Fail2Ban Centos 7 is there a trick to making it work?

Been working on fail2ban, and trying to make it work with plain Jane install of Centos 7 Machine is a HP running 2 Quad core Xeons, 16 gig or ram and 1 plus TB of disk space. Very generic and vanilla. Current available epel repo version is fail2ban-0.9.1 Looking at the log file, fail2ban starts and stops fine, there isn't output though showing any login attempts being restricted. 2015-03-09 12:54:37,930 fail2ban.server [14805]: INFO Stopping all jails 2015-03-09 12:54:37,931 fail2ban.server [14805]: INFO Exiting Fail2ban 2015-03-09 12:54:38,338 fail2ban.server [16678]: INFO Changed logging target to /var/log/fail2ban.log for Fail2ban v0.9.1 2015-03-09 12:54:38,341 fail2ban.database [16678]: INFO Connected to fail2ban persistent database '/var/lib/fail2ban/fail2ban.sqlite3' I copied jail.conf and added the edited jail.local to the directory /etc/fail2ban/ This is about as far as I have gotten with searches on how to configure with Centos 7. Any help would be welcome. What am I missing? john

mod_clamav, apache and centos6?

I'm trying to get mod_clamav working with Apache on a CentOS 6.6 box - without much luck ... I'm using httpd 2.2.15-39.el6.centos.x86_64 with clamav 0.98.6-1.el6.x86_64 (from EPEL) and mod_clamav 0.23 compiled from source via http://software.othello.ch/mod_clamav/ The mod_clamav source hasn't been updated in nearly 6 years - so may well no longer work with more recent versions of Apache or Clamav ... Before I spend too much time on this - I was wondering if anyone has this set up working, or should I give up and try something else? Thanks James Pearson

LVM encryption and new volume group

Hello list, I bought a Thinkpad T420 and installed CentOS 7 recently. I choosed to use lvm encryption for the entire volume group. It works so far. But now I am planning to install a second hard disk. My thought is to create a new volume group on this additional disk. But how can I integrate/do this according to the existing encryption so that it will be decrypted by the same passphrase I use at startup? Regards and thanks in advance Tim

mariadb driver for named-sdb (CentOS 7)

I've looked high and low and I cannot a package that has the mariadb driver to go with bind-sdb-9.9.4-14.el7_0.1.x86_64. Everything I'm finding is how to build from source, which for this project will not be maintainable. Is there a yum repo with this driver anywhere? Thanks much, Jim

The access rules are a bit minimal. Do they seem OK to you for a LAN? Any suggestions? How to install tp_smapi and acpi_call kernel modules

Hello, I've got a Thinkpad T420 and would like to use full tlp functionality. Therefore I need the kernel module tp_smapi and acpi_call. Have a look right here: http://linrunner.de/en/tlp/docs/tlp-linux-advanced-power-management.html#in… There are only fedora related packages but none for RHEL/CentOS. Should I install that repo and hardcode the mirror to the fc21 repo? Regards Tim

Something like apt-cacher for CentOS/RHEL?

Hi, For some time I've fiddled with Debian and Ubuntu LTS. There's one really nice feature for local networks: apt-cacher, a package proxy for APT. My company is in the remote South French countryside, and more often than not, schools and public libraries only have some very limited Internet access with relatively low bandwidth, which can make the updating process very tedious. A package cache comes in very handy in such situation. Do you know if something like this exists for RPM-based distributions? Sieve Filter: All email not from friendly name?

I'm using Dovecot and Sieve under postfix on CentOS 6. Sieve filters are working great for a number of addresses. I'm trying to set up a sieve filter that catches all email NOT from Cron Daemon. Nearly all Admin messages come from "Cron Daemon <username@servername>" so I want a Sieve Filter that will catch all addresses NOT from this address and stick it into a folder under INBOX/ProbablySpam but while other filters seem to work fine, this one does not. My best guess so far: if anyof (not address :all :contains ["From"] "Cron Daemon") { fileinto "INBOX.ProbablySpam"; } ... It passes validation checking in KMail, but seems to catch all inbound messages. What am I missing? Thanks, Ben

What is the difference between xorg-x11-fonts-75dpi and xorg-x11-fonts-100dpi? Under what circumstances would one want to use the 75dpi version versus the 100dpi version? If you have both installed, does the xorg server just pick the one that it considers best based on some criteria? Should you have both installed? Is anything gained by having both installed? CentOS7 buggy freeradius

