Help With Installation to USB Stick

Recently, I was able to create a workable Centos 4.4 "Live USB" on my 1G Lexar Firefly pendrive using the steps in http://linux.web.psi.ch/livecd/usbdisk.html. At the moment, it is doing its job, so I probably won't focus too much more on it. One thing that is annoying, although doesn't cause a problem is that on powerdown and reboot, the cd rom drive ejects - of course, there is no CD in it! I also uncompressed initrd.gz and tried to add them manually - I had no luck with either method. Since I am by no means a Linux expert (my background is in data and voice networking), any and all suggestions and URLs will be appreciated! Mark

ACL Support and Samba

I've been playing with filesystem ACLs and wanted to integrate that with Samba to create a more transparent end user experiance. I have set up and tested a JFS partition with ACL support. I can use getfacl and setfacl with no problems to set permissions as needed. It works great. I compiled Samba with ACL support using the --with-acl configure option. Unfortunately I can't seem to get Samba/Windows to list the full set of permissions that show up with a getfacl. Trying to add two users with two different permissions to a file via Windows, returns an "access denied" message. The listed permissions only show the normal owner/group/other permissions and not the more detailed getfacl permissions that have been set up. If anyone has any hints or suggestions it would be apreciated. Shawn

rpmforge/dag's perl-Apache-ASP

Has anyone actually had any success in installing the perl-Apache-ASP package from rpmforge? CentOS 4 seems to have just the right combination of almost using mod_perl 2 (1.99 before major API changes) to make this extremely hard to get right while staying with somewhat standard packages. I suspect it's in the repo but not actually tested, as I've tried quite a few combinations of using this RPM with the CentOS4 mod_perl and my own mod_perl 2 built using cpan2rpm, as well as my own perl-Apache-ASP.rpm built from CPAN. I've also experienced problems with compiling ePerl into and RPM, mainly due to it's age, but I can probably patch this to get it to build. Suggestions for other solutions with similar functionality are welcome, I'm really just looking for a in-lined perl/HTML solution that provides somewhat respectable performance while altering the actual perl as little as possible (unlike embperl and mason, which each implement a mini-language to varying degrees). -- - Kevan Benson - A-1 Networks

I installed Komposer from .tgz file, since I couldn't find it on any of my repos. It wants to use libpangocairo, but I can't find anywhere willing to give it to me. I did a yum provides libpangocairo, but nobody would own up to having it. Is there somewhere I can download a compatible .rpm? Is there somewhere I can rpm a compatible libpangocairo? large disk volumes with 64bit kernel

I installed 4.4 on a machine that's got two RAID volumes, one of which is a bit over 2.1 terabytes. The installer had no problem. However, fsck does. Commenting out the volume in /etc/fstab, the machine will boot. The machine will mount the volume and use it. Everything seems fine except fsck, which seems, well, fscked. When trying to run fsck, it says: # fsck /dev/sdb1 fsck 1.35 (28-Feb-2004) e2fsck 1.35 (28-Feb-2004) The filesystem size (according to the superblock) is 549346683 blocks The physical size of the device is 12475771 blocks Either the superblock or the partition table is likely to be corrupt! Abort<y>? yes Is there some way to build single volumes larger than 2TB? It should not be a problem with a 64 bit OS (Windows managed to do it on this hardware before I switched it over to Linux). Is there some tuning I need? Any pointers to documents or other useful references would be appreciated. Thanks for any/all help. It looks like postfix is trying to deliver your mail to a directory that is actually a file. I'd troubleshoot that. If you get nowhere with this I would suggest posting your errors (full logs of the event) and configuration (postconf -n output) to the postfix mailing list. alex

