Xen with multiple virtual network interfaces with one bond

Hello all, I have been running xen for a while now with two interfaces: dummy0 for host only communication, and eth0 for the outside network. my script looks like this: (/etc/xen/scripts/network-bridge-more) ------------------------------------------------------------------ #! /bin/sh dir=$(dirname "$0") "$dir/network-bridge" "$@" vifnum=0 netdev=dummy0 bridge=xenbr0 "$dir/network-bridge" "$@" vifnum=1 netdev=eth0 bridge=xenbr1 ------------------------------------------------------------------ now i have a newer setup where eth0 and eth1 are bonded. If i change eth0 in the above script to bond0 it messes up the bond completely and stops working. I have use /etc/xen/scripts/network-bridge-bonding, and that works, but then I can only have one virtual network for my domU I have tried this: ------------------------------------------------------------------ #! /bin/sh dir=$(dirname "$0") "$dir/network-bridge" "$@" vifnum=0 netdev=dummy0 bridge=xenbr0 "$dir/network-bridge-bonding" "$@" vifnum=1 netdev=bond0 bridge=xenbr1 ------------------------------------------------------------------ but that also does not work. They're just conveniently packaged in an rpm, and use dkms for auto-rebuilding. And they don't upgrade to the latest version every time nvidia releases one, which can be good or bad depending on your needs. This is true both for nvidia-x11-drv and dkms-nvidia-x11-drv: the latter is simply a newer version with a name change, and it's the one you should use (but anyways if you installed the older package yum upgrade should offer to upgrade to dkms-*). lost RHEL entitlements

Hello, I have some servers that have lost their RHEL update entitlements. Thinking through it, I realized we may not really need those entitlements. However, I would still like to automate keeping them up to date for security fixes. So, is there any way to swap out the Yum/up2date RHEL repositories for CentOS without breaking things? authentication loosely tied to active directory?

What's the best authentication scheme when you are dealing with an active directory that someone else controls? I've been using pam configured for smb and local passwords where a local account is needed for real logins (but either the domain or local password will work) and web services don't require a local account. That's most of the functionality I want and it doesn't take pre-arrangement with the AD administrator, but I have to glue mod_auth_pam into httpd and I'm not sure how to duplicate it for java web services. Is there a way to use an LDAP proxy in a similar way so I can add accounts of my own but also accept anything from one or more AD's? Trouble (?) reformatting flash drive to include former U3 partition

Semi-OT? I just got a new SanDisk 8GB flash drive, and, as usual, it came with the U3 software (for Windoze) on a "CD" partition and considerably less than 8GB on the disk partition. I put it into my WinXP portable and told U3 to delete itself, but I still can't get at the old U3 part of the drive. I've tried WinXP's format command, disk management and CentOS's fdisk, and nothing will give me more than 7,872,512 bytes per cylinder, times 1019 cylinders yields 8,022,089,728 bytes. Is that right, or should there be more? fdisk also reports that the drive has 8029 "MB", or 8029470208 bytes, which is 7,380,480 bytes difference (until it gets allocated into the 8,022,089,728 bytes of the partition) - I'm thinking this is a standard formatting loss. My 4GB flash drive has 4,096,189,440 bytes on it, and twice that would be 8,192,378,880, which is a difference of 170,289,152 bytes, or about 162+MB. The former "CD" partition (which is invisible, so far) only had 8,645,202 bytes used on it, which leaves a huge amount of room to spare of inaccessible empty space. What am I missing? Or is that just the way it is? (The package only says "Some capacity is not available for data storage." That doesn't really tell me enough.) Thanks. mhr

OT - Tomcat CLASSPATH issue

if this is ignored then fair enough as its not really the place for it but if anyone has seen this it would be good to know tomcat is 6.0.18 CLASSPATH is set in /etc/sysconfig/<appname> and this IS getting used as _some_ configuration items are being picked up from /etc/<appname> but the issue is when default setting from within the webapp are not being overwritten by settings in /etc/<appname> ie if they are in /etc/<appname> and /var/lib/<appname>/webapps/ROOT/WEB-INF/classes/foo then the webapps location wins. If i echo the CLASSPATH during app start then /etc/<appname> comes first so i dont see why the values in here are not taking precedence any thoughts?

