is not CentOS package anyway (yum list *mysql* don't shows any MySQL admin GUI available). ¿What MySQL admin GUIs have we currently?

Thanks Johnny. My Slapd are now running after start thru service start command. One of the reason why the daemon is dying before is that the dbd database was corrupted probably by sudden power off due to lose power socket connection. I follow your advise and now enable logging thru it. Backing up the database with slapcat > filename ... and after making sure that "filename" is OK, removing all the files in /var/lib/ldap/ and using slapadd -l filename to restore can fix database issues. you can also use slapcat > filename ... edit slapd.conf to change from ldbm to bdb database type ... create a DB_CONFIG file in /var/lib/ldap/ and then do slapadd -l filename you need to chown all files to ldap.ldap in /var/log/ldap/ prior to restarting ldap. 2. look at the man pages for slapd_db_recover and slapindex and use those if you database is not good. 3. setup a test machine and play with slapcat and slapadd to get the hang of it first with the slapcat output file. 4. Apache 2.2 under CentOS?

We've been going through some growing pains fumbling through porting some custom C modules that used to live under apache 1.3 into the 2.0 spec, even though none of us really considers ourselves a 'C developer'. We've basically got them all working now under the 2.0 API, and the question was posed about whether or not we should consider attempting to upgrade everything to run under httpd-2.2. I noticed the httpd2 port is only 2.0.53 under CentOS, and I was wondering why that is? Is there a 2.2 port? Is there plans to do one? Was it tried and found that there are significant obstacles in the way of getting 2.2 to run under CentOS 4.4? Is there a port of 2.2 planned for 5.0? Is it a question of resources, and should we undertake it, do you guys want the resulting i686 RPM's? Comment Karanbir? Israel Hello - just my school of hard nocks experience, and running several clusters - from the small 2 dual cpu boxes, to my largest of 64 dual cpu boxes. internet wireless network requirements

I currently am using CentOS 4.4 desktop computer. What would I need to recieve an internet signal from a wireless router that is connected to an Apple computer that is located upstairs? I am in the basement less than 150 feet from the Apple computer. machine with many filesystem errors

I have a machine with many file system errors. I booted into rescue mode - I tried to run "e2fsck -p /dev/hda1" but it says something about inconsistency and cannot run with -p. So then I just run "e2fsck /dev/hda1" and I have to answer MANY fixes with a "y". How can you just tell it to fix it and dont ask? I'd hate to say how many 'y' I have answered. The filesystem is ext3, I was surprised this even happened. Jerry

centos version numbers

Hi, I am running centos 4.2 version on my server. The /etc/redhat-release file lists centos 4.4 (final). In my Plesk server administration it also shows centos 4.2. I need to upgrade plesk and am suppose to have centos 4.3 to do this upgrade. In the past I have run "yum update" and the OS was always updated to the next version but this no longer works on my server. When I try yum update or yum upgrade there is nothing to update. I have checked some of the files from the centos mirror site for version 4 and it seems I have the same versions on my server. http://mirror.centos.org/centos/4/os/i386/ So would I have the most recent centos version? Machine all of a suddens freezes. Any suggestions?

This is a A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard with a AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+ Processor. It freezes and cannot be accessed from the network. Keyboard/mouse/display, everything just stuck. It had an uptime of 17 days after I re-connected all cables and boards after a similar crash. My feeling is, this must be a hardware related problem. I inspected the logs under /var/log, but nothing. What would be the best approach to debug this problem? What can be the most likely cause? Or should I just accept it (it's a single user desktop machine). The machine has FC4 installed. Is there a chance that it becomes more stable with Centos (as said, I actually don't suspect the OS). For new machines I started installing Centos (and I'm happy with it, especially the fact that my EDA software vendors support it well). I monitor the machine with Zabbix, but no weird things there. Just before the freeze the machine had a processor load of 1 running a user simulation. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks, Theo

Temperature could indeed be the case. The last time it happened was during heavy load. The fans are spinning, that I checked already. I will add temperature monitoring as well to the logs. Dirt could be, but this machine is not even a year old. I'll check the CPU cooler assembly. Entourage X and Sendmail STARTTLS on CentOS 4.4

