Semi-OT: a docker log question

Hi, folks, Is there *any* way, other than writing my own logging driver, to get the docker daemon to write to its very own file, like, say, /var/log/docker, so that it doesn't spew crap into /var/log/messages? Thanks in advance. mark

PHP package versions

Hi everyone, http://php.net/eol.php says that PHP 5.5 and 5.4 are EOL, but a freshly installed Centos 7 box, then fully upgraded, gives me PHP 5.4.16-42.el7. What do people do about maintaining current versions of software on a variety of machines? We have some users who manage their own machines, and would rather not force them to jump through hoops of managing repos to get later versions. I just hope I've missed something straightforward, and that someone here can offer advice. TIA, Greg.

Centos and xen network bridge issue

Hi All, We have a single Centos 5.11 server running a xen hypervisor that went down hard after an extended power outage this weekend. I'm mostly familiar for KVM as that is the majority of what our guests run under and have tried getting up to speed on xen bridging to no avail. The problem is that after the xen server spun back up, the previously defined xen bridges were lost. I've been going in circles and am seeking advise on to how to restore them. I found the bridge interfaces defined in /etc/xen/scripts/network-bridge-pcl, this is what I am trying to restore. Logs/configs files are posted below. There are two guests running, one uses 'xen-dmz1' and the other 'xen-dmz2' I created 'xenbr3' somehow with an interface named after one of the guests. The server will be retired shortly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have my Firefox panel launcher set up to use 'firefox -P --no-remote' always. NoScript allow scripts globally reversible?

I'm running NoScript because otherwise Firefox freezes up a lot. Recently I've had difficulty accessing a site. I suspect the reason is that it uses redirection in a way that frustrates my efforts to give it permission. To test the notion, I'm considering temporarily allowing script globally. How hard is it to reverse? Problems with kernel-3.10.0-693.5.2.el7.x86_64

Everyone, I have two desktop units with : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700 CPU @ 3.60GHz that do not allow the login screen to appear after the update of : kernel-3.10.0-693.5.2.el7.x86_64 and kernel-3.10.0-693.2.2.el7.x86_64 Both of these units worked properly with kernel.x86_64 3.10.0-514.26.2.el7 I am not sufficiently familiar with grub to know if the problem is related to grub or related to the kernel. I have been able to boot the machines by the use of kernel.x86_64 3.10.0-514.26.2.el7. When using kernel-3.10.0-693 the login screen is blank and the login prompt is missing, however each machine is accessible via the terminal interface, or remotely with ssh. Does anyone have any ideas ? Greg

Maria 10 breaks unixodbc mysql connector

I recently installed mariadb-server 10.1 by adding the following repository: baseurl = http://yum.mariadb.org/10.1/centos7-amd64 ...all was well until we had a power failure and upon rebooting unixodbc was segfaulting. Once I did a yum undo, the mysql odbc driver was functional. I could reinstall mariadb-server, add a symlink and it would probably work, but I thought it would be better to post and hopefully the maintainer of whichever package (unixodbc, maria, mysql-connector...) should be addressed, could be alerted to this issue in the event that it could (or should) be fixed on a package level. We have been fortunate to hang onto one of our summer interns for part time work on weekends during the current school year. One of the intern's jobs is to load documents and data which are then processed. The documents are .txt, .docx, and .pdf files. The data files are raw sensor outputs usually captured using ADCs mostly with eight bit precision. All files are loaded or moved from one machine to another with sftp. The intern noticed right a way that the documents will transfer perfectly from our PPC and SPARC machines to our Intel/CentOS platforms. The raw data files, not so much. There is always an Endian (Thanks Gulliver) issue, which we assume is due to the bytes of data being formatted into 32 bit words somewhere in the Big Endian systems. It is not totally clear why the document files do not have this issue. If there is a known principle behind these observations, we would appreciate very much any information that can shared.

RH software collections

Off topic, since it is a RH question, but I'm hoping someone here can point me to the right place to pursue this: We need an official RH build of nginx that contains the lua module(s), but the nginx builds in the rh scl repository do not. Question about a bug in bugzilla

Hi, I have a CentOS 7 server which shows bug 1487266 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1487266 <https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1487266> It says, it’s fixed in java-1.8.0-openjdk-1.8.0.151-3.b12.el7 I updated this package, and now it shows as java-1.8.0-openjdk-headless-1.8.0.151-1.b12.el7_4.x86_64 So, is there another update coming or are these the same packages? Problem with graphics on latest CentOS 6

