Hi list, I've a problem with my system on CentOS 6.5 x86_64 on a workstation. During utilizzation, after several hours after boot (6/7 hours) I get an error: Disabling IRQ #16 and after this seems be that 3d acceleration is unloaded. This is a workstation with a dedicated vga (nvidia gt450) and 3 nics. This problem started when I've plugged the third nic. Without third nic all works very good. from /proc/interrupt: 16: 110 647 64858 0 0 0 0 0 IO-APIC-fasteoi ehci_hcd:usb1, ahci, eth3, nvidia I've tried to boot the system with irqpool without great results. I've tried to change my new third gb nic with a fast ethernet 10/100, thinking it was broken but the problem still persists. I've tried to replace my vga card with another, the problem still persists. I'm posting from my phone so I can't bottom post, but I believe this thread has gone on way to long. Lets drop it and get back to what this mailing list is all about. I would rather read posts about the same technical things over and over again that have been asked hundreds of times. But when questions like that get asked, alot of times people reply by saying "search the archives" or have you searched google yet. Where as the top/bottom posting question I believe should be answered with the search the archives or search google answer. This is just my 2 cents. setting the device queue_depth

Hi, Due to limitations of our Storage we need to set the device queue_depth to 4. I did this with a script that basically does this: echo 4 > /sys/block/sdft/device/queue_depth. But after a few minutes it starts to grow until it reaches 32 again. What could cause that behavior? Furthermore the system doesn' t load my qlogic options. I have set them to: cat /etc/modprobe.d/qlogic.conf alias scsi_hostadapter1 qla2xxx options qla2xxx ql2xmaxqdepth=4 But the max queue depth is cat /sys/module/qla2xxx/parameters/ql2xmaxqdepth 32 Any help would be appreciated. Samba4 questions

I'm a little new to Samba when used as more than just a simple place to mount a single user to a single share, but we're now getting ready to replace our Netware servers with Samba, and I guess that means Active Directory DC. As I read more and more about this beast, I keep finding pages that indicate the samba4 rpms supplied with the Centos/RH distribution are not the full version and that I should get them from either samba.org or certain other sources that provide complete versions. These pages are a little dated, but not that old. Can anyone provide insight into what they've done in this situation and whether the samba rpms are now full versions? Most of what I have found on the web is dated around when samba4 just came out of beta through a little later. There doesn't seem to be much documentation on this subject on the web or through Amazon, so half of my time is spent searching instead of reading. A good source for reading would be appreciated as well. I can find plenty examples, just not definitive manuals. steve campbell

CENTOS and GlusterFS

Hi list, I'm planning to setup a two-node "cluster" with file replication and samba. I've used drbd in the past with success, but now there isn't drbd on the official repo but only from elrepo. I want follow centos Line and than switch to GlusterFS. Said that, I'm new to GlusterFS. I have two hosts with a 2tb disk space for replica. I've ridden that glusterfs is not compatible with smb/cifs/nfs and that for this purpose I must mount locally the volume and share it with samba and the hosts must act as client and server at the same time. It is possibile shares a mounted disk on /data with samba, and apply a replica volume on /data without using glusterfs export? Example: [Host1] [Host2] /data -> smb /data -> smb gluster_replica<---------------->gluster_replica Ip and services will be managed from corosync+pacemaker. There will be problems and complication with this configuration about replication/sync? Thanks in advance. Alessandro.

Re-mount a drive using its label name

Hello everybody, I would like your opinion on the following question, why this happens in centos and how to fix this (or a possible work around). I have a drive with no partitions and formatted with xfs filesystem. I give the drive a custom label "mydrive" and I mount it under /dev/mountpnts/mydrive. Then, I add a corresponding entry to fstab. These, are the steps I followed, mkfs.xfs -L mydrive -f /dev/sdf mkdir /dev/mountpnts/mydrive mount -L mydrive /dev/mountpnts/mydrive/ cat /etc/fstab, LABEL=mydrive /dev/mountpnts/mydrive xfs noatime,nodiratime,nobarrier,logbufs=8 0 0 These steps mount the drive under the mount point specified. If I remove the drive and insert it back in after a while, the drive doesn't mount, even though I have the required entry in fstab. `mount -a` doesn't seem to work and provides me the following output, mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdj, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so If I restart my server, the drive gets mounted in the correct mount point and works fine. Can someone please shed some light on why a restart is required to re-mount a drive and if there is way to mount the drive without a restart. Thanks, Raghuv Adhepalli.