Ext2/3 fs and defragmentationn

Hi all, Fewer days ago a CentOS box server suffered a manual and unexpected reset (too large to explain: there are silly people in everywhere). The result was the system did not mount de root (/) partition and the boot process was stopped. I repair it easily: boot from LiveCD (Knoppix in my case), umount root partition and pass the e2fsck utility. Because of that I've used several fs tools and my surprise was the e2defrag utility. Until the present day I think the ext2/3 fs has not defrag problem. But I've used defrag tools in root partition because it was really fragmented. ¿What do you know about this kind of "trouble"? 4.4/64-bit Supermicro/ Nvidia Sata RAID Driver

Hi, I am installing Centos ServerCD 4.4 64-bit on a new Supermicro board, the RAID BIOS looks fine, RAID 5, all 4 Seagate ES 250 GB drives show up as a single array in the RAID BIOS tool, and the OS install phase completes without a hitch. One thing I noticed was that the OS was loading the sata_nv driver and picking up the 4 Sata drives instead of the large RAID5 volume, it should just appear as one big 1TB drive. Usually it should see the RAID and not worry about loading the sata driver per se from what I remember... When the OS install completes and I reboot, I simply get a blinking cursor. On consulting Amax/ Supermicro, they write: ---snip---- Since this Supermicro model was just recently released, it is possible that the drivers on your installation disk are out of date. HP nw8240 xorg failing after update

having had centos running fineon my nw8240 laptop I recently decided to try doing an update, now X wont start up - its keep reporting problems with various gnome libraries missing, if I look in /usr/lib there are some links to files that no longer exist or are different versions i.e. libgnomecanvase-2.so.0 instead of libgnomecanvas-2.so. Is there a simple method of rolling back ? or of getting the ati driver and gnome to work again ? Ian

question on 'VGA in" card

Hi All, Is there a solution under linux that can accept video in from another source and show it but also be able to turn that source off (in an automated way) and show the normal linux console. Then (in an automated way) switch back and show the external source again. So I want to normally be showing an external VGA input, then based on some event switch the monitor output to the normal linux console, then based on another event switch back to the external VGA signal again. mysql issue

[Fwd: Server is overloaded, any tips?]

Yesterday our website was acting a little odd, and i received a few email complaints. Running 'top' showed that we had a very high load average, today the load average is even higher! load average: 13.18, 12.49, 10.48 It is pretty unlikely that our site grew in popularity that quickly, and taking a look at the log file it was saying that a certain directory was not found, when in fact it was just a mod-re-write rule and was not supposed to exist. The website works fine... i am stumped and the error log is getting quite big! Does anyone have any tips on how to find the problem and address it accordingly (quickly)? Many thanks

I sometimes use an example from readline entry in perlfunc(1). This used to work for me, but know (after I upgraded to CentOS) works only if PERLIO=stdio is defined in environment. BIND with ACLs

Can you tell me something on how I can find the solution for this problem? I don't think its a firewall issue, I disabled my Desktop Firewall. On the server I use shorewall, but of course, port 110 is open and it works disabling AntiVir on the client side. The error also occurs when I disable the Server Firewall as well. The error is reproducible on several PCs (I tried 3 PCs). Have you got any hint? Without solving the problem, I have to switch the pop3 server to another one, because this problem is really a crucial one.The only problem is: I like dovecot. :) Moreover I'd like to keep dovecot updatable. Lighttpd setup with rails