The thread "Problems with kernel-3.10.0-693.5.2.el7.x86_64” reminded me that I have a similar problem but on the latest CentOS 6 kernel I’ve been meaning to report. But on a Dell Optiplex 5050 with an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700 CPU @ 3.60GHz CPU and the above graphics card, the X11 login screen is all distorted and unusable. There is a simple solution: if I remove the "vga=0x31b” parameter from the kernel boot command it works just fine. However, I would prefer to have a usable alternate console on our 1900x1200 monitors, but any value I tried for the vga parameter results in a distorted login screen. Any ideas what may be causing this? This is only an issue on the very latest chipset. On the next most recent Dell desktops we have (Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4590 CPU @ 3.30GHz) I do not have this issue. R: dplyr, doBy, and ggplot2 in CentOS7

I have a R script that I am running from python with rpy2. On a debian system I run this: apt-get install R-cran-ggplot2 R-cran-caret And the script works. I want to move this to CentOS 7 system. There it cannot find R-cran-ggplot2 or R-cran-caret. Does anyone know what packages in CentOS 7 I need for dplyr, doBy, and ggplot2?

CentOS 6 SCL - httpd24 still being updated?

Hello, Specifically this is in reference to RHSA-2017:2483, which should increment the httpd24 packages to 25-9 in the SCL. The SA was released on August 16th 2017, so it has some age to it, but there's no corresponding CESA on it and the SCL for 6 still sits at the previous, 25-8. It's a good set of CVEs at 70+ days now. Looking for insight, or my own self initiated face palm because I'm missing something. Thanks!

systemd-journald errors

Hi all, I have 5 CentOS 7 virtual guests installed (all fully patched to latest release) and i have the following error in all of them: systemd-journald[7779]: File /run/log/journal/b4a41f4214ca44f898638301891a6f2e/system.journal corrupted or uncleanly shut down, renaming and replacing. ?? .. And I don't understand why. I have configured "Storage=volatile" in journald.conf ... How can I debug this error? Is it possible to disable systemd-journald thoroughly? Thanks -- Greetings, C. L. kmod-jfs on Centos 6

I am a bit of a noob with Linux and Centos but would like to be able to access an old external USB disk formatted JFS by OS/2. I have seen there is a kmod-jfs package on elrepo that ought to work with Centos 6 but am unsure how to install kmods without hosing my existing system... Not Able to Configure Nagios Server 4.3.4 in Centos 7

Hi Team, I was trying to install the Nagios server in Centos 7. I had downloaded and unzipped the Nagios server and it's plugins file. As per the installation instructions I ran the commands in the concerned folders of ./configure , make , make install for both the core and the Nagios plugins. I am not able to figure out the issue behind that it is not working It did got installed using yum which was a previous 4.3.2 that that had it's own errors and wanted me to update with no update of it available in the epel repository. [OT] Bash help

I know this is for CentOS stuff, but I'm at a loss on how to build a script that does what I need it to do. It's probably really logically simple, I'm just not seeing it. Hopefully someone will take pity on me and at least give me a big hint. I have a file with two columns 'email' and 'total' like this: me(a)example.com 20 me(a)example.com 40 you(a)domain.com 100 you(a)domain.com 30 I need to get the total number of messages for each email address. This type of code has always been the hardest for me for whatever reason, and honestly, I don't write many scripts these days. I'm struggling to get psuedocode that works, much less a working script. I know this is off topic, and if it gets modded out, that's fine. Transferring Thunderbird mail accounts: Windows vs. Linux

Hi, One of my clients brought me his PC with Windows 7, so I can migrate it to Linux, e. g. CentOS 7 + KDE. So far I made a backup of all the data, but I wonder how I can migrate the existing Thunderbird account. An operation I perform quite regularly is replace an existing Linux system (Ubuntu, openSUSE, Fedora, whatever) by CentOS. When Thunderbird is configured, I just backup the whole ~/.thunderbird directory and then restore it on the new installation, which usually works perfectly. Any idea if I do this when moving a desktop installation from Windows 7 to CentOS? Hi, I have installed docker and would like to run the containers without sudo. I have placed myself in dockerroot group, but still to no avail. Centos doesn't have the operator group. What should I do? Thanks in advance

