I am testing ORACLE RAC 9.2.0.8 and document say "hangcheck-timer-XXX" should include in Redhat Advance server. When I installed CENTOS 4.5, I installed "everything". I can NOT find 'hangcheck-timer" RPM in my system. can Anyone tell me where is "hangcheck-timer" RPM or where can I download it? error when atempting access to kbs repo

Hello, I'm trying to access the kbs centos repo for centos5. When i atempt to do so i get an error 14 followed by an error 404 and an error that the required xml file isn't found. I'm looking for the "Single Server CD" mentioned in this Linux article ( http://www.linux.com/articles/60825) but can seem to find it in the CentOS link provided there in the article. http://isoredirect.centos.org/centos/4/isos/i386/ All of the places serving the images have either, (a) all of the 5 cd set, and/or (b) a DVD .torrent file. I just want the ~200MB single server cd.

Centos 5 32-bit vs 64-bit question

I'm trying to install a custom greeter into a newly installed 64-bit Centos 5 system. I originally tried to modify Xsession to include xpop /path/to/text_to_dispay as the first executable line, but that didn't work. Then I read about gdmconfig which led to gdmsetup which led to custom.conf. Nothing, so far, is producing a custom banner prior to login. Is this an issue with CentOS 5, an issue with the 64-bit version, or something else I need to learn? Thanks. Scott

I'm installing NagiosQL on CentOS 4.5 and am trying to follow these instructions http://www.nagiosql.org/wiki/Documentation "....decompress the nagiosql-*.tar.gz to a directory accessible by your webserver (e.g. /srv/www/htdocs)" But since there is now /srv/www/htdocs folder on my installation, I'm not sure what to do on CentOS instead. Any advice?

dumb sendmail question -- how to get outbound messages to use "example.com" instead of hostname?

Hi List, I have a dumb sendmail question, and I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction (besides "sendmail list is two doors down on the left" ;-). One of our clients has a bunch of servers -- CentOS 5 -- that are on only a private network that's NATted to the outside world -- that is, those servers can initiate outbound connections fine, but don't have valid IPs / hostnames as far as the outside world is concerned. The problem is the hostnames of these machines don't exist in real DNS anywhere, so when they try to send mail to the outside world, other mail servers are seeing an invalid domain in the from address and summarily rejecting the messages (which makes sense). I need to figure out how to tell sendmail, when sending outbound messages, to use the domain name "example.com", instead of "subdomain.example.com". It would seem simple in /etc/mail/sendmail.mc: MASQUERADE_AS(`example.com')dnl LOCAL_DOMAIN(`example.com')dnl FEATURE(`masquerade_envelope')dnl FEATURE(masquerade_entire_domain)dnl MASQUERADE_DOMAIN(betsy.example.com)dnl (Followed by a make -C /etc/mail; service sendmail restart) This doesn't seem to work. The odd thing is that, when I send a message out to an external address of mine, the bounce back to root *does* get through successfully -- the from address at that point is "MAILER-DAEMON(a)example.com" so it allows it. custom SELinux?

I need to upgrade a server running an old Fedora version. The new OS will be CentOS 5 64bit. I want to put /var/lib/cyrus and /var/spool/cyrus (all the variable files for the Cyrus IMAP server) on the same partition like /home - this way, all the "user-related stuff", home pages and email, stays on one partition. The problem is SELinux. On Fedora, I had to customize the SELinux attributes so that SELinux would grant the Cyrus processes access to the Cyrus stuff in /home But, after doing a relabel of the whole disk, the custom attributes were wiped out. I want to avoid that on CentOS 5. So, I need to tell SELinux "hey, this stuff under /home/foobar/spool/cyrus is just like /var/spool/cyrus, don't relabel it to something else". Is BIND In CentOS 5.0 Broken?

