Hello Guys... weird network error

a previously rock solid reliable server of mine crashed last night, the server was still running but eth0, a Intel 82574L using the e1000e driver, went down. The server has a Supermicro X8DTE-F (dual Xeon X5650, yada yada). server is a drbd master, so that was the first thing to notice network issues. Just a couple days ago I ran yum update to the latest, I do this about once a month. /var/log/messages logged... (prior to this was nothing but normal smbd complaining about CUPS not configured). Kernel version in CentOS 7 pxeboot images

I have a number of machines which PXE boot using the images provided by CentOS here: http://mirror.centos.org/centos/7/os/x86_64/images/pxeboot/ That gives the machines kernel 3.10.0-327.el7.x86_64. I would like to move to a newer kernel as I'm seeing a serious I/O problem which I suspect is a kernel bug. I thought that would be as easy as grabbing the files from here: http://mirror.centos.org/centos/7.2.1511/os/x86_64/images/pxeboot/ ... but that's not the case, those are the same exact files as the earlier ones. These machines always PXE boot, they have no OS installed to their local disk. Instead their root filesystem is on an NFS server. So this is not PXE+kickstart or other provisioning system, just PXE then mount an NFS export for its root filesystem. So, how would one go about creating a new vmlinuz and initrd.img the same way that the ones shown above were built, except with a newer kernel? CentOS 7.2 Installation - Anaconda Installer Security Policy Configuration

The Anaconda installer now provides a "Security Policy", although selecting any of the available profiles does not seem to have much effect on the overall installation. Has anyone here had any success with using the kickstart file that is installed when "Pre-release Draft STIG for CentOS Linux 7 Server" profile is selected? The upstream vendor's security guide doesn't seem to offer much guidance. All accounts of trials and tribulations are appreciated. My goal is to install/verify (or as close as I can get to it) a STIG compliant CentOS 7.2 distribution. Thanks! Michael Duvall

OT: hardware: MegaCli and initializing a RAID

Got a new box I'm trying to set up. I configured the RAID from the firmware, but "fast initialize" was sitting there at 0% (it's about 43 or 45TB). The first time I tried this, I said background, and rebooted the system. And the stupid annoying alarm started up as the system came up. This time, having *finally* figured out how to set up hot spares from the WebBIOS, I suspended the fast initialization, and brought the system up. Googling, I can't find a command to continue the initialization. Anyone know of one, or is what I want to do rebuild the RAID? mark

CentOS-6.5 - CD/DVD does not sense media

I dealing with problem 1 - see previous message - I set about creating a live DVD on my development system. Now I find that I cannot seem to mount a medium in that drive. wodim --devices reports it as present and so does cdrecode. I can use the eject utility to toggle the tray open and closed. Firefox 45.1.0 stability

Good afternoon, Apologies if this topic has come up before but I've found that the Firefox 45.1.0 stability to be somewhat lacking. For example, I can't use it for Twitter because it crashes. It also crashes when I log into gmail. This happens every time I try these URL's. Any suggestions on improving the stability? Thanks! Jeff

CentOS 7 and 4K display

I installed C7 along with MATE desktop... My monitor is a 4K unit but when I goto the System -> preferences -> hardware -> Displays there is selection for the 4K display. It stops at 1920x1080. The var log x file shows the 4K resolutions in the file so that is good. How do I get the selections for 4K to show up? Thanks, Jerry

centos samba sssd active directory

Hello all, Im having the latest centos that should be integrated into win 2012 active directory domain. I have a laptop that I put centos 7 on and I started out with a 30gig partition. I resized the other part of the disk to allow more space for centos. I then created an unformated partition in the available space, ran pvcreate /dev/sda4 vgextend lvname /dev/sda4 lvextend -L 184.46G /dev/lvname/root but when I run: sudo resize2fs /dev/lvname/root I get: resize2fs: Bad magic number in super-block while trying to open /dev/lvname/root Couldn't find valid filesystem superblock. [off-topic] Validating e-mail address with php