I am thinking of getting an Areca ARC-1222 connected to 6 sata drives in raid 10. http://www.areca.com.tw/products/pcietosas01.htm I have read good things about the ARC-1220 (iop333) sata only. The ARC-1222 (iop348) is the newer generation (sata or sas). Does anyone have advice/experience on this drive controller? -- Robert Arkiletian

nvidia dual monitor setup centos howto

I had some trouble setting up dual monitors on centos with an nvidia card. I managed to track stuff down, so I thought I'd make it public on the list. I have an nvidia quadro nvs 290 in a Dell, recently installed centos5. Same stuff should apply for other nvidia cards. I needed nvidia-x11-drv.x86_64. It is available from rpmforge. Installing rpmforge is described on this page(http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories/RPMForge). If you just open the display panel and choose dual monitor settings and restart X, X can't get started and gives error messages. When I restore the old /etc/X112/xorg.conf, it comes back to life, without dual monitors of course. I did yum update kernel-smp and rebooted the machine, and blops.....the drive opened! Thanks for your help! Farkas' solution is exactly right. I have been banging my head against this problem for a while now and it wasn't until I finally paced myself and read carefully through the entire thread that I found this solution. Here is the procedure spelled out a bit more precisely. Get the CentOS 5.2 rpms of popt, rpm, rpm-libs, rpm-python and rpm-build. Obviously you can use most any mirror and if you are using i386 you should replace x86_64 with i386. I prefer to use RIT since its my Alma Mater and they seem to have good bandwidth and keep older versions. # wget http://mirrors.rit.edu/centos/5.2/os/x86_64/CentOS/popt-1.10.2-48.el5.x8 6_64.rpm # wget http://mirrors.rit.edu/centos/5.2/os/x86_64/CentOS/rpm-4.4.2-48.el5.x86_ 64.rpm # wget http://mirrors.rit.edu/centos/5.2/os/x86_64/CentOS/rpm-build-4.4.2-48.el 5.x86_64.rpm # wget http://mirrors.rit.edu/centos/5.2/os/x86_64/CentOS/rpm-libs-4.4.2-48.el5 .i386.rpm # wget http://mirrors.rit.edu/centos/5.2/os/x86_64/CentOS/rpm-python-4.4.2-48.e l5.x86_64.rpm It took some testing but because we are rolling back several packages RPM handled the dependencies a little weird but here's the rpm command that does all the magic. # rpm -Uvh --oldpackage --nodeps popt-1.10.2-48.el5.x86_64.rpm rpm-4.4.2-48.el5.x86_64.rpm rpm-libs-4.4.2-48.el5.i386.rpm rpm-python-4.4.2-48.el5.x86_64.rpm --nodeps is required because rpm complains about needing to fill some dependencies for 4.4.2-48 but we are in fact trying to install those very dependencies so we have to tell rpm not to bother. If you are concerned throw in a --test switch to make sure everything goes well. I never like using rpm to roll back rpm, just seems dangerous, like crossing the streams. After rolling back to the CentOS 5.2 versions of popt, rpm, rpm-libs and rpm-python I am able to successfully init the epel-5-i386 mock root. I tested several times and made sure to clear the build root and yum caches in my tests. Farkas' suggested this might be a bug in rpm or popt which seems to hold true. Clearly between point releases something changed that caused rpm to behave slightly differently when it comes to ordering transactions. Is there a way to perhaps load a tiny distro on /boot, reconfigure grub to load that, and then use that to do the deed? I can copy the data to other nearby servers, so I'm not worried about that, but I don't have the install CDs handy. I could download something to a nearby server though, if that would help. Bob

