flac/sox/etc with mp3 support?

I need to convert a bunch of .flac files to .mp3 files, but the sox and flac command tools thats in the base repo won't do that. EPEL doesn't seem to have much either. I went looking at ATRPMS but am getting database errors from their home page :( I know rpmforge used to have this stuff, but its virtually unmaintained today so I've written it off. any suggestions? sshd key exchange security

I was reading https://weakdh.org/sysadmin.html They also have a very interesting paper as a PDF. Anyway it appears that most ssh servers, when using DHE key exchange, use the 1024-bit Oakley Group 2 and there is suspicion the NSA has done the pre-computations needed to passively decrypt any tls communication using DHE with that particular prime group. They recommend setting the following: KexAlgorithms curve25519-sha256(a)libssh.org I don't even see that directive in my sshd config to set it, I suppose it may be one that is manually added when needed but I want to verify it actually means something in CentOS 7 ssh. Also I'm a little worried that maybe curve25519 is one of the curves that Red Hat (and thus CentOS 7) doesn't support due to patent concerns. If it is, is there a suggestion on what curve should be used instead?

I have a VBox VM running CentOS 6.7 and I want to extract the content of a 14G tar file. CPU Scheduling allocates more time for few threads

Hi I have a Virtual Machine with CentOS 7 64-bit having 6 CPUs (intel). I have a process with 10 threads. two threads of the process pinned to two CPU's using affinity. These threads processes lot of network messages via Sockets. Other threads wait for other events using pthread condition wait. When two threads CPU reaches 75 to 80% then the schedular, schedules most of the time for those two threads, even though remaining 4 CPU's are ideal. Due to this other threads event processing is delayed a lot. Is it mostly do to more signal's from kernel space to user space tor those threads ? Is there a way to avoid this issue? RegardsRadha

Rebuilding a Centos 6.2 netinstall initrd with an updated driver?

Hi all, It seems that with the release of the X99 motherboards, a lot of vendors are shifting away from using Realtek ethernet on board NICs and using Intel. Our main distro. on the floor is Centos 6.2 for numerous reasons. Efforts are being made toward 7.1, but not there yet. Anyway, the new Intel NICs are recognised by Centos 6.6 netinstall ISO when booting, but not Centos 6.2. I have had the idea of unpacking the initrd and using the e1000/e1000e drivers from 6.6, and updating the 6.2 initrd. This has not worked so far, but I'm hoping I've missed a step. I have: 1) unpacked both initrd's 2) updated modules.* from the 6.2 initrd to match 6.6 for the relevant modules/dependent modules 3) updated the pci.ids file 4) chrooted, run `depmod -a -v` 5) rebuilt the initrd 6.2 still fails to see the NIC. Is there a step I've missed here? Do I have to concern myself with the kernel(vmlinuz) file too?

Hi Everyone, I'm running an IPA server on CentOS 7 successfully and now I want to change my Dovecot setup to use GSSAPI for IMAP authentication instead of a flat "userdb" file. I've already joined the Dovecot box to the IPA domain - ssh and ipa policies and all that are working properly. Has anyone gotten this to work? Im studing for my rhce and was trying to get this to work and its just not working like it shows in the book im going by. So basically I have two centos 7 servers running under kvm.. One is the nfs server, one is the nfs client.. I have been mounting up other NFS shares on the client and they work fine.. The automounter also seems to mount direct mounts fine as well.. But when I try to do home directories, it just doesnt work.. on my server (named server1), Im exporting /home as /home server2(rw,sync,no_root_squash) on my client, ive got [root@server2 ~]# grep home /etc/auto.master /home /etc/auto.home --timeout=120 and [root@server2 ~]# cat /etc/auto.home * -rw,soft,intr server1:/home/& [root@server2 ~]# and on server1, ive got the selinux enabled, but have the following booleans set. [root@server1 ~]# getsebool -a | grep nfs_ nfs_export_all_ro --> on nfs_export_all_rw --> on use_nfs_home_dirs --> on [root@server1 ~]# so when I try to switch to my user on server2 (client), I get [root@server2 ~]# su - user1 Last login: Wed Sep 9 16:25:27 EDT 2015 on pts/0 su: warning: cannot change directory to /home/user1: No such file or directory -bash-4.2$ and theres nothing in the logs that I can find as to why the automount isnt working.. Remote auth against Active Directory