Bonjour, It seems that freeradius 3.0.1-6.el7 of centOS 7 don't work. When doing very simple authentification (PAP control of ssh login on a switch), I get a segmentation fault when the first accounting packet arrives on the server. Does anyone test succesfully this version of freeradius ? SELinux kills Cassandra based website

Hey all, There's a website I help run that uses the Cassandra DB as its database. I notice that if I run the web server in SELinux permissive mode, the site works fine. Gnome2 Desktop mute buttons for mic and video

CentOS-6.6 Does anyone know of an application that would provide a 'mute' buttons for video and audio that could be used from a desktop panel? Ideally this would show the status (muted/cloaked or open mic/recording) of each. Presently, turning audio and video pick-ups off and on is rather cumbersome. And I often forget what state I have left them in. Which occasionally makes for some confusing moments trying to debug a non-existent problem. My hardware is: CPU: Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU E3845 @ 1.91GHz and it supports EIST(Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology). OS: CentOS 7(kernel-3.10) When I set the BIOS options "CPU configuration >> EIST" to "enable", it appears a kernel panic when the system is starting up. Here is what I am seeing: ...... Fast TSC calibration failed. [Hardware Error] CPU 3: Machine Check Exception: 4 Bank 0: 9000000020000003 ...... Machine check: Invalid. Panic - not syncing. Fatal machine check on current CPU. Rebooting in 30 seconds. By reading the Intel-programming-manual, the MCE means: Machine Check Exception: 4 -- MCG_STATUS_MCIP Bank 0: 9000000020000003 -- 0x9000 -- 1001 0000 0000 0000 -- IA32_MCi_Status MSR register 0x0003 -- 0000 0000 0000 0011 -- External Error, The BINIT# from another processor caused this processor to enter machine check. and seems it is an external bus error. If I DISABLED the BIOS option "EIST", there will be no error or panic. If I change to CentOS 6.5/6.6(kernel 2.6), there will be no error or panic even when "EIST" is ON. So, it should be a bug in kernel source of CentOS 7(kernel-3.10). Ps: kernel source v3.10 from kernel.org is OK Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Extdata / Extprograms Plugins for Dovecot Pigeonhole?

Hello, I want to install Dovecot Pigeonhole and use the Extdata and Extprograms plugins. According to the dovecot documentation[1,2], those plugins need to be compiled. So two questions: * Are either of these plugins built into the Pigeonhole that is available in the CentOS 7 extras repo? * Is it possible to use these plugins with Pigeonhole installed from yum? Does the compilation requirement mean that I have to remove not only Pigeonhole, but also Dovecot itself from my system and build everything by hand? :-( PS - Is there another version of Pigeonhole in a repo elsewhere (like EPEL or DAG?) that might have what I want? Memory issue in kernel sctp implementation

Dear all, I'm running into a possible memory issue with the SCTP implementation in CentOS 6, using lksctp-tools. So far I've not seen the problem with other distributions yet. The problem is that whenever a SCTP client connection is initiated to a second host and port at which no SCTP server application is listening The scenario is simple: - call socket() to create a socket. - call sctp_connectx() to establish a connection. The last call is repeated periodically to retry to establish a connection. When looking on the wire using wireshark it shows that an SCTP INIT packet is sent to the second host, which replies with an SCTP ABORT. This is exactly according to the SCTP specification. However it appears ABORT isn't propagated into to application layer that calls sctp_connectx(). Furthermore, because reconnect attempts are made, a steady memory increasement occurs. Looking at /proc/meminfo, the increasement occurs in SUnreclaim, the kernel slab cache. Can you advice if this can be an issue with the SCTP implementation in the kernel? Maybe an issue solved upstream, but not (yet) backported into centos 6? Do I really have to use a separate cert and key for dovecot? disk space trouble on ec2 instance

