Does CentOS7 targetcli work to serve out to XEN hosts?

I have been successful at getting one XEN host to initiate a iSCSI connection to a target served by CentOS7, but not a second XEN host. xe sr-create complains the StorageRepository is in use. Is there a configuration change? Another iSCSI target server to use?

Spamassassin: last step

I'm running CentOS-7 on my home server, and have setup postfix + dovecot + spamassassin. Everything seems to be working fine, except that while spam is being marked as ***Spam***, it is ending up in ~/Maildir/cur/ . I'd like to divert it to ~/Maildir/.Spam/ (where I can examine it with sa-learn). Thanks for the suggestions. My case ended up being a large local variable (stack data)that was fine before and not fine on CentOS 7. If found it by #ifdef entire main function, my program then ran. I then just started letting in chunks of code to narrow it down. jerry

Hey guys, I tried installing the latest fuse on CentOS 7.1. I downloaded the latest version (2.9.4) from sourceforge and did a source install. Hi, Could anybody give me some advice, how to define virtual machine type "pc-i440fx-2.1" on latest centos 7.1? I need to live migrate vms from debian based hypervisor and I get an error about unsupported machine types, because on centos there are different naming "pc-i440fx-rhel7.1.0". -- Marius Vaitiekūnas

Why can't the CentOS get dynamic IP address in WIFI environment?

I find the guest CentOS can works OK when using ethernet cable, but can't get IP address via wireless network. Mail Merge data to a pdf file by overlaying the data on the image

Everyone, I am looking for a utility that I can use to do a mail merge of data to a pdf image file. The image file does not have any active fields, but will be just an image file. I would like to overlay names addresses etc. We currently do this with a pcl file by just overlaying the data with pcl print positions. However, in order to get the pcl file from an original pdf file we have to use gimp to convert the pdf to pcl file, and we always lose a little resolution. I was wondering if anyone knows of a utility to perform this function without first converting the image to a pcl file. Thanks, -- Greg Ennis

less for CentOS6 with POSIX regex?

When I started using CentOS 6 instead of CentOS 5, I discovered that "less" no longer understood \< and \>, which I had been used to using since almost forever. Eventually research revealed that in the Fedora version on which RHEL 6 was based, "less" had been built with the PCRE regex library instead of a POSIX one. So instead of \< and \>, I had to use \b. I found a bugzilla entry about this, which showed that the change had been reverted in a later Fedora release. So I tested CentOS 7, and found "less" has been reverted to using POSIX regex, which I'm glad about. What I want to know is: do any repos have a replacement version of "less" for CentOS 6 that has been built with POSIX regex, so that I don't have to keep switching between the two styles when working on different CentOS versions? In the past I've booted up with a GNU/Linux live CD that has GParted and enlarged the partition that Windows occupies. Expect Windows to do a check disk (I think) following the resize. Or [instead of using GParted] I'd expect you could boot to a live environment and use fdisk to delete the Windows partition (after marking down the start of the existing partition). Then create an NTFS partition in the same place that is of the larger desired size. From there you might be able to boot your Windows OS and have it resize ... but I don't know for certain (though worth a test if you have a backup and don't mind testing it!). If you were feeling adventurous, you could also loopback mount it and choose my second suggestion with fdisk. But if you had gparted or ntfs-3g you could also use utilities to manipulate the disk and file system. First, check your "target" level (previously called runlevel), with the command: systemctl get-default As the notes in the /etc/inittab file (which isn't used any longer) indicate, you can use the "systemctl set-default ..." command to change your target/runlevel to graphical. If you have a graphical interface installed that should get you to it when you reboot after changing your target level. MATE is in the EPEL repository. You should look at: <http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories> for details on it, and other 3rd party repositories, and how to set it up. I installed CentOS 7 from the DVD iso file: CentOS-7-x86_64-DVD-1503-01.iso Yum update was used (with no update issues) to install and update many packages. The installer is significantly different from CentOS 6 where one can basicallychoose to "install everything" if one has the patience to check all productsand all software options within those categories. During the CentOS 7 install,the "Development Workstation" was selected with all options checked. The new gnome Desktop menu bar still has Applications and Places, but the Systemmenu is gone. I even tried installing the minimal CentOS 7 system and then addingthe gnome, but that yielded the same result, still no System menu item on the bar. One interesting fact is that the RH admin guide actually refers to the System menu and other items on the menu bar but some of them are actually absent. Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux-7-Desktop_Migration_and_Administration_Guide-en-US.pdf Can anyone provide assistance in getting the system menu back in gnome. Thanks

What has happened to the CentOS logo?