I have a user who has Mac OS 10.4.8 with Entourage X. The email server is sendmail 8.13.8 and is setup to use STARTTLS on a CentOS 4.4 system. It appears from everything I have googled that only Entourage 2004 will properly function with STARTTLS. Has anybody any experience with Entourage X ... specifically is there something I am missing regarding the CentOS server setup or are all Entourage prior to the 2004 version indeed broken in regards to STARTTLS? I have just done the usual stuff that seems to work for Thunderbird, Evolution, Outlook, Mac Mail and the latest Eudora. On the sendmail server side: define(`confAUTH_OPTIONS', `A p y')dnl TRUST_AUTH_MECH(`LOGIN PLAIN')dnl define(`confAUTH_MECHANISMS', `LOGIN PLAIN')dnl (purposely not showing the certificate config) On the Entourage X client side: Checked the box "SMTP service requires secure connection (SSL) Checked the box "SMTP server requires authentication Checked the box "Use the same settings as receiving mail server" Entourage X returns an error indicating: "The SMTP server for "MRIC" does not recognize any of the authentication methods supported by Entourage." Can anyone verify that Entourage X does not work with STARTTLS and/or suggest a work around? I am hoping that upgrading to Entourage 2004 is not the only answer. syslog strangeness

I'm setting up a server and noticed syslog has stopped putting messages into secure, maillog, and messages. syslog.conf is stock, and both it and klogd are running. This occurred around the same time I put the IPTables config in the box, but disabling iptables doesn't seem to make any difference. I'm doing things that should generate traffic to those files. Cron jobs have also appeared to stop running as well. Reinstalling the box would be difficult, so any advice would be appreciated on where to look. Thanks

Changing the contents of installation cd so as to include a new kernel

Hi, I have CentOS 4.4 with me. I want to change the default kernel during installation, from 2.6.9 to 2.6.15. I got myself a copy of vmlinuz and initrd.img from the RHEL AS 4.0 installation cd and copied it as vmlinuz-rhel and initrd-rhel.img respectively into the isolinux folder on the CentOS cd. I changed isolinux.cfg so that it would boot into my kernel. I then made a fresh new ISO and tried to boot off it. However, when I boot I get the following error "Cannot find kernel image: vmlinuz-rhel". I cant figure out where the boot loader is looking for vmlinuz and initrd (besides the islinux directory) and if there are any other norms that Im not sticking too. Centos kickstart

Hi, I am using Centos 4.4,on which I created a kickstart file using kickstart configurator ,then I created a bootable cd using mkisofs command and then booted the system using this cdrom.The cd managed to boot and found the kickstart file in the cd but fail to continue with this error message "CD not found.The centos 4.4 server cd cd could not found in any of your cdrom drives".I also found these messages FAT:bogus number of reserved sectors VFS:can not find valid FAT file system on dev hdc Unable to load NLS charset utf8 Can you please advice the way forward Regards, Edwin

Why slapd dying?

I am wondering why slapd in my CentOS 4.4s erver was unable to run. I already configure ldap to start at boot and when I issue command /sbin/service ldap start it is sucessfully started but again when I check the status etheir thru service or by netstat, it was stopped and not exist respectively. Centos 4.4 install on ASUS A8V-VM does not find SATA drives

Yes, I know someone last week asked a similar question (Problem with ASUS P5VD2-X X SATA II) but the only answer I saw on that thread was the equivalent of "I've heard it's bad so I won't do it." Unfortunately, that doesn't help me much. The BIOS does indeed recognise my two SATA hard drives, and I've got the BIOS set to "IDE" (which disables "hardware" RAID but not the SATA but itself). The install routine for Centos, however, does not seem to recognise that the drives are there (or even that the VIA bridge exists via auto search); if I try to manually select it I'm told it found a VIA VT86c100A Rhine-II PCI (via-rhine). Setting to AHCI does not seem to have an effect. I was hoping to use software RAID, and so didn't want to enable RAID on the motherboard. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to either nudge the installation, or configure the hardware, to find the SATA drives so I can configure RAID? This is a NEW install on new drives, so it's not as if I've got an existing configuration I'm trying to augment. Thanks in advance, -Don

