The upstream provider has started a new channel called fastrack. It is detailed here (see the whole thread): https://www.redhat.com/archives/nahant-list/2006-April/msg00001.html CentOS will also build the fastrack SRPMS. We have created separate repositories in CentOS-3 and CentOS-4 called fasttrack. (I know the spelling is different, that is by design. We don't want to use the name of the upstream provider's program. Same as our use of CSGFS for Cluster Suite / Global File System, and not the upstream acronyms.) The purpose of the CentOS-FastTrack repo is to provide Bugfix and Enhancement updates for people who choose to do these updates BETWEEN the point releases. For example, there are currently 7 SRPMS that have been built for the CentOS-4 fasttrack repo ... they are here: http://mirror.centos.org/centos/4/fasttrack/SRPMS/ These changes (or maybe newer ones for those packages) will be rolled into the CentOS-4.4 when the time comes. What fasttrack will do is level out the update cycle for those who want to do bugfix and enhancement updates that way ... the packages are fully tested and part of the CentOS tree. If you want to get the latest bugfix and enhancement updates as soon as they are available, you can use the fasttrack repo. If you want your bugfix and enhancements to happen exactly as they do now (at point release time), don't use the fasttrack repo. Dovecot 1.0.something rpm for CentOS?

Is anyone using successfully a specific rpm of Dovecot 1.0.something? There's nothing on dag and a few on rpmfind (for Fedora Core), but I don't know if they'd work. The one coming with Centos 4 (0.99.11) has quite a few bugs and I'd like to put an upgrade on top of it. Clarification Needed: DAG vs. rpmforge.

Dag in the thread about kvirc, I had pointed to dries repo, based on a list of repos I use *now*, that replaced your repo with rpmforge. This based on an instruction earlier that I should use rpmforge instead. So when I run my "yum --enablerepo=\* list...", it did not show your repo contents. Should I be including *both* rpmforge and dag? TIA Bill

Hi all, 4.3/rh release is shipping compat-gcc-32-c++-3.2.3-47.3 which i can see includes 3.2.3 & 3.3.4 support but if i need support for 3.3.2 libstdc++ what should i do? I've searched for compat pkgs and no one has 3.3.3 support, im wondering if installing 3.3.2 gcc tools from gnu sources is a good idea or check if 3.3.2 rpm for this exists. Is that compat-* pkgs something related to RH only? TIA Jose

greetings! it appeared to me that previous upgrades were strained by sheer amount and size of the update as well as the eagerness of the CentOS userbase to get upgraded... this last one, well... it went so smooth that i believe many may have missed it happening so to speak :-) initially having been a large Galacticom aka Worldgroup BBS operator (remember those?) and then an ISP for going on 2 decades i sincerely appreciate the smoothness of the last batch of upgrades and the distribution of such around the world... it appeared almost effortless from this side... :-) CentOS team, great job! and keep up the awesome work! ummm, do you have any statistics to share that show how much data was moved around and by how many internal servers and external clients? again, way to go! - rh -- Robert Hanson - Abba Communications Computer & Internet Services (509) 624-7159 - www.abbacomm.net

irqbalance is dead, can not shutdown

After updating to centos 4.3, I notice a failure in terminating irqbalance whenever i shutdown the system. Checking the services after the system reboot i see the error in irqbalance: "irqbalance dead but subsys locked" Can anyone tell me what irqbalance is and if it safe to disable it ? Using long usernames with dots in LDAP

Hi, I have configured openldap on CentOS 4.3, all my users are in ldap. I also configure idx-smbtools for managing the users. The test I'm doing is creating long usernames like this: this.is.avery.long.username All is working fine: sendmail, dovecot, idx-smbldap-tools, ceti-poppassd, chown My question is, I'm breaking some standards? g++ missing

This is probably a basic, but I can't find any reference to it in the CentOS docs. It appears g++ is not installed (or was not provided) in the CentOS distribution 4.2. Should this be present or must it be installed manually? Help I cant find where Java is installed.

I installed Suns Java but I don't know how to find where it installed to. Can someone tell me how to find it? Someone told me to do a Find -name java -print But all I got was a message saying I had mail. When I looked in the mail it was a log with a bunch of jibberish. Any clue what to do now?

How does one know which process/kerneldaemon that own specific udp ports? The UDP ports does not show up in # lsof -i udp # netstat -anp shows udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:911 0.0.0.0:* - How do you get to know what hooked UDP 911? Helpful hints would be greatly appreciated Chris

Backup options.

