Hello, has anybody solved the problem of installing GDChart on CentOS 5.5 (I've tried both 32 and 64 bit versions)? I have: # rpm -qa | grep -i php php-pear-1.4.9-6.el5 php-gd-5.1.6-27.el5 php-ldap-5.1.6-27.el5 php-pgsql-5.1.6-27.el5 php-5.1.6-27.el5 php-pdo-5.1.6-27.el5 php-common-5.1.6-27.el5 php-cli-5.1.6-27.el5 php-devel-5.1.6-27.el5 And the "pecl" seems to find GDChart in its repository: # sudo pecl search GDChart Retrieving data...0%....50%....Matched packages, channel pecl.php.net: ======================================= Package Stable/(Latest) Local GDChart -n/a-/(0.2.0 beta) GDChart Based Graphing Interface But installing it fails: # sudo pecl install GDChart Failed to download pecl/GDChart within preferred state "stable", latest release is version 0.2.0, stability "beta", use "channel://pecl.php.net/GDChart-0.2.0" to install Cannot initialize 'GDChart', invalid or missing package file Package "GDChart" is not valid install failed Ok, then I try the suggested "URL": # sudo pecl install "channel://pecl.php.net/GDChart-0.2.0" pecl/gdchart requires PHP extension "gd" No valid packages found install failed But I do have both "gd" and "php-gd" rpms installed and enabled: # cat /etc/php.d/gd.ini ; Enable gd extension module extension=gd.so Any suggestions please? "ultimate" backup choice

i have: "SERVER A" "SERVER B" with "full root permisson" [ssh, etc] each server has a folder. i want to backup a folder in "SERVER A". are there any backup methods, that meets these two requirements? : 1) running from e.g.: a cronjob 2) when running, it just checks the folder in "SERVER A" and "SERVER B". if a file/folder has been added/removed/modified in the "SERVER A"'s folder, then it copies/removes it/them to "SERVER B"'s folder. please help! Howto batch sign RPM packages?

Hi, I need to sign a bunch of RPM packages that have interdepencies: build #1, sign #1, install #1, build #2, sign #2, install #2 etc. Based on the info in bz436812 [1] I have created the key (RSA sign only, 4096bit, no sub keys) and put this in .rpmmacros: %_signature gpg %_gpg_path ~/.gnupg %_gpg_name <KEY_ID> %__gpg_sign_cmd %{__gpg} gpg --force-v3-sigs \ --digest-algo=sha1 --batch --no-verbose --no-armor \ --passphrase-fd 3 --no-secmem-warning -u "%{_gpg_name}" \ -sbo %{__signature_filename} %{__plaintext_filename} Now I don't want to type in a rather long and difficult passphrase every time one of dozens of packages need to be signed and I also don't want to temporarily remove the passphrase so am looking for a better solution that works unattended after giving the passphrase once. I looked at gpgwrap (part of pgp-tools in Fedora) but from the docs I could not figure out how to make that work. Anyone know howto set this up? Thanks! i can use "natively" openssl for anonymous chat: # Chat: # server side: openssl req -x509 -nodes -days 365 -newkey rsa:8192 -keyout mycert.pem -out mycert.pem # server side - generate a self-signed cert. openssl s_server -accept 52310 -cert mycert.pem # client side - "127.0.0.1" is the IP of the server openssl s_client -connect 127.0.0.1:52310 1) but how can i set it to require username/password? it would be a great chat tool 2) how can i transfer files with openssl? [again: with username/password?] thank you for any ideas :\ p.s.: or it will be a firewall rule, to restrict to ip addresses in a list? those, who are only allowed to connect..

fuse-ntfs-3g

After installing kmod-fuse rpm, I had given "/dev/sda3 /mnt/win ntfs rw,umask=0000,defaults" in the file /etc/fstab. Then I gave mount /mnt/win. But I couldn't copy files from system to the hard disk so I removed kmod-fuse by rpm -e command. I installed fuse-ntfs-3g rpm. Now what are the changes that have to be made on the file /etc/fstab?

