frr packages for CentOS 8

Hello, I'm not seeing free range routing (frr) packages for CentOS 8. The RHEL8 docs say frr is the replacement for quagga. https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/8/ht… What am i missing? Cheers, Dan

Centos 8 server rebooting...

Can someone provide some guidance with my server, I have a fairly new centos 8 server, pretty much just a KVM host but I have noticed that its dumping and rebooting at various times. Journalctl does not go back past the reboot so I am unable to catch what may be causing it, it appears to be KVM from /var/log/messages and it appears I should have a kernel dump file but I am unable to find it. I had these same kvm images running on the centos 7 server for over a year at a time, not sure what is making things less stable. Any help would be appreciated, thanks. I just built a CentOS7 system on a Zotac NANO PC. I used a 320GB 2.5" HD I had sitting around and installed with Standard Partitions on XFS. The drive is spinning, nonstop. How can I monitor if there is actually disk i/o to warrant this constant spinning. So noatime for all partitions work with XFS? I did some browsing and the claim is XFS uses realtime which is better? than noatime? Perhaps it is just occasional writes to messages (at least 1 a minute) that determines to keep on spinning. But it is annoying.

Hallo, I ve a samba problem. I m using a samba server on centos 7. The share ist mounted by windows 7 and a centos client. Everything is working but touch filename on the share shows the message "no permission" allthough the file is written. Has anyone a hint for me? Ralf

OK. That is interesting. I am assuming tps is transfers per sec? I would have to get a stop watch, but it seems to go a bit of time, and then a write. Is there something that would accumulate this and give me a summary over some period of time? Of course it better NOT be doing its own IOs... Intel Wireless 3160 adapter misbehaving

Need help modding src.rpms to generate complete SAMBA AD DC binary RPMs for CentOS 8

When RHEL8 and CentOS8 were released, I was looking forward to setting up SAMBA as a AD DC server for CentOS8. But when I lifed the hood on the samba.spec file I found the option to build the samba-dc binary rpm has been disabled for rhel family builds. Apparently Red Hat does not want to support a unified SAMBA AD DC environment. I believe we have all of the componentns needed to set up a fully up-to-date samba-dc binary. But it's been decades since I last rolled up my sleeves with my hardbound copy of "Maximum RPM" and built custom binary rpms. Has anyone already done this as a COPR or similar project? Failing that, I'm willing to work with anyone with more up-to-date rpmbuild tools to create and document the process. --Doc Savage Fairview Heights, IL

I've just tried a yum update on one of my C7 boxes and got the following output. I'm guessing to fix this I need to re-install the RPM, but I can't remove it because of dependancies, so how can I fix the problem? I've managed to download a later version of the RPM, but haven't managed to find the same version as the one installed. Possible Font problem with CentOS 7

Hi, I've got a possible font problem with a fully updated CentOS 7 system. An example with the man command. #man kill Should return the following KILL(1) User Commands KILL(1) NAME kill - terminate a process SYNOPSIS kill [-s signal|-p] [-q sigval] [-a] [--] pid... kill -l [signal] but what I actually get is the following KILL(1) User Commands KILL(1) kill - terminate a process [ signal| ] [ sigval] [ ] [ ] pid... [signal] Notice the missing text. If I select the text and paste it into an editor I see the missing text. So it's there just not displaying on the screen. I also notice the effect with links embedded in e-mails. I use evolution. Embedded links do not appear in the e-mail but if I hover over a link location then it appears in the text box at the bottom of the page and I can select it. I learned from the Centos-devel email list that they aren't sending out email to centos-announce for updates to CentOS 8, but only updating an RSS feed. I think this is a bad idea since no one uses RSS anymore (ducks for cover). PL2303 Device With HP PID get garbage data after plug-in

Hello I installed CentOS 8 on a clean system.I tested a pl2303 ic with different PID. If i use HP PID 0x4349,i will receive junk data after connecting, but the pl2303 PID 0x2303 work normally. Hi, On my CentOS-8 box firewalld will not start. It appears to be because the nf_conntrack module cannot be loaded. I saw on the net that a similar issue occurred on C7, but I couldn't find the solution. What is going wrong? Any ideas? Spacewalk 2.9 Sync Status bar not showing progress

Is this a known bug? I cannot get the Snc Status to show progress on the Channel Repositories -> sync page. I must tail -f the logfile to monitor progress which is ok but the status bar works on my 2.8 server. udev on CEntOS7 - can't get a match, looking for tips...

