Hi! selinux violation does not get logged

After upgrading to centos 5.4 I am getting a selinux violation, yet nothing is logged to /var/log/audit/audit.log. Other violations do get logged. The violation occurs when running the following command on the mail server: aspen> /usr/bin/Mail centos(a)centos.org Subject: test hi Cc: aspen> send-mail: warning: premature end-of-input on /usr/sbin/postdrop -r while reading input attribute name send-mail: fatal: nataraj(500): unable to execute /usr/sbin/postdrop -r: Success If I run with "setenforce 0" /usr/bin/Mail works. With "setenforce 1" it gets the error above, yet the violation does not get logged, so I can't tell how to fix it. Note: /usr/bin/Mail is the postfix version of /usr/bin/Mail. Any ideas how I can find out what the violation is so I can add rules to allow it? Nataraj

Hi For sure no problems, I see this about everyday, the major reason is that the rh driver is not certified for use with Dell,HP or IBM for that matter, if we get a support request where I work and the RH driver is used for the qlogic card then customer must install the certified driver from the vendor, this has a lot to do with compabillity with the bios etc, I am not saying that the RH driver is bad it is just unsupported by most vendors. It for sure is documented to be used at least in the NetApp host utilities guide, without any warning to prefer the driver package provided on the QLogic site. And I do not see any problem using it with CentOS / RHEL 5 device-mapper-multipath on a lot of systems. I wanted to use RHCS for an ISCSI-SAN setup, with GFS. LVS can work with RHCS. Cannot afford F5's. Am in the process of trying out RHCS with LVS. Otherwise I will fall back on LVS with Mysql replication across nodes.

Apache/Cluster issue -- Single public IP address

I want to set up a cluster that is used for web hosting (RHCS cluster). Recently, I experimented with a 2 node cluster and was able to run it successfully. However, I have started facing some issues with Apache, which I had configured as a service using the Cluster configuration tool. To do this Apache needs a floating IP address. This address is in addition to the network interface IP address. For example if my NIC IP is 192.168.1.1, then I need 192.168.1.2 as a floating IP address, and this has to be bound to apache. At least this is what I understood after several hours of experimentation. I also figured that if I configured 192.168.1.1 as a cluster resource and bound it to apache, the cluster manager failed to start apache and the NIC was put "off". ( In effect 192.168.1.1 was removed from the NIC ). However, the Apache service ran fine when bound to the ADDITIONAL IP i.e. 192.168.1.2 ( the floating IP ). The above example was just a lab setup to test the cluster. My problem is that I only have a single public IP address, to serve my web server and my question is this: Is this the end of the road, for installing apache as a service with ONE public IP address?? I am willing to give further info, if required.

Best way to hold at 5.3 release

I need to do some testing with 5.3 as its suggested that 5.4 has "some bugs in the toolchain and libc". That being the case, I can install with a url and repo line pointing to a mirror with 5.3 still but how does one properly make sure during subsequent uses of yum it doesn't attempt to use 5.4 rpms? Is it simple enough to just manually set '$releasever' to 5.3 in the repo file or do I need to do anything else? What actually happens to the 5.3 repo so that `yum update` actually switches repo's when one is available? Thanks! jlc

Hi Not sure if you have done this already but install multipath as the os sees multiple presented luns which needs to be tied up to one by multipath also do not use the rh drivers for you qlogic it's not recommended at all for any storage solutions. High l-avg with centos 4.8 on G2 only

Hi We deployed centos 4.8 on HP DL380 G2, G3 and G4 servers (same number of cpus). The same software is running on all servers. Only on G2 servers we see a low cpu utilization combined with high load-average. For example, during the same time of day and same workload, on a G2 I see a l-avg of 11.31 and on a G4 I see 2.68. The server response time seems unchanged and we don't have any problem with it so far, but I need to figure out why the l-avg remains high. We were running redhad AS 3 before, and the l-avg was low on all server type. Anyone have an idea where I should look.