Centos 6.5 problems with UEFI PXE and GRUB

Greetings, Im having issues booting UEFI PXE Centos 6.5 using Grub. Ive followed the configuration specifications in the documentation and yet my install always seems to hang past the grub menu at [Linux, EFI ...] Ive added ksdevice=bootif and APPENDIP 2 to ensure the proper nic is selected however this does not prevent the hang. Set static IP

Hello, I want my CentOS 6.5 computer to have a static IP. Currently I get the IP I want because I have my router assign it on the basis of mac address. I placed the following file as: /etc/sysconfig/networking-scripts/eth0 DEVICE="eth0" BOOTPROTO=static HWADDR=00:1F:D0:9E:AE:67 ONBOOT=yes TYPE=Ethernet USERCTL=no IPV6INIT=no PEERDNS=yes NETMASK=255.255.255.0 IPADDR=192.168.0.99 GATEWAY=192.168.0.1 NM_CONTROLLED=no I also disabled Network Manager with chkconfig. It didn't work. When I rebooted I had no IP address for eth0. Should I leave all the other scripts in /etc/sysconfig/networking-scripts unchanged? Suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you, Joe

Virtualising legacy CentOS 4.x servers

Dear all, I look after a number of CentOS 4.x servers running legacy applications that depend on ancient versions of various things (such as MySQL 3.x) and which can't be upgraded without non-trivial development effort. I've been considering virtualising them and as a test have been trialling with a company that uses Parallels Cloud Server 6. However, I've run into a roadblock in that the Parallels Tools installer in PCS6 require a version of glibc higher than that which is available in CentOS 4.x (v2.5 required versus v2.3.4 installed). Without the guest OS tools installed it's impossible to migrate a VM from node to node or back it up without shutting the VM down first, which is less than useful. So I have two questions: 1) Does anyone know if there is a version of the PCS6 Tools built against glibc 2.3.4 available anywhere? 2) Is there an alternative virtualisation environment I should be looking at which fully supports CentOS 4.x as a guest OS? And if so, does anyone have recommendations for a hosting supplier that offers that environment (ideally UK based). Many thanks Simon

Any ideas? mark PS And if the CentOS *MUST* use nixspam, which I am *very* strongly of the opinion that we can find something better, is there no way to whitelist regular posters? Certainly, when we created a Big Eight newsgroup, back in '93? '94? we allowed for that....

vi : unable to copy text to other file

Hello All, I'm trying to use vi commands instead of using the mouse. I open Gnome-Terminal I open a file : vi /home/jvermeulen/.ssh/id_dsa.pub I select the key with " V " ( visual line ) I type " y " to yank the selected line. I can now use :e otherfile.txt and paste the text in otherfile.txt This is the only way I succeed in copying text to another file in Gnome-Terminal of xterm. I just updated and rebooted a VM host server which runs CentOS 6.5/x86_64. After rebooting, I can't start the virtual-manager due to the error: Error starting Virtual Machine Manager: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. You could run under KVM/Virtualbox/Vmware, etc. on your own hardware. Virtualization of a production environment

I need to virtualize a server, but this needs to be stable enough for production. What are the advantages/disadvantages of the different hypervisers with CENTOS ESXi (vmware) XEN KVM Primarily I will be running Centos6.4 there may or may not be a windows server. I need stability as this will be production. I will not need the equivalent of V Motion, but would like to be able to do a physical to virtual would like the capability of snapshots and to be able to backup as files on storage (I cannot do boot from SAN, but this will be SAN attached). -- Thanks, Dan

I do know that if you use Google maps from a registered IPhone then these activities are logged as well. semi-OT: anyone into setup.py?

I'm trying to patch this package that I'm rpmbuilding, and its setup.py does not link a library for one extension that it dies if it doesn't have. Note that ldd is fooled, because there's a declaration, so it says everything is fine... but without a definition, it dies, and that's in the other library.... Feel free to contact me offlist. mark

Hey all, I'm trying to do a find of all files with the phrase 'varnish' in the name, but want to exclude a user home directory called /usr/local/digitalplatform. Change server name in postfix configuration

Hi, A consultant, long gone, set up postfix, dovecot, amavisd and squirrelmail for my wife. It works fine but my wife wants to change the server name from old.com to new.com so the name is more appropriate for her business. My approach would be to use sed to change all occurences of old.com to new.com. Specifically, I used grep to identify the following files where I should make the changes. /etc/postfix/main.cf /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf /etc/squirrelmail/config.php /etc/amavisd.conf /etc/sysconfig/network (change host name) In addition, there would be an MX record for mail.new.com pointing to the IP of the server. My question is, will this work or will I corrupt my email server? If I mess it up I can always restore it to the original. Thank you, Joe

Samba problem

Hello, My only hard drive failed on a private server so I had to replace it and reinstall Centos 6.5 and Samba. My smb.conf file is OK according to "testparm". I configured smb and nmb, with chkconfig, to start when the system boots. After the system boots if I do "service nmb status" I get the response "nmbd dead but pid file exists". I can delete the pid file manually and start nmb with "service nmb start". The problem is that when the system shuts down and restarts I still find that "nmbd dead but pid file exists". Any suggestions on how to fix the problem would be much appreciated. Thank you, Joe