Hi Everyone- I am trying to setup lighttpd on a CentOS 4.2 box after having problems with getting it to work on Apache. I am hoping some fresh eyes can see any errors below. The log files are useless as they just say server stop and server start. When I create an app in rails I can see the rails welcome screen, but everything else comes up 404. Hmmm I seem to have a catch22 here. I've found the page at http://www.centos.org/modules/news/article.php?storyid=118 that discusses installing yum-pluging-fastestmirror I quote: "*How do I get this new system?* This system is now live. If you update your system with the normal *yum update* command you will get the new *centos-yumconf* package." The thing is, yum update fails with a string of [errno 4] (socket time outs) and [errno 12] (mirror url timeouts) Can I get the file some other way? I am looking for a free client & server or cross network CD/DVD burning software something like NeroNet available on Windows. Means on the one workstation(FC3) the client software for CD/DVD burning will be installed, through this client software the data to be burned will be passed to the server software for CD/DVD burning installed on the other workstation(Centos4.0) and then the server software will burn the CD/DVD of that data. But every time I run "yum update" it says there's nothing to update. but: rpm -qa | grep -y gnupg reports: gnupg-debuginfo-1.4.2.2-1 gnupg-1.4.2.2-1 so it is installed. Hi, Is there an easy way to obtain statistics of user applications usage: who invoked what; for how long; what resources were used; etc. I am thinking of some kind of a super-ps that will integrate and summarize the usage profile during a long period of time - not just a snapshot. Background: I have a RH 7.3 machine that serves as the central node for a cluster that runs various scientific user applications: mysql, matlab, and various bioinformatics tools. We are considering upgrading the OS (to centos :-), or embedding it in our institute grid. Having detailed information on the usage profile will help us to decide about the strategy, and to implement once decided. linux sockets on centos (slightly off topic)

Hi all, I have a snippit from the linux sockets (below) talking about detecting when a socket is closed on the other end. It says the doing a read() will eventually inform you the socket is ECONNRESET. I am not seeing this I open a socket to the peer. I UNPLUG the peer. I plug back in the peer. all the time I am doing read()'s on linux and I get returns of -1 and errno is EINTR from the alarm() around my read() function. I never get ECONNRESET. Am I missing something in detecting the peer no longer having the socket connection? From Andrew Gierth ( andrew(a)erlenstar.demon.co.uk) AFAIK: If the peer calls close() or exits, without having messed with SO_LINGER, then our calls to read() should return 0. It is less clear what happens to write() calls in this case; I would expect EPIPE, not on the next call, but the one after. If the peer reboots, or sets l_onoff = 1, l_linger = 0 and then closes, then we should get ECONNRESET (eventually) from read(), or EPIPE from write(). I should also point out that when write() returns EPIPE, it also raises the SIGPIPE signal - you never see the EPIPE error unless you handle or ignore the signal. If the peer remains unreachable, we should get some other error.

Hi, what would be a good value for /proc/sys/vm/min_free_kbytes on a Dual-CPU EM64T System with 8 GB of memory. Kernel is 2.6.9-42.0.3.ELsmp. I know that the default might be a bit low. Unfortunatelly the documentation is a bit weak in this area. We are experiencing responsiveness problems (and higher than expected load) when the system is under combined memory+network+disk-IO stress. Anyone using pam_ldap ? need clarifications

Hi list, I'm using a SSH gateway where our users are authenticated against an openldap server. It's working great and the users can also change their password with the 'passwd' command. My problem is that recently I've tested our users's password for weak entries (with john the ripper) and found that all the password changed with 'passwd' and thus pam_ldap where stored in the directory in cleartext form instead of SSHA. I have "password-hash {SSHA}" in slapd.conf and though that means that SSHA hashes was enforced for all stored password. Both servers are Centos 4.4 fully updated and everything came from standard repositories. Is there someone who manage to use pam_ldap and the use of the 'passwd' command result in a SSHA hashed's password in the directory? Thanks, kfx

Cannot install driver under CentOS/ VMware ?

Trying the most basic 'vanilla hello world' kernel driver, install using insmod, and trying in module_init to do a simple kmalloc() fails, kmalloc returns NULL - i.e. cannot allocate memory. The driver loads fine under another non-VM system. Is this a CentOS/VMware quirk ? Does anyone know of a workaround or is it just a fact of life that you cannot use insmod once the system is running ? After all, the 'normal' kernel modules are able to load OK at startup. CentOS 4.4 and ACLs

