fetchmail from a server and delete spam messages

Hi i have an old account on a pop3 server... i don't use for a long time...but i want to receive the emails from there sometimes... but i have a problem...this email has a lot of spam emails... I wish to know if there's a way to check all the emails and those emails that match at spamhaus or spamcop will be deleted... Anyone know f this can be done? Thanks

IPCop updates, Evolution Calendar rarely crashes now

I know a lot of you are using IPCop where you work. They have three (3) updates posted, during the past two (2) days. The last one, I'm getting an error, when I try to Download it, and I will report that to the IPCop list or bugzilla after I send this message. "No such file or directory http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/ipcop/ipcop-1.4.21-update.i386.tgz.gpg?d…" The problem I was having, after the huge update to 5.2, with the Evolution Calendar (which I do not use) crashing, when I exited from Evolution, has almost completely disappeared. One or more of the updates since the huge update eliminated most of that problem. It seems to only happen now when I am going to log out of my Desktop or shut it down and only rarely.

Oh, Boy. I am in trouble now.... I just installed Centos on a USB drive on my corp notebook. To not TOUCH my corp drive. I spent time with the drive partitioner to make sure that nothing was done to the internal hard drive... Well I missed something and I overwrote the encrypted bootloader on the hard drive. Now what? Can I rescue things? I am leaving for my flight in a couple hours to Dublin for IETF meeting. I have to get this working on my own. I hope there is another copy of the old boot loader somewhere on that system and some way to copy it?????

Centos 5.1 NFS problems

I know this is a centos forum but I suppose it would be appropriate to ask a redhat question :-) Is anyone aware of a NFS client/server problem with Redhat 5.1 where the client/NFS do extra lookup() and getattr() calls? This is very similar to CentOS' problem, http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=2635 My question is, would upgrading the kernel help? or is this a userland issue? TIA

preferred software RAID 10?

Hi all I'm looking at setting up software RAID 10, using CentOS 5.1 x64 - what is the best way todo this? I'm reading some sources on the internet, and get a lot of different "suggestions" 1 suggestion says to boot up with a Live CD like Knoppix or SystemRescueCD, setup the RAID 10 partitions, and then install Linux from there. 2. Another is to setup a small RAID 1 on the first 2 HDD's, install Linux, bootup, and then setup the rest as RAID 10 The others didn't really make sense to me, so how do I actually do this? And then, how do I setup the partitioning? Do I setup /boot on a separate RAID "partition"? 2 DHCP servers - different VLAN's

Hello guys, to describe my scenario i have 4 VLANS on my switch, each VLAN is different subject. I have one DHCP server for 3 VLANS + second one DHCP server for 1 VLAN - named VLAN 7 . Problem is , this started to make problems suddenly. VLAN 7 is not recieving IP adress from correct DHCP server . On DHCP server where declaration for subnet is configured, i am recieving this message : Jul 25 12:38:47 boss dhcpd: DHCPNAK on 10.123.42.169 to 00:16:cf:93:1f:33 via eth0 Jul 25 12:38:52 boss dhcpd: DHCPREQUEST for 10.123.42.169 from 00:16:cf:93:1f:33 via eth0: wrong network. How can i solve it and what does it mean? I am using authoritative clausule in each subnet deffinition. Thanks in advance! David

6TB SCSI RAID vs. Centos

I have an Infortrend RAID box I'd like to see as one big 6TB partition, but I only can get 2.2TB partitions to work. I was trying to do this with an Adaptec controller but apparently they are only (any of them) 48 bits wide. Does anybody have a working system for SCSI/Centos over 2.2TB? Securing serial ports - fax modems