Hey all, Ok, so I've been having some trouble for a while with an EC2 instance running CentOS 5.11 with a disk volume reporting 100% usage. Root is on an EBS volume. So I've tried the whole 'du -sk | sort -nr | head -10' routine all around this volume getting rid of files. At first I was getting rid of about 50MB of files. Yet the volume remains at 100% capacity. Thinking that maybe the OS was just not letting go of the inodes for the files on the disk, I attempted rebooting the instance. After logging in again I did a df -h / on the root volume. And look! Still at 100% capcity used. Grrr.... Ok so I then did a du -h on the /var/www directory, which was mounted on the root volume. And saw that it was gobbling up 190MB of disk space. So then I reasoned that I could create an EBS volume, rsync the data there, blow away the contents of /var/www/* and then mount the EBS volume on the /var/www directory. So I went through that exercise and lo and behold. Still at 100% capacity. Rebooted the instance again. Logged in and.. still at 100% capacity. Here's how the volumes are looking now. Like the fact that neither mysql nor my backup program - bacula will even think of starting up and functioning! I'm at a loss to explain how I can delete 190MB worth of data, reboot the instance and still be at 100% usage. I'm at my wits end over this. Strange crash after NVidia driver installation from ELRepo

Hi, I just had the weirdest of system crashed. Here goes. I wanted to install a desktop step by step, as I usually do. First the base system, then the X Window System, then the WindowMaker window manager. Everything went OK, then I installed kmod-nvidia from ELRepo. Yum informed me that the driver conflicted with x11-glamor (something like that), so I removed the corresponding package. While doing all this, the system still defaulted to boot in console mode (meaning multi-user.target and not graphical.target). To test X, I just launched WindowMaker using startx. Anyway, I rebooted, and then... nothing. System refused even to startup, and systemd suggested to me that I open journalctl (which taught me nothing). Right now I've started a Slax LiveCD to backup all my data and reinstall the whole thing from scratch. I don't have the slightest clue as to what could possibly have happened here. The only thing I wonder: could it be that installing the kmod-nvidia driver while booting to a default console (and not graphical) could lead to this weirdness? A previous installation on that machine went OK, but the difference was that the first time, I started with a full GNOME installation right away. Any suggestions? Niki

Amanda Testing RPMs

It was noted in CentOS Bug 7795 that the amanda package in CentOS does not have dump or xfsdump support: http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=7795 I found that it is also like this upstream and they plan to fix it at some point: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1140321 In the mean time, I have created 2 sets of RPMs .. one with dump support and one with dump and xfsdump support: Dump Only: http://people.centos.org/hughesjr/c7-amanda/dump-only/ Dump and XFSDump: http://people.centos.org/hughesjr/c7-amanda/xfs-support/ If we can get some people who actually use amanda to check these files and feedback into the CentOS Bug (7795 link above), we might help the RHEL team with deciding how to compile the fix (with dump only or dump and xfsdump support). Please feedback to the CentOS-Devel mailing list or bug 7795. installing C7 on a laptop with Win7, dual boot

Hi all! I've just installed C7 on my netbook that already contained Win7 (and also Fedora 19, which the C7 is intended to replace). The Fedora installer had found the windows installation and it appeared in the grub menu, and was bootable and worked fine. The C7 installer did not put the windows installation into the grub menu. with some googling I found a page at https://priteshugrankar.wordpress.com/2014/09/12/dual-booting-centos-7-and-… that gives a simple recipe for fixing this problem. basically: cp /boot/grub2/grub.cfg orig.grub.cfg grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg with (on his system) the second command above producing this output: [root@localhost ~]# grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg Generating grub configuration file ... Correct, the grub2-mkconfig command doesn't emit lines about windows, but it puts the above lines into the resulting (grub2/grub.cfg) file - towards the bottom. X11 fonts question

I'm having trouble figuring out which RPM would contain X11 fonts that go by names containing: "-courier-medium-r-*-18-" "-courier-bold-r-*-18-" "-courier-medium-o-*-18-" in sizes 18 (shown), 14, and 12. so far I can't figure it out. I've looked at the contents of all the xorg-x11-fonts-* packages that "yum list available | grep xorg-x11-fonts" lists. The best I've come up with is a bunch that contain files named "*-courXXXX-*" followed by some uppercase characters whose meaning I don't know (where I show "XXXX" above). NFS and inode64

Well, we got it working. However, the issue we're now worried about is users creating files and subdirectories. Do we need to worry, and if so, is there some way to reserve inodes < 32k table, other than creating tens of thousands of dummy files now? We don't want, a year or two down the road, for this system to be running, and suddenly everything's broken, because all lower inodes have been used.