Hi, I've just isntalled CentOS 5.0 in my machine; selected DNS server during the selection process. After the completing the installation, I wanted to configure my DNS server but it seemed that /etc/named.conf and other stuffs in /var/named/chroot/var/named directory are not there (i.e., *.zone, *.local, etc). Can anyone give me idea? This is the first time that I've tried CentOS; used to have Fedora Core and RHEL; but I know CentOS is a RHEL fork; just don't know what exactly the other differences are. Hi, I have just setup CentOS4 on a system and want to get "fancontrol" working.. I am able to get lm_sensors configured but when I run pwmconfig I am told there are no modules loaded.. What module needs to be loaded for pwmconfig and fancontrol to work? (Board does support PWM in the fans because fancontrol worked on this pc with Ubuntu) TIA

Hi, I am searching smbmount command on centOS 5. On, CENTOS 4.4, I used it as follows to backup data to a window PC. I want to do it on CentOS 5 now. mount -t smbfs -o ip=192.168.5.225,username=mailbackup,password=secret //server/mail_backups /mnt/maildaily I can not issue such command on centos 5. When I try , It gives below error. Install XGL under CentOS 5 with ATI X600 and dual-head configuration

Hi again. I've got a laptop with an ATI X600 inside, perfectly working xorg with dual head configuration, 2 desktops (without xinerama). I've got 2 xorg.conf files, one for propietary ATI (fglrx) driver, and other to use the open source driver. The difference is very notorious. The problem I have is that I read (Saint Google) that to work with compiz/beryl and dual-head configuration, I need to install XGL. That is why I wrote this message. Has anyone been installed XGL under Centos 6 using dual-head configuration and fglrx driver? Does anyone know links to tutorials/repositoris that I can use to install XGL? Does anyone know information on How-to configure XGL to allow the dual-head configuration use? My system is updated and is working perfectly with xorg. But I want to know how to run beryl in my system and make a mini how-to to configure it with xgl+fglrx+dual-head and send it to centos wiki. I have been reading info about the same, but under Ubuntu or FC distros, but it is incomplete or difficult to translate on Centos distro (at least for me). Indicaros que el sistema está actualizado y está funcionando perfectamente con las xorg. So I tried to build openoffice 2.0.4-5.4.17.2 (sans language packs) on a x86_64 from RH 5 source rpm. The build bombed after an hour elapsed and it used up about 10 GB of space with an error about missing java. So I just blew it off, erased the files written by the build and decided to wait until the rpm showed up in the updates. I don't want to repeat that exercise if 2.0.4-5.4.17.2 is destined to show up in the updates. If not, does anyone have any idea what java it needs (or what changes have be made to the spec file) to successfully build the rpm. Strange slowdown occasionally in CentOS 5.0

For some reason, parts of my system are now slowing down to an agonizing crawl from time to time. At first it was my VMWare Server 1.04, which became such a pain that I rebooted. Then, it looked like it was a network-induced thing because the prime culprit was SeaMonkey, particularly with multiple tabs open. I did an ifdown and ifup on my NIC and that seemed to help for a while. But then it hit OO and I'm baffled. It seems that the second time I open any document, particularly with OO Writer, the load and save times are dramatically extended - we're talking five to ten minutes. I don't even know what information I should include here that might help, but here's what I have running at the moment: OS/Hardware Config: OS : CentOS 5.0 (2.6.16-8.1.6 Linux kernel) x86_64 with latest updates CPU: AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+ M/B: ECS NFORCE4M-A ram: 2GB OCZ DDR2 800 (PC6400) hds: 160MB + 120MB Maxtor PATA UDMA-133 (160 is the boot drive) sds: 300GB Seagate SATA-150/300 (/boot and / are here) 320Gb WD SATA-150/300 vid: geFORCE7100gs (nVidia) PCI-E x16 lpr: Minolta QMS PagePro 1100 laser printer on /dev/lp0 mod: Agere Systems 56k WinModem (Lucent) nic: onboard (mobo-nvidia) Any suggestions or more information needed? CentOS5: Can't Access the Web Using Firefox Web Browser

Many times (not always) when I click on a URL in an email, the cursor (rotating arrow) lasts for 5-10 seconds, then nada. If I exit email to the desktop,nether the tool-bar icon, nor the Applications->Internet->Firefox Web Browser route will get me unto the web although the cursor shows a rotating arrow for a few seconds. Some other task may be executing as the hard disk is working away. Yet,I can get into Email without waiting (higher priority interrupt?). 1. Shouldn't there be a way of re-assigning priorities to the interrupts? 2. If my request has to wait, why should it be dropped completely making me re-enter the request every 5 seconds? In the market for a new (old) laptop