Please forgive my ignorance but I need a explanation of how to accomplish the following since I cannot figure it out from the documents. I have a Ruby script with a shebang line that looks like this: #!/usr/bin/env ruby On one particular host I have two Ruby interpreters installed; one the CentOS base version 1.8.6 in /usr/bin/ruby the other version 1.8.7 in /usr/local/bin/ruby. In my shell the which command finds /usr/local/bin/ruby. In a cron job the /usr/bin/ruby is used by the /bin/env invocation. My question is: How does one configure /bin/env to return the /usr/local/bin/ruby version? or does that question even make sense? I have looked at the alternatives command but that seems just a tad involved. And since this is a production server I am not quite ready to trust to RVM either. In the short term I have simply removed the CentOS version which has resolved the immediate issue. sudo doing DNS lookup

Hi, I have a confusing problem. I have two centos 5,5 boxes. Both have sudo.i386 1.7.2p1-9.el5_5 installed I am using the same sudoers file, but the one on box A keeps trying to do DNS lookups while the one on box B does not. How do I disable this DNS lookup? The system is DELL laptop. So i am not sure if the cable of the internal PC speaker can be pulled. In preferences->sound->system beep, i unchecked the option "enable system beep". This solves the problem, but is there any way to change the system beep?

I do note though that OPENVPN runs easily in a chroot environment, just by enabling options in the config file. I'm not sure if openswan or strongswan can do this. Folks I have been following the IPV6 comments. What concerns me with the loss of NAT are the following issues: 1) My friend from half-way around the world comes to visit. He turns on his IPV6 enabled device (think Ipad), and wants to use my ISP's connection. What IP address does he get? If it's his home address, that makes routing difficult. If he dynamically gets one of "my" addresses a) Did my ISP give me enough? b) Do I get charged by my ISP on a per-device basis? 2) Today, my ISP doesn't know (or doesn't care) how many devices I have in my home -- my Linux gateay with DHCP and NAT hides all of that. With IPV6, what is to prevent my ISP from charging me a per-device fee? 3) When I connect my IPV6 refrigerator with its automatic inventory system tracking every RFID-enabled carrot I use, won't I be making my shopping habits visible to all those annoying advertisers? Or, in other words, am I compromising my privacy? Actually, although such dissemination of information can be blocked by a correctly designed firewall, I suspect the "Free IPv6 DSL Modem and Router, Sponsored by <your-favorite-commercial-site>" that comes with your ISP contract, would err on the side of promiscuity. Has anyone noticed over the years, that every time a major new CentOS release is just about to happen, suddenly there starts to be a few very long and drawn out threads? Has anyone ever considered that the core team is in fact monitoring this thread while trying to devote as much time as possible to actually getting the next release out the door? Could it possibly take longer for the next release to be launched due to the increase in volume on this list? Optimal VPN

I am looking for the optimal VPN. Well it doens't have to be that elaborate. Just the best VPN. We currently have some customers using PPTP, some using openvpn, some using Cisco Any Connect and there are a few others. So my question is, if you have control of both ends (client and server) what is the best VPN to use? There are not too many requirements, but a big one is The VPN must return the same IP address to the same user each time That is there must be a specific IP address assigned to a user/password combination. pptp does not really do this but I wrote sort of a backend (or maybe frontend? ;-) ) to change the IP address assigned based on a login and password. It is extra stuff I would prefer not to do though.

how to run a command on a specific vnc display

dhcp + static dns

Hi all, Not having issues setting this in Ubuntu or Windows but I cannot seem to add a static DNS or search path without it getting over written when networks restarts. The file dhclient.conf seems ignored. I would like to simply have a fixed DNS and search path added to what ever was found by the dhcp client. So I don't think peersdns=no is an option. Any advice is greatly appreciated. - aurf

I hadn't noticed until just now that the default apache config file doesn't show a virtual host for https anymore. Does that have any significance, and do the same old config parameters apply to the new httpd when I want to set up a secure web site? Steve Campbell

copy old CF image to new CF device

I am using an 8G CF card. (I was using dd to duplicate the card with different size cards I was advised not to). So I wrote the script below which basically: 1) runs fdisk to setup the device 2) makes the ext3 file system and the swap 3) mounts my old image "/" filesystem and the new partition 4) tar and untar the directories 5) run grub on it 6) set label for "/" After I run all the above I get: EXT3-fs error ext3_find_entry reading directory #129586 offset 0 then a couple lines later it remounts the root file system read only. What have I missed in successfully make the CF card based on the old image? display issue after installing centos 5.5 on hp probook 4420s