Hello Everyone, I'm running a dhcp server on CentOS 4.4. It's providing IPs and remote booting for a number of thin clients. I've recently had problems rebooting a few thin clients. Here is the error I've been seeing: Jan 16 14:16:45 at01 dhcpd: DHCPRELEASE from 00:40:63:e5:71:4f specified requested-address. Jan 16 14:16:45 at01 dhcpd: DHCPRELEASE of 10.1.1.150 from 00:40:63:e5:71:4f via eth0 (not found) Depending on the thin client, the MAC and the IP changes. Otherwise, the errors are all the same. The effect on the thin client end is that it doesn't get an IP, and so it doesn't boot. The usual remedy is to unplug/plug-in the cat5 cable at the thin client, or to move the thin client to another network drop. This has me thinking there's a problem with the cat5 cabling (the office is going through a major renovation). But, I'm not 100% that is the case. It could be a problem with the dhcp server. I don't have easy access to that office - it's remote, and I'm only out there once every few months. It's why I want to make sure it's not a software problem first. At the moment I have no clue what's going on. My searching with google hasn't turned up anything useful. I'd appreciate any comments/suggestions. All, I have a new box. Gigabyte motherboard AM2 sempron 3200+. CentOS installed fine, I rebooted after the install. It booted fine again. I ran yum -y update and now after that on boot it says Initializing hardware Storage network audio done Disabling IRQ #193 and then nothing. just sets there.... Any ideas on that??? Jerry

Dual Heads?

I decided to blow out the FC2 installation I inherited on my workstation when I started here and installed CentOS-4.4-i386. Server side stuff I pretty much have down cold, but getting two heads on two seperate video cards doesn't seem to work for me. I'm using the built in Intel 865/810 card as primary, and an ATI Radeon 9200 PCI card as secondary. Initially, my system bios on this Dell 4600 was set to Auto for which card is primary. That made the ATI card primary. Configuring the 865 card as secondary, and I have the same monitor on both heads, didn't seem to do anything for me. Then, I set the onboard video as primary, went back into system-config-display and configured the ATI card as secondary, logout/login still nothing changed. I'm trying to get it to configure as 'spanning desktops', so I just have twice as much real estate, and ideally can drag in between. Anyone have suggestions? First of all, don't shoot me if I got some things wrong. I personally recommend (without much success :-)) to buy from www.cheeplinux.com (Definite Software), because I believe this is of some help to the CentOS project. At least, to some people involved in it (please correct me if I'm wrong). §1. Anyway, as PayPal is _not_ an option for some countries, donations to CentOS.org can't be done by PayPal. I suggest to add an item "donate to CentOS: GBP 1" to www.cheeplinux.com, the same way Slackware has an item of $1, so you can "buy" as many of these to donate. Moving on: www.cheeplinux.com is by no means "the cheepest", on the contrary. Server Install Eth0 & Eth1 not working

Hi Everyone: I installed CentOS 4.4 on a new Dell 2950 using the server cd. No errors during the installation and no errors on bootup when loading the Eth0 or Eth1 interfaces. I currently have iptables stopped and selinux disabled. The interfaces have been given a static ip (192.168.1.x). the subnet is 255.255.255.0 and the gateway is 192.168.1.1. I can not ping any device on my network including the gateway. I can ping 127.0.0.1 and the 192.168.1.x. After trying to ping another device ifconfig will show that on ifcfg-lo transmit and receive packets of 389 or some other number depending on how many ping packets were sent. Ifcfg-th0 or Ifcfg-eth1 will not show any TX or RX packets. The box was ordered to support RH from Dell. The NIC is an embedded dual port Broadcom NetXtreme II5708 GigabitEthernet NIC. I've replaced all network cables and the ports to where they connect into the switch and even a different switch and it still will not show me any love. Any ideas would be welcome! Thanks Ed

I have a server that is running slowly and I think it's because of my stupidity - it's running CentOS 3.8 I have software RAID level 1 and the mirrored drives are the master & slave on the primary controller and I'm thinking that is my mistake. Hi, I have a EPIA mini-itx board that I have been running Fedora 4 on. I want to install CentOS 4.4 on it since FC4 is no longer supported. The install goes fine but when I reboot the machine after the install I get errors like the following: hda:<4>hda: dma_timer_Expiry : dma status == 0x21 There are other errors about not being able to access the disk and eventually the kernel panics. The disk is a 4 gig compact flash. I used a 1 gig chip for FC4 so I know the thing will run from a flash chip. Does anyone have any idea how to get this to work? Is there a way to turn off dma? RHCS on CentOS4 - 2 node cluster problem