The mtx binary requires my tape library to be assigned a sg# driver, but the kernel periodically renumbers the sg devices. Normally, we would write a udev rule to manually assign a persistent name, but it looks like things have changed as I can't seem to get a match on CEntOS7. I'd appreciate any feedback or pointers to help me get my rule working. NFS shutdown issue

Hi all, I have an odd interaction on a CentOS 7 file server. The basic setup is a minimal 7.x install. I have 4 internal drives (/dev/sd[a-d]) configured in a RAID5 and mounted locally on /data. This is exported via NFS to ~12 workstations which use the exported file systems for /home. I have an external drive connected via USB (/dev/sde) and mounted on /rsnapshot. I use rsnapshot to back up the RAID5 to the external drive periodically. I also export /rsnapshot (read only) to the workstations so users can grab a backup copy of /home data if needed. These two mounts (/data and /rsnapshot) should be independent of each other. However, a couple of times now I've had somebody accidentally unplug my backup drive (sde), which causes NFS to shut down. CentOS 8 apcupsd or nut and duplicity

Hello Again, Is there any update on nut or apcupsd for CentOS 8? Also, I noticed that duplicity is not currently available for CentOS 8. I got the Fedora 30 SRPM for duplicity to build on CentOS, but ran into a dependency issue and cannot find python-devel. Any suggestions on alternatives or how to get duplicity going on CentOS 8? I usually start by setting up a new account and unset all SHELL variables in said account. I then see if the problem occurs. If it doesn't, I make changes one by one from the other shells variables to see if it does. HW update. Fedora 30 to Centos?

Due hardware update. Many years on Fedora, would like to swap out to AMD motherboard( x570) and graphics (RX480) I'm led to believe that Fedora Linux is too 'new' for Centos. Question for those with experience of both, what will I miss on Centos wrt Fedora? Not all that bothered about being 'up to the minute', and after 20+ Fedora installs it does get to be a drag... CentOS 8 and DELL 7540 Intel AX200 WIFI

Hello all, I recently bought a brand new Dell Precision 7540 laptop. Before buying I checked the specifications from the RedHat hardware list and they said that it was "fully RedHat 8 Certified" and listed all the hardware that was "certified" to work with that laptop. https://access.redhat.com/ecosystem/hardware/3979771 I have had good results the last few years with Dell and CentOS, all the equipment has worked fine. However, this time, I got the laptop, installed CentOS 8, and the built-in ethernet port works fine but the Intel AX200 Wifi is not recognized and doesn't show up, so I can't use WiFi, but everything else seems to be working fine. I verified that it *does* work under Windows 10, so the hardware is there and works fine, it just is not recognized and configured under CentOS 8. I called Dell Tech Support and they said "since you didn't buy RedHat 8 from us then we can't help you". Is this just a temporary problem that an update will soon solve or is this something that needs to be brought to the attention of RedHat? Should I file a bug report with bugzilla.redhat.com or is there something I'm not doing or need to do correctly to get it to work? Or is there some package I'm missing that will enable it? I was a bit flabergasted because I've gone for so many years without having to do anything special, it all "Just Works (TM)" on my previous computers. When I use "ls -al" on a directory, for files with only owner read/write permission, the displayed attributes are "-rw-", not "-rw-------". That means the file names don't line up with other files in the directory, which makes the listing harder to read. What changed where and how do I fix that?

Have "system"/Hunspell dictionaries stopped working in CentOS 7 Firefox?

Until quite recently, multiple spell-checker languages were available in Firefox on my CentOS 7 system. (They could be selected from "Languages" under the right-click menu in text boxes.) After a recent system upgrade, there is only "English (United States)". I don't think I had installed any extra Firefox dictionaries as such, but the "global" spell-checking support is set up to support a few extra languages via hunspell-<lang> software packages. I believe Firefox used to be able to pick these up - probably through a link from /usr/lib64/firefox to /usr/share/myspell that the CentOS firefox package provides. Did I get that right? Has the mechanism stopped working? Is there any way to re-enable the system dictionaries? Note that I get all the expected dictionaries in Thunderbird, which appears to rely on a similar hack. My Firefox is "firefox-68.1.0-2.el7.centos.x86_64". Thanks. - Toralf

smart card auth

I updated my work desktop to kernel-3.10.0-1062.4.1.el7.x86_64 yesterday as I was leaving. This morning booted into that new kernel I was unable to login using my common access card. Rebooted in the previous kernel (3.10.0-1062.1.2.el7.x86_64) and smart card login works fine. Anyone else seeing any similar problems? UEFI and PXE

We have a working PXE setup. I've tried to adapt it to UEFI as per RHEL6 manual, but the client won't boot. Strangely, tcpdump shows that the client tries to download all files via tftp from the dhcp server rather than the tftp server (they are different). next-server is pointing to the tftp server. Any clues?

For example, currently a line in my kickstart would be: part /home --ondisk=/dev/sda --fstype ext4 --size=58G --asprimary What is missing so the type is set correctly to linux root or linux home? Putting together a system build, AMD based. Ryzen 5 CPU on X570 chipset with Radeon RX480 GPU. Guessing this will be supported by Centos OK?