SSSD Passwd change problem

Hi, I have sssd set up and it mostly works how I would expect, but the ldap_chpass_uri does not seem to work correctly with the passwd command. I have two configs, one working and one not: Working: ldap_uri = ldap://ldap.example.com ldap_chpass_uri = ldap://ldap.example.com Non Working: ldap_uri = ldap://ldap3.example.com,ldap://ldap2.example.com,ldap:// ldap.example.com ldap_chpass_uri = ldap://ldap.example.com ldap.example.com is the master ldap server, and the other two are read-only consumers. I have the clients set up with sssd to use their local ldap replication, except for changing their password. With the non working config the only thing I have changed is the ldap_uri. The behavior seems like it is not using the ldap_chpass_uri directive. I can post more of the config files if needed. When I use the passwd command to update a password, the first config snippet works as expected, whereas the second does not. Any ideas? Thanks, Eric Falbe

Xnest and gnome

I still don't like gnome.... Got a user who wants the "whole gnome experience" (i.e., he can't deal w/ the command line), so I'm testing this: I'm running 6.5, KDE. On the server, I've installed both Xnest, "Gnome Desktop Environment", and "X Window System". Xnest works fine, I can start xclock, or an xterm, but if I try DISPLAY=:1, I see the taskbar and top bar start to appear on the Xnest window, and then it crashes. Most recently, I've been using Xnest -query hostname :1 to start.... I *suspect* it has something to do with .Xauthority or something in my home directory, NFS mounted, of course, on both my workstation and the server, but.... Any clues or suggestions? The messages when it crashes start with: Error: (9) Connection ":1.246" is not allowed to own the service "org.freedesktop.NetworkManagerUserSettings" due to security policies in the configuration file Xlib: extension "RANDR" missing on display ":1". OpenDKIM and SELinux

Following the most recent kernel updates I restarted our outgoing SMTP MTA which was recently reconfigured to DKIM sign messages using OpenDKIM. This morning I discovered that Postfix had stopped on that server. Whether it is related to the Postfix issue or not is yet to be determined but, in the process of getting things restarted I ran across this error with Open DKIM: # service opendkim restart Stopping OpenDKIM Milter: [FAILED] Starting OpenDKIM Milter: opendkim: /etc/opendkim.conf: refile:/etc/opendkim/TrustedHosts: dkimf_db_open(): Permission denied [FAILED] I check the permissions and ownership on the file and everything seems normal. EFI and RAID questions

Hi All; I have a new server we're setting up that supports EFI or Legacy in the bios I am a solid database guy but my SA skills are limited to what I need to get by 1) I used EFI because I wanted to create a raid 10 array with 6 4TB drives and apparently I cannot setup gpt partitions via parted in legacy mode (at least that's what I've read - is this true?) 2) I installed the OS on 2 500GB drives, I used to do all my installs with software RAID (mirrored) without LVM as follows: - create 2 raid partitions (one on each drive) for swap, /boot and / - create a raid1 device for each set of partitions above The installer would not let me proceed without a /boot/efi partition I tried to create a raid partition on each drive for this and create a /boot/efi raid disk but when I doit this way in the installer I no longer see the "EFI SYSTEM Partition" as an option for the filesystem type so this did not work either. I ended up doing hardware raid for the OS drives and software raid for the 6 4TB data drives. It works but I prefer to do software raid for everything so we ca have standard methods of monitoring for bad drives. Is there a way to setup software raid with EFI? Do I need to add a /boot/efi partition only to one of the 2 OS drives? If so how do I recover if we loose the drive with the /boot/efi partition? Is it required to use LVM to do this? CentOS 6.5 fresh install, public ssh keys cannot authenticate

Dear List, I cannot get public ssh keys to work in a fresh install of centos6.5 This might be a centos bug. I've googled for a solution. Mostly I found threads suggesting I debug sshd or run ssh -v for clues. Also I've seen threads suggesting I look at file and directory permissions. I dont think I should need to debug sshd after a fresh install. Also I think a fresh install should correctly set file and directory permissions. I think ssh should just simply work or I should see some simple documentation to make it work. Steps to reproduce this bug: Get the latest copy of virtualbox software. Get a centos6.5 dvd. Press the new button in virtualbox In the settings of the new install ask virtual box to setup a bridged adapter. Walk through the virtualbox wizard UI. When it asks for distribution point it at centos6.5 iso When the iso boots inside of virtualbox, choose to install desktop which is the first choice of choices. Eventually it will ask for a username, give the name of 'dan' and password paloalto9. When presented a login screen, login as dan. Start a terminal. try ssh: ssh dan@localhost That should prompt you for password and log you in. Also it should create ~dan/.ssh/ cd ~dan/.ssh/ do this: ssh-keygen That should create 2 files: ~dan/.ssh/id_rsa ~dan/.ssh/id_rsa.pub do this: cat ~dan/.ssh/id_rsa.pub > ~dan/.ssh/authorized_keys try: ssh dan@localhost It should log me in. Instead it prompts for password. I've walked through this type of scenario many times over the past few years and it has always worked. Currently it works well on ubuntu 12.04. I think something in centos6 might be broken? Perhaps there is a documented step somewhere which has been added to fresh centos installs which I missed? Dan