re-install over internet

Hello, I just got back from a datacenter where I installed a new server running CentOS 5.3. I set up a software raid with md0 being /. (Only one mount, didn't split anything up.) I just discovered that instead of raid 1, it did raid 0... Not exactly what I wanted! Probably missed that little check when installing. So now, I need to change this. But since the whole OS is on this raided partition that I want to change, I'm a bit stuck. Is there a way to launch an installer while in the OS that I can re-install the whole thing over the internet, without having to physically go to the box? Speed of installation is not that much of an issue. It would obviously need to keep up some sort of shell with my current eth0 settings during the install. Thanks for any ideas! Bob

kickstart not install evolution

I wish to NOT install evolution during my kickstart process... In the %packages section I put a line -evolution but it still installed evolution. Hi all, sorry if this question gets duplicated, I can't seem to get e-mails to the list. I've installed vnc-server and kde-desktop but there appear to be no fonts available. All the text is little boxes. What else do I need to install to get the fonts? thanks

Hi all, I need to assign persistent names to some scsi disks on one host (CentOS 5.3 fully patched), but I can't because scsi_id doesn't returns any results. For example: [root@c5srv01 etc]# scsi_id -u -g -s /block/sda [root@c5srv01 etc]# scsi_id -u -g -s /block/sdb [root@c5srv01 etc]# scsi_id -u -g -s /block/sdc [root@c5srv01 etc]# scsi_id -u -g -s /block/sdd Somebody knows what can it be wrong?? can't access remote Windows 2008 desktop via Krdc / Remote Desktop

Hi all, Does anyone know why CentOS 5.+3 + latest KDE won't connect to a Windows 2008 server via Remote Desktop, yet it will work on a Windows 2003 server? I can easily connect to a Windows 2003 server, using rdp:/196.34.x.x and login and use the Windows 2003 server. But when I try the same with a Widows 2008 server, it just fails. I see if connecting, and then it "dies" without even displaying me the login screen. I would like to use ntpd for time sync not rdate or ntpdate. but after installation the ntpd, I found that listened at all interfaces like below. udp 0 0 192.168.111.2:123 0.0.0.0:* 11528/ntpd udp 0 0 xxx.xxx.62.20:123 0.0.0.0:* 11528/ntpd udp 0 0 127.0.0.1:123 0.0.0.0:* 11528/ntpd udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:123 0.0.0.0:* 11528/ntpd Is there any way or option that only listen 127.0.0.1 for security reason? I went and added a file to /etc/logrotate.d and ran it to rotate the file /var/log/btmp { minsize 1M create 0600 root root rotate 1 } Then I added the same to the logrotate.conf and deleted the file I had added for manual rotation. To /etc/logrotate.conf /var/log/btmp { monthly minsize 1M create 0600 root root rotate 1 } The manual worked. I am gonna delete the 800mb file and call it a wash. Good thing I left enough on that partition to deal with it. Chmod 0600, root/root, add to etc/logrotate.d, monthly. Any other ideas to optimize this are welcome. This was as installed and quite odd that it was not included in the setup. Thanks

Hi List, i found a Problem with the CentOS RPM for OpenSwan exactly its the Version: openswan.i386 2.6.14-1.el5_3.2 . If you set the Pluto Debug-Level in the ipsec.conf to "all" (Exactly the line looks like this" plutodebug="all" ") and now a client connect to the Server the Ipsec gets an Segmentation Fault and is killed. We Authenticate our clients with x509 Certificates. The Ipsec ist also killed when a client dosent own a valid Certificate. The Problem occured also on an 64bit System. Btmp and Wmtp log rotate

IN the /var/log/ folder there are two files WTMP and BTMP BTMP is getting huge after a year, about 800MB, WTMP is getting close to 1MB. In the /etc/logrotate.conf I see this -------------------- # no packages own wtmp -- we'll rotate them here /var/log/wtmp { monthly minsize 1M create 0664 root utmp rotate 1 } ------------------- I can see where WTMP will probably rotate at some point soon. However there is nothing for BTMP. I thought about doing the same thing for btmp however the permissions are set at 0600 currently on the file. Will logrotate be able to rotate it at 0600 and if it creates at 0600 will it still work. Should I change to 0644 or 0664 (which would allow others to read the file?) /var/log/btmp { monthly minsize 1M create 0664 root utmp rotate 1 } I saw some fedora bugs on this and many were worried about the permissions and had issues with the logrotate of this file due to it. No solution was yet shown though they said it was fixed upstream. My file is almost a gigabyte and I am thinking of just 'touching' it to clear it. Any imput, ideas, etc, would be cool. Manually rotate it? Ideas?