After running into several web application that rejected any e-mail address on the new gTLDs because the apps were badly written to validate with a hard-coded list of valid TLDs, I wrote a e-mail validation function that I *think* does things properly. Free for anyone to use who wants to. https://deviant.email/emailaddytest.phps What it really does is use the PHP built-in filter_var but it compensates for known bugs in the filter_var e-mail address validation. It return boolean. I *think* it will properly validate any legal routable address and reject any that are not. But bugs may exist. By default when the host part of user@host is a domain name, it does a DNS query to validate the host resolves. That adds a little latency but I think is worth it. My own implementation will probably cache a positive result for up to 24 hours with APCu but that's not in the function linked. The dns lookup can be disabled. By default it will reject IP address as the host part, but that can be enabled. When enabled, it will reject private and reserved range. Well, reject what is hard-coded into PHP filter_var - I haven't tested that. International domain names will only validate if the php-intl functions are installed (to turn them into punycode) -=- For the username validation, that's where any bugs are most likely to exist. But I think I did it right. It's very unfortunate that the built-in php filter doesn't do it right. Anyway free for anyone, I'm tired of e-mail address filters that don't properly work with common user names on perfectly legal domains that just happen to be newly ICANN approved. You can see live testing by just removing the last s from the filename.

Me again, Another change to my Centos 7.2 system since my 'yum update' yesterday is that /var/log/dovecot is no longer written to. If I do 'systemctl status dovecot' I can see log entries. How can I now do the equiv or 'tail -f <logfile>' Also, why has this changed, and where is it documented?

FirewallD and FTP passive mode

Howdy I'm trying to run FTP server behind firewall. And i can't enable passive mode from the Internet. There are plenty howtos but there aren't many with my combination. For now i have configured port forwarding and ftp server itself. Me again, Another problem I've found since doing my yum update is that EXIM is now showing the following error, on startup, and repeatedly in main.log [root@ollie2 ~]# exim -bt localpart(a)example.com 2016-05-06 09:27:04 WARNING: purging the environment. Suggested action: use keep_environment and add_environment. ............... Googling says that to fix this all I need to do is add keep_environment to exim.conf. After restart, user's gnome autostart seems broken

Hello there, CentOS6.7 64-bit up-to-date running on my laptop.. This night I had to restart (did it properly). Since then, my ~/.config/autostart/ contains some new broken .desktop files and /var/log/messages complains: gnome-session[7280]: WARNING: Could not parse desktop file /home/wwp/.config/autostart/gnome-keyring-daemon.desktop: Key file does not have key 'Name' gnome-session[7280]: WARNING: could not read /home/wwp/.config/autostart/gnome-keyring-daemon.desktop [snip] the log tells the same story about other desktop files: gnome-settings-daemon gnome-settings-daemon-helper gnome-power-manager gnome-screensaver gdu-notification-daemon at-spi-registryd user-dirs-update-gtk seahorse-daemon evolution-alarm-notify xfce4-settings-helper-autostart xfce4-notes-autostart IOW, stuff that sounds a bit critical from a GNOME desktop user PoV, explaining my concern. ALl the new broken .desktop files show the same date (Jul 3, 2014) and seem to be related to default services (/etc/xdg/autostart) that should normally NOT be there, as least from what I see on other similar systems running here. The services related to those files are NOT present anymore in my "Startup Applications Preferences", and I start wondering if the broken local desktop files are not shadowing system ones (that seem to run fine, according to `ps ax` and to my running GNOME desktop, showing no defect). I show you the contents of one of them, representative: ==== [Desktop Entry] X-XFCE-Autostart-Override=false Hidden=true ==== On another CentOS 6.7 box, I notice that those services (gnome keyring, at spi registry wrapper, etc.) are present in the "Startup Applications Preferences" but NOT in ~/.config/autostart/, so I assume that default system things are taken into account there. BTW, my user desktop settings are NOT to "automatically remember running applications when logging out". I have a complete backup of the system after last reboot (and a differential backup from one day ago), so I'm not risking anything apparently, but does anybody understand what happened? Copying CentOS to new drive

I recently asked about copying a running system to a new drive. As a postscript, I'm wondering if it would have been preferable to run the machine under a Live OS, and simply copy the root partition to the new drive? Dovecot on C7.2 - secure internet access

I have a mail server running on Centos 7.2 which has been working for my LAN for a long time. I'm at the point where I have to make it accessible to the internet. At the moment, access can be insecure but as it's on my LAN it isn't an issue. However, for internet access I wish to force SSL/TLS. Having read the documents I think it's as simple as changing 10-ssl.conf from ssl = yes to ssl = required remote 10.0.0.0/8 { ssl = yes } Am I right in thinking that this would make the global value now force SSL/TLS to be required, but for my LAN (10.0.0.0/8) override this with the old value of 'yes' Is there a better way to do this? Have I missed anything? I believe that this means implies disable_plaintext_auth = no for all except my LAN. Is that right?