Kickstarts failing 30% of time on Dell 620 blades

I have a large set of Dell 620 blades fully populated with memory and duel socket CPUs, Centos6.4 image. I have a kickstart that I am using to pxe boot 36 blades. I have two internal drives which are raid1 (two disks formed into one, no redundancy), not san attached In the first set, 9 successfully completed. 7 more built correctly after trying another pxe boot. 2 just wont pxeboot In the second set I had 11 fail and 5 succeed and the two I tried again failed. When they fail, they go to GRUB. I try booting from disk from the drac and still get grub It looks like the complete centos kickstart occurs as it goes through the whole install before rebooting and failing. Any idea why this would happen with identical hardware, identical kickstart/image, inside the same blade chassis. Processes launched from rc*.d and ulimit -n

I'm running fedora directory server on some boxes in a multi-master arrangement. The problem is that when dirsrv is lauched from init (on boot) the maximum number of allowed file descriptors (ulimit -n) is only 4096. That means that the slapd process can only accept ~4k connections, and it needs to accept ~10k or so. The value for nofile for all users in /etc/security/limits.conf (and limits.d/*) is 65536, and as soon as I restart the process (service dirsrv restart) it comes up with ulimit -n being 64K, the way it's supposed to. Why isn't it doing this at boot? Hi all! Using C6 on an Asus M5A99X EVO R2.0 motherboard with AMD six core FX6300. That board uses Realtek ALC892 audio chipset. For the first time since I got that motherboard I tried plugging in headphones to the front panel speaker output. I was somewhat displeased to note that the speakers don't mute when that happens. I recall seeing info on that in Fedora, but not Centos, and haven't so far scared up how to troubleshoot it. I can MANUALLY change the setting in sound preferences, which offers only two choices: "Analog Output" and "Analog Headphones". Suggestions will be welcomed! I am working with HIP for Linux: http://infrahip.hiit.fi/ We are looking to some major server support on currently Centos 6 cloud images. Problem is for other distros, hipl has moved on to libnetfilter_queue which is not supported in Centos 6. See: http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=6698 How can we get this as part of the standard install and maintained libs? thank you.

License question: centos-indexhtml

Hi, and sorry to bug you all for something so simple: The project in which I am working would like to use CentOS, but it has very strict requirements regarding licensing. The item that I have had trouble with is centos-indexhtml-6-1.el6.centos.src.rpm. Within it, the License is only identified as 'distributable', which is not precise enough. Is there any way of contacting the author of said package, or does anyone have any clues as to what does distributable mean exactly? (preferably with references somewhere in the CentOS distribution) -Joe

su command

I am running pulseaudio on centOS 6.5 audio works fine as the user. running the command aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav works fine. when I login as root and run the command su user -c "aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav" it does not work. I thought su actually runs as that user... is there some "magic" to su I don't know about? How might I get that to work ? Thanks, jerry

Where would be an appropriate place to get help with the quirks of RHEL7 beta, particularly GUI usability issues? Gnome3 won't work under x2go, so I'm trying to use KDE but can't believe that anyone actually uses borderless windows where you can't tell where you are clicking near the edges, grey-background terminals or the default font set. Try using "su -" to get a login shell. For example: # su - user -c pwd /home/user # su user -c pwd /root You are trying to run pulseaudio in root's environment with the user's permissions. Format big drives (4TB) in the installer?

Hi all; I cross posted this to the fedora list since we use Fedora as a test bed from time to time, however given this is a production server we'll likely be running CentOS. we've just ordered a new server (http://www.spectrumservers.com/ssproducts/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=26&idpr…) Originally I tried to simply upgrade an older server with more drive space, I installed six (6) 4TB drives and did a new CentOS 6.5 install but the OS would not allow me to configure more than 2TB per drive. Subsequent research leads me to conclude that if the bios supports UEFI and the installer boots as such then the installer should see 4TB drives without any issues. I'm also assuming that any server I order today (i.e. a more modern server) should ship with UEFI support in the bios. Are my conclusions above per UEFI correct? Thanks in advance