Looking for a life-save LVM Guru

Dear All, I am in desperate need for LVM data rescue for my server. I have an VG call vg_hosting consisting of 4 PVs each contained in a separate hard drive (/dev/sda1, /dev/sdb1, /dev/sdc1, and /dev/sdd1). And this LV: lv_home was created to use all the space of the 4 PVs. Right now, the third hard drive is damaged; and therefore the third PV (/dev/sdc1) cannot be accessed anymore. I would like to recover whatever left in the other 3 PVs (/dev/sda1, /dev/sdb1, and /dev/sdd1). I have tried with the following: 1. Removing the broken PV: # vgreduce --force vg_hosting /dev/sdc1 Physical volume "/dev/sdc1" still in use # pvmove /dev/sdc1 No extents available for allocation 2. Replacing the broken PV: I was able to create a new PV and restore the VG Config/meta data: # pvcreate --restorefile ... --uuid ... /dev/sdc1 # vgcfgrestore --file ... vg_hosting However, vgchange would give this error: # vgchange -a y device-mapper: resume ioctl on failed: Invalid argument Unable to resume vg_hosting-lv_home (253:4) 0 logical volume(s) in volume group "vg_hosting" now active Could someone help me please??? scp -rp behavior

Hey all, I'm trying to copy configuration files from my old CentOS 6.6 32 bit machine to my new CentOS 6.6 64 bit machine. On my 32 bit machine: [mlapier@mushroom ~]$ ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:19:DB:E5:4E:9F inet addr:192.168.15.105 When I issue this command on my new 64 bit machine, 192.168.15.101: scp -pr mlapier(a)192.168.15.105: /home/mlapier/.thunderbird /home/mlapier/.thunderbird It copies all directories and files in 192.168.15.105: /home/mlapier/ to 192.168.15.101: /home/mlapier. I don't want all that, I just want the .thunderbird folder and all it's contents. The user and group account numbers match on the two machines for this user so that's not the issue. When I RTFM this is what I thought it said to do. Hi Folks, I'd like to install cyrus-imapd 2.4 in CentOS6. Found rpm cyrus 2.4 for CentOS6 on rpmseek. cyrus-imapd-2.4.17-30.1.x86_64.rpm But there are conflicts with postfix 2.6.6. Can I ignore this conflicts or is there a suitable version of ppstfix available? Thx Timothy

Odd nfs mount problem

I'm exporting a directory, firewall's open on both machines (one CentOS 6.6, the other RHEL 6.6), it automounts on the exporting machine, but the other server, not so much. ls /mountpoint/directory eventually times out (directory being the NFS mount). mount -t nfs server:/location/being/exported /mnt works... but an immediate ls /mnt gives me stale file handle. The twist on this: the directory being exported is on an xfs filesystem... one that's 33TB (it's an external RAID 6 appliance). Any ideas? mark

OT: AF 4k sector drives with 512 emulation

Still have good quality older sata hardware raid cards that require 512 bytes/sector. As far as I know HD manufacturers are not making native 512 bytes/sector drives any more. Some have better 512e emulation than others. Looking for some advice on which to avoid and which are recommended. Thanks. PS this is for a CentOS6 server.

yum causing RPC timed out?

I just installed centos 7, yum is acting strange, experiencing RPC time-outs. Sometimes when I disable the additional repos (epel and rpmforge) it seems to make things act normal. But not this time (see below). Could I have some misconfiguration? Network glitch? What hypotheses should I be considering? Install minimal system. 2. yum groupinstall "X Window System" 3. yum install gdm gnome-classic-session gnome-terminal liberation-fonts 4. Install applications as needed. A question about repositories: minimal installation (version 7) provides: CentOS-Base.repo CentOS-CR.repo CentOS-Debuginfo.repo CentOS-fasttrack.repo CentOS-Sources.repo CentOS-Vault.repo I known there are others repositories as: RPMForge, EPEL, REMI, ATrpms, Webtatic (and maybe also others) so, what kind of these repositories are? Hi there, I’m working on deploying our new cluster. Masters have 5×1gbps (i210 and i350, thus using igb.ko), configured with mtu 9000, 802.3ad. Works fine *but* I can’t get DCB working (pause frame, aka flow control, which is supported by and enabled on our switches). [root@master2 ~]# dcbtool gc eno1 dcb Command: Get Config Feature: DCB State Port: eno1 Status: Device not capable (I get the same with ELRepo 5.2.15 kmod). Intel datasheet says flow control is available. Can’t find much about it on the web or in kernel git repo. Could someone give me a hand ? Regards, Laurent.