Unable to apply mysqld_db_t to mysql directory

Hello, A server was configured in /var/lib/myslq in the root fs. I added a LV specifically for mysql. I stopped myql and renamed /var/lib/mysql to /var/lib/mysql.old. I created a new dir /var/lib/mysql and mounted the LV on /var/lib/mysql. I then copied with "cp -prZ" all mysql files in /var/lib/mysql.old to /var/lib/mysql. But then I got a selinux problem: # ls -ldZ mysql.old/ mysql drwxr-xr-x. mysql mysql system_u:object_r:var_lib_t:s0 mysql drwxr-xr-x. mysql mysql system_u:object_r:mysqld_db_t:s0 mysql.old/ I tried to changed the context on mysql with the following commands: # semanage fcontext -a -t mysqld_db_t "/var/lib/mysql(/.*)?" # restorecon -R -v /var/lib/mysql But the /var/lib/mysql directory didn't take the change as you can see below: # ls -ldZ mysql.old/ mysql drwxr-xr-x. mysql mysql system_u:object_r:var_lib_t:s0 mysql drwxr-xr-x. mysql mysql system_u:object_r:mysqld_db_t:s0 mysql.old/ How can I fix the wrong context on mysql directory? scp setup jailed chroot on Centos7

Dear all I'm looking for instructions on how to setup a jailed chroot directory for user which needs to upload via scp to the server. Especially I miss clear instructions about what needs to be in the jailed directory available, like binaries, libraries, etc... Without jail I get it to work, but I want to prevent user downloading for example /etc folder from the server. Does anybody have a link or list valid for Centos7 Thanks Regards Adrian

Docker log level

Hi, folks, Just installed and fired up docker for a user, and the default log level is stupidly noisy. Now, doing some googling, I see that I can set the log level on the command line. What I'd *like* to do is set the log level in the appropriate config file, which I gather is /etc/docker/daemon.json. So far, though, I can't find anything that suggests I can do that. Anyone here know if I can, and if so, what the correct syntax is? Thanks in advance.

I have a C++ program that I have been running on RedHat 6 and I want to move to CentOS 7. When I run it on the CentOS 7 system it fails with: error while loading shared libraries: libGLU.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I did this, but still have no libGLU. mounting an nfs4 file system as v4.0 in CentOS 7.4?

CentOS 7.4 client mounting a CentOS 7.4 server filesystem over nfs4. nfs seems to be much slower since the upgrade to 7.4, so I thought it might be nice to mount the directory as v4.0 rather than the new default of v4.1 to see if it makes a difference. The release notes state, without an example: "You can retain the original behavior by specifying 0 as the minor version" nfs(5) states: ** Recent kernels allow the minor version to be specified using the vers= option. For example, specifying vers=4.1 is the same as specifying vers=4,minorversion=1. ** but in fstab or on the command line, using either form (vers=4.0 or vers=4,minorversion=0), if I run mount afterwards, I still see vers=4.1 for the mount. I'm missing something obvious, but the only thing obvious to me is that I can't see it. Any help is greatly appreciated. Cheers, Zube

Firefox Sync Server 1.5 on CentOS 7

Hi, I'm currently experimenting with setting up my own Firefox Sync Server on a public server running CentOS 7, following this document: https://mozilla-services.readthedocs.io/en/latest/howtos/run-sync-1.5.html So far I have a partial success. Bookmarks are syncing via the basic internal server running on port 5000, and I can also configure a MySQL database for bookmark storage. What I can't seem to do is configure everything to run behind Apache and WSGI. Before I go into further details, has anybody here managed to get this thing to run on CentOS ? Everyone, I have had some continued difficulties in getting yum update to download and update perl-ExtUtils-ParseXS-3.18-3.el7.noarch after the update from 7.3 to 7.4 on several machines. I have had to --exclude this rpm from the command line to make the update happen. The patch for CESA-2017:2563 announced at https://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-announce/2017-August/022529.html is only available in the centos 6.9 repo. It is missing for the generic centos-6 repo at http://mirror.centos.org/centos-6/6/os/x86_64/Packages/. Typically this repo contains all the latest patches for the latest minor release, but it's missing the new version of openssh. I assume this is by mistake, but please correct me if I am wrong. NFS4 mount nobody 99 / 99

All, I've a NFS4-mount on a CentOS Client with the following parameters: (rw,soft,intr,tcp,port=2049,sloppy,addr=xxxx,clientaddr=yyyy) This mount contains a rsync /home-Backup. All home-folders are owned by nobody:nobody, stat displays uid and gid = 99. Folder permissions are 700. I'm very surprised, that I can access my own home, but no foreign folders, although it looks like permissions are all the same. There are no facls set. I cannot login on the NFS-server, but is it possible that NFS-client shows wrong permissions? - Chris