CnetOS 7, hostname, and rsyslogd

A current system, but this has been happening since I built this box last fall: the system gets its name via DHCP, not from a hostname file. On reboot, such as after a yum update, it *appears* as though rsyslogd is started before the network is up, and so it doesn't have its hostname yet... so /var/log/messages shows the hostname as localhost. If I restart rsyslogd, and everything's fine. Has anyone else seen this behaviour? mark

I have just run a 'yum update' on a Centos 7.2 server which updated several hundred RPMs. The update worked fine with no errors or warnings I then rebooted the server and now my EXIM is rejecting emails because the clamd service isn't running. c6, drbd and file systems

I have a pair of centos 6 systems, with a rather large raid thats DRBD replicated from box 1 to box 2... box 1 mounts this as /data when box 1 reboots, /data doesn't get mounted, but the drbd replication starts up just fine. the entry in fstab is... /dev/drbd0 /data xfs inode64 1 0 once the system is booted up, if I `mount /data`, it mounts just fine. I'm not using any sort of heartbeat or other HA management software, if box 1 fails, I'll manually configure box2 to take over after physically disabling box1 so it can't wake up a zombie. -- john r pierce, recycling bits in santa cruz

Does anybody have openocd-0.9.0 RPM for CentOS6 x86_64? I was able to compile F23's SRPM (along with two libraries - hidapi-0.7.0 from F19 and libusbx-1.0.14 from F19) but it gives me only "Segmentation fault". systemd-journald corruption

I have several recently-installed CentOS 7 servers that keep having systemd-journald corruption (which stops ALL logging, including syslog). Interestingly, they are all spam-scanning servers running amavisd-new (so could be some particular pattern is triggering it). Is there a "supported" way to just cut systemd-journald out of the picture and have log entries go straight to rsyslogd? Has anyone else seen this? -- Chris Adams <linux(a)cmadams.net>

E-mail advice sought

I'm working on setting up an e-mail service. I've got the e-mail servers working beautifully and am presently working on re-writing the parts of Roundcube I don't like (e.g. it uses inline JavaScript in a few places so CSP breaks it) but - Is there any advice on characters to allow in usernames? I know there are some wacky characters that are legal in e-mail addresses but are generally frowned upon - like "very.(),:;<>[]\".VERY.\"very@\ \"very\".unusual"@example.com is apparently a legal address - but I know I don't want to allow ampersands and brackets etc. in an address. I don't think a whitelist alphabet is best approach because of people with names that are not spelled with Latin characters. Is there an existing blacklist of characters that technically legal but are generally avoided in e-mail addresses? Thanks

Hello all, I'm wondering if there's any interest in trying to bond em1 and eth0 (respectively wired and wireless interfaces here), and if any, how to do it in CentOS6. Any experience or point of view on this topic? The wikipedia page: <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Email_address> gives a good summary -- look at the "local part" section and the examples lower down. You'll also want to review the RFCs. Depending on your user community you may also need to look at the RFCs related to the internationalization of email addressing sooner rather than later. Note, that wiki page has some references to non-RFC sources that are basically the authors' views/preferences. In at least one of these cases, many of the recommendations violate the RFCs. If there is doubt, the RFCs should be your guide.

tune2fs: Filesystem has unsupported feature(s) while trying to open

I have an ext4 filesystem for which I'm trying to use "tune2fs -l". Here is the listing of the filesystem from the "mount" command: # mount | grep share /dev/mapper/VolGroup_Share-LogVol_Share on /share type ext4 (rw,noatime,nodiratime,usrjquota=aquota.user,jqfmt=vfsv0,data=writeback,nobh,barrier=0) When I try to run "tune2fs" on it, I get the following error: # tune2fs -l /dev/mapper/VolGroup_Share-LogVol_Share tune2fs 1.41.12 (17-May-2010) tune2fs: Filesystem has unsupported feature(s) while trying to open /dev/mapper/VolGroup_Share-LogVol_Share Couldn't find valid filesystem superblock. This filesystem was created on this system (i.e. not imported from another system). I have other ext4 filesystems on this server, and they all work with "tune2fs -l". Basic system info: # rpm -qf `which tune2fs` e2fsprogs-1.41.12-18.el6.x86_64 # cat /etc/redhat-release CentOS release 6.5 (Final) # uname -a Linux lnxutil8 2.6.32-504.12.2.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed Mar 11 22:03:14 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux I did a little web searching on this, most of the hits were for much older systems, where (for example) the e2fsprogs only supported up to ext3, but the user had an ext4 filesystem. Obviously that's not the case here. In other words, the filesystem was created with the mkfs.ext4 binary from the same e2fsprogs package as the tune2fs binary I'm trying to use. C5: The Firefox ESR 45.1.0 Nighmare