HI I was just assigned a laptop with a pre install windows 7 in it. I decide to dual boot this server with cent os 5.5 , i did a "linux text " at the boot prompt as anaconda was not able to display the graphis screen ( it was barely viable ) . The installation happened perfect , but when i start x windows " startx" or init3 , i can barely see the display. I dont know where the issue lies , what module do i need to load .The display is barely visible . Thanks for all the help !! -- Regards Agnello D'souza

Problem with centos nfsroot

I made a diskless node centos. the pxelinux.cfg/default file : default centos label centos kernel vmlinuz-2.6.18-194.el5 append initrd=initrd-2.6.18-194.el5.nfs.img nfsroot=10.10.10.1:/srv/centos ip=dhcp rw I can successfull*y boot-strap the system with no error.* *But when i shutdown or reboot it . It will show in the screen :* *Unmounting NFS filesystems* *INIT:no more process left in this rulevel* * * * * *and then ,it just hang.* * * *i think it is because it umounted the nfsroot filesystem and can't do the things behind. but I really have no idea about how to resolve that.* *Any help is granted. thanks.*

LVM change disk

Dear all, I have a 4,1TB Logical volume consist of four disks with size of 2TB, 1TB, 1TB, and 500GB. The LV currently full. I plan to change the 1Tb disks and 500Gb disks. I plan to remove one 1TB disk or the 500GB so that I can replace it with 2TB disk. most LVM tutorial ask to use pvmove to move phisical extent to the new disk. The problem is that I have no SATA port left so that I can't move PE to the new disk. How to migrate the data safely so that I can replace the disk? CentOS 5.5 is installed in the system. I installed the package kmod-ntfs-2.1.27-3.el5.elrepo.x86_64.rpm I mounted Seagate external hard disk. I am able to copy contents from the hard disk to the system but not from the system to the hard disk.

Hi All, I am attempting to install CentOS 5.5 64 bit on my new Mac Mini. I boot to the CD and when I get to selecting where I am installing from (local cd, hard disk, ftp, etc) I select Local CD and it cannot find a driver and wants me to manually specify or use a driver disk. I ave no idea what drive is in this system. Can anyone point me in the right direction? -Jason

Question. In a chained cron job like this: sshfs . . . && /usr/bin/rsync . . . | /bin/mail -s . . . && . . . Is there anyway to get a failure message from the first part to be emailed or logged? Given the resolution of this problem I gather that sshfs must not have been found and therefore I would expect an error to be reported somewhere. The chained commands evidently interfered with the propagation of this error which would have immediately identified the source of the problem. I have a fairly involved root cron task that I moved verbatim from another server. On the original server, this task ran without problem. On the new server, when this task runs via cron, which I confirm is happening by looking in the cron log, no files are transferred and no error is reported. However, if I copy cron command from roots crontab and paste it into a terminal session on the new server then the task runs to completion and the files are transferred. This task involves sshfs, fuse, and rsync and employs pki certificates for authentication. The fact that it works from the shell without alteration and yet not from cron is the issue. How to dump mails via HTTP

How can i dump with human-readable format all e-mails sent and received via HTTP web-interface, for example, via aol.com or gmail.com - it's just examples, there's own mail service, but not under control. Connections to web-iface not secured with HTTPS, pure HTTP. In case of POP3/SMTP - i can successfully dump it with mailsnarf from dsniff rpm. Please, help with something! I have done a bit of experimenting and I am confused respecting the evident behaviour of this module. If I do this: sshd;*;*;Wk0700-1500 Then all user ids fail to log in (at the present time). However, if I add this: sshd;*;user01;Al0000-24000 sshd:*:*:Wk0700-1500 Then I get the same result for user01. If I do this instead: sshd:*:*:Wk0700-1500 sshd;*;user01;Al0000-24000 Then I also get the same result for user01; Forced disconnection. The inference I draw is that the time.conf file is processed until either a failure or the end of the file is encountered, which then counts as a success. Is this right? The manual pages and examples give no hint that this is what happens. They state in fact that sshd;*;user01;Al0000-24000 should always let user01 login. And that clearly does not happen. Coolkey and esc and "SmartCard"s, oh, my