So, I think you should be able to do just: scp -pr mlapier@192.168.15.105:.thunderbird . or at most: scp -pr mlapier@192.168.15.105:.thunderbird /home/mlapier/. If, per chance, you wanted to change the directory name on the transfer you'd need to specify it, rather than just the ".", otherwise the "." will simply put directory on the target machine with the same name as the original. - Richard

Kickstart with multiple eth devices

I have a Dell server that has two built-in ethernet devices. When I kickstart the machine, they are correctly identified as eth0 and eth1 (correctly meaning they correspond to the physical device ports 1 and 2). I need a third one and want that to come up as eth2. After adding the hardware, kickstart now fails because for some reason it goes through a rename process where it makes the newly added card eth1 (or eth0, I forgot). Is there a way to stop this rename process so kickstart correctly uses the physical hardware the way they are, meaning physical port 1 = eth0, port 2 = eth1, and the additional ethernet card then becomes eth2? Should I be using the device's MAC address when I set the 'network' option in the kickstart file? So instead of 'network --device=eth0' I make it 'network -device=aa;bb:cc:dd:eee:ff' ?

And after picking this back up this morning .... still no dice. I have now blacklisted the one module that would enumerate the add-in ethernet port so that is no longer an issue during the kickstart process, however the following is now happening: - kickstart completes successfully using the machine's physical port 2 (or eth1) which is on a subnet with DHCP - when the system reboots, it brings up port 1 (eth0) with the correct static IP information, HOWEVER ... - port 2 (eth1) is NOT configured properly. When I look at it's ifcfg-eth1 file, its bootproto is set to none when it should be set to dhcp. - the add-in card has not been enumerated, in fact the system doesn't even know it's there (dmesg has no mention of it and no module loaded) So for port 2 (eth1), the kickstart file has it configured as a dhcp interface, so why when the system reboots it comes up with bootproto=none? move a disk to another machine

I have a centos 6.6 laptop which is having trouble (intermittent boot failures, or more rightly so, multiple failures, intermittent booting). The laptop is running selinux. I pulled the second internal disk out to get my data off of it. I plugged it into my centos 5.x machine and mounted it. I was able to do a dir listing, but whrn I tried to cd into any of the directories, I get a bunch of AVC denials, and I can't see any files. The contos 5.x machine is selinux enforcing, and so is the centos 6.x box. The files are all owned by me, and have the same uid/gid on both boxes. What is the right way to do this? Meanwhile, I put it back into the laptop, and kept attempting to boot the machine, until I got lucky and it came up. I was able to rsync the data off the drive, so this isn't a crisis, just a learning moment. thanks, -chuck --

Easy way to strip down CentOS?

Hi, I wonder if there's an easy way to strip down an installation to the bare minimum, e. g. the packages you get when you select "minimum installation". In Slackware, the bone-headed package manager slackpkg has a few nice options, among which 'slackpkg clean-system', which removes all third-party packages in one single operation, or 'slackpkg remove <package_group>', which does exactly that. I know CentOS has yum groupinstall/groupremove etc. but as far as I can tell, if I only have a handful of packages from a package group installed, yum grouplist lists the group as not installed, so there's not an easy way to tell. You may wonder why I want to do this. I have CentOS installed on some sandbox machines here, and I like to fiddle with different desktops and setups just for the sake of experimenting. Replacement for NIS/NFS?

Hi, Over the last few years, I've been using a rather bone-headed solution to implement centralized authentication and roamin user profiles in Linux-based networks: a combination of NIS and NFS. I'm aware it's not ideal in terms of security, but it's been running in our local school since 2010, and it just works. The current setup is based on Slackware Linux on both server and desktop clients. Here's the relevant documentation (which I wrote): http://docs.slackware.com/howtos:network_services:roaming_profiles BTW, the first two years this solution worked perfectly with CentOS 5.x on the server and on the desktop clients. I'm currently migrating from Slackware to CentOS, and I'm looking for a "business-grade" replacement of this more or less obsolete configuration. I've read about various existing solutions, and I'm not quite sure in which direction to go from here: FreeIPA? 389 Directory Server? LDAP+LAM-Manager? Here's what I want: 1. Users should be manageable through a GUI, probably a web interface, so the client can create, manage and delete them eventually. 2. Home directories should be created/deleted automagically under the hood. 3. Every user should be able to login on any machines and find his or her files and preferences. What can you suggest? Is there some robust and well-documented solution that works more or less out of the box and doesn't make me jump through burning loops? I'm mainly using CentOS 7, but I'll also have to use CentOS 6.x since in our school we have some older hardware that won't run 7.x. Disable DHCPv6 on Cent7