Centos replaced well-running customise Firefox with version ESR 45.1.0 * All the add-ons (language dictionaries, Adblock Plus, Classic Theme Restorer etc.) were disabled with no simple method of reactivating them. Reason given was they were "unsigned". * About:config xpinstall.signatures.required = false partially reduced the problem. * Then possible to reactivate some disabled add-ons, but others down-loaded OK but would not install * removing files in ~/.mozilla/firefox/.../extensions.* and restarting was supposed to help However the time-wasting problem remains, so too do the down-loaded extensions in /tmp, example tmp-xxx.xpi Would be really nice if Centos warned its loyal and grateful users of possible problems before those users trustingly replaced working programmes with considerable time-wasting problems. Firefox 46.0 fails on CentOS 6.7 due to GTK3 requirement

The latest version of firefox, 46.0 requires GTK3 and so it fails on CentOS 6.7. I know there is the ESR release supplied by upstream, but that is based on version 38. We have regularly installed the Mozilla "Linux" version of Firefox in a central location for our users, and this has worked just fine until 46.0. (I note from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/faq/ that even that ESR release is due to stop being supported soon). I filed a bugzilla report at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1267815. If this matters to you, please consider tagging onto that bug. Yes, yes we have to upgrade to CentOS 7. But in our shop, the amount of work required to get this done is huge, and won't happen soon. The whole idea of using RHEL/CentOS is to have a stable, supported version for a long period of time. useradd -r doesn't work right in some contexts

"useradd -r testuser" run as root from an interactive ssh session does the right thing: it creates a user account with a UID in the system users range (< 400). Running the same command as a cron job (just for testing), also does the right thing. Now I'm trying to accomplish the same result via chef-client. I'm trying to run "useradd -r" as a simple command, as a bash command, or as a script, from chef-client. It does create the user account, but the UID is in the normal range (> 600), not the system range. It can't be a Chef bug, because it is actually running "/usr/sbin/useradd -r username", I'm not using the Chef user resource (although I've tried that with "system true" and it also fails to put the UID in the correct range). There's something about the context where chef-client is running that triggers different results. BTW, chef-client is running as a service via /etc/init.d/chef-client Adding SYS_UID_MAX to /etc/login.defs doesn't help. Any clue what's going on? Oh, I wouldn't flame you. Hmm, I didn't think of using a virtual machine. The Lenovo has a NVidia 960MX, so I wonder if it would fully work under a virtual machine. The reason why I ask is that I do systems adminstration with meteorological software that requires OpenGL 2.0 and at least 2GB of video ram. Thank you for your reply, Mike. Apache logs missing

Don't flame me, but I really recommend using Ubuntu on laptops. If you really want CentOS, you should go with version 7. Many new laptops won't work well with that either though. CentOS CI Testing Prior to Releasing Packages

In another thread I talked about running CI testing on a packge before release. I thought I would explain that a bit more AND ask for tests, if they are needed. Prior to pushing newly released packages into the main CentOS os, updates, extras, cr, or fasttrack repositories, we run our t_functional CI test suite on the entire repo set. So if we are releasing an update, it would be against the os and updates repositories. Or if we release fasttrack package, it would be os, updates, fasttrack repositories. We also run this test suite on the final OS repository during point release upgrades. If you know of something that we sometimes get wrong and create a test that returns exit code other than 0 for a fail, and if you can convince us (on the CentOS-Devel mailing list) that it should be included, then you can help us release better updates to CentOS Linux. where, if at all, is my virtual printer output?