Hello fellows, I have a problem with a 2 node RHCS cluster (CentOS 4) where node 1 failed and node 2 became active. That happened already last year and due to holidays the customer didn't recognize it. The cluster is just a failover for Apache and has no shared storage space. Customer now saw the situation, tried to fix it by rebooting node 1, which then failed to come back up. As service ccsd started but couldn't get full cluster information the followup service cman hangs forever - bootup hangs in this state. Omitting cluster service starts at boot time by being selective (boot parameter confirm) brings up the box. ccsd starts up (by service or by hand and with parameter -n), but syslogs that it fails to get cluster infrastructure information. So the cluster is in inquorate state. Anyone experienced with the RHCS knows whether I can avoid switching down node 2 and the Apache service for which the cluster runs? Documentation (manual and FAQ) is silent about this. I verified that there is no network / NIC problem. How to get the 2 node cluster back into quorate state? Thanks for helping. Cheers Alexander

VMWare GSX Server and CentOS

Has anyone had experience (good or bad) with VMWare GSX Server running CentOS as a VM under high load? Here is the situation. We are planning on rolling out some new boxes to replace an existing box. Currently this box (Sun V860) is running web services, database services, mail for students, and is an instructional box for compiling code, and web scripting among other things. We are planning on doing one of two things, either using VMWare and splitting up the services or using Solaris Zones. The box(s) has to be able to access data stored on the SAN (Fiber Channel HBA's). The boxes(VM's), or Zones would be split up accordingly: Database box: Oracle, Postgres, and MySQL Mail: Sendmail, POPS, and IMAPS (roughly 25,000 mailboxes) Web: Apache, PHP, mod_ssl Interactive Logins: Compilers and such. Any information about any experiences with VMWare and CentOS, under similar load would be helpful. I will probably make this same post on the Sun Solaris Mailing List, and VMWare's forums. Hi all, Usually I work in X environment (XCFE) with extensive use of x terminal; concretely, I use Gnome-terminal. Sometimes I change to root to do some admin tasks. But often it seems a few commands are not availables. The key is in the $PATH value: echo $PATH (in login shell, interactive ): /usr/kerberos/sbin:/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/root/bin echo $PATH (in gnome-terminal, no-login interactive shell): /usr/kerberos/sbin:/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/home/jordi/bin The last path in $PATH variable shows me that the problem would be the gnome-terminal doesn't update correclty the $PATH when I change to root through "su" command. ¿What do you think about? Ignoring DDC settings on Xorg

I am trying to set up a new 1400x900 widescreen monitor, but I just cannot get it to work correctly. The closest I get is 1400x900, which causes lots of vertical blur bands. I have tried with two different machines with i945 and ATi cards, running CentOS 4 and Ubuntu, always with the same result. My investigations indicate that the monitor reports itself to be "1440x900". It also supports 1600x1200 by squashing the pixels together, so it also advertises support for that resolution, which messes things up. According to the documentation I have seen online, disabling DDC (using NoDDC and DCC "off") and setting the correct modeline should work, but it always reverts to 1440x900 (if I am lucky). Any ideas on how to force it to the right resolution? It really is driving me nuts not being able to use the monitor to the native resolution. If you use the vnc server built into X.org you have access even without a logged-in session and I find performance better than using Vino. I just recently set it up on a CentOS 4.4 workstation so I know it works with X.org in that version at least. Problem with rpmbuild

I want to be able to recompile php, so I downloaded the src dvd and did a rpm -i php-4.3.9-3.15.src.rpm After doing that I wanted to check to see if I can recompile it before making changes. So, I went to the SPECS dir and did a rpmbuild -i php.spec It spent a lot of time doing the compile, but at the end there were errors. What am I missing? dumb question: Need to update my GD to include freetype support on CentOS 4.4

Hello, Sorry for what might be a dumb question. I have a CentOS 4.4 machine with GD installed. I tend to prefer doing things via RPM to allow for updating in a easier fashion. I have a php based app that requires Freetype support in GD. This is a live server with many websites on it (although none are using GD at the moment. I am not sure the best/easiest way to get GD updated such that it has Freetype support. I did not install X on this machine as it was not needed. Would installing X be one of the steps I need to take? Thanks for your suggestions. Dale