Has the CentOS logo disappeared from CentOS-7? I thought the logo in CentOS-6 was very pleasant. Also I liked the way in which one increasing circle inside another showed how the boot was progressing. The dots going round and round in Microsoft fashion in CentOS-7 is a retrograde step, I think. Good afternoon Support Team, I have discovered a disturbing error inside anaconda-ks.cfg under the /root directory. Examination found the config file devoid of the string "buns". It's distressing, because I don't understand how my Anaconda can get anything done if it doesn't happen to have any buns. Please advise I need to know how to continue. creating RPMs from CRAN tarballs

This is not specifically a CentOS question, but I am creating RPMS for CentOS 6 from some CRAN tarballs. I run R2spec -s tarball to create a spec file, and most of the time it works ok, but sometimes (RPostgresSQL, Rcpp for example) the package has test or example programs that start with #!/usr/bin/r with lower case r, and the resulting package then winds up with a dependency on /usr/bin/r, which can't be resolved. So far I have solved it by editing all the files and replacing with /usr/bin/R, recreating the tarball and going through the process again, but I have to believe there is an easier way. Is there a option to not create the dependency? Thanks Tony Schreiner

Migration to centos 7 and program seg faulting

Everything on Centos 7 seems fine - except - my program. I am trying to compile and run on centos 7. Everything compiles/runs on C6, the executable from C6 runs on C7. when I compile and run on C7 - I get a SEG fault. when I debug: gdb program break main run I get a seg fault at or before main What might I be looking for in this case? Bacula + Nagios

Hi list, I'm trying to monitoring bacula (dir, sd and fd) with nagios and plugin check_bacula. check_bacula was installed from repo base, current OS C7.1. When running check_bacula I get error with authentication: "BACULA CRITICAL - Cannot authenticate to Director: 1999 Authorization failed." and from bacula.log: Unable to authenticate console "not real" at client:127.0.0.1:9101. I suppose that It can be a password mismatch but all password/name combination are correct. Anyone has the same problem? Thanks in advance.

managing logins for different classes of servers

Our environment has several "classes" of servers, such as "development", "production", "qa", "utility", etc. Then we have all our users. There's no obvious mapping between users and server class. Some users may have access to only one class, some may span multiple classes, etc. And for maximum complexity, some classes of machines use local (i.e. /etc/passwd, /etc/shadow) authentication, others use Kerberos. With enough users and enough classes, it gets to be more than one can easily manage with a simple spreadsheet or other crude mechanism. Plus the ever-growing risk of giving a user access to a class he shouldn't have. Is there a simple centralized solution that can simplify the management of this? One caveat though is that our "production" class machines should not have any external dependencies. These are business-critical, so we try to minimize any single point of failure (e.g. a central server). Plus the production class machines are distributed in multiple remote locations. Any thoughts?

daemon in /etc/init.d/functions creates no pifile?

Hi, we started using centos7 to run kvm+libvirt. For novnc to virtual machines I like to start websockify as a daemon by libvirt (as a hook) Under Debian I used the line: # start-stop-daemon --start --chuid $RUNUSER --make-pidfile --pidfile $PIDFILE --startas $PROGRAM -- $OPTIONS which creates a nice pidfile. In Centos I figured out, to include /etc/init.d/functions and I tried: # daemon --user $RUNUSER --pidfile=$PIDFILE $PROGRAM $OPTIONS But this seems not to create a pidfile at all. It checks only if a pidile exist already. This is executed at the end # $cgroup $nice runuser -s /bin/bash $user -c "$corelimit >/dev/null 2>&1 ; $*" Am I missed something? Native ZFS on Linux

I have a question that has been puzzling me for some time ... what is the reason RedHat chose to go with btrfs rather than working with the ZFS-on-Linux folks (now OpenZFS)? Is it a licensing issue, political, etc? Although btrfs is making progress, ZFS is far more mature, has a few more stable features (especially Raid-z3) and has worked flawlessly for me on CentOS-6 and Scientific Linux-6. I used ZFS for a couple of large file servers with no problems. The only annoying part was having to manually install the kernel module each time a kernel update was issued. Because FreeBSD has built-in drivers for LSI cards (I use JBOD mode) and strong ZFS support, I've switched to FreeNAS with it's default native ZFS and driver support for LSI. I would have preferred to stick with CentOS, but FreeNAS just made things easier to manage. It also seems about twice as fast as ZFS on Linux (same hardware), but that may simply be a tuning issue. Is there any chance that a native ZFS (rather than btrfs) will ever emerge in RHEL/CentOS? Just curious, because I'd love to return to CentOS/SL next time I build large file servers. As an aside, I have used only WD Black and WD RedPro drives for RAID, and not had any issues. Green drives are scary :-) Chuck

[OT] recover/reset 'owner' password on win7 os

i inherited a toshiba satellite l455d with win7 installed, install cd lost. 'owner' passworded, forgotten by previous owner. 'guest' is does not have a password. i want remove unneeded music software and files and other crud before i defrag the drive so as to have more room to dual boot linux. i would wipe win7, but not an option at this time. i booted laptop, pulled 'ntpassword', copied files to a usb stick, tried to run; X:syslinux.exe -ma X: as 'guest', it failed. how can i make usb stick bootable from linux? any/all suggestion/help is greatly appreciated. thanks in advance. -- peace out. Project Management Software

I have a need to use a project management software package under Centos 6.6 and have started looking at ProjectLibre which is a Java package. Unfortunately it seems to have shortcomings when it comes to following up projects and my current understanding is that it falls short of Microsoft Project 2010, i.e., a previous version. Does anyone have experience with this type of software and what would you recommend? Thank you in advance.