I am a long time FreeBSD user and have been using dump/restore for many years for disk to disk backups. Now I am getting more and more into FC4 and CentOS, but am I stuck on only using tar/star for backups? Tar in its various forms are fine for some items, like home directories, but dump and restore in FreeBSD also gave me the possibility of easily doing a bare metal restore. What are my options for command line only backups? What is everyone else using? I do know about Bacula and Amanda... I don't know, maybe I have been using FreeBSD for too long. Thanks, Erin

Hi, I installed absolutely new installation of CentOS 4.3 from DVD media and I unchecked every additional packages. After that I perform # yum upgrade and install wanted packages # yum install samba-client installed packages are samba-common-3.0.10-1.4E.6 samba-client-3.0.10-1.4E.6 SELinux and iptables are disabled. install CentOS using an external USB cdrom

Hello, I have an external USB cdrom ; I have a machine which does not have a VGA card and not a standard IDE socket so you cannot connect a CDROM internally to it ; it has USB port; I want to install CentOS using an external USB cdrom on this machine, through the serial port. Is there a way to do it ? I am quite desperate about it. The motherboard DOES enable configuing the BIOS to boot from a USB device. Regards, IB

php on command line problems

The installed php on CentOS/RHEL is the CGI version. This means I should be able to get command line arguments with $GLOBALS['argv'] or $_SERVER['argv']. That's how the php documentation tells and how it works f.i. on Suse. However, on CentOS I get them only when I use the -n switch to php (no php.ini). The problem with -n is that php cannot find the mysql_connect function for some unknown reason. So, how can I get to argv without using -n? Or can I add the cli version with an additional rpm? OT: SME Server7.0rc1 help request

Hi, sorry for the post here. I was hoping if someone has seen an error as described below. google did not give much links. System: PIII,450Mhz, Intel board SR440BX, 320MB ram, Segate 7200 rpm 80g gb disk. cdrom: cdrw-samsung52X/teac32x Bug report: http://www.contribs.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1187 SME server Version: 7.0rc1 iso. image verifies md5 on windows xp system. Problem: monitor displays the following and freezes. loading vmlinuz......... loading initrd.img............. Ready. What's wrong here? I am not able to get to the media check. FC5, WinXP boot and install. So i am thinking no hardware fault. Changing CD drive does not help. previous versions: Centos 4.2 server CD installs and is fine. I only wanted a UI as i am not very familar to the command line(read newbie). I had loaded sme server 6.0 on this system successfully. Ssoundblaster audigy and alsamixer

I have an interesting problem. I have no sound through the sound card, but I can use the onboard sound ok. The reason I have no sound is that the slider for "audigy analog/digital output jack" is missing in the gnome mixer. The label is there, and a mute box are there, but no sliders. When I bring up alsa mixer in the console, there is a box for a slider, but no slider. According to soundcard detection, the module "snd-emu10k1" is installed. If I switch the speakers to the headphone jack, I can get some sound, although it is with a lot of static. This is a dual boot machine with suse 9.2, so I know the card works. Any ideas? ~Lorin

newbie kernel question

Im sorry if this is a newb question, but how do you recompile the kernel in CentOS 4.3? I need to add reiserfs support (even though the setup detected it) the kernel it gave me didnt have support for reiserfs, and my entire fileserver is all reiserfs. I tried the gentoo way, which im use to and it bombed. What do i need to do? does it install kernel source by default? I couldnt find any good documentation on the subject, and this is my first RH type install. thanks Nick