Hey all, I'm using CentOS 4.4, and want to start doing some work with ACLs (getfacl/setfacl). Unfourtunately, no matter what I do, I get the same error over and over again: setfacl: <filename>: Operation not supported I've tried enabling/disabling the acl and xattr modes on my root partition (the one I'm working on), I've tried moving the file to other directories, rebooting the system after I make the changes... nothing. Right now, the system is set up as follows: /etc/fstab: LABEL=/ / ext3,acl defaults 1 1 % mount /dev/sda5 on / type ext3,acl (rw) ... Should I have a particular kernel module loaded? getfacl seems to work fine, but it may be deferring to the lower-level chmod permissions that are already there. If there is a kernel module to load, I can't tell what it should be, since there are none that have "acl" in their names under /lib/modules/<kernel version>. Please help! Does anyone have information on support for Intel D965-based motherboards for CentOS 4 (i386)? I've got a DG965RYCK that fails a CentOS 4.4 install early on (problems scanning the PCI bus). Question on installing 2.6.18

Hi, I have a need to install 2.6.18 kernel. After I configure, make, make modules, make install (all that is good). The last thing I do is 'make install'. This also modifies grub.conf and adds an entry for my new kernel. However it leaves the old kernel as still the default. Is there a way to have it automatically set my new kernel as the default in grub.conf so when I reboot the new kernel is active. Thanks, Jerry

Hello! I need to get an arcnet device driver up and running. Normally it appears to be distributed with linux, but not installed. So, I need to compile and install it, naturally. So, where is the kernel souce for 2.6.9-42.ELsmp? I can find kernel source for 2.6.9. BTW, I obtained 2.6.9 and tried compiling it, but all I got was *.o files and insmod: error inserting 'arcnet.o`: -1 Invalid module format Seems that the rest of the /lib/modules/2.6.9-42.ELsmp/kernel/drivers/net appear to be *.ko files. Yes, I was able to get SATA working by going to AHCI (my BIOS has the option). However, for the DG965RYCK, as of kernel 2.6.9-42.0.3.EL, I will need to update the ethernet driver, the video driver (for X), and the sound driver(s). And I have still not fully investigated any possible penalties from booting with pci=nommconf (without which I can't boot). YMMV, as always. At this point, I'm going to hold off and see what upstream gets included in 4.5. The fact that fedora works makes me hopeful that the hardware support will work its way into the enterprise product. This IS a "holy war" kind of question! :-) Most people have strong opinions about this topic and tend to be very black and white about "this way is the best!". In the real world, different things impress different employers. Some employers give a lot of credibility to certifications, some don't. If you're trying to get a break into a certain niche, every little bit helps. The RCHE cert does require hands on effort, so it's not looked at as a "paper certification". Your IT background is pretty decent anyway, so it's not like you're really starting from scratch. Especially the Solaris and HP experience is relevant to administering Linux. Btw, I got started with CentOS for the same reason as you. I wanted to pursue the RHCE and couldn't afford to fork out the cash for a Redhat license. (Are you listening Redhat? CentOS is bringing you business because it helps IT people get experience and eventually certification with your product!) Hi All, I'm pretty new to this list and to CentOS, so forgive me if this kind of thing is shunned. I have really enjoyed following some threads on this list and learning what everyone out there is doing with the OS. I actually got started on CentOS when researching how to study for the RHCE without forking out big cash for Red Hat licenses, a donation is coming soon. Anyway, I'm looking to do some part time Linux work (I'll work cheap, possibly free for a non-profit) and would like some suggestions on how others on the list have found odd job work. My goal with this work is to get some resume building Linux experience, help me pass the RHCE exam, and ultimately begin doing contact work or move into a full-time Linux/Unix position. I have two years experience administering HP-UX and Sun Solaris for a University, about 8 years total IT experience, and I've used Linux at home since 1998 or so; I just need some "real-world" Linux experience. I feel confident I can accomplish just about any Linux project using my broad background of experience and learning a little along the way. The main problem I see is that I only have 10-15 hours per week to give this, as I have a full-time IT job as well, so flexibility on time of day/time of week of work is key. Strange issue with device-mapper lib in CentOS