I recently installed the package that allows having virtual printers under CUPS. I used the localhost:631 GUI to add a virtual pdf printer. I do not remember what I did. Now there are two virtual printers, one named Cups-PDF and the one I named pdfprinter. I cannot find the output from either. I do not know how to ask them. >From firefox, print to file still works, but does not do what I want. Semi-OT: very weird vi behaviour

This is weird. As in, *deeply* weird. I ssh as root from one box to another (there are keys involved), and I go to vi a file, such as # line 1 # # line 2 # # line 3 # line 4 And what I see in vi is # line 3 # line 4 BUT, if I scroll the cursor over each line with the arrow key... I see all four lines. I've also looked at another file, and same thing. Just checked it out on the server I ssh'd in from, and no problem. And now, I just ssh'd in from another windows, same way... and the weirdness isn't there. Anyone have any clues as to what's going on with that one session? mark file

Apache/PHP Installation - opinions

Hey guys, I tend to work on small production environments for a large enterprise. Never more than 15 web servers for most sites. But most are only 3 to 5 web servers. Depends on the needs of the client.I actually like to install Apache and PHP from source and by hand. Although I know that's considered sacrilege in some shops. I do this because on RH flavored systems like CentOS the versions of Apache, php and most other software are a little behind the curve in terms of versions. And that's intentionally so! Because the versions that usually go into the various repos are tested and vetted thoroughly before going into the repos. I like to use the latest, stable versions of apache and php for my clients without having to create a custom RPM every time a new version comes out. So what I'd like to know is it better in your opinion to install from repos than to install by source as a best practice? Is it always better to use puppet, chef, ansible etc even if the environment is small? I'm sure this is a matter preference, but I would like to know what your preferences are. DNSSEC / Security stats (forked from php thread)

I don't have a source, I'd have to dig through my browser history, but I looked at some of these stats just last month. Roughly 2% of the top 1000 domains in the United States had deployed DNSSEC - which I *think* is double what it was a year ago. Roughly 7% of ISP recursive DNS servers enforce DNSSEC. Comcast does and Google's public DNS does. Those are the big ones that enforce DNSSEC on their recursive servers. I do not see any statistics for DANE adoption, either on port 443 or port 25 (the two where it is most common currently) Roughly 20% of all e-mail traffic in the United States was not encrypted. Of the e-mail traffic that was not even encrypted, a large percentage of it was spam. What wasn't spam was often sent by scripting languages (e.g. php) running blogs or other web services. Only a small percentage of e-mail sent by clients through a SMTP server was not encrypted in the MTA to MTA transfer. -=-=- What we can do as sysadmins, we can run unbound on our local machines, it defaults to DNSSEC enforcing. That way we don't have to worry if the recursive resolver our ISP uses is part of the 7%. Linode enforced last time I checked, but I don't know about other hosting services. Still safer to just run unbound listening only on the localhost, and configure /etc/resolv.conf to point to ::1 (or 127.0.0.1) If at all possible, deploy DNSSEC on any zones you have control over. Even without DANE, DNSSEC greatly improves security for the 7% (and growing) recursive resolvers that enforce DNSSEC. Before deploying DNSSEC do a lot of reading on it, because if you screw it up, those 7% enforcing recursive resolvers won't resolve your zone. I personally use a 2048-bit KSK and a 1024-bit ZSK. The KSK is what you have to get the DS record for uploaded to your TLS, and it should be rotated once a year. The ZSK is just in your zone, best practice says to rotate once a month but I rotate once a week, every Sunday. It should be automated, so it doesn't hurt to do it more often than the once a month. Doing it once a week means if my zone signing server is down or under DDoS when the signing happens, it isn't a big deal, because it happens 4X the best practices recommended anyway. With our web applications that send e-mail, don't use the SMTP services of the scripting language. Yes it is cool that you can play SMTP server with PHP etc. and yes, if PHP is built against a TLS library it can encrypt, but don't use PHP to play SMTP. Run postfix on the web server and have your web applications connect to the SMTP on the local host. This isn't just for the benefit of encrypting, it also lets you do things like sign the message with DKIM and if your postfix is new enough, check the DANE records of the MX record the message is being sent to. I don't know why so many web applications try to play SMTP themselves, it is a very bad habit and usually results in mail being sent without TLS and sometimes rejected by spam filters if the domain it allegedly comes from uses DKIM but the web application doesn't. -=-=- Hope I didn't bore too many people, or offend anyone, these are just my opinions and this is a topic I am passionate about. I think system administrators need to do a better job at securing Internet infrastructure.

Storage cluster advise, anybody?