Switching from Vesa driver to video adapter driver fails

The Vesa driver works fine with CentOS 4.4. I have an NVidia 6200 video adapter. I go to Applications | System Settings | Display | Hardware tab and find my video adapter in the list and set it. The dialog tells me I have to log out for it to take effect, so I duly do that. I then getting a message from a non-graphics screen saying that the attempt to switch to the video adapter failed. When I view why, amidst all the information given is the messages: (EE) No devices detected. Fatal server error: No screens found I am able to switch back to the Vesa driver through the non-graphics screen, and this brings me back to my graphics login and I am once again successfully in CentOS 4.4 using the Vesa driver. Does anybody have any idea what the messages above mean or how I can correct it so it can successfully load my video adapter specific settings ? The NVidia 6200 is definitely on the Hardware tab menu, that is my video adapter, and I have the latest Xorg updates for CentOS 4.4.

problem with adding firebird/interbase support to PHP5

Hi, I'm using CentOS since 4.2 on my server. Now, I need to add support for firebird to PHP. I've installed PHP5 from Centos-contrib or Centos-plus. The firebird2 was installed from sources (./configure && make && make install). I tried to add "--with-interbase=shared,/usr/local/firebird" to php.spec but it doesn't work :(. yum has no updates?

Hi, I haven't updated my centos 4.3 machine in weeks but when I run yum update / yum upgrade no updates seem to be Reading repository metadata in from local files No Packages marked for Update/Obsoletionavailable on the default repo's and dag's repo? Hi, I installed centos-4.4 on x86_64, and I wanted to install nx and freenx from the centos extras. But yum list available '*nx* gives me only yum list available '*nx*' Setting up repositories Reading repository metadata in from local files Available Packages lynx.x86_64 2.8.5-18.2 base Question: How, by using yum, can I install i386-packages or noarch-packages on a x86_64 centos? Any help appreciated. NX problems with centos 4.4

Hi, using centos 4.4, and freenx-0.5.0-10.c4 and nx-1.5.0-1.centos4 on a 8 CPU Amd Opteron system. If I access this system by nxclient-1.5.0 from some workstation (FC6) with Gnome desktop, then after a successful login the X11 windows have no windowmanager frame, so a handling of the X11 windows is very difficult. This effect does not appear when acessing the centos system by xdm. Is this a known issue? All comments are appreciated. Hi; I'm new to the CentOS list and I only have experience with CentOS 4.3/4.4 on desktops. I just installed CentOS 4.4 on a very old Dell Inspiron 3500 laptop. I choose the desktop option and then deleted the kde and gnome packages because I have only 192mb RAM and 4gb disk (total). I'd like suggestions on how to maximize the effective usage of the laptop with CentOS 4.4...as a minimum I want to do secure wireless web browsing. If KDE or GNOME needs more disk/RAM than I have available is XCFE the only alternative to the bleak Motif experience? I don't have any money to get a better laptop or to upgrade the RAM and/or disk at this time. Thanks, Ken Wolcott

Default gateway set incorrectly

I try to setup networking with a fresh CENTOS4.4 installation. Upto now I have 20 installations, most of them FC3/FC4 and RHEL3. I noticed that the default gateway is not setup properly when using Centos. [root@raaf ~]# route Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface 192.168.101.0 * 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 eth1 169.254.0.0 * 255.255.0.0 U 0 0 0 eth1 default 192.168.101.1 0.0.0.0 UG 1 0 0 eth1 Networking is setup done by using dhcp, and this seems to work OK. Problem is however that the gateway should be 192.168.101.2 and not 192.168.101.1 (does not exist). If I manually add the gateway, networking is OK: route add default gw 192.168.101.2 eth1 [root@raaf ~]# route Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface 192.168.101.0 * 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 eth1 169.254.0.0 * 255.255.0.0 U 0 0 0 eth1 default scholekster 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 eth1 default 192.168.101.1 0.0.0.0 UG 1 0 0 eth1 (scholekster=192.168.101.2) If I issue "service restart network". But now my default gateway is added correctly! So is dhclient not used by the networking scripts?? Anyone got an idea of how I could debug this further? The reason I use eth1, is that the machine has two interfaces and is dual bootable. The FC4 installation seems to have a different idea of which adapter should be eth0... Thanks, Theo PS. Broadcast UDP on command line