Accidentally removed sync system user

Hi, As the subject says, I accidentally removed the 'sync' system user. (If you want to know how I got to do that, I just experimented with hosting my own Firefox Sync server on a public CentOS 7 server.) When I removed the user, here's what I got: # userdel -r sync userdel : l'emplacement de boîte aux lettres de sync (/var/spool/mail/sync) n'a pas été trouvé userdel : /sbin n'appartient pas à sync, non supprimé This was the exact moment I said: uh oh! I logged in to another server, and here it is indeed: # grep sync /etc/passwd sync:x:5:0:sync:/sbin:/bin/sync OK, so it looks I shot myself in the foot. I guess I could recreate that user by issuing the following command: # useradd -u 5 -g 0 -d /sbin/ -s /bin/sync sync Since I'm not exactly sure and I wonder if I may have overlooked something, I prefer to ask first before wrecking my system entirely. Please correct me if I'm wrong. CentOS 7: shntools + cuetools

Hello there, I've had to set up some tools to convert cue+flac tuples to mp3 files and split albums flacs into songs flacs. Formerly on CentOS 6, I think I had shntools and cuetools from the nux-dextop repo (not sure about shntools). Anyway, here on CentOS 7 I couldn't find any of them in repositories, so I did `rpmbuild --rebuild` from: - cuetools-1.4.0-0.6.svn305.el6.nux.src.rpm - shntool-3.0.10-10.fc21.src.rpm and `yum localinstall`'ed the RPMs, tools run fine so far. Was it right to do so? If yes, then this email would serve the sake of the archives. Or are those tools available from repositories I'm not aware of? Regards, -- wwp

I've seen this a couple of times, and do not understand what it's trying to tell me: journal: unable to create file '/run/user/200236571/dconf/user': Permission denied. dconf will not work properly. Hello, We have a VM (under KVM - a VPS service by our ISP) running CentOS 7. On it we have 2 NFS mounts, one for backup and one as a live file system (where there are two user homes as well): ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- # cat /etc/fstab /dev/mapper/centos-root / xfs defaults 0 0 UUID=7a3ae70a-8ef3-463b-8f5b-be4e2e7be894 /boot xfs defaults 0 0 /dev/mapper/centos-swap swap swap defaults 0 0 10.201.40.34:/data/col1/noc-bkups-1 /mnt/dd2500-1 nfs auto,noatime,nolock,bg,nfsvers=3,intr,tcp,actimeo=1800 0 0 10.201.40.34:/data/col1/hesperia-mount /hesperiamount nfs auto,noatime,nolock,bg,nfsvers=3,intr,tcp,actimeo=1800 0 0 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This setup has been working fine for over a year, even under significant load, without issues. However, yesterday, the "live" NFS mount (/hesperiamount) has started crashing. When bootingeverything is fine, but very soonafter boot we noticed that we lose communication to the mount, although the remote storage system is accessible(without reporting any errors) and no network issues have occurred. We found that dmesg reports failures with call traces (2 examples): https://pastebin.com/GVSDbxFr https://pastebin.com/WujKQuHG This happens repeatedly/consistently (after several reboots) so we have been forced to replace the NFS mount with a local mount (on a new local virtual hard disk), to restore normal system operation. The share was manually mounted with the following command: # mount -vv -o auto,noatime,nolock,bg,nfsvers=3,intr,tcp,actimeo=1800 -t nfs 10.201.40.34:/data/col1/hesperia-mount /hesperiamount2 Questions: * Is this a known issue/bug? * Have we possibly made any NFS misconfigurations (which however have not caused any errors for about a year now)? * What could we do to prevent the error from occurring again? sidekiq receives SIGHUP when started via ssh -t

Hi, I have a couple of ideas how to fix it, but I'm trying to figure out what's going on first. I mainly start this program (sidekiq) on Debian systems, and it might be my first time running it under CentOS, so my conjecture is that it has to do with differences between distributions... Now then, when I run it this way: ssh user(a)example.com '. ~/.bash_profile && rvm 2.3.1@gemset1 && cd path/to/site && bundle exec sidekiq -C config/sidekiq.yml -d -L log/sidekiq.log' it daemonizes itself and stays running. When I add -t switch (ssh -t ...), it gets terminated by SIGHUP. On Ubuntu it stays running in both cases. What's happening here? Any suggestions are welcome. Regards, Yuri

delay in establishing network connectivity

hello, centos 7 If the system (wired static IP#) is powered down and stayed powered down for some period: let say 48 hours or so .... when it is rebooted again it can not establish a network connectivity for some time: 7 to 15 minutes and then everything network wise is fine... I am unable to spot any errors in various system logs. If you think this is on the OS/system side .... where do you think I should look to hunt down some parameter or settings that maybe causing this? thank you, F-