Dear Experts, I would like to ask everybody: what would you advise to use as a storage cluster, or as a distributed filesystem. I made my own research of what I can do, but I hit a snag with my seemingly best choice, so I decided to stay away from it finally, and ask clever people what they would use. My requirements are: 1. I would like to have one big (say, comparable to petabyte) filesystem, accessible on more than one machine, composed of disk space leftovers on a bunch of machines having 1 gigabit per second ethernet connections 2. It can be a bit slow, as filesystem one would need for backups onto it (say, using bacula or bareos), and/or for long term storage of large datasets, portions of which can be copied over to faster storage for processing if necessary. I would be thinking in 1-2 TB of data written to it daily. 3. It would be great to have it single machine failure/reboot resilient 4. metadata machines should be redundant (or at least backup medatada host should be manually convertible into master metadata host if fatal failure to master or corruption of its data happens) What I would like to avoid/exclude: 1. Proprietary commercial solutions, as: a. I would like to stay on as minimal budget as possible b. I want to be able to predict that it will exist for long time, and I have better experience with my predictions of this sort about open source projects as opposed to proprietary ones 2. Open source solutions using portions of proprietary closed source binaries/libraries (e.g., I would like to stay away from google proprietary code/binaries/libraries/modules) 3. Kernel level modifications. I really would like to have this independent of OS as much as I can, or rather available on multiple OSes (though I do not like Java based things - just my personal experience with some of them). I have a bunch of Linux boxes and a bunch of FreeBSD boxes, and I do not want to exclude neither of them if possible. Also, the need to have custom Linux kernel specifically scares me: Linux kernels get critical updates often, and having customizations lagging behind the need of critical update is as unpleasant as rebooting the machine because of kernel update is. I'm not too scared of a "split nature" projects: proprietary projects having open source satellite. I have mixed experience with those, using open source satellite I mean. Some of them are indeed not neglected, and even though you may be missing some features commercial counterpart has, some are really great ones: they are just missing commercial support, and maybe having a bit sparse documentation, thus making you to invest more effort into making it work, which I don't mind: I can earn my sysadmin's salary here. I would say I more often had good experience with those than bad one (and I have a list of early indications of potential bad outcome, so I can more or less predict my future with this kind of projects). <rant> I really didn't mean to write this, but I figure it probably will surface once I start getting your advices, so here it is. I did my research having my requirements in mind and came up with the solution: moosefs. It is not reviewed much, no reviews with criticism at all, and not much you can ("I could" I should say) find howtos about customizations, performance tuning etc. It installs without a hitch. It runs well, until you start stress writing a lot to it in parallel, then it started performing exponentially badly for me. Here is where extensive attempts to find performance tuning documentation faces lack of success. What made my decision to never ever use it in a future was the following. I started migrating data back from moosefs to local UFS (that is FreeBSD box) filesystem using rsync command. What I observed was: source files after they have been touched by rsync changed their timestamps. As if instead of creation timestamp it is an access timestamp on moosefs. This renders rsync from moosefs useless, as you can not re-run failed rsync, and you obliterate some of metadata of the source ("creation" timestamp). I wrote e-mail to sourceforge moosefs mail list, mentioning all this and the fact that I am using open source moosefs. Next day they replied asking whether I use version 3."this" or version 3."that", as they want to know in which of them they have a bug. Whereas latest open source version they have everywhere, including sourceforge is older version: 2.0.88. Basically, my decision was made. Sorry for venting it out here, but I figured, it will happen some moment when I will get your advises. </rant> Thanks a lot for all your advises! Hi, folks, Our system gets/creates /var/lib/ssh-x509-auth/<username>,pem, then deletes it when the log out. selinux (in permissive mode) complains. First, I changed the context to cert_t, and *now* it complains that ksh93 wants write, etc access on the directory. grep ssh-x509-auth /var/log/audit/audit.log | audit2allow offers me this: #============= sshd_t ============== allow sshd_t cert_t:dir write; allow sshd_t var_lib_t:file { write getattr create open ioctl }; So: first, is this an expected behavior; second, is that the correct fcontext, and, finally, is it safe for me to create this as a local policy? What the heck is wrong with cron? */1 * * * * nobody /usr/bin/php /var/www/html/osticket/api/cron.php in /etc/cron.d doesn't get executed at all (ran from console works of course!). But the SAME file in /tmp runs flawlessly: */1 * * * * nobody /usr/bin/php /tmp/cron.php It's CentOS7 on VPS with no SELinux. what does firefox have against sans-serif