What command line command is available to broadcast a UDP packet on port 36? I can use a command like "nc -u -l -p 36" to listen to the responses but I can't figure out how to send out the broadcast packet for the devices to say "I'm here" back to me. THanks, Jerry

lm_sensors with k8v se

hi there, i am using k8v se with amd64 3000+. i installed centos 4.4 onto my computer. my computer initially worked very well, but Cool'n'Quiet™ on my computer does not work after installing lm_sensors. it means that the cpu fan is blowing and core voltage is maxmam (1.47v?) 5-beta or 4.4 for a new user?

Hello, I am a Slackware user who's interested in learning CentOS. At this point it is for intellectual curiosity only and not for any real work so the machine need not be 100% stable at this point. It's most probably going to be an installation into VMWare. Given that, I thought I'd wait for 5-beta (mid-Jan'07) and start with that. Will it be possible to upgrade from 5-beta to 5.0? Or would you advise me to start with 4.4? Regards, Patrick

Updating PHP

My version of Centos (4.4) comes with php 4.3.9. Since I run Interbase on the server, I need to recompile the php with Interbase. The only php I have found is 4.4 which I have downloaded and untarred as well as configuring it with Interbase, doing the make and make install. Where I am lost is on having Apache (httpd) use it rather than the 4.3.9 ( http://209.204.172.137:82/testphp.php ). When I do the make install, where does it go? Greetings, A friend of mine is running 3.3 He asked what I thought about going to 4.4 I imagine it is best to backup and fresh install and migrate old configs and data What is the wisdom on the list I remember going from beta 3 to 3 a long time ago. Anyone ever upgrade from 3.x to 4.x without problem and how so? Yum question - RHEL4

Hi this is technically a RHEL4 question but i hope it can be answered here... Does RHEL4 do yum OK ? I kix a lot of boxes and it would be great to run the update after the build automajically rather than running through the up2date registration and using that method. I would also rather not pay lots for satellite server. If i setup my own RHEL repo can i use yum against this? Or any other thoughts/options ? thanks

Default X manager

Hi, I've installed XFCE via yumgroup without problem. If I boot in runlevel 3 and run X with startxfce4 command all works ok too, but if If I start the system in runlevel 5, it seems the X default X manager is always twm. ¿How can I setup the default X manager? Problen with vsftpd and chroot

I'm setting up a local mirror server on a CentOS4 box. I want it to serve files over http, nfs and ftp. I've set this up with the mirrored directories on a separate partition. I've got the http and nfs working but am having some trouble with ftp. I'm using vsftpd as the ftp server. I can log in to the ftp server and get to the pub (/var/ftp/pub) directory. However when I try and go to the mirrored directories below this I get a "can't change directory error. The mirrored directories is a symbolic link to the actual directories on the separate partition. So my question is is vsftpd chrooted to the /var/ftp directory by default and won't follow symbolic links and if so is there any way to change this behaviour. Lost Samba GUI interface

Setting up rsync

About a year and a half ago, someone answered a request on how to set up rsync so that the encryption was automatically setup (wish I knew more about the technical aspects). It has been in use for the time since then and it has been great. Now I have to replace the destination computer and setting up, what I call the encryption part, is the part I have forgotten how to do. This is the command line: /usr/bin/rsync -av -e ssh /home/ 192.168.0.22:/home/ Is there anyone who can translate what I am trying to do? Desktop link for NTFS .htm file type asks for run or display in CentOS 4.4

I created a desktop launcher whose type was a link and pointed to an NTFS file on a read-only ( ro ) partition. When I open the launcher it always asks me whether I want to display or run the file. Of course I want display it and when I click on that button it displays it in my browser, Firefox, correctly. It is neverthless onerous to constantly be asked and have to then click the correct display button rather than Gnome knowing to display it automatically. This appears to be happening because the file on the NTFS has an executable permission set to it because the umask I used in /etc/fstab for the partition was 0222. However when I tried changing the umask to 0333, in order to only have the read bit turned on, after rebooting an attempt to open the file from the launcher fails completely since nothing happens. Is there a solution to this problem, or is this just the way Gnome works in regard to its launchers ?