CentOS 4.3 occasionally locking up accessing IDE drive

For those who haven't seen my several previous postings about problems with this (now not quite so) new PC, I have an ASUS P5N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard. The boot drive and primary filesystems are on an SATA disk and I'm having no problem with that. However, I recently plugged in a couple of IDE drives salvaged from my old PCs and I'm running into trouble with one of those. The drive in question is a 20GB Maxtor 92049U6. It had an old RH5.2 ext2 filesystem on it when I first plugged it in, from which I tried to recover some data to back up to CD. Mostly this worked, but I started encountering read errors accessing some files so I unmounted the partition and started a fsck on it. At some point during the fsck (I was off doing something else on another workspace at the time), the system locked up hard, leaving the disk activity LED lit. I had to reset the PC. So at that point I booted single-user and ran the fsck from there. It completed successfully after fixing a number of problems. I continued into multi-user mode, finished doing my backups, repartitioned the drive, and started "mkfs -t ext3 -c" on the larger partition, to check for bad blocks. Again at some point part way through the mkfs, the system locked up. Back to single user mode, run the "mkfs", everything finishes fine. Back to multi-user mode, start to copy some large files onto the drive. MD5 sums fail to match for some of the copied files. Unmounted and started up "fsck -y". This succeeded, after fixing a number of errors, so (at this point just as a test case) I re-copied the files with bad MD5s. Some of these came through OK this time, others still did not. I decided perhaps this meant there were still bad blocks on the drive that a read-only test was not finding. You'd think I'd have learned, but encouraged by the success of the previous fsck I optimistically started up another "fsck -c -c -y" on the suspect partition, and this time I waited around to watch it. About 1.6GB into the 16GB partition, the system locked up again. This time I booted into a hard disk diagnostic program instead of into CentOS. After running overnight last night, a non-destructive read-write surface-scan reported no problems with the drive. This leads me to suspect that the problem is with linux, but I don't know how to proceed with diagnosing it. Suggestions would be appreciated.

I wanted to update to CentOS 4.3 from CentOS 4.2. While updating packages using yum, there was serveral error messages, and I've found that some packages has not been updated. Delay in SSH login..

Hi, I have CentOS 4.3 running on my AMD Athlon XP(32 bit) PC and Windows 2000 running on my other Intel P3 PC(These 2 PCs are connected using a network switch). Basically I use the one running Linux as back end server and everything was fine so far. But recently I am experiencing some delay in loggin in to CentOS through SSH. The Putty client which I use generally opens up asking for username prompt(no delay in that) but after entering the password it takes atleast 10-15 seconds gap before I logged in. It was fine before and I am sure I didn't made any changes to linux configuration. Can anyone please help me with this issue. By the way I always use the IP address like($ ssh user(a)192.168.0.xxx without any hostname) thanks Lin

I had this working once but had to re-use the machine and didn't keep track of what it took. Does anyone have a list of the extra packages needed to run vmware server on a machine with the single-disk x86_64 server install + updates. glibc.i686 installed ok, but xorg-x11-libs.i386 has a conflict with fontconfig that I don't recall from the previous time. Hello I experienced strange problem with bandwith. My CentOS 4.3 x86_64 server is a gateway to Internet. The uplink is 20 Mbps full duplex Eth card is part of NForce4 chipset, the module is "forcedeth" As a testing tool we use "iperf" http://dast.nlanr.net/Projects/Iperf/ By test we decide downloda is only 10 Mbps (upload is 18-20 Mbps) The first suspect was ISP, so we did test in cooperation. ISP Our site FreeBSD ========= FreeBSD (ISP test machine) TCP&UDP down 20 Mbps TCP&UDP up 20 Mbps TCP&UDP up 20 Mbps TCP&UDP down 20 Mbps result: link is Ok The second and final suspect was our gateway: ISP Our site FreeBSD ========= CentOS 4.3 UDP down 20 Mbps UDP up 20 Mbps UDP up 20 Mbps UDP down 20 Mbps BUT TCP down 20 Mbps TCP up 20 Mbps TCP up 10-12 Mbps TCP down 10-12 Mbps SO: there is an problem with TCP ??? raid setup

Hi, I have 2 identical xSeries 346 with 2 identical IBM 72GB scsi drive. What i did is install the centos 4.2 serverCD on the first IBM and set the HDD to raid1 and raid0 for swap. Now what i did is get the 2nd HDD in the 1st Server swap it with the 1st HDD in the 2nd Server and rebuild the Raids. The 1st server rebuild the array fine. My problem is the Second server, after rebuilding it and rebooted it, i need to rebuild the 2nd HDD again in the 2nd Server i don't know what went wrong. 64 bit

Hello, Presently I am considering using CentOS as my base OS. I am wondering about a few things though. I like KVirc as my irc program. I have had issue with compiling it in 64bit mode under Fedora 3 and was todl it was because Fedora installs both 32 and 64 bit libs and the compiler didn't understnad which to use. Will this be an issue with CentOS 4 also? If I install the 64 bit version how much trouble am I going to have when runnig 32 bit programs? -- Regards Robert Smile... it increases your face value!