Hello, We are testing the Centos LDAP Directory Server but are running into issues with applications (SOGo) authenticating against the LDAP system. The crux of my question is, can I just treat the Centos Directory Server as a generic OpenLDAP configuration on the client side? In more detail when I try to add account via ldapadd: -------------------------------- ldapadd -f sogo.ldif -x -W -D cn="Directory Manager",dc=XXX,dc=de Enter LDAP Password: ldap_bind: No such object (32) matched DN: dc=XXX,dc=de ------------------------------- It is my understanding that this means the "Directory Manager" user was not found. If you have the epel repo installed and enabled during a yum update, you get java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0-1.0.b12.el5.2 instead of the stock .b09 version. Is this intentional and desirable? Greetings, Somehow my googling skills are not upto mark. Pray can somebody point out resources which works like GnuDIP but listens to Dyndns protocol as one of the proprietary gateways can talk only in dyndns or ddo. Basic scenario: one Private DNS server updating itself using data thrown at it by various known adsl based client (gateway device) using dyndns / ddo protocol. This server will be on a public IP and updates should happen only by those clients (gateway device). Yum Issue

Yum using proxy that requires authentication and a Password that contains the two characters \/ fails normally I can get yum to work with a proxy that requires authentication when required by doing something like http_proxy=http://<my username>:<my password>@<proxy server>:<proxy server port> export http_proxy or by filling in the appropriate information in yum.conf. But if the password contains the characters \/ this does not work. I have tried quoting the password in various ways none seem to work eg export http_proxy=\/alid@proxy.example.com:80 export http_proxy='\/alid@proxy.example.com:80' export http_proxy="\/alid@proxy.example.com:80" export http_proxy=\\\/alid@proxy.example.com:80 Anyone have any ideas for a work around to this that doesn't involve changing the password or modifying the proxy config ? I have tried reporting this as http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=4123 but mantisbt presents the information I submitted in a way I didn't expect. If anyone can tell me how to modify the bug report to look the way I expected please let me know.

I recently purchased a HP Officejet Pro 8500 (A909a) and it's ethernet attached. It's been configured and works perfectly from WinXP, Win Vista, Windows 7, and Fedora 11 x86_64. However, on my machine running CentOS 5.4 x86_64 I can't get the configuration to work so that it prints duplex (2-sided). The HP Setup appears to be working from the command line, but the graphic portion doesn't appear to work. Any ideas? TIA, Gene Poole

I have a user w/o a shell that runs an app as a daemon that needs to use mutt to email an attachment from a script. During testing when the app was ran as root everything worked:) Now that we obviously are running as a user w/o a shell this little bit broke. I used mutt as I needed to send the attachment as mime, and the ability to specify a muttrc from the cli when executed was useful so we could tweak the mail headers etc... Since there is no local mb's at all on this server, are there any mutt gurus that know off hand how I can manipulate the behavior of mutt to simply send w/o looking for a mailbox? Thanks, jlc

I have discovered that the current version of rsyslog available in the repository does not support GSSAPI. I am wondering if any of you bright individuals out there have been discovered an rsyslog v3 RPM. If worse comes to worse I can always make my own RPM however this would greatly save me some time. conga and "virsh nodeinfo"

Hi folks, I have run into a confusing problem. My initial problem is: Conga does not offer "Add a virtual machine service". So I googled and found a RedHat advisory on that: http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2009-1623.html which points updates that should fix this. I checked on my cluster, but the relevant packages are current (and even if ALL packages are current it does not work). So I tried manually what is described in the above advisory: "virsh nodeinfo --readonly" throws an error saying that "--readonly" is not implemented. That seems to be the problem. Running "virh nodeinfo" as a non-root user (like Conga does) leads to an error as described in the above advisory. Reading the man page on virsh suggests that there is a --readonly flag to URIs, not to simple virsh commands. Now I am stuck. Googleing does not lead to anything helpful. Has anyone else run into this and resolved it? Or can someone send me a valid vm ressource entry for the /etc/cluster/cluster.conf file so I can adapt that? I have not found really enlightening examples on the web, and docs on this seem quite sparse. Thanks for any hint or help. Dirk

Centos 5.4 and TYAN s4985 motherboard....