So, I'm seeing a bunch of DHCPv6 traffic coming from my CentOS7 machines. Basically, the machines are trying to send router solicitations, the packets are blocked at their egress firewalls, and I get to see the logs. I don't wish to disable IPv6. I don't wish to statically configure IPv6 at this time. I wish to have the machines no longer attempting to send router solicitations as part of DHCPv6. How do I do this? I tried DHCPV6C="no" in ifcfg-ifacethatsnoteth0, but that seems to have had no effect. sssd - ldap host attribute ignored

Dear all, i have a problem with sssd in conjunction with ldap on a centos 7 x86_64 box. ldap works fine. I can login there as an usual user registred in ldap. I want now restrict the access with ldap's host attribute. This is beeing ignored. Still every ldap user can login, no matter what the host attribute says. I googled around and only found that sssd.conf need two lines: access_provider = ldap ldap_access_order = host So i do not understand why it is not working. Master - Slave Split DNS

Hi folks, I've already configured split DNS for internal-view and external-view. Also already configured the master - slave dns. But i've problem with external-view zone transfer. Based on the logs, the master notify to slave using the public ip, which is not accessible by master to transfering the zone over public ip. Making systemd start a service after sshd?

Hi folks, For complicated reasons, I'd like to have a service (lightdm) start after sshd starts. (This is on CentOS 7.) I've tried adding "sshd.service" to the lists of "Active=" and "Require=" items in /etc/systemd/system/lightdm.service (which started as a copy of /usr/lib/systemd/system/lightdm.service), but these changes don't seem to have any effect. Sshd still starts long after lightdm starts. Any suggestions? Anyone out there using pidgin and jabber? Recently, there was a redo of the organization's jabber server, (probably a Windows thing), and suddenly, instead of my usernamte@address, I get username@address/<looks like a socket id>. For example, mine, after my username@jabberserver/f862437769a069c68119dc3068e2acbd5f0eaba6, so a line and a half of garbage. Any ideas? Googling isn't finding me anything... oh, and the tech on the other end, who's using Windows, isn't seeing that, he just sees username@<jabberserver> mark

I was grasping at straws in this case to solve a strange routing problem that turned out to be a misconfigured gateway firewall. It was a very odd error because it only affected one of our off-site net-blocks. So tracking it down cause a little more hair-pulling than usual. Hey all, I'm trying to copy configuration files from my old CentOS 6.6 32 bit machine to my new CentOS 6.6 64 bit machine. On my 32 bit machine: [mlapier@mushroom ~]$ ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:19:DB:E5:4E:9F inet addr:192.168.15.105 When I issue this command on my new 64 bit machine, 192.168.15.101: scp -pr mlapier(a)192.168.15.105: /home/mlapier/.thunderbird /home/mlapier/.thunderbird It copies all directories and files in 192.168.15.105: /home/mlapier/ to 192.168.15.101: /home/mlapier. I don't want all that, I just want the .thunderbird folder and all it's contents. The user and group account numbers match on the two machines for this user so that's not the issue. When I RTFM this is what I thought it said to do. how to stop yum when networkmanager has broken resolv.conf?