Redistributing CentOS as part of a package

Hi all, I'm developing a program that is not a distro, per-se, but sort of acts like one. Basically, it's a modified CentOS ISO with some extra RPMs added, unneeded RPMs removed and containing a modified boot screen and install selection list. The list says "CentOS", so a user knows the installed appliance will be based on CentOS, but it also has our project's branding along with it (splash screen, our custom installer's images and text, etc). We do not modify /etc/issue, /etc/redhat-release or so one. So I wanted to ask the community if this is OK, as I think I'm sitting in something of a gray area between a straight custom CentOS ISO and a new distro. If this isn't the right place to ask, a pointer to the right place would be much appreciated. I am happy to answer any further questions (here or in private) from the CentOS team if it would help clarify things. nginx conflicting server name ignored warning

Guys, I'm getting a strange warning whenever I do a config test or a restart of nginx 1.0.15 [root@aoadbld00032lb nginx]# nginx -t nginx: [warn] conflicting server name "aoadbld00032lb.company.com" on 0.0.0.0:80, ignored nginx: [warn] conflicting server name "logs.pcf.company.com" on 0.0.0.0:80, ignored nginx: the configuration file /etc/nginx/nginx.conf syntax is ok nginx: configuration file /etc/nginx/nginx.conf test is successful And as far as I can tell I only have one server_name directive in the whole config: [root@aoadbld00032lb nginx]# grep -r server_name * conf.d/kibana.conf: server_name aoadbld00032lb.company.com logs.pcf.company.com; fastcgi_params:fastcgi_param SERVER_NAME $server_name; scgi_params:scgi_param SERVER_NAME $server_name; uwsgi_params:uwsgi_param SERVER_NAME $server_name; It's more of an annoyance than any kind of real problem, as far as I can tell. Because the site I'm trying to put up with it appears to be working. I'm using this host as a logstash server. But does anybody have any ideas as to why this may be happening? Using Mariadb databases from old server

I'm running CentOS-7, but I left some MySQL databases on my old CentOS-6.5 partition which I'd like to retrieve. I assume they are contained in the file /var/lib/mysql/ibdata1 ? Could I just copy this file to /var/lib/mysql in CentOS-7? Redistributing pre-installed CentOS

Hello List, I've got a project that will involve distributing pre-configured CentOS servers to customer sites. No packages have been modified, and it's a pretty straightforward content caching server. The packages are all from CentOS repositories, nginx from EPEL, and Puppet packages from Puppet Labs. The only shell on these boxes is pretty locked down however, and I know some licenses, like Apache for example, require displaying the license. Any tips on the least cumbersome way to avoid violating any of the involved licenses? I remember many years ago, I think Debian had a command to display various licenses in a consolidated way. Is there a similar facility available, or a page we could link to? -Matt

VNC Server Centos 7 specify window manager

I have a simple question, how do I specify a gnome session with VNc Server. I correctly setup up the connections but when I log in all I get is a blue screen with a checkbox in the upper left corner saying "Accept clipboard from viewers". My guess is that I am loading generuc X11 by default. How do I specify in the etc/systemd/system/vncserver@:4.service file that I want it to load gnome? I tried editing my .vnc/xstartup file but that seems to have no effect. my xstartup file #!/bin/sh exec gnome-session & ~

Getting Megaraid Software Manager Installed On CentOS 7

Well I'm pleased that my raid card post brought all the enthusiasts out of the woodwork. So who has installed LSI's MSM software under CentOS 7? I've downloaded the linux-x64 package from: http://www.lsi.com/products/raid-controllers/pages/megaraid-sas-9361-8i.aspx Extracted the files and run "install.csh -a". This installs vivaldiframeworkd under /etc/rc.d/init.d and that runs fine. I can access the host from a Windows install of MSM just fine. What seems to missing is the monitoring software. I think the run-time script is called mr_monitor. It doesn't seem to be installed. Attempts to configure monitor alerts from Windows returns "monitor is unreachable." Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

Booting back into CentOS-6

I'm currently running CentOS-7, but I'd like to re-boot into CentOS-6.5 which I have on another partition. Although this OS is in the grub list when I boot, if I try to run it I get a segfault. I guess this is something to do with the change from grub to grub2?