I've been struggling to get Firefox to render text in a sans-serif font. So far, I've only been able to do that by setting the default font as sans-serif. DejaVu Sans Mono and DajaVu Sans are the only other listed fonts that I'm reasonalbly sure are sans-serif. Helvetica and Arial are not there. sans-serif does work on Konqueror. Dual boot C7 with Window 10

I have a laptop with windows 10. I went into the Windows disk manager and shrunk the volume to make room for C7. That worked. I also changed the BIOS from secure boot to "both" (secure/legacy) I installed C7, went fine. About the time it was done I realized I never saw anything about "other" boot options (seems I saw that in the past). Anyway sure enough, got done and C7 boots fine - no option there for Windows. I did searching and found I needed to add to the /etc/grub.d/40_custom the following: menuentry "Windows 10" { set root='(hd0,1)' chainloader +1 } then re-run the grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg I then rebooted and sure enough I got the menu item for "Windows 10" however when I select it it does not boot. How do I get Windows 10 to boot again ? Thanks, Jerry

Suddenly increased my hard disk

Hi All, I have running Centos 6.5 32 bit machine. This machine is running qmailtoaster packages and mailbox size is 385 GB. if i run the df -h command it show 385 GB out of 1TB I have run the same command today suddenly shows 576 GB out of 1 TB. I didn't update any bulk file and mail transaction is not very high. How do i check this issue and fix it. how do i find out and why suddenly showing this much of increasing the size of hard disk. Hi, I administer a postfix mail server on CentOS 6. Now I want to setup another with similar configuration. But the postgrey package is no longer available in Epel for this CentOS release as I have seen now: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/package/rpms/postgrey/ 1. Will I have to make an upgrade of the existing mail server to get security patches again or is it not critical to use the old package? 2. Problem updating ddclient

when I ran "sudo yum update" on my CentOS-7.2.1511 today, ddclient was updated to ddclient-3.8.3-1.el7.noarch (from 3.7.3), and ddclient.conf was moved to ddclient.conf.rpmsave . When I move it back, "sudo systemctl restart ddclient" fails with the error (in "sudo journalctl -xe | grep ddclient") Apr 21 13:05:39 alfred.gayleard.eu.localdomain touch[8590]: /bin/touch: cannot touch ‘/var/cache/ddclient/ddclient.cache’: Permission denied I see that when updating ddclient a new group ddclient was created. I've tried various methods, eg deleting ddclient.cache, re-installing ddclient, creating a new ddclient.cache owned by root.ddclient, etc, but without success. Running "sudo systemctl restart ddclient" either fails, or hangs. Any advice gratefully received. With CentOS 7.2 a laptop wireless card is recognized in dmesg, but nonfunctional. Toggling the hardware wifi switch causes the Bluetooth icon to appear and disappear. The network configuration window shows the Wireless tab greyed out. Rebooting with the bluetooth enabled does not help. It appears the appropriate driver is iwlwifi, which is what works in Fedora and appears to be available and installed in CentOS. lspci gives 08:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 2230 (rev c4) 1. How do I get this working? I am happy to work with command line tools. 2. Are there other packages I need? I installed wireless-tools, and tried to fiddle with iwconfig and NetworkManager to no avail. iwconfig does seem to interact with the wifi device. 3. Is there documentation I should be following to understand/troubleshoot networking support? https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops/Wireless does not document the iwlwifi driver.

how do I use only black ink?

I have an HP Photosmart C3180 All-in-one. As I haven't had any need for color lately, when I last replaced ink, I only replaced the black cartridge. It didn't work, even when printing grayscale-only images, even when telling print-set-up grayscale-only. Is there a way to tell my printer to use only the black ink cartridge. I already had a CA working, so issuing certificates was easy. The HOW-TO guides were less helpful than I could hope, but comparing several of them, applying common sense, and trying things out, I arrived at a dead-end. Here's essentially what happened: - None of the HOW-TOs were very clear about the need to add some attributes to a certificate, keyUsage and extendedKeyUsage. They had different values for server and client. OpenSSL documentation was a big vague on how to add them, but I think I did - the print out of the entity certificates showed the values. The attempt to connect failed. The client log is below. I think it's complaining that the CA certificate doesn't have the ke Usage extension, which makes no sense to me. Such an extension should be in the end-entity certificate, not the CA's, unless I'm wrong. I checked the server and really think that the certificates are in the right place. To review the situation: Client: A windows 7 laptop, and it definitely moves around. Server: Centos 6 running in my home.