Changes at my day job (we have a big merger being finalized), has me in the market for a new laptop. They may require me to only run the approved XP build on the system they provide. I do not know if they will fund another unit for me or not, so I am looking to go cheap. Here is what I am looking for: Runs Centos (duh!) Supports Suspend to memory as well as to disk. Bootable from USB devices, e.g. USB CDdrive, SD card, etc. 12" LCD, ie. a small unit that can be used on a plane! Good battery life, 2nd battery an option (min 4hr battery time, perfer 8hr). Swappable drives (preferably not requing a screw driver as my old Portege or a non-findable drive carrier as my HP nc4010). Built in Ethernet, and 2 USB 2.0 ports miniPCI wireless (external antenna options would be nice!) Eraser-head mouse pointer (IBM thinkpad-style), optional addtional touchpad (I hate touchpads for D&D. Bluetooth would be nice, but own many Bluetooth USB tokens. Don't need weight, power-draw of a CD/DVD drive, got a USB one when needed. Did I say light? I will be having to drag at least 2 laptops on planes all the time now. I dislike Dells, am OK with IBM (but it's not IBM any more!), Toshiba Porteges are old friends, and HP Compaq nc4000s.... So who has what working?????

Hello list, I'm trying to compile a php4 package for centos5 and I'm stumbling across some "oddity" with the symbolic links of at least one library. But it's not a php4 problem, so read on. The package 'js' gives the library /usr/lib64/libjs.so.1 but shouldn't there be a link from /usr/lib64/libjs.so to /usr/lib64/libjs.so.1? A call to 'ldconfig' doesn't change the situation: % ldconfig ; find /lib{,64} /usr/lib{,64} | grep libjs.so /usr/lib64/libjs.so.1 To make a long story short: I can create the symbolic link on my own, that is not a problem but I'm using mock to build my RPMs and changing the root enviroment seems to be a very dark side for fixing the problem. And the mock user can't change the root enviroment because he's a simple user and not root. Is this a bug or a feature beyond my little wisdom? How can I fix this in an "appropriate" way? Hello, I think about to change my desktop system from fedora core 6 to centos 5. But on checking out if my hardware is supported by centos 5 I could not find any support for my scsi adapter which needs a advansys.ko module (Advanced System Products, Inc ABP940-U / ABP960-U). Does centos 5 has support for this adapter by default or maybe by a kernel like centosplus? regards Olaf

Super Simple question - command to see iptables nat rules

Hi there, I have been reading the man page, and i know this is something sooo simple that is escaping me at the moment, but.... I simply (from the CLI) want to see what public ip is mapped to what private IP for what ports... but want to narrow it down to particular ones... IE I have Pub IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and want to see what internal ip it is mapped to.... I know it is something along the lines of: # iptables -L -t nat ..... I tried something like: # iptables -L -t nat | grep xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx My brain is giving up on me too early today.... =-)

Retrive data from repartitioned / reformatted hard drive?

Hi, The title says it all. One of my clients showed me a 120 GB hard drive that his daughter accidentally formatted, according to him. I booted the first CD I had at hand - a Slackware 11.0 install CD - and launched cdfdisk /dev/hda. cfdisk informed me that there was even no partition table. So much for reformatting. cfdisk only shows me 120 GB of free space. Any way to retrive data on this hard drive? Some magic live distribution to read data on repartitioned / reformatted hard drives? any suggestions? thanks, Niki

Error: Module Microcode does not exist... at boot time

I have just installed Centos 5.0 from DVD. I have also run the software updates and I think everything is up to date. The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA945GM-S2 with an Intel E2140 processor. At boot time if I select show details - there is one error shown "in red", Like this: Applying Intel CPU microcode update. FATAL: Module microcode not found. ERROR: Module microcode does not exist in /proc/module [FAILED] The boot still seems to go ok - and the system seems to work - but I guess it is probably using some subset of the CPU instruction set. Can anyone tell me exactly what this means - and why the module is missing. The CPU I am using is fairly new - so I am not surprised that the Centos 5.0 release might not recognise it - but I would have thought that updates might have fixed it by now. Richard.

Google turned up LDE which claims to mimic the old "Norton Disk Editor." If you go this route, you would probably do better sticking the drive into a Linux system although you might be able to find someone who has set up a Linux recovery live CD that includes LDE. For those curious, since the devs haven't given an answer yet to the future of the Postfix with MySQL in CentOS Plus, here is the patch to add the MySQL support back into Postfix that I used in case anyone needs it. I might have messed up the naming but I tried to pick something relevant that wouldn't be later confused with what they would do too much.