Hello all, a couple of weeks ago I've been installing CentOS 4.2 on a very-old server machine with MSI server board based on Intel GX440 chipset, two Xeons 500Mhz and one 1Gig of RAM. There is an AMI MegaRaid 467 installed as a storage controller, which causes some troubles with installation, as stock CenOS4 install and production kernels doesn't have older megaraid.ko module compiled, but there are a lot of not so very difficult ways to overcome it. After a clean-and-relatively-fast install first of all I had up2date-d it to CentOS 4.4, did some basic initial reconfigurations, turned it off and left it lay around doing nothing. Today its time has come, and I turned it on. While booting I've seen a message "Segmentation fault" just after a line about "Starting up LVM2". That's confused me a bit. Logged it as root, typed vgdisplay, got a normal output and a message "Segmentation fault" after it. lvdisplay performed just the same - normal display of all LVM logical volumes and a "Segmentation fault" at the bottom. Next step was obvious: # rpm -Va Huh, here we are. There's a bunch of RPMs with binary files in them changed since they've been installed. Just looks like it's a virus job I thinked. But, wait! That's very strange! This server has been laying around turned off and doing nothing since the moment I've done the installation of the system. There were NO possible time for a virus to infect a system. Well, in any case, I took on my special LiveCD with a ClamAV on it and a RamDisk for freshclam to store updated virus databases, booted it, mounted possibly infected system and checked it with clamscan. There were NO viruses found. Well, I though that this might be caused by a faulty SCSI disk in array, that distort the data that's being written to it, instead of informing host that there's a bad block here. Ok, that's easy to check. Let me go to the single mode, reinstall distorted RPMs using rpm -Uvh --replacepkgs, do a couple of 'sync's, remount all filesystems with -O ro,sync, and check installed rpm's with a rpm -Va. Headed on, done all above, got nothing. After a reinstall all files became correct, and LVM tools got back to a correct behavior without "Segmentation fault". Hmm... that's strange, I thought. Well, at least ATM I've got a correctly functioning system without viruses. Huh, well, now it's time to reboot and check how does it performs. I'm going to do unattended reboots in future, it should reboot seamlessly without excess questions. # shutdown -r now Reboot went smoothly, but just as LVM2 was initializing, I've got "Segmentation fault" message again! Damn! What's wrong?! Logged in, rpm -Va - gotcha! Again, device-mapper RPM was broken. Well, let's reinstall it again, sync, remount root readonly, check with rpm -V device-mapper. Done that - all seems to be ok, no output from the rpm -V = files are intact. Rebooted again. Run: [root@omega MegaMgr5.20]# rpm -V device-mapper ..5..... /lib/libdevmapper.so.1.02 That's it. After each and every reboot I've got this file corrupted. Looks like it's not a faulty HDD trouble, and it's not a faulty RAID controller. Most likely something corrupts this file during shutdown process or during boot process. Haven't got enough time today to investigate more deeply, going to continue with it tomorrow. I'm considering building a network gateway using a Via EpiaCN10000EG motherboard like seen here: http://www.logicsupply.com/product_info.php/cPath/79/products_id/444 I've heard that this is a pretty recent mobo and drivers for it are in Ubuntu but that a 2.6.9.x CentOS kernel might have troubles with it. dovecot disconnect(s)

Hi, I've got a problem with dovecot regarding a pop3 proxy issue. When I configure a dovecot server to do just plain pop3 I can telnet from a windows box without any flaw, but as soon as the client uses some pop3 proxy (for example outlook uses avira antivir Mail-AntiVirus Protection), queries to that server fail. A log line looks like this: pop3-login: Dec 05 22:53:24 Info: Disconnected [::ffff:84.165.54.42] Moreover with the proxy activated, a telnet to port 110 (pop3) is not working properly, the cursor stays right behind "+OK dovecot ready." and as soon as I enter a character, the server rejects this character as an unknown command. As soon as I turn off the Antivir-Proxy the telnet to port 110 runs flawlessly and I can login. Is there any fix for that? Or did I misunderstand something? Also, you can configure it to run with TCP over port 443, which makes it much more likely that a network you're connected to is going to allow the connection out. It should talk to the other end. /var goes read-only

