Problem with Postgresql

What I've finally done is set up a vfat partition on the on the server itself. That way, when I do a clearpart --linux in the ks.cfg it doesn't bother that vfat. Leaving the ks.cfg on there allows me to try different kickstart configurations with that server w/o having to make coasters each time. Once I find kickstarts I like, I don't mind placing them on a CD. Thanks for the help. Centos 4 and Supermicro ICH7R

Hi: I've tried to install centos 4.3 in a raid array, setuped on bios as mode "Adaptec". The chip is ICH7R but centos always sees 2 drives instead of the array that I create. I've contacted Supermicro support and they gave me this link ftp://ftp.supermicro.com/driver/SATA/Adaptec_ICH7R/Linux/Redhat/ , but the disk drivers I tried to use with centos 4.3 did not work, saying that the disk did not containt appropriate drivers for the hardware. Have anyone here had similar problems? does centos 4.4 solves this issue? I really need to install centos as an array... and as hardware RAID and not software RAID. Best Regards, Ricardo

Still unsure of the Dag Repos for CentOS 3

I have read the Wiki for the Yum stuff, and tried to pay attention to the variations for Centos 3/Centos 4 mentioned, but for the life of me, I can't seem to get the Dag repo working properly on my CentOS 3 system. I have installed the rpmforge rpm, but this doesn't seem to do much. It does create(I think it created it) the yum.repos.d folder, and I edited the Dag repos file to be enabled. But as I was told before, yum on version 3 does not use this folder. Now I can add the contents of the rpmforge.repo file directly to my yum.conf, and make this work, but is this how it is supposed to be configured? CentOS 4 CPAN problem

Not sure if this is the proper list, but I've spent days browsing for the solution. This only happens on the CentOS machine, so I'll start here. After upgrading CPAN, I get the following: undefined subroutine &Compress::Zlib::gzopen called at /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.5/CPAN/Tarzip.pm line 102. "gzopen" seems to refer to a PHP command. Am I missing a module, or have I hit a bug? KS

ASUS M2V mobo issues

We have 4 systems supported by ASUS M2V mobos with AMD2 cpus on board. No we haven't gotten CentOS of any flavor to work yet. Yes, we did load Fedora Core 6 and it worked, with respect to the SATA driver only. There is a RAID, Audio and LAN driver for Linux that comes on the M2V mobo CD. The audio driver installs and works fine on FC6. I've read many of the messages with respect to setting up the LAN driver. We've had the best success with the 1.0.4.x Attansic driver being provided by Jay Cliburn (kernel 2.6.18.x). He has been very helpful with this. He has a 2.x driver which doesn't appear to work with the 2.6.18 kernel and we haven't gotten any LAN driver to work with the 2.6.19 upgrade so we've fallen back to the FC6 2.6.18.x kernel for now. I took someone's advice and downloaded the bios flash app and tried that approach. I immediately toasted the BIOS chip. I called ASUS in Louisville, KY and they advised that I get a new BIOS chip. The conversation seemed to indicate this was not a new phenomenon. I ordered a new chip for each machine with their newest BIOS. I inserted a new chip in one of the systems and fired it up. Low and behold, the chip is not an MV2 BIOS as before, but an American Megatrends BIOS (2.45.x). It works much better and there are more appropriate settings in the BIOS now for ACPI. The plug and play drivers in CentOS 4.4 may work better with this BIOS as well since there are no onboard LAN settings in the BIOS setup. I'm hoping this means I can use CentOS on these systems now. I'll keep you posted. If you contact the http://helpdesk.asus.com <http://helpdesk.asus.com/> and call their tech support (ext 3). They'll put you in touch with a gal who will ship you the new chip for 5 bucks (5 to 10 day ground). I think it's worth it, so far. David Baker

Okay, so far so good - and many thanks to all who jumped in on this one. Now, we would like to look into making some changes in XFS, but I didn't see a SRPM for the kernel-module-xfs for 42.0.8 - the most recent one is for 42.0.3. Is this usable, or is there somewhere (else?) I can get the SRPM for the 42.0.8 XFS? Good day, I know this is simple but I cant seem to figure this out. I have firefox 2.0 installed and its running fine. The problem is how to get the system defaults to work with it. For instance, if I wanted to install the adobe rpm from their website, how do I get firefox2.0 to prompt me for the default application to install it. Or if I downloaded a .tar.gz and wanted to extract it, how to do get firefox to prompt for that default application. Wireless and kernelproblem on IBM Z61m

Just got almost everything set up on my IBM/Lenovo Z61m and now wondering if there is a graphical tool to set up wireless networking. Also for some reason the kernel 2.6.9-42.0.3 and 2.6.9-42.0.8 hang if rc.sysinit includes the sound initialization. I've tried the plus kernel also and the same thing happens there. The only one working is 2.6.9-22 but on that one networking doesn't. If anyone has any idea of how to start debuging this problem let me know. Clamav .90x that worked for me

I always update clamav from dag but this time it gave me fits. On a clean install of clamav ver .90 that I did...after first completely erasing (rpm -e clamav ...etc for all clamav files), I then installed ver 9.0 and the fix for me was to edit /etc/sysconfig/clamav-milter in 2 places: completely remove the line: dont-log-clean don't just comment it out...in the flags, it has to be removed and also on the socket line ...should start by -obl...edit it to -ol I think also in /etc/crond.conf you should also edit the commented line: #LogClean to LogClean yes I didn't edit /etc/crond.conf on this machine but am fixing to right now...although it works w/out it thx John Rose