I've got a new CentOS 7 server going into a remote location. I have local servers that authenticate against Active Directory (2012 if it matters) using winbindd. I'd like to have some method of using AD on the remote server, but I need to be able to access it if the network path to the AD servers is down. sssd caching won't do AFAIK (since that's just a cache that times out). This server is going to have out-of-band network access for remote management in case of network failure, so having access to it when it can't reach AD is its primary purpose. I'd like to use our existing AD setup (rather than manage local users) to make it easier to manage users/passwords. Is there a relatively simple method to replicate a chunk of the AD users/passwords to a remote CentOS server (I don't care about the SSO side of things)? Folks Working in Centos 7, and with GNOME (three, I presume), installed, I tried to add the Xfce desktop and got a message: Error: Package: openssh-askpass-6.6.1p1-11.el7.x86_64 (base) Requires: openssh = 6.6.1p1-11.el7 Installed: openssh-6.6.1p1-12.el7_1.x86_64 (@updates) .... Should I try "-skip-broken", or wait until those packages are fixed? Shouldn't the repositories always be consistent? Thanks David

setting up solr/tomcat gives 404 page

Hey all, I tried following a few guides and I'm struggling with trying to setup apache solr 4.10 under apache tomcat 7.0.64 along with the drupal config necessary to get that this working with drupal. The latest guide I followed was this one which seemed like it might work: http://duntuk.com/how-install-apache-solr-46-apache-tomcat-7-use-drupal I followed everything to the letter and ended up with a 404 status page when I hit http://ipaddress:8080/solr I think the answer lies in putting the renaming the 'collection1' core to the right location under the name 'drupal'. But how to do that seems to be left out of that tutorial. In the tomcat logs I just see the following: 100.116.32.93 - - [09/Sep/2015:16:52:56 -0400] "GET /solr HTTP/1.1" 404 959 Which isn't very informative!! Hello, I have enabled for a Domain DNSSEC and it working correct, after I change the rights for /var/named to root:named 0770 but after a update it is always change back to root:named 0750 after this, DNSSEC don't work any more? named have no right to write his secure files. NFS client kernel panic

Hi everyone, I have an issue with NFS client when the NFS client loose connection with the NFS server. In certain conditions the NFS client freeze and the result is kernel panic. It seems that kernel panic occurs when the NFS client try to unmount the unreachable remote NFS partition. This case occurs about one time each two days. bind chroot, bind mounts and selinux

Hi All, I'm migrating a CentOS 6 bind instance (chrooted) to a CentOS 7 box and am curious of people's opinions on chrooting vs selinux as a way of securing bind. The bind-chroot on CentOS 7 also comes with a script (/usr/libexec/setup-named-chroot.sh) that sets up the much maligned systemd and, through bind mounts, creates and extra level of chroot hierarchy giving: /var/named/chroot/var/named/chroot/var/named which seems totally unnecessary. I'm sure that bind-chroot would be happy enough running without the bind mounts but would I be loosing anything in terms of security? Also, would I bother with chrooting at all if selinux can secure the environment for me? My own opinions aside what do others think and has anyone had experience with this? I'm a little late getting around to it, but I got a chance yesterday to look at this again and followed the steps to enable the ELRepo repository and installed the `kmod-nvidia` package. Once I did so, I was given a warning that there was a conflict with libglamoregl and to see the wiki page for more details. I looked on the site and found this page: http://elrepo.org/tiki/kmod-nvidia which covered not only that issue (basically run `yum remove xorg-x11-glamor`) but also emphasized that 'kmod-nvidia' might not work for some older chipsets and that the 'nvidia-detect' package should be installed and run to check for compatibility. I did so and got this output: kmod-nvidia Optimus hardware detected: An Intel display controller was detected Either disable the Intel display controller in the BIOS or use the bumblebee driver to suport Optimus hardware Now that the 'kmod-nvidia' driver was installed I rebooted the laptop to load it upon boot. Since I had rebooted, I checked my BIOS settings and sure enough I had the 'Enable Optimus' box selected. Figuring myself clever (ha), I disabled the option and attempted to boot the laptop. I got a blinking cursor against a black background and the password prompt to decrypt the disk and finish booting was never given. Since Ctrl+Alt+Del didn't appear to work, I held the power button and forced the laptop off. I then re-enabled the option and when the laptop next booted I got the password prompt to decrypt the disk and the laptop got to the point where Gnome should have loaded, but the system went no further. My notes are unclear at this point whether I was referring to the login window not displaying or whether it did and just logging into the desktop environment didn't work. I then installed the 'bumblebee' package and I was able to login without locking up the system. I then wiped the laptop, disabled the Optimus support in BIOS and did a clean installation making sure to use the same settings for the new installation as the old. The system booted up and I logged into KDE with no issues and the laptop remained powered on. Presumably the Optimus option was the issue all along. In summary: * If I have the Optimus option enabled I need to enable the ELRepo repository and install the kmod-nvidia (presumably) and bumblebee packages. * If I have the Optimus option disabled it appears that I don't need to do anything else other than install CentOS 7 normally and use it. Working with PEM content

Hi, If I need to script some management of text files with PEM content, are there already some tools that exist that do this safely? e.g. somecert.pem that might contain -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE----- blah blah -----END CERTIFICATE----- -----BEGIN DH PARAMETERS----- more blah -----END DH PARAMETERS----- What I would like is a utility that can read that file, remove the DH parameters, write new file, validate new file is valid PEM contents, and give exit status 0 on success. Could be done with standard scripting methods but I'm guessing a perl or python tool already exists that won't have me hitting myself when I make a stupid scripting mistake. Google and Bing lately though seem to be getting harder and harder for me to use to find that kind of stuff. Suggestions?