What's happening: I put my "SmartCard" in the reader, and the Coolkey phone home window pops up. I close it, and the SmartCard manager window pops up, saying it's not initialized. Neither of these should be happening with these cards (US federal gov't issue, not DoD). Googling, I find <https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2010-0068.html>, and in that, it says (in part): Excerpt: * the Red Hat Enterprise Security Client (ESC) incorrectly identified CAC cards as CoolKey cards, and mistakenly opened the Phone Home dialog after doing so. With this update, CoolKey correctly identifies CAC cards and assigns the correct functionality to them. With this fix, it is still possible to view certificates and diagnostics for CAC cards, though the management functions are now disabled. Finally, note that the RHBA-2010:0066 esc update must be installed in order to fully resolve this issue. (BZ#499976) --- end excerpt --- It appears to be bug: 226790. So, it sounds *exactly* like what's happening to me... except it's not fixed. Note also the reference to the esc update. a) it refers to 1.1.0.12.el5 of esc, and I have 1.1.0.12.el5, and I find and go to <https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2010-0066.html> which says this file is outdated, and b) this link is *wrong* - it reads File outdated by: RHSA-2010:0501, which has nothing to do with esc, but is a firefox critical fix. Anyone have any experience with this? This card should *never* be calling home.... mark

I am investigating how to limit user logins via sshd to specific times of day. I have the basic syntax but what I want to know is how does pam_time.so process time.conf. Say I have a clutch of users that should login between 07:00 and 18:00 Monday to Friday. I infer that the following will handle that: sshd;*;*,Wk0700-1800 However, what is not clear to me is how does one permit certain userids additional login periods while handling the majority of users as above. Say user01 should also be allowed to logon during Saturday mornings Sa0800-1200 and early evenings the rest of the week wk1830-2100 Do I do this? sshd:*;user01;AL1830-2100&Wk0700-1800&Sa0800-1200 sshd:*:*:Al1830-2100 or will this work? sshd:*:user01:Sa0800-1200 sshd:*:user01:Wk1830-2100 sshd:*:*:Al0700-1800 or will this? sshd:*:*:Al0700-1800 sshd:*:user01:Wk1830-2100 sshd:*:user01:Sa0800-1200 What I am trying to understand is whether the first result encountered, either success or failure, is what is applied to a given login attempt. Or, does the stack progress until success or it ends in which case it fails? Problem starting PostgreSQL-8.4 with SSL

I installed PG-8.4 for Redhat from the PG84 repo. Everythign works save only that when I try to enable ssl connections then I get this error: Auto configuration failed 16276:error:0E065068:configuration file routines:STR_COPY:variable has no value:conf_def.c:629:line 207 I have verified that the server key and certificate are present, have the correct ownership (postgres:postgres), permissions (600) and that the certificate is valid. Validity Not Before: Dec 6 17:58:47 2010 GMT Not After : Dec 7 17:58:47 2015 GMT I have checked audit.log and there are no SELinux issues reported. I gather that this is an OpenSSL error of some sort but I have no clue what it means or where to search for the problem. In the control script of my daemon in /etc/init.d?, I have # chkconfig: 35 97 3 The result of this is that I have links: /etc/rc.d/rc1.d/K03... /etc/rc.d/rc3.d/S97... /etc/rc.d/rc5.d/S97... As mentioned in a previous thread, my complex daemon throws an exception when I shutdown. Perhaps things might be better if I had: /etc/rc.d/rc3.d/K03... Might this be a good idea? If so, how can I make it happen automatically? Thanks, Mike.

2.6.18-194.26.1.el5 NFS4 race conditions?

Are there any known race conditions with 2.6.18-194.26.1.el5 x86_64 and NFS4? Today a user managed to shut down two identical Intel servers by copying a simple text file via NFS4. Reverting back to 17.1 made the error disappear. On other non-identical hardware the error was not reproducible (so it must be a combination of hardware and this special kernel revision). Anybody interested in a kernel dump? It's only 16GB. I could install kernel-debuginfo and try to get something out of the dump.. Centos DS and user password change

Added that ACL (via centos-idm-console): (targetattr = "userPassword") (version 3.0; acl "ChangePass"; allow (write) (userdn = "ldap:///self") and (dns="*.neyvabank.ru") ;) No effect.