I am running up against a less than helpful error message when trying to install php-pear-DB (why people cannot content themselves with all lowercase packages names escapes me, but that is a rant for another time and place). Initialization scripts

I'm trying to create an initialization scrip in the /etc/init.d/. Of course, the one I have is failing! At the top of the other initialization scripts in the same directory, there is are two lines, the chkconfig and description # chkconfig: 2345 55 25 # description: OpenSSH server daemon On the check config line, what are the numbers/attributes that follow? Hi Friends, I am trying to configure a blog on Centos4.0. The blog is written in php and I am not able to run the php applications on this system. php-pear-4.3.9-3.2 php-4.3.9-3.2 php-ldap-4.3.9-3.2 php-mysql-4.3.9-3. Php is installed on the system and in the httpd.conf file I have added index.php for Directory Index but whenever I try to access the blog i get the contents of the file and php is not executing. The permissions on the directory under /var/www/html/blog is set to 777 but still the problem is persisting. What should I do and where to check ? Thanks & Regards Ankush Grover

yum does not update x86_64

Hi, After a successful upgrade CentOS 3.8 i386 to CentOS 4.4 x86_64 and, after cleaning old 3.8 packages, yum does not update the x86_64 packages but just the i386's. The rhn-applet see the x86_64 updates but neither yum nor up2date see them. Hi friends, We are using centos4.0 on Dell Machines. Everytime we use top command on one of the systems, we see system usage is b/w 75.-80% and we are not able to trace who is eating this much system cpu. 02:00:06 up 13 days, 5:39, 3 users, load average: 7.12, 7.25, 7.34 76 processes: 68 sleeping, 6 running, 0 zombie, 2 stopped CPU states: cpu user nice system irq softirq iowait idle total 24.4% 0.0% 75.5% 0.0% 0.0% 0.0% 0.0% cpu00 26.4% 0.0% 73.6% 0.0% 0.0% 0.0% 0.0% cpu01 22.4% 0.0% 77.5% 0.0% 0.0% 0.0% 0.0% Mem: 6161704k av, 4758088k used, 1403616k free, 0k shrd, 103108k buff 2184012k actv, 1792248k in_d, 100068k in_c Swap: 2530196k av, 8k used, 2530188k free 3143184k cached Is there any command or utility through which we can know who is using how much cpu resources? reboot long uptimes?

Hi, I was just wondering if I should reboot some servers that are running over 180 days? They are still stable and have no problems, also top shows no zombie processes or such, but maybe it's better for the hardware (like ext3 disk checks f.e.) to reboot every six months... btw this uptime really confirms me how stable Centos 4.x really is and so I wonder how long some people's uptimes on the list are ;) rmc

Help regarding DVD burning in multi session

Dear All, I am burning DVD using growisofs command and -M option for multi session burning. Command is executing properly but when I try to mount dvd, it is displaying error and error no is 32. Therefore, I am not able to view the DVD contents. If I try to read same written DVD on Win-XP, I am able to view it all records. Can u tell me where I am making mistake. I used firestarter to get a base configuration, then I used webmin's built-in "Linux firewall" setup module. php version 4.4 / ez publish

Hi list, is there any repository on this world where I can stick to and update to a stable and hopefully secure and hopefully long supported version 4.4 of php? EZ publish's software requirements as of the current version tells me that it requires php 4.4 which doesn't meet what Centos 4.4 or its upstream provides. For a certain project I want to use ez publish. Is there any solution you see for that? Install a seperate server for that? (That's the least I wanna do). Or _does_ it work with php 4.3 under centos 4.4? Any experience? Linux on a Thinkpad R40

I've just acquired a use IBM Thinkpad R40 model 2722-GDM. I'm contemplating what to run on it, and longer-term the likely candidates are: Centos 5 SLE{D,S} 10 OpenSUSE 10.2 Kubuntu - the latest. Kubuntu - Long Life (aka 6.04, Dapper, ...) I've booted Knoppix 4 in it and most seems well, including the Atheros Wireless card Windows can't find. The major flies in the ointment are the wireless and the inbuilt modem (Agere something). Google tells me the modem can be made to work, and I'm pretty sure from my Acer that the Atheros wifi also work with some minor fiddling: I've build the driver from source. The problem is, I've done enough fiddling* over the years. I've built enough kernels, attaced enough configuration files with vim, and I want an OS that just works. I'm sure RHEL 5 will not have a driver for my wireless, and I suspect not for my modem. Now the point: do the auxilliary CentOS repos have the missing bits so that I can commit to CentOS4 (or even RHEL5 beta) in the short term, knowing that it's a simple upgrade later? How will CentOS reflect the different RHEL 5 versions? Will it simply merge them into one product, or would one expect to choose different boot media? I ask this because I see SLED doesn't have some of the stuff I want - it's in SLES though, but then SLES doesn't have the madwifi stuff. * There's fiddling and there's fiddling. I'm getting tired of doing the same fiddling all the time; it's time for new adventures. Hello list, I have bought an AVM Fritzcard PCI DSL SL (rev01) last week. Now I try to get it work without success. I figured out that currently udev and capi don´t work proper.