I have already deployed a fax server and am about to deploy a backup system for this host at our off-site facility. It struck me that I have given no thought to securing the serial port to unauthorized access. The modem is a Multi-Tech MT5634ZBA which supports data as well as fax. So this poses the same type of risk, if not to the same degree, as an ssh or telnet port but without the availability of a firewall to throttle repeated unsuccessful connection attempts. I want up-to-dateish versions of TexLive, R, gnumeric, emacs, but on a more-or-less stable base of Centos-5.2. I asked for packages in this, but got no answers. So now I've built them and will let you try them if you want. I used the source packages from Fedora 8 and 9. I wanted TexLive because many of us have jumped ship to Ubuntu Linux 8.04 and it does offer TexLive, and the compatability across systems became an issue. With Centos5.2 shipping the years-out-of-date tetex, we were seeing things compile differently across systems. Making TexLive compile and install required a re-build with a newer version of poppler, but not with the absolutely newest version of poppler. Replacing poppler required a rebuild of evince. After emerging from dependency hell, it all seems OK. I uploaded the src.rpm files for the packages that I actually had to re-configure, even in the slightest. Otherwise, everything is in Fedora 8 or Fedora 9. We use LyX to edit LaTeX, so I had to have a newer version, along with pybliographic (which required recode). We also use Emacs and auctex to edit LaTeX, so those had to be built as well. All of these packages were built on a stock Centos 5.2 system, with all components as usual EXCEPT for the ones I provide below or the packages that can be downloaded from EPEL. As far as I can tell, everything works as well as it does on Fedora, no better. I'm using a Dell PERC 5/i with the drives configured as simple volumes (aka no hardware RAID). I beleive the PERCs are based on an LSI MegaRAID chipset/controller... There is another way too, make the disk a raw PV (no partition table) and use LVM. LVM can handle PVs up to 2^64 in size. Spamassassin as root and pyzor

I've just set up a new mailserver using Centos5.2 (sendmail+clamav-milter+spamass-milter). I'm using the spamass-milter package from rpmforge (spamass-milter-0.3.1-1.el5.rf). I notice that the default setup is to run it as root. I set up my previous mailserver on Centos4, and I can't remember if I did anything special, but on that machine it runs as user "sa-milt". Is it safe/recommended to run spamass-milter as root? Does it in fact shed the root privileges or something like that when it actually does some processing anyway? Are there good reasons why I should leave it run as root (besides it being the least effort option)? I found a few discussions on this topic on the web but I have ended up confused and would appreciate some advice. Ideally I would like a link to a webpage entitled "How I learnt to stop worrying and run spamass-milter as root". Also, a related question: is it worth installing pyzor, or will spamassassin on its own be enough? I ask because pyzor doesn't seem to be in any of the main repositories. Thanks in advance, Hywel.

Missing SDLT600's

Hi All, I have a CentOS5.2 server using a Qlogic QLE220 HBA, connected to Quantum DX30 and M1800 libraries via a Qlogic SANbox 5600 switch. I've installed the latest (v8.02.14) drivers from Qlogic for the HBA The issue I have is I am missing 2 of the 4 SDLT drives provided by the M1800 Library. The DX30 provides 6 drives, which are listed in dmesg and assigned /dev/st0->5. I would expect the SDLT's to be st6->10 but I only see up to st7 and dmesg only lists 2 Using the QLoigic SAN Surfer software all the LUN's/devices are visible to the host. FYI, I also have an old Sun220R connected to this same switch with a qlogic card; Solaris 9 has no trouble seeing all LUNs and devices. I've "googled" for a fair while and have not see anything that helps. My FC knowledge on CentOS is limited so any help with troubleshooting this would be greatly appreciated. TIA Dan

Possible bug in ifup-eth script of Centos 5.2 (combination of bond and bridge)

Dear CentOS, I think i found a "bug" in the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup-eth script of CentOS 5.2. i can post the my changed ifup-eth script if you want. Am I the first one with this problem? Situation: - eth2 and eth3 should be in bond1 interface - bond1 should be an interface of bridge named "iscsi" the problem is that the brctl addif command in ifup-eth gets executed before the slave interfaces of a bonding are enslaved. brctl addif fails if you are trying to add a bonding interface to a bridge and the bonding interface have no slaves. my solution was to switch the order in the ifup-eth script: - to the bonding (slave interfaces) stuff before the bridge stuff and its working... the bonding interface gets his slaves and can be added to the bridge without any errors. best regards Marco

BackupPC won't fork after CentOS 5.2 upgrade

For some time now i have been running BackupPC 3.1.0 on CentOS 5.1 x86_64 however after upgrading to CentOS 5.2 BackupPC will not start. "sudo /etc/init.d/backuppc start" return OK but there is no BackupPC processes. This fails also. # sudo -u backuppc /usr/bin/BackupPC -d # echo $? 0 This succeeds, but of course does not fork. # sudo -u backuppc /usr/bin/BackupPC So for some reason after the CentOS 5.2 upgrade it will not fork into the background. I have run the perl debugger over it and up until the fork everything is fine. Nothing appears in the LOG. Any ideas would be appreciated. Ben PS. Help recovering from an LVM issue