So, I'm getting an error where the network service and NetworkManager apparently don't agree on how to bring up vlans on bonded nics. Things come up if you 'ifup ..' manually. I thought I'd check if there were any updates, forgetting to fix what NetworkManger had done to /etc/resolv.conf and: http://centos.arvixe.com/7.0.1406/os/x86_64/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 12] Timeout on http://centos.arvixe.com/7.0.1406/os/x86_64/repodata/repomd.xml: (28, 'Resolving timed out after 30381 milliseconds') Trying other mirror. ^C^C^C ^C^C^C Current download cancelled, interrupt (ctrl-c) again within two seconds to exit. Hey guys, I need to use iostat to diagnose a disk latency problem we think we may be having. Our products use CentOS 6.5 and we would like to deploy them with custom openssh RPMs. I have downloaded the sources from http://athena.caslab.queensu.ca/pub/OpenBSD/OpenSSH/portable and built the RPMs, but the PAM configuration file is wrong after installation. When I install the default openssh-5.3p1 RPMs from the CentOS 6.5 repository, the configuration looks like this: # cat /etc/pam.d/sshd #%PAM-1.0 auth required pam_sepermit.so auth include password-auth account required pam_nologin.so account include password-auth password include password-auth # pam_selinux.so close should be the first session rule session required pam_selinux.so close session required pam_loginuid.so # pam_selinux.so open should only be followed by sessions to be executed in the user context session required pam_selinux.so open env_params session optional pam_keyinit.so force revoke session include password-auth However, when I rebuild this exact RPM from the source and install it, I get the following: # cat /etc/pam.d/sshd #%PAM-1.0 auth required pam_stack.so service=system-auth account required pam_nologin.so account required pam_stack.so service=system-auth password required pam_stack.so service=system-auth session required pam_stack.so service=system-auth I was wondering if there are any build logs that would show how the openssh RPMs were built from the source for CentOS 6.5. ipset on CentOS6 comes with /etc/rc.d/init.d/ipset so that "service ipset reload" can be used to (re)load the configuration. CentOS7 doesn't come with an equivalent for systemd: # systemctl reload ipset.service Failed to issue method call: Unit ipset.service failed to load: No such file or directory. # systemctl start ipset.service Failed to issue method call: Unit ipset.service failed to load: No such file or directory. # find /etc -name ipset.service # What is the recommended procedure for loading the ipset configuration? No text output in login console and shell

Hello, I have a remote IBM x3550 M4 server that I try to remote control through IMM2. The problem: only the blinking cursor is visible in login console. It moves when I type. It moves to where "Login: _" should be if I press ctrl+c. I can login if I enter the correct login and password, but the shell that I get also shows only the blinking cursor and no text. I can issue commands. The server is in production and works ok. SSH works ok. CentOS 6. What I have tried: - tty[1-7] with ctrl+alt+Fxxx - 'reset' command after logging in - initctl restart tty TTY=/dev/tty2 - killing ttyS What I didn't try: - reboot would mean downtime Is there something that can be done about this? CentOS 7: software RAID 5 array with 4 disks and no spares?

Hi, I just replaced Slackware64 14.1 running on my office's HP Proliant Microserver with a fresh installation of CentOS 7. The server has 4 x 250 GB disks. Every disk is configured like this : * 200 MB /dev/sdX1 for /boot * 4 GB /dev/sdX2 for swap * 248 GB /dev/sdX3 for / There are supposed to be no spare devices. /boot and swap are all supposed to be assembled in RAID level 1 across 4 disks. The / partition is supposed to be assembled in RAID level 5 across 4 disks. With Slackware I created the arrays manually like this: # mdadm --create /dev/md1 --level=1 --raid-devices=4 --metadata=0.90 /dev/sda1 /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdc1 /dev/sdd1 # mdadm --create /dev/md2 --level=1 --raid-devices=4 --metadata=0.90 /dev/sda2 /dev/sdb2 /dev/sdc2 /dev/sdd2 # mdadm --create /dev/md3 --level=5 --raid-devices=4 --metadata=0.90 /dev/sda3 /dev/sdb3 /dev/sdc3 /dev/sdd3 Using this setup, I had 650 MB of disk space on /dev/md3. Now I tried to do the same thing with CentOS 7. Hey Y'all, I though I would resurrect a long dead mail chain. I'm looking for a good replacement for Rhythmbox. I need a pod catcher to catch podcasts and download them to my HD where I can then move them onto my mp3 player that I take to work every day. I don't need a new mp3 player so don't suggest VLC. It is not able to download podcasts. I'm in the process of provisioning my new CentOS 6.6 x86_64 machine. I have gpodder 2.19 installed on my CentOS 6.6 32 bit machine but have managed only to fail miserably at getting gpodder installed on my 64 bit machine. I see that I started this mail chain back in 2012. There was no solution then. Anyone using torque/pbs/munge?

