LinuxWorld Expo Update

Well, the first day was interesting. We a variety of questions from why do we do this, what's going on with RH, how come this is the first I've heard of you. And hundreds more. The good thing is that we've recieve a very positive response from everyone that visited our booth. Such a positive response that all our CentOS CD's are gone, and most of the cAos CD's are gone, and I've only got a few CentOS DVD's left. So if anyone can magically make 500 or 600 CentOS CD's magically appear, that would be great. :-> Anyway, I'll try to keep everyone posted during the day. I installed CentOS 4 Beta on an ATA disk to have a look at it, and on the same computer I have a Windows installation on a SATA disk. In the CentOS installation process it could see the operatingsystem on the SATA and everything looked good, it said something like "Other... /dev/sda" (not quite sure, it looked right so I didn't really take note of it). Now when I want to boot the windows installation is is attempting to boot from /dev/hdd, and that disk isn't even there? I had CentOS 3 on the ATA disk before and there it did the same thing, it's not a big problem as I just have to hit Esc and select the SATA before it starts booting, but shouldn't this be corrected somewhere? brgds Ulrik -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by OpenProtect(http://www.openprotect.com), and is believed to be clean.

Dave, Is there a new kernel available for the X64 platform? Can you see this in the repo? It might explain why it hasn't upgraded. The i386 may have been the only updated kernel... While we're waiting on the keebler elves to make the new CentOS 4, what feature(s) are you most lusting after in RHEL/CentOS 4? For me: - official Mysql 4!!! ProFTP -> vsFTP Configuration Options

I am moving from a server from running Red Hat 7.2 (with ProFTP) to Centos 3 (with vsFTP). There is a setting in ProFTP that lets me set the default ftp login directory for a specific user and I would like to do the same with vsFTP. The reason being is I have a 'webadmin' user that I use for uploading web content. I am thinking I could make the home directory of the webadmin /var/www in the /etc/passwd file but I would rather it just be for FTP and leave the login home as /home/webadmin. In ProFTP this was set in /etc/proftpd.conf like so: DefaultRoot / webadmin DefaultChdir /var/www webadmin Does anyone know how I can do that? I would like the settings for the other users to work as they are now. I have been looking at chroot_list_enable, and chroot_list_file files but I don't think that is quite what I am looking for (They are both commented out by default). I may be wrong. upgrade FC3 -> CentOS-4.0-Beta

I have two boxes I want to upgrade hedwig is in a DC in Texas so I have no physical access. installed RHEL-3.1 adhoc upgrades with WBEL-3.1 packages (before I discovered yum and apt-rpm) dist upgrade to FC2 using apt-rpm rock-sand is a local development box installed FC3 on one partition installed FC2 on one partition I want to get both machines running CentOS 4.0 rock-sand is my practice machine, so I want to pretend I don't have physical access. In CentOS-3.4-Server.iso there is a pkgorder.txt with a list of the packages in (I assume) the order they should be upgraded. But there is no such file in the CentOS-4.0 distribution. Should I just use the same order but with the new version numbers? What issuses has anyone had with the move to udev?

To correct your immediate issue, add default_tkt_enctypes = des-cbc-crc des-cbc-md5 default_tgs_enctypes = des-cbc-crc to the [libdefaults] section of /etc/krb5.conf Additionally, to get ssh access working I needed to disable the use of privileged separation for sshd. Hi, First some general explanations about what this will be. There is this 's390(x)' in the Subject: and that will mean it's bi-arch annouce conserning both - s390 and s390x. If there is for example only 's390', it's about 31bit version only. hi, i'm new to linux. right now i'm using centos 3.3. i want to upgrade to centos 3.4. i haven't used yum before. i have to go through a proxy to access the internet. so i thought it isn't able to access the proxy. after some searching on the net i could set the http proxy in the /etc/profile file. i used the following lines in the file(with the actual ip address and port ofcourse). set "http://my.domain.name:port/" export proxy_http="http://my.domain.name:port/" when i became the super user and tried the command 'yum install centos-yumcache', i got the messages attached below. I know with vnc you can access virtual desktops, but is there a way to view the current desktop on a kde session? I tried changing the .vnc/xstartup and added the startkde & at the end to get the gui working, but can only get virtual desktops to show. or if there is a different software to use that someone else might know about. I really didn't realize that I had installed perl from this third-party. Would it be possible to run this without breaking anything? I have ecommerce stores running. yum remove perl-5.8.5-9.rhel3.art and then run the updater within Plesk to install their perls plus all the updates from Plesk? So we recommend downloading the 2.8.7 files above.... NEXT: un-tar.gz the files to directories in home go to your kernel source directory: edit Makefile to read the same as the installed kernel (uname -r) (delete the word "custom" at the end of the line: EXTRAVERSION = -27.0.2.Elcustom) run make mrproper run make oldconfig run make dep run make clean The above sets up the kernel source so you can build and install the i2c and lm sensors drivers correctly. cd to i2c directory under /home run make clean run make all run make install cd to lm sensors directory under /home run make clean run make all run make install do an extra depmod -a (just in case :) ) ignore any unresolved symbols messages if you get them run sensors-detect and read the outputs carefully test the lines that the sensors-detect script tells you to add to rc.local one at a time to make sure the appropriate drivers load successfully. If they do you're all set. Next: Just add the lines required to /etc/modules.conf and /etc/rc.d/rc.local and reboot. Your i2c and lm sensors stuff will start at power up. You can test the output with the sensors command. You might want to look in the /home/lmsensors ( cd /home; find . -name "sensors*.*" ) directories for the newer sensors.conf file and copy it to /etc. Modify the new one to give you the output you want. CPU temperature?

Has anyone gotten lm_sensors to work on a CentOS3.3/RHEL3 box? I think I'm having CPU temperature-related problems, and wanted some way to monitor it. I believe lm_sensors does this, but can't seem to figure out how to get it to work. I already did "yum install lm_sensors" but when I run sensors-detect, it complains: Couldn't open /proc/bus/i2c?!? at /usr/sbin/sensors-detect line 2970, <STDIN> line 3. I googled around, but there appear to be more questions than answers. I'd appreciate any help. FYI, this CentOS3.3 server is remotely managed.managed. johnn

Hi Everyone, Sorry to post right out of the gate but I'm having problems running yum upgrade on a new centos 3.4 install. I performed a minimal install of centos, this means I did a custom install but unchecked everything including cups. Error tells me to clean or rm the file...tried both to no avail. Anyone else run into this issue? How do I get beyond it? SATA Raid - final

Thanks for all the advice on setting up software RAID with SATA drives - especially to Morten Tormoen for the information on speeding up the re-sync. I have now had time to go back to the machine and start again: I now have one 300GB SATA drive on the motherboard controller and one on the PCI card and they're currently re-syncing at 48445K/Sec and will be done in 90 mins - a big improvement on 250kB/sec!!!