Hi People I just updated a CentOS 5.2 Server that is a Guest inside VMware ESX 3.50 Server using "yum update". By removing all references to VolGroup1 in /etc/fstab I was able to get a system that boots. Unfortunately I am not that familiar with LVM but using the following commands it looks like all the information about my logical volumes on VolGroup01 is gone is this correct? just wanted to get some feedback from the community. Over the last few days I have noticed my web server and email box have attempted to ssh'd to using weird names like admin,appuser,nobody,etc.... None of these are valid users. I know that I can block sshd all together with iptables but that will not work for us. I did a little research on google and found programs like sshguard and sshdfilter. Just wanted to know if anyone had any experience with anything like these programs or have any other advice. NFS V4?

Looks like just starting the nfs service turns on V2, 3, and 4 (based on reading the script, reading the man pages, and looking at the ports using netstat -l). However, I can connect using -t nfs in the mount, and -t nfs4 fails. I don't believe this is a firewall issue, internal IPs are fully open to each other according to an early rule in iptables. $ sudo mount host03:/home/ddb /mnt/ddb -t nfs4 -o rw,hard,intr mount: permission denied but $ sudo mount host03:/home/ddb /mnt/ddb -t nfs -o rw,hard,intr $ I'm not sure I especially care about NFS V4 (this is to share the programmers' home directories, so it's easy to work on any of the production systems; it won't be particularly high-load or any particularly strange usage pattern), but I care about understanding things at least. Both systems are running Centos 4.6. How to get additional packages? How secure is Yum?

Hello, I'm coming from Slackware and I'm searching for another distribution to run on my desktop and in near future also on a server. The *top priority* for me is security! I've test-installed CentOS on one of my test systems. So far anything went OK. After trying a bit, I would like to ask some questions: - What is the suggested way to get *secure and trusted* additional packages? I don't want packages packaged by "someone" who doesn't have the required experience and who doesn't do the packaging on a dedicated "build host" which isn't used for anything else than building packages. I tried the Dag-Repository. Seems to be well done and as Dag is member of the CentOS-Staff, I think his packages are trustworthy. Unfortunately I'm unsure if they are secure. For example there is a Drupal package which is *out of date*! So there should either be an update or the package maybe should be removed at all as it is a security hole! Is there a repository available which only has that much packages as the maintainer is able to keep secure? - My second question is about: http://www.cs.arizona.edu/people/justin/packagemanagersecurity/attacks-on-p… Yum also seems to affected, so a malicious mirror would be able to downgrade a package on a server where it's suggested to be *upgraded* to a patched version. e-SATA card well supported by Linux (CentOS) with built-in drivers and that supports hot plug

Hi, I'm looking for a good e-SATA card, preferrently one that is supported by Linux with built-in drivers (no need to compile the modules from the vendor), or at least that the vendor's drivers are packaged with dkms or something similar that makes it easy on kernel upgrades. It's essential that the card supports hot-plugging, because we want to use it to plug backup drives and have them rotated. We are testing one e-SATA drive from LaCie. We tested the Adaptec eSATA II RAID 1225SA, but just to get the module to compile right it was a huge PITA, and we still haven't gotten it to recognize our LaCie drive (we're still not sure why). Instead of spending more time making that s*#t work, I would rather buy another one, but then I would try to get one that works out-of-the box. I don't need that the card supports RAID, it really does not matter to me. Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks, Filipe

prevent runaway PID taking down server (RAM/swap)

Is there a way I can prevent processes from taking up all the ram then swap until the box crashes/freezes? I'm using IEs4Linux and the wineserver seems to start taking up RAM until my box dies, it happens slowly. fail2ban needs shorewall?

I want to try out fail2ban and notice that both, kbs-CentOS-Testing and ATrpms, have shorewall as a dependency. I do not use shorewall and have never used it. I have my own iptables/firewall script and am happy with it. Can I install shorewall without any ill effects to my current sue of iptables or would I need to use shorewall for firewalling from that point on?