CentOS 6.6 I've got two servers, server1 and hbs (honkin' big server). Both are running munge, and torque... *separately*. My problem is that I've got users who want to be able to submit from server1 to hbs. I see that munged can be pointed to an alternate keyfile... but is there any way to tell qsub what to use? (And yes, I got on the torque users' list, and I'm trying there, too). mark "really needs to solve this tomorrow"

Once I run firewall-lan.sh manually, everything works as expected. When I restart the server, Iptables rules are still the same. The only thing that's not activated is IP forwarding. So as far as I can tell, iptables rules are stored, but packet forwarding returns to its pristine state (not activated). What would be an orthodox way of handling this? Put "net.ipv4.ip_forward=1" in /etc/sysctl.conf? Something else? CentOS6: ntfs-3g and writing utf-8 filenames

Hello there, I know this has been widely discussed over the net, but I still can't find a way to write a file whose name contains accented characters in ntfs-3g partitions that are automatically mounted on my CentOS6 system. Whatever my locale is POSIX, en_US or en_US.utf8, I always get a: Invalid or incomplete multibyte or wide character error when I attempt to create a directory or a file when the name contains an accented char. I tried remounting manually the ntfs-3g partition using -o utf8 (and older variants: iocharset= and nls=), but it doesn't work better. My ntfs-3g disks are automatically mounted in GNOME (as fuseblk). Using ntfs-3g-2014.2.15-8.el6.x86_64 in an up-to-date CentOS6 system. Any hint? Regards, -- wwp

sw raid issue with C5.10-xen

My raid array won't boot, gives a kernel panic - attempt to kill init message and goes into endless reboots. MB is a supermicro 2P with opteron 2376 4-core cpus, centos sw raid, installed C5.3, updated as possible, currently c5.10. 5 seagate 750GB drives as raid-10 and hot spare. we set this up about 5 years ago and IIRC we set aside the first 10GB on drive 0 as a boot partition. Grub runs and the system tries to boot 2.6.18-308.20.1.el5xen, sees a dirty raid array and md: md0: raid array is not clean - starting background reconstruction which looks hopeful but then md10: not enough operational mirrors for raid 10 and then the panic and reboot. ideas? stuff to read? diagnostics? Skip creating anaconda-ks.cfg in EL7?

Hello, In EL6 I could well remove /root/anaconda-ks.cfg in %post, but not any more it seems and I like my installs clean. Setting up new spacewalk server

We have a DHCP/PXE server in a build environment, which is separate from our Spacewalk v1.5 server. We direct builds to Satellite or Spacewalk based as needed. It contains initrd & vmlinuz files for each version/arch we currently deploy for both RHEL & CEL. I'd like to keep the storage footprint to a minimum, if possible. Keeping a big directory of ISOs to loop-mount for kickstart profile distributions seems excessive, especially when DVD#1 exceeds 4GB now. Is there any way around this requirement for kickstarting?

Help with routing question.

CentOS-6.6 We have a host that has multiple IPv4 addresses aliased to eth0. The primary address is 216.185.71.x and the alias is 192.168.6.x. This host connects to devices on both netblocks without problems. Only default routing is used and it looks like this: #ip route 192.168.6.0/24 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.6.x 216.185.71.0/24 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 216.185.71.x 169.254.0.0/16 dev eth0 scope link metric 1002 default via 192.168.6.1 dev eth0 src 192.168.6.x default via 216.185.71.1 dev eth0 When the system connects to internal systems via ssh it uses the src 216.185.71.x for devices on that netblock and 192.168.6.x for devices on the other. The problem is that when we try to establish an ssh connection off-site to another netblock altogether the host uses 192.168.6.x as the source and the destination gets the public side IP address of our gateway router as the point of origin due to masquerading. I have solved this by explicitly binding ssh to the public ipv4 when connecting using the --bind=216.185.71.x parameter. But I have two questions I would like to find answers for 1. Why is ssh using the private IP in preference to the public IP when connecting to off-site addresses? 2. How does one configure the routing table on network startup to specifically detail the route particular addresses are supposed to take? But, in case this might help, you can configure mock to use locally provided repos and different architectures via the --configdir parameter. You provide an architecture specific config file like epel-6-x86_64.cfg in the specified directory and alter it to require packages to suit a specific build requirement.