The point is: it's not tested by RH, it's not tested by CentOS, it probably (okay 99.99% here) works in a vanilla kernel - but does it work after all of RH's patches have been applied? It probably does, _BUT_ do we guarantee it? NO. It just might break, and if it does _YOU_ get to keep the pieces and don't say we didn't warn you (and the breakage may very well be silent and result in a corrupted disk (etc.) three months from now). Sure, ext2 seems like something that shouldn't break, but one would think the same of many other options - some of which DO break, and perhaps even silently at that (or at least silently until your system crashes and you lose your data). vsftpd: transfer of files fails

I've got a problem with vsftpd on a new CentOS system. Most users can login and list and everything but when they want to transfer files the client says "transfer failed" or so. However, it works fine with two users. Of course, these two have been created by me and used only by me. So, I didn't detect the problem before other users tried to upload. Of course, first thought is there might be some permission problem. However, I checked everything and the directory permissions are identical with the two accounts that work. Same goes for the user details they have. They only difference is that one of the two accounts is uid 50x while all the others are over 10000 - including the second one that works. All users have login shell /bin/false, are in /home and are chrooted to their homedir. The same users with the same directory setup, permissions and everything work fine on the old machine with vsftpd 1.1 (CentOS has 2.0). The vsftpd configuration is basically how it is when installed from base plus a few additional settings (like write-enable=yes etc.). SELINUX is in permissive mode and there are no advanced ACLs in effect. The baffling thing is that it works for these two (and maybe other users I haven't identified yet), but not for the majority, although all seem to be setup equivalent. One other thing I just notice is that I can delete root-owned files (standard 644 permissions) with any of the FTP users (the working and the non-working ones) which should not be possible at all. Thanks for the reply. The error is displayed anytime you try an use the network, IE ping to default router from the command prompt. I now longer have access as it is the USA and I am in the UK, the networking is no longer woring from the system, I have asked the local person to change the network card, but that still gives the same error. Weh you go an IFCONFIG no errors are reported and the link light is on all the time, and the activity light does flash. Denis

SSH + VNC

I am trying to log into a desktop that is running CentOS 4.2 by tennelling VNC through SSH.. The desktop auto-logins a user, then sits there waiting for me to login. On the client side, I fire up SSH tunneling ssh -L 8000:127.0.0.1:5900 The client spits back the error vncviewer: ConnectToTcpAddr: connect: Connection refused Unable to connect to VNC server The server says channel 5: open failed: connect failed: Connection refused channel 5: open failed: connect failed: Connection refused I've tried ssh -L 5900:127.0.0.1:5900 ssh -L 8000:localhost:5900 and neither work. I've also tried using the command vino-preferences on the remote desktop. It tells me to connect to vnc:/IP-address:0 Whats interesting is that if I issue the command vncserver on the remote desktop, it starts up a new server on display :1. I can connect to this display with no issues via the SSH tunnel. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem? I use SSH tunneling and VNC with display :0 on SUSE 10.0 machines all the time without issues. thanks

I upgraded a box running fedora core 2 to Centos-4.3 The fedora core box has a reiserfs file system, which I am assuming is not supported in the CentOS kernel. I tried the unsupported kernel but I still get a kernel panic. Can I either convert to ext3, or possibly install something that will make my reiserfs filesystem work ? --

Centos 4 on Tyan S2895 with sata

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone out there has got Centos 4 installed on a Tyan S2895 (that's a Thunder K8WE) motherboard on sata disks? I know about the forcedeth bug, but I'm getting installation hangs at random spots in the install, even off CD, in what seem to be nv_sata timeout problems. SuSE 10 is rock solid on the same box, so I don't think it's hardware, and I've tried two different sets of disks to rule out disk problems. Latest bios updates - tried both 1.02 and 1.03. I am trying to install OpenNMS on Centos 4. The problem I am having now is I need to install rrdtools 1.2.7. Only problem is it doesn't come with a .bin or .rpm file to install it with. I see very clearly how yum accesses the CentOS repos when I look in /etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo But I don't see any equivalent file in /etc/apt/sources.list.d All I have in that directory are list files like dag.list dries.list freshrpms.list ...etc.. How does apt-get know where to look for CentOS repo stuff?

Has anybody recompiled Centos' default kernel on x86_64

I haven't been able to recompile Centos' default kernel on 4.2, nor on 4.3 on an x86_64 The process fails with two different problems: 1. 'cannot find -lqt' error 2. offset.h.tmp missing Kind of weird not being able to recompile an integral part of the system on a system which is entirely based on recompilation. Based on second hand reports vanila kernel seems to compile o.k., but I don't want to go vanila if I don't have to.