This is an issue that I have been having with one of our production servers for a couple of months, just out of no where /var goes to read only. There aren't any errors that show up in /var/log/messages nor dmesg, I checked to make sure that the drives on error option is set to continue and there isn't anything as far as I can tell wrong with the disks. Also there is plenty of disk space. I finally fixed my drive error problem. This has been going on quite a while. I've posted before with no success on getting this fixed. I was getting these errors. The output actually had a link that advised and directed me to a link to upgrade my firmware, which looks to have fixed it. My home system has been hacked. It's running CentOS 4.4, and I recently added an account to play around with Samba shares to back up PCs here at home. I had set a weak password for that account and forgot to disable it after my testing. I could hear the disk being accessed constantly, so I knew something was up. I disabled the port forwarding to my CentOS box on my Linksys router (only ports 22 and 80 were being forwarded). After some poking around, I found the following files in the directory "/var/tmp/ /.. In need of assistance... (part 2)

Hello, i wrote in a week ago and was overwhelmed by the response, but maybe i need to be more specific. We need to get a rock solid backup system in place, basically a self-running system that would be set up once and then periodically checked on. We have 2 Windows machines (NT4, 2003 Server) and 3 Linux Machines (Centos 4.4, Centos 4.3 and Red Hat 3). Two machines are hosted locally (Centos 4.4 & NT4). We have a Dell Server that just needs new hard drives and that could be setup to be a backup server, but we want to be sure that we have off-site backups of the local machines (so we could ship the machine to a hosting facility once it is set up). We would like to have the ability to have a rolling archive of about 30 days. Since we are a publishing company, our archives are important but not critical to our daily operations and they don't change. The current projects are changed daily and need to be archived daily. We are open to the options that were suggested a week ago, but we are thinking that we need someone to implement it. This is very important and not something that should be left to someone who is 'learning as he goes'. We need a clear and solid plan along with someone who could execute it. Please let me know of any people who are in/around San Diego, California and could help us- or someone who could accomplish the task flawlessly with a remote connection. another iscsi question

I have an iscsi array that I'd like to mount and share using NFS and I need it to happen without user intervention on a reboot. In the default configuration this doesn't seem to work very well because the iscsi intiator isn't started until after the network is up (obviously) and by that time all local filesystems are mounted. I can't mount the partitions in rc.local because NFS has already started. Does a tidy way to handle this already exist, or do I need to do something like hack /etc/init.d/iscsi to mount and unmount iscsi partitions as necessary? James

kde cant mount cdroms on users with nfs home

I can't mount the cdrom when the user account has an nfs home directory. It works fine on the gnome side with the same user. It also works fine if I create a brand new local account, with no nfs mounted home directory. This error is affecting all users on all computers; not just one account. The one thing in common is that they all are using nfs mounted home directories and that CentOS is the distro. Older systems that are still using fc3 dont have this issue. Any ideas? Suggestions?

If you download the iso images to an NFS exported directory you can burn only the first CD and boot it with 'linux askmethod' at the boot prompt, then select NFS as the install method and fill in the server and path info. Once it starts the install it will take care of all the loopback mounts for you so you don't have to wait around and swap CDs. AMD 64 single core and vmware

...months ago, I started using vmware w/this same setup and, I think it was Aleksandar Milivojevic and directed me to a link to a white paper or whatever w/the tweaks to get me running right. I have issues of typematic and time sync. I believe that the tweaks actually took away the power saving features of the cpu and set the processor at one steady speed. I thought I saved that page somewhere but w/all the confusion and have really been away from this for the most part for months now, I cannot find that page and I have been googling forever on my own to try to find it w/no luck. If anyone could direct me back to it it would be appreciated thx John Rose