Was wondering if anyone has any luck with the Tyan s4985 motherboard, I had loaded up the latest 5.4 release and in installed most everything that I wanted but when I loaded it up, as in processor wise it would lock up. Funny thing I could still ssh to it but not do a su - or anything from the console. I think it is kernel related and tried the previous kernel but it still exhibited the same symptom. The only thing I saw in the log was a message about a soft lockup on cpu0, there is a open bug for that but from the description doesn't appear to cause any issues. I am running 4 opteron 8356 just for clarification....

As you can see, the ports are not those associated with the service requested. SSHD is configured to listen on the standard port (22) and only on a single IP address that is supposed to be reachable only from the internal network (this is a multi-homed system configured as a gateway). These are getting through the brute force filters because the attempts are directed against unchecked ports. I suspect that these represent no immediate danger to our systems because there are no active services on any of the ports and because we have a guillotine rule at the end of our INPUT chain. The firewall is configured to only allow connections to specified ports and to drop any new connection attempts to all the others. My confusion is over why these things are making it into the logs at all when sshd does not listen on those ports and the ports themselves are supposed to inaccessible through the firewall. There presence inoculates a doubt in my mind that things are properly configured. I would appreciate any insight as to why these attempts are nonetheless logged by sshd. -- *** E-Mail is NOT a SECURE channel *** James B. Weird update problem

For some time now updates on my CentOS box had skipped exiv2. Yesterday I decided to do something about it, so I removed it - together with gwenview, digikam and, IIRC, libexiv2. That sounded reasonable, so I accepted the removal, then re-installed gwenview and digikam, which, of course, pulled in the two exiv2 packages. The version number of exiv2 sounded familiar, but I assumed that it would bring in the best-match version, and continued. This morning, seeing that more updates were announced, I ran update again. Installing over network

Hi All, I see that sparc.centos.org does not contain any ISO's so that I can install from CD. How does one install over the internet? I have never done it before. I assume use the boot.iso and make sure that I have DHCP turned on so that I get an IP automatically from my router? Any advice? -Jason

PAM configuration?

Hello all, Can anyone please help out with configuring PAM? I've checked a couple of tutorials online.. though most of them are related to Login though I want to set PAM up for SSH logins... I've set the max erroneous logins to just THREE and even after trying to login with an error pass I still can get in... also is there a way I could enable the PAM module which uses crack library to check the strength of a users password? any help with this is truly appreciated... thanks in advance

OT: piped greps with regex

List, Happy NY. >From the bash command below, I'm trying to parse out the startsector value: $ sudo file mini_vusb.img mini_vusb.img: x86 boot sector, Microsoft Windows XP MBR, Serial 0x25d84; partition 1: ID=0xe, active, starthead 1, startsector 32, 390496 sectors First try was with grep/egrep but I wanted to capture 'startsector 32' as a group (). Nothing came close to working. Fail 1 Next attempt was with Perl file mini_vusb | perl -lane '$i=0 ;for (@F) {print substr($F[$i+1],0,-1) if ($_ eq "startsector"); $i++}' the above works, but it's too much fire power for the job :) Actually I came up with it in a minute or two once I remembered the special var @F. Success 1 Last effort led to this $ sudo file mini_vusb.img | grep -Po 'startsector\s+\d+'| grep -Po '\d+' 32 I like this best. Is there a way to shorten it up? -- Mark

Sendmail error: auxpropfunc error invalid parameter supplied

I just noticed this error in my messages log after restarting sendmail. The only change I have made is 1) manual fix in /usr/share/spamassassin/72_active.conf 2) sa-update (several times) Now the mail is not running ok, my mail queue keeps growing. Regards, Jussi Hirvi

Tiny webserver to run as root

Hi all Does anyone have a suggestion for some software, a tiny webserver that is able to run as root and execute CGI scripts? It should be smaller than apache and preferably even smaller than lighttpd. It doesn't need a whole lot of features, it only needs to be able to execute CGI scripts. I have tried a few: nanoweb (which is written in php as well) but has some problems with CGI scripts and when it runs in multi process mode it brings the system load up to exactly 1.00. Nullhttpd, but it's old and unmaintained. Tinyhttpd isn't up for the job as well (kept crashing at times). Thanks, Best regards, Glenn