What incantations are used to build vmlzi586 and initi586.img found in the isolinux directory of the CentOS 4.3 DVD? I have an old K6-2 box that runs CentOS 4.3 fine but because of a few features, I'd really prefer to run FC5 on that machine and it won't install -- which is the reason for the (OT) in the subject. Hi, I am running centos server 4.2 and I have installed dante-server socks proxy I yumed it off a dag repo. The problem I am having is configuring it. I have edited the sockd.conf file but it still tells me that I don't have an internal address setup. Does anyone have any suggestions. am I editing the wrong config file. if I do a locate sock*.conf I get the following list /etc/sockd.conf (this one was created by webmin plugin I downloaded for editing dante) /user/share/doc/dante-server-1.1.18/sockd.conf (this is the one I edited) /etc/socks.conf /user/share/doc/dante-1.0.18/socks.conf If anyone can help I would really appreciate it. Hi All, I have mailed same problem before also . I want to make the rpm for the kernel . so i took kernel source of bz2 format . IAfter unzipping i applied the following commands, make menuconfig and make rpm. So it created the RPM for kernel . But it's not updating the grub.conf and also not creating the initrd.img. After installing the rpm ,i have manually create the initrd.img and and changed the grub.conf . I want to know some informations like when the initrd.img creates ?? system hangs on boot

I have a couple of systems here that are refusing to boot after the installation of CentOS 4.3 when done through Kickstart. They boot fine when installed from CD. The boot hangs after grub loads the kernel and initrd. The cursor is still flashing. The strange thing is that the same drive containing the OS installation boots fine when moved to a slightly older system (older system uses Nacona CPU. New system uses Irwindale CPU. Both use the same motherboard). Any idea how to troubleshoot it at this point? I've tried disabling USB, APIC, etc. without much luck. Thanks for any help.

GRUB issue

Hi all, I have created a custom CD of centos. The CD instals properly but doesn't ask for ethernet card configuration, further when installation completes and system reboots then first the GRUB comes and on selecting the kernel 2.6.9 it shows the error Filesystem type is ext2fs, type is 0X03 Error 15 ........... Works like a charm. I pulled a spec file off of dag, and modified it for my purposes, and built an RPM for it. There are still plenty of traps, but no more than with cfengine on any other system =). Indiana timezone changing

I have a couple questions... I am in Indiana and our time zone is changing. I used to choose America/Indiana/Indianapolis as the zone and we are changing to Eastern. Question 1) Is there a command line only way to change my timezone? I dont have access to X to run system-config-time. Doing a "system-config-time --help" or "system-config-time -h" did not give any information. Question 2) If the server is setup for NTP I presume I still have to change the time zone. Since Indiana-East is going away are the NTP time servers smart enough to know that Indiana-East is now just Eastern? Basically - do I have to change anything on my machines or does NTP just do it for me? Thanks, Jerry

mdadm and smtp yum update issue

greetings i have a newer centos 4.2 server using qmail for smtp the /etc/yum.conf has this in it exclude=spamassassin exim postfix sendmail so when i do a yum update to go to 4.3 i get this --> Running transaction check --> Processing Dependency: smtpdaemon for package: mdadm --> Finished Dependency Resolution Error: Missing Dependency: smtpdaemon is needed by package mdadm how should i procede from here? evidentally mdadm wants a known smtp function as i do not get this error until i stuff exim and postfix and sendmail in the exclude should i undo exim in /etc/yum.conf exclude and then after exim is installed then remove it? with rpm -e --nodeps exim or another way? yum remove exim or? thanks in advance... - rh -- Robert Hanson - Abba Communications Computer & Internet Services (509) 624-7159 - www.abbacomm.net

My HP 4010 and the IGP 350M video card. I can only get it to go into 800x600 mode. At one time, Resolution Display (gnome desktop) was giving me an option of 1024x768 and if I selected it the monitor went crazy. Now I don't even get that higher resolution as an option. I have searched far and wide for information on this card and the Radeon linux driver. No help at all. My /etc/sysconf/hwconf has: class: VIDEO bus: PCI detached: 0 driver: Card:ATI Radeon IGP330M/340M/350M desc: "ATI Technologies Inc Radeon IGP 330M/340M/350M" vendorId: 1002 deviceId: 4337 subVendorId: 0e11 subDeviceId: 005a pciType: 1 pcidom: 0 pcibus: 1 pcidev: 5 pcifn: 0 I might suspect that changing one of those values will give what I want. But I cannot find any information on what this all means. I have also read where some 3x0M owners have switched to the generic VESA driver with better success. I tried that and did not get a 1024x768 option to even try. Oh, I also tried the SystemTools -> Display utility, (this is what I used to switch drivers) and it also did not offer 1024x768. help? Pointers?