CUPS not generating a printcap file

According to all of the documentation I can find, an /etc/printcap file (or whatever filename is specified with the Printcap directive) is generated by cupsd ever time a printer is added or removed. On all of my CentOS 6.7 systems, this is NOT happening. I can restart cups and add or remove printers over and over and it still doesn't generate the printcap file. Saving session with terminal window open upon logout

When I log out of a user account, I want it to, when I log back in, have a terminal window pop up on my Gnome windows display, as I did before I logged out. BackupPC problem - wrong user

I recently moved BackupPC from CentOS-6 to CentOS-7. But when I browse to localhost/BackupPC I'm told Error: Wrong user: my userid is 48[apache], instead of 984(backuppc) As far as I can tell, the BackupPC settings are exactly the same as they were before the move. It seems htttpd is running the program as user apache rather than backuppc, as required. C6 firefox esr h.264 support on youtube

I was able to get h.264 support on www.youtube.com/html5 on fedora 21 by installing gstreamer1-libav but that package does not exist in C6 (or it's popular third party repos) What is the name of the package which adds h.264 to firefox on youtube/html5 in C6?

rsync question

I am trying to rsync the named files under /etc for backup purposes. I tried: rsync -ah --stats --delete -e "ssh -p613 -l root" 192.168.192.2:/etc/name* /home/rgm/data/htt/httnet/homebase/new/etc The stats shows it sees all the files, but only moves the dir /etc/named and the files within it. It does not move the /etc/name* files (like /etc/named.conf). By file count, it is 'seeing' all the files, but not moving them.

latest yum update messed up chrome

I yum updated yesterday and it updated chrome from 44.x to 45.x. It runs but it has errors going to web pages and won't load its own settings/extension pages either. Is TLS required for the usage of Spice with KVM/libvirtd? I've been through the virt-install manpage a few times now to no avail. What is wrong with my syntax here (seen below)? I am playing with gstreamer on CentOS 7.1 . All the packages are there except gst-rtsp-server.... OK - So I went to look for it to compile it. Found a version that was NOT 1.0.7 and my compile stopped because it said the versions are not the same.... OK so went back to look for 1.0.7 and its not there. I looked at: http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/src/gst-rtsp-server Any thoughts on how I might find this package so it compiles? Thanks, Jerry

Starting emacs gives "shmget failed: error 28" message

In CentOS 6.7, if I start emacs from a terminal session, I always see a message, "(emacs:{PID}): Gdk-WARNING **: shmget failed: error 28 (No space left on device)" The message is also logged to .xsession-errors, and that occurs regardless of how emacs is started. The same thing occurs with SELinux in permissive mode. Emacs version is emacs-23.1-28.el6.x86_64 . Output from strace shows: shmget(IPC_PRIVATE, 393216, IPC_CREAT|0600) = -1 ENOSPC (No space left on device) /proc/mounts contains: tmpfs /dev/shm tmpfs rw,seclabel,relatime 0 0 and "df /dev/shm" shows: Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on tmpfs 8194164 172 8193992 1% /dev/shm I can't identify any behavior problems that I can relate to this, but it seems that something is wrong. Upgrade of CentOS 6.6 to 6.7

After the upgrade, I was encountering a "network unreachable" error. This happens on kernel versions -> 2.6.32-573.1 .1-el6.x86_64 and 2.6.32-573.3.1-el6.x86_64. If I revert back to 2.6.32.504.30.3.el6.x86_64, the problem goes away. I've been searching frantically without much luck. I have found references to the same error on bugs.centos.org but no resolution as of yet. Has anyone else encountered this? If so, what did you do to resolve it? semi-OT: help needed w/ bareos

I've got it installed on a 6.7 server, and can back up and restore for Linux. Now I'm trying to do it for some users' WinDoze boxes. Trouble is, all I keep finding on the Web are "how to set it up on Linux", "how to install on Windoze", and how to restore.... First question: how do you *see* a list of the files that have been backed up (you're not going to tell me that's a postgresql thing, are you?)? Second: I've been looking, and am having trouble finding examples of configuring the bareos-dir for a win client. I *think* I did it right, but I get warnings. For the fileset, I have FileSet { Name = "<winclientname>set" Include { Options { Signature = MD5 # calculate md5 checksum per file } File = "c:\Users" } } But the logs *seem* to be saying it only copied one file. Clues for the poor? mark

Im my case (bacula 5.x.x) it is forward slash for Windows clients as well. I know one way to test it: make a backup, then restore, then compare. groupadd failure

The munin rpms from EPEL failed to install correctly on a particular machine. This is why # /usr/sbin/groupadd -r munin groupadd: Can't get unique system GID (no more available GIDs) # but I don't understand why this happens. Even after checking the man pages for groupadd and login.defs, I have been unable to determine what the settings for SYS_GID_MIN/SYS_GID_MAX on RHEL/CentOS are. None of the 5/6 machines I have access to list them in login.defs. Even assuming relatively conservative values of 201/499, resp. (examples from other distros include 101/999), this doesn't add up. # grep munin /etc/group # ypmatch munin group # wc -l /etc/group 100 /etc/group # grep SYS_GID /etc/login.defs # Any ideas? Information seems to be pretty thin on the ground.