Ideally, I'd put a CentOS in the CD of the target computer, I boot it off of that CD, and then the rest is done over my network and with the server. Has anyone done that and published it? Sorry for the top post, but yahoo is dumb. Maybe its just me though... Yes, we are running with iSCSI filesystems mounted. CentOS 4.4 iscsi-initiator-utils-4.0.3.0-4 GFS Performance using iozone (I don't have the test run data available, but it was acceptable given the redundancy and concurrent write operations GFS gives us) testing was good on the test systems, but we haven't done testing on the final production systems yet. I'm waiting to resolve mounting the third iSCSI partition properly on 2/4 of the cluster nodes before running an all-out test. Hi list, CentOS 4.4 connecting to Promise M500i iSCSI disk array. 2/4 servers connect fine with iscsi-initiator-utils-4.0.3.0-4. win32:tenga on samba share

I have a box set up for home use, but it was used as a massive file share for a bunch of friends. I only allowed 3 accounts to this share with password. I believe over time someone loaded a file that had the win32:Tenga virus on it. I usually clean the files and download what I need but I leave the files on the Share. I have lots of directories and files on this. I have been using Trend Micro from a remote windows box to clean them periodically but for some reason it rears it ugly head every once and a while. Large disk support

I have a 3.5 TB RAID 5 Array through a 3ware 9590SE 8 port card, and am running into what seems like quite a lot of problems trying to get the system installed correctly. The system is a running dual Opterons with 2 GB of RAM, and I'm attempting to install through the x86_64 ServerCD. First, grub refuses to install on the disk, as it's too large. I can get around this though by booting Fedora Core 6 in rescue mode and running grub, as it can deal with the disk size correctly. This might only be working when I attempt installs that don't utilize as much of the array as possible though (100 MB /boot, 2GB swap, 10Gb /, the rest left unallocated). Secondly, there seems to be a problem using msdos disk labels with large partitions, and I can't seem to find any solutions to this in the manuals or on the net. GPT labels are offered as a solution to this but only for Itanium systems. Am I missing some obvious solution to this? Are there some best practices for dealing with large disks anyone can share that may save me problems now or later? I'm open to suggestions, as all I've encountered so far are problems. -- - Kevan Benson - A-1 Networks

Hi All, first time post so please excuse any blunders We are specifying two servers using supermicro X7DBE+ MB and want to add on a SAS controller for Raid 10. We want to use the CentOS 4.4 X86_64 distro. We are currently considering an Intel CC SRCSAS144E SAS Raid Controller for the servers using 4 Fujitsu 147 GB SAS HDD, and a Adaptec SASC RAID 4805 8-port for the server using 6 Fujitsu 147 GB SAS HDD. LiveCD problem on IBM BladeCenter remote console ?

I've got a IBM BladeCenter with its integral TCPIP KVM and centos and stuff running on various blades, we use this mostly for software testing purposes in a small development group. i wanted to boot the liveCD so I could try and recover some files from a totally screwed up system (disk got fsck'd beyond what I feel comfortable repairing)... so I map an ISO image of the CentOS 4.4 live CD on the virtual CD drive function of the blade chassis, and reboot my broken blade on it. getting fatal errors from the boot that it can't find the CD drive. screen capture with it crispy. http://hogranch.com/files/Bitmaps/remotescreen1.png the regular CentOS Server CD was boot fine on these blades not long ago. there -is- an oddness where sometimes the virtual CD shows up as a second SCSI CD drive to the target.

The room at your disposal will be H.2214 (capacity is 100 seats), - - Saturday: 14:00 -> 19:00 - - Sunday: 09:00 -> 18:00 Note that on Saturday, it is not possible to use the room before 14:00 as university courses are being held in all rooms until then. I would advise starting your schedule at 14:15 as you most probably won't be able to enter before 14:00. For that reason, we will end at 19:00 on Saturday (instead of 18:00). Please take care of having everyone out of the room for that time, as we staff members have a lot of work to do on Saturday evening, so throwing everyone out will be your job ;) Wireless network will be provided in each DevRoom.
