Dear Friends, I have postfix mail server When I try to install amavisd-new, clamAV, SpamAssassin follow this link "http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Amavisd". need help with 6.3 install, kernel panic when os boots up

Hi, I am new to the community and look for some help for installing CentOS on my Dell poweredge t420 server. I am installing the CentOS on dual boot; already have the windows server 2008 installed via UEFI. I installed the CentOS 6.3 via UEFI DVD boot too, and because my server have the hardware RAID, so instead of the LVM, I use standard partition for all my partitions. The installation completed successfully and I let the installer write the boot info into the EFI boot partition. Reboot the machine after installation complete, but got kernel panic issue when loading the OS. I saw some message like this: Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! Pid: 1, comm: init Not tainted blablba version BTW, don't want to make thing complicated, but curious if the partition might be a issue here(whether type, or the order of the partition) The weird thing is before I installed the centOS using standard partition, I by chance, chose "use free space" for create the partition to install the OS once, and the system automatically help me create the LVM and OS was working fine. After that I format the harddisk and want to install it again using standard partition, and it failed. Thanks for any help. I could provide more debug info, just let me know how. Lewis

directory /dev/disk/by-label

I am trying to create a CF card that boots 686 CentOS 6.3 On boot I get a message about /dev/disk/by-label/\x2f where \x2f is "/" cannot be found. Adding rdshell to the boot line and booting up sure enough the /dev/disk directory does not exist. What "creates" that early on in the boot process? My CF card was changed from UUID to LABEL. So I edited grub.conf and make root=LABEL=/ like the OLD 5.X days. Clearly I have missed something else when swithing back to a LABEL method. I want to use LABEL because I want to duplicate cards. flash plugin

How do I get a flash plugin to work with firefox? I thought that I installed it correctly, but I have yet to see any flash videos through firefox. I keep being told that I need an additional plugin. When I folow directions, I'm told I already have it? At least once, I was told I needed to upgrade. I'm running the following hardware: MSI 890FXA-GD70 motherboard With a AMI v1.7 BIOS AMD Phenom II X6 (1055T) 8 GB RAM (2 x 4 GB DIMM) nVidia Geforce 7300 (G72) video Card ViewSonic VA2431wvm monitor Plus The OS is: CentOS release 6.3 (Final) 2.6.32-279.5.2.el6.centos.plus.x86_64 Actually, on this machine I'm getting the following error during bootup: [drm:drm_edid_block_valid} *ERROR* EDID checksum is invalid, remainder is (222; 122; 251; but mostly 128) From time to time the video locks up and sometimes goes black. But the keyboard and mouse usage can be seen via lights blinking whei I enter something on the keyboard. And I can see what I entered when the display returns. I know the monitor, keyboard, and mouse are not the problem because I have 3 machines on a KVM using the same monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Could this be my video card going bad? I read another posting where it was suggested to add 'Option "IgnoreEDID" "1"' into the xorg.conf, but this machine doesn't have a xorg.conf file. Any information will be helpful. Gene

I am new to CentOS and have installed the dgap rpm for the mentioned 16 port board. I turned on in Services dgap. However, when I reboot the system the ttys disappear. Could it be that the udev rpm is not installed? When I run the mpi install and load program, everything works. But a reboot deletes it all! Help!

I get these ACPI errors constantly every 5min or so in /var/log/messages and dmesg : kernel: ACPI Error: SMBus or IPMI write requires Buffer of length 42, found length 20 (20090903/exfield-286) kernel: ACPI Error (psparse-0537): Method parse/execution failed [\_SB_.PMI0._PMM] (Node ffff88061056cb00), AE_AML_BUFFER_LIMIT kernel: ACPI Exception: AE_AML_BUFFER_LIMIT, Evaluating _PMM (20090903/power_meter-341) It's brand new HP DL380 G7 server with CentOS 6.2 with all updates. Basic KVM networking question