I was using CentOS 5.2 at the time and was informed that 5.2 was broken in this regard. I have upgraded to CentOS 5.3 now and I am trying to get IPv6 to provision an entire range of IPs, but I am still getting the old behavior and no IPs are being provisioned. I see no other errors or messages saying anything is wrong or otherwise. This is becoming very tiresome. It would be really nice to be able to provision IPv6 ranges as needed instead of having to place scripts in rc.local to manually provision the IPs that are needed, one by one. I've been seeing this kind of crap now for some time, and only in the past couple of weeks did I realize I was using the Plus Kernel instead of the normal stock kernel. Could this have something to do with it? Messages also appear mentioning something about a PowerNow K-8, which I thought was something you'd see from an AMD processor, not a quad core intel 64 bit box. Any insight or ideas appreciated, and whether or not it's something to worry about. Many thanks for looking things over and your comments, and this excerpt is straight out of the daily log. Any problem of auto updating using yum?

Hello, all. My systems are centos 4.x or 5.x(i386 and x86_64) and various services(apache, mysql, java, sendmail... etc..). and I would like to set auto update using yum. But some staffs didn't agree my auto update plan, because some services can be effected by auto update. There were no side effects just yum updating until now, and it seems impossible for me to check all packages whether side effects or not before updates. How about your opinions about this? Anyone who have experienced troubles by auto update? Is there any good way to solve this problem? Simple AD authentication for Samba share

I have a CentOS box that I'm basically using for file sharing with Samba. Currently I'm mapping the drive from an XP box with a Samba username/password combination. Is there a simple way to use AD or Windows authentication to allow the users to map the drive without having to use a separate username/password? router NAT problem

Hello All. I have a strange problem on my router. I use a xl2tpd program to establish a connection to the INTERNET. After I start xl2tpd it's create a new ppp0 device with correct ip parameters, also it's add some routes to the routing table and all this routes are correct too. After connection with provider are establish the router exec some simple iptables+NAT commands to give an INTERNET access to the LAN computers, and everything was working fine for a 2 or 3 years. But now but the local computers (192.168.127.0/24) con not establish a connection to some web sites or to some ftp servers. However, if I try to access to the same web sites from my router everything is good and it can access to every web or ftp server. First of all I recheck router table, and it's was correct. After it I rewrite my iptables rules (to create a simplest roles as can be) iptables -F iptables -F -t nat iptables -P FORWARD ACCEPT iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o ppp0 -s 192.168.127.0/24 -j SNAT --to-source [my internet ip] And nothing good happen. I try to use tcpdump to understand the problem, and not found the answer. Because there was no errors. Every packet from 192.168.127.0 iface had correct routing to ppp0 iface and after it the SNAT change the packets source ip to [my internet ip]. So everything looks correct, but when I try to access to some sites from router and from 192.168.127.[some] computer the "tcpdump -n ppp0" output was not the same. So, maybe someone can help me with understanding of this problem, because I don't have any ideas what can I do. I also know that router didn't have any hardware problem, because I have try to replace this router to another server and nothing has changed.

krb5kdc fails to start

CentOS 4.7, Kerberos 1.3.4 Hi All: This is driving bonkers. A couple of weeks ago I started working on implementing Kerberos. I got as far as getting the primary/master KDC running on our CentOS development system before I got dragged off to work on something a little more pressing. I finally got back to it this week only to find that the krb5kdc service now fails to start. A check of the log files shows it has been working right up until the system was rebooted Sunday night. The reboot itself was not the problem as there had been previous reboots after which krb5kdc was able to restart.