Anaconda seems to exclusively build off of the hdlist, so you would have to rebuild it if you want to come out of the anaconda install with a fully patched system. I do this for Centos4 with no major problems. If you like, I can send you the commands that you need to run to do this. I actually keep a full package respository locally for Centos, and nightly pull down all the updates, and rebuild the hdlist, and yum headers. When I build servers, I use kickstart off of my own repository. 0 -> fully patched centos4 server in 5 - 10 minutes, depending on what is installed =). Method for autoinstalling new updates at install time (or very near to it)

I have CentOS 4.3 as well as RHEL4u3 and FC5 setup on my PXE/HTTP Server automating the install process. However, I'd also like to apply any post update RPMS during installation also. Is there any easy method to do this with out having to recreate the hdlist and other installation files? My desire would be to have a updates directory that I can put packages into and CentOS would check to see if a newer version of the RPM exists in /updates. Any thoughts? My goal is to get away from the need to download 200+ megabytes of updates after each install. I know I could setup my own yum updates server and then point each new install at that instead of the mirrors but I wanted something slightly more automated. Can anyone else tell me how their doing this? Jay

dovecot vs Cyrus-Imapd

I'm just preparing to build a new mail server for use at an ISP handling over 10,000 mailboxes and several domains. We're currently using Qmail, but we'd like to move away from that since we have now changed our inbound mail systems over to Postfix. Postfix will be receiving the mail, and I'm trying to decide between Dovecot and Cyrus-Imapd for the POP & IMAP service. Does anybody have any advice or opinions about which of these two packages would be better for a large installation. I'd prefer if the package could tie into MySQL for user authentication, and all mailboxes will be virtual in the sense that they won't have local system accounts. Thanks for your help. Bob.

Server spontaneously rebooting under RHEL-4

Hey, y'all! :) I've got an RHEL-4 server (yep, I know it's not CentOS, but hey we gotta send some money RH's way to keep CentOS up and going! ) that's running Oracle 10g. This same hardware worked just fine for over a year running RHEL-AS-2.1 and Oracle 9i. Now we're getting spontaneous reboots when running oracle processes that eat up a bunch of resources. I don't know where to go from here. It's got dual hyper-threading processors set to hyperthreading mode, and I understand that the 2.6 kernel used to have HT issues, but I thought that'd been solved. The kernel we're running is: 2.6.9-22.0.2.ELsmp (yeah, not the latest, I haven't had a chance lately to test and update the patches). High CPU usage for migration kernel process

I've got a CentOS 4.3 box here which is exhibiting crazy (I think) CPU load on one of the four migration kernel processes: # ps ax | grep migration 2 ? S 0:08 [migration/0] 4 ? S 112:23 [migration/1] 6 ? S 2:48 [migration/2] 8 ? S 0:11 [migration/3] It's running kernel 2.6.9-34.ELsmp. Does anyone have any idea what might cause that? Thanks :) -- Andy Armstrong, hexten.net

Another server hosed

Hi, Just upgraded a remote 4.1 server [basically Samba] with yum update. Went through the process and every showed OK, when I did a restart, the only thing working is ping. I could ping it, but that's it. Could not connect anymore through SSH, could not connect through SMB. My smb.conf is still there and it still shows my settings. Testparm -L reports the correct info, but nobody can connect. I now have the server being shipped back. Not able to install Centos 4.2

Hi, Last week I bought a new system & downloaded Centos 4.2. Here is the detailed configuration of the PC: a) Seagate 80GB Sata HDD: Model Number:ST3808110AS b) ASUS ADN-VM Mother board c) AMD 3000+ 64bit d) Other things are common & dont think they are required in this context. I am not able to install Centos 4.2. After the step to check install media, I get this message: "No hard drives have been found. You probably need to manually choose device drivers for the installation to succeed. Would you like to select drivers now?" If I choose yes, I am shown a list of device drivers. I tried some of them, but nothing worked. I have tried installing both 32 bit & 64 bit versions of Centos 4.2. Each of them gave the same message. I googled a bit, but could not get anything to work for me. The HDD is installed properly. I was able to install another flavor of Linux (Mandriva). I did not try with Centos 4.3 because I have heard that Centos 4.2 fully supports SATA disks. Please help, Thanks & regards, Ravi.