A CentOS 6.3 box ("host") runs several KVM virtual machines, each of which has two interfaces attached to the two bridges br1 and br2 (and each thus has two IP's; one on 192.168.0.0/22 and one on 192.168.4.0/22); net.ipv4.ip_forward on the host is 1. Simplified diagram: host +---------------+ | | net1 = 192.168.0.0/22 | | net2 = 192.168.4.0/22 -----------------------+ br1 br2 +--------------------------------- | | | | | | | | Client A +---------------+ Client B (hosts KVM1, KVM2, etc) Each client uses the bridge's IP address on the same side as default gateway. Client A can successfully ping or ssh (for example) to a KVM machine by IP address by using the KVM machine's net1 IP address. Client B can likewise communicate using the KVM machine's net2 IP address. However, neither client can communicate by using the address on the opposing segment (eg, Client A using KVM1_net2_IP); I can see from tcpdump that the packets are received by the virtual machine but no reply is ever made. Partition large disk

Hi, I have a 24TB RAID6 disk with a GPT partition table on it. I need to partition it into 2 partitions one of 16TB and 1 of 8TB to put ext4 filesystems on both. But I really need to do this remotely. ( if I can get to the site I could use gparted ) Now fdisk doesn't understand GPT partition tables and pat

CentOS 6.3. *Just* updated, including most current selinux-policy and selinux-policy-targeted. I'm getting tons of these, as in it's just spitting them out when I tail -f /var/log/messages: Sep 13 15:20:51 <server> setroubleshoot: SELinux is preventing /bin/ps from search access on the directory @2. django not picking up template change on CentOS

Don't know if anyone here can help me or not, but here's my problem: I have a django app. I develop on a Mac, but it's deployed on CentOS. I've been doing it like this for a long time with no issues. Today I changed a template on my Mac, and the change was picked up, no problem. I checked my change into git, went to a CentOS box, pulled the change down, but django is not picking it up. I've tried everything I can think of - bounced the server, restarted the browser, cleared the cache and cookies, tried 3 different browsers, deleted it, re-pulled from git, but when I look at the code in the debugger, it's clearly using the old template. There are no errors in the apache log, and permissions are fine. One thing I see is that is different is that the dir that has the new template, has no SELinux security context set, whereas all the other dirs do. But SELinux is disabled on this box, so that's probably not it. I've been trying to set the SELinux security context on that dir, just so it's like the others, but I haven't been able to figure out how to do that - I don't know what to pass to chcon. I'm tearing my hair out here. Anyone have any ideas as to what's preventing it from picking up the new template, or what I can check to figure out what's going on? Thanks! -larry

I am using CentOS 5, and kvm virtualization. My VM stack (about 10 v-machines) now often gets painfully slow, probably because of IO limitations. How could I find out where the load comes from? virt-top on the host only shows the processor load. For this situation, it is not very useful. It would be more useful to see on the host a list of VM "load averages", because load average at least contains IO, in addition to CPU load. Is this possible? - Jussi

cannot write to CIFS shares on a Windows box from Centos 6

Another issue that I found was that I cannot write to CIFS shares on a Windows server with Centos 6. I can write to them from Centos 5 and older Fedora versions, but not from Centos 6. Any ideas on what needs to be changed or where I can start looking for some indication of what is wrong? NFS mounts group name shows as nobody

I am trying to find out why my group names are showing as nobody. I have a CentOS 6 system that is acting as a NFS server. I have some older fedora clients where the group name shows up fine, but newer CentOS 6 clients have the group name for NFS mounts show up as "nobody". The username shows up fine but the group name shows up as "nobody". I have tried changing some setting in the idmapd.conf file, but nothing worked (domain, ldap_base) so it is back to default. Hey, since RH took control of glusterfs, I've been looking to convert our old independent RAID storage servers to several non RAID glustered ones. The thing is that I, here and there, heard a few frightening stories from some users (even with latest release). Any one has experienced with it long enough to think one can blindly trust it or if it is almost there but not yet ready? Thx, JD

Problems with logwatch under CentOS 6.3

Hi all, Last week I have migrated 5 CentoS 6.2 servers to CentOS 6.3. In all of them, I receive every day problems with logwatch: /etc/cron.daily/0logwatch: Can't exec "sendmail": No such file or directory at /usr/sbin/logwatch line 1040, <TESTFILE> line 1. Can't execute sendmail -t: No such file or directory It is really strange, because I am using default config ... On the other side, I have three CentOS 6.2 servers and these problems doesn't appears ... How can I debug this?? Thanks.

I have been given a replacement monitor for my CentOS-6.3 KVM test platform. It is an LG E2251 22in letterbox format screen whereas the unit it replaces was a 17" standard format display. The console messages now look as through they were output on Silly Putty. The display itself displays a message to set the resolution to 1920 x 1080. I have found references to using the vga option in the grub.conf file. However, I can find no comprehensive list of what value to use. The references I have found actually say "see the source code in the Linux kernel tree", which does not strike me as particularly "user friendly" shall we say. Need versions of automake and autoconf not in repository

I have the latest updates to CentOS 5.6. However, I need different versions of autoconf and automake. How can this be handled? What will happen on later updates? Currently I have autoconf (GNU Autoconf) 2.59 automake (GNU automake) 1.9.6 I need autoconf 2.69-1 and automake 1.11.6. Thanks, John -- John J. Can,t get pam_mkhomedir to work...

On a ldap enabled CentOS 6.3 x64 system, I try to make it so home directories are auto-created. I added this : session required pam_mkhomedir.so skel=/etc/skel/ umask=0077 to my /etc/pam.d/system-auth And it does nothing. I restarted messagebus (I've seen references to that) and sshd, and logs don't mention anything in regards to pam_mkhomedir... Any hints ?

centos email server suddenly much slower. What to do?

Greetings, I run my own email server for some domains I administer, on a centos vps server with a very small number of users. The only services are smtp, imap/pop, webmail Everything was running without problems until this morning. I left home for 1/2 hours, and when I came back everything had become about 100x slower (seriously!). The services were/are still all up and running, but practically unusable (even running mutt in my ssh session is almost frozen). I have not changed/updated anything in the last 1/2 weeks. I have already done a few checks with the VPS provider, and it looks like: network & hardware are OK there seem to be no strange processes running. I didn't manage to save the output of "top", but it didn't show anything that (AFAICT, of course) should not be there on an email server however, there is something that is using "much more memory than normal" (see the comment below from the hosting sysadmin after he checked user_beancounters). Initially we thought it was apache, but even switching it off didn't change anything. What now? Any help to understand what the heck happened, and find out what exactly _started_ to cause this problem is very welcome! This means your VPS tried to use more RAM than what is available (e.g. more than 1GB RAM). If you are only running some basic mail services on your VPS, that's definitely not normal and you should investigate that accordingly. We have fully checked everything for hardware and network problems and everything is working flawlessly. In combination with the RAM shortage errors, it is safe to conclude that there's something within your VPS itself that's malfunctioning.

Unable to remove an lvm on CentOS-6

I mistyped the storage allocation for an additional virtio drive for one of our vm guests and now I cannot get rid of the thing. I have discovered that this is probably, indeed almost certainly, related to udev but the few work arounds I have found all seem to fail for me. Does anyone here know how to remove these things? When I try this: # for i in {1..200}; do udevadm control --stop-exec-queue ; lvremove -f /dev/vg_vhost01/lv_vm_inet05.harte-lyne.ca_01; udevadm control --start-exec-queue; done I get hundreds of these: Logical volume vg_vhost01/lv_vm_inet05.harte-lyne.ca_01 is used by another device. # lsof /dev/vg_vhost01/lv_vm_inet05.harte-lyne.ca_01 # I recall that I ran into this before and I have a sinking feeling that the 'fix' was to reinstall the then new virtual host OS. odd dependency

I'm putting the finishing touches on a new server, which will be replacing an old one. It's got a non-rpm ruby package (I hear lots of not-nice things about the RH package). The new server had ruby installed, so I went to yum remove it. And it removed ibutils as a dependency of ruby or ruby-libs. rpm -qi of ibutils tells me Summary : OpenIB Mellanox InfiniBand Diagnostic Tools Description : ibutils provides IB network and path diagnostics. On 5.8, it's installed, and ruby isn't. Anyone have any idea why Infiniband utils should be required for ruby? mark

Simple routing question

We use a dual homed CentOS-6.3 host for our Internet gateway router. Its internal nic (eth1) is configured such that the address 192.168.0.1 is one of its aliases. # cat /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1:192BOOTPROTO=none BROADCAST=192.168.255.255 DEVICE=eth1:192 IPADDR=192.168.0.1 IPV6INIT=no MTU="" NAME="LAN - Non-routable" NETMASK=255.255.0.0 NETWORK=192.168.0.0 ONBOOT=yes ONPARENT=yes Internal packets routed to 192.168.209.41 are passing through this router out onto the network. I am afraid that the reason is not evident to me and I have been unable to locate an answer.
