Hello all, I have just installed Centos 3 and I can't help notices that the fonts are blurry. I have been using RH9 and then Fedora and the fonts there are fine, But Whitebox and Centos seem to be blurie. Can anyone tell if Cents has the Byte-code interpreter enabled in Freetype? yum fails on IBMJava2-JRE

My yum update for CentOS-2 started to fail a while ago. http://mirror.centos.org/centos-2/updates/headers/header.info mentions this line: 1:IBMJava2-JRE-1.3.1-10.i386=i386/IBMJava2-JRE-1.3.1-10.i386.rpm But that file doesn't seem to exist anywhere. So I end up with this error and it exits. getting /var/cache/yum/update/headers/IBMJava2-JRE-1-1.3.1-10.i386.hdr Error getting file http://mirror.centos.org/centos-2/updates//headers/IBMJava2-JRE-1-1.3.1-10.i 386.hdr [Errno 6] ERROR: Url Return no Content-Length - something is wrong Please help me understand how I can fix this. That might be a nice option for a testing branch, but wouldn't implementing a 2.6 kernel option go against the Centos 3 objective of reimplementing RHEL 3? Some of the 2.6 kernel enhancements have been backported in the Redhat EL kernel, if I understand correctly. fresh install - resolv.conf error?

Before I submit as a bug, has anyone else encountered -- doing a fresh, clean install of CentOS-3 results in a resolv.conf with only my secondary nameserver listed and the search domain. The install works fine, the eth0 and eth1 (onboard e100's) are detected, all the right info entered, etc -- typical by the book textmode (not GUI) install that I'd normally do with RH9/RHEL3. Static IP eth0, 2 nameservers, eth1 unused left at defaults. Anyone else confirm? Unfortunately the machine is already in production, so wiping and retrying to confirm isn't an option for me. Mounting Windows partition

Hello, I have recently installed CentOS 3.1 on my laptop and its a dual boot with XP on hda1. I was trying to mount that partion on to /mnt/XP. I have a problem here, when i say df, the listing does not show the XP partion (ntfs/hpfs filesystem). Obviously this can be diagnosed as my kernel does not have the appropriate module (Kernel version 2.4.21-9). I came to know that there is one kernel-ntfs rpm which can help us out here. Could some one get me the link for the appropriate download, as i cant find anything for that kernel version. any new suggestions are highly welcome. More details than you may want: I recently acquired a new PC chassis, with no operating system but with a Serial-ATA disk (which I was not expecting when I ordered it). I set the BIOS for legacy IDE mode and installed RedHat 9, then attempted to upgrade the kernel to add SATA support, without much luck. Searching for the SATA driver modules I found CentOS and decided to try it. I downloaded the three ISO images to another PC, burned CDs, and set about to upgrade my RH9. However, the installer never offered me the option of upgrading (keeping my existing filesystems) -- no matter what steps I tried using when starting the installer, by the time it got to the page for disk partitioning it always wanted to start from scratch and blow the existing partitions away. I finally concluded that I hadn't put anything important on the disks during my struggle with RH9, so I went ahead with the clean install. Upgrading Heavily Modified RH9 Machines

Hello, I have several heavily modified RH9 machines (custom kernels, reiser FS, etc.) Just wondering if CentOS could do an upgrade install on machines such as this? I know it's always better to do a clean install, but these machines have been tweaked a lot over the last year and are running perfectly (a lot of time and effort went into this)... an upgrade install would be great. kernel with multi-LUN SCSI support

I am running CentOS 3.1 and everything is working beautifully except my HP12000e tape library that requires multi-LUN support. Every time I re-compile the 2.4.21 kernel with the multi-LUN SCSI option, I get the multi-LUN to work but something else breaks. Is there a pre-compiled kernel somewhere that is similar to the stock CentOS kernel except that it includes the multi-LUN feature? thanks! paul

An update has been released to centos-yumconf , the yum configuration file for centos because it was not set ot check the gpgkey on the packages ity installed. It was assumed that if there was a key then it would be checked, but that is not the case, it has to be explicitly enabled per repo. https://bugzilla.caosity.org/show_bug.cgi?id=543 refers The updated file is :- http://mirror.centos.org/centos-3/3.1/updates/i386/RPMS/centos-yumconf-1-7.… and should be on all mirrors within a few hours. If you run 'yum update' then the package will be automatically updated, however if you run yum against a local, non mirrored repository, or you have edited yum.conf then you may not pick up this update, in which case you should edit yum.conf to add gpgcheck=1 to each repo stanza. CentOS 3.1 has now been released

Thanks to all who have tested - CentOS 3.1 has now been released. .... The release includes all security updates for rhel released by 18th March. For now further security announcements will be posted to both the centos(a)caosity.org and centos-devel(a)caosity.org mailing lists. .... CentOS-3 also now includes the rhel documentation, both on the cds (cd3 /docs) and also on the mirrors in the 3.1/docs/ directory. .... There were some problems with build 8 that mean that you will need to run a script to update to 3.1 - see http://mirror.centos.org/centos/upgrading-to-3.1.txt for details. .... All rpms in 3.1 are now signed with the CentOS-3 gpg key , as is the list of md5sums on the server. .... A bittorrent is available to download a dvd iso image :- http://mirror.centos.org/centos/3.1/isos/Centos-3.1-i386.dvd.iso.torrent This may be slow initially, but as more people use it then it will speed up. Bittorrent rpms are available in the testing repo of builds 7,8 and 3.1 . .... Cannot install

Hi, Beta 8, selected server & developer. The installation goes into a loop on disk 2, with the error, that it cannot read zlib-devel... claiming that either the file is corrupted or the drive is not working. The disk is OK: md5 ok The file is OK, I can open it on the same machine in Windows and see the files within the rpm. Any suggestion? -- Thanks syv(a)911networks.com

build7 isos dont fit on a normal 650M CD-R

The build7 isos (at least disk1 and disk2) dont fit on a normal 650M CD-R. There was a silent update of the isos on the 28th of february which inlcuded moving some development packages from disk3 to disk1 and disk2. What is the rationale behind this reorganization? How does this affect the installation? BTW moving kernel-unsupported and kernel-source to disk1 would also be something to consider if the reorganization does not effect the distribution otherwise. Centos 3 Build 7 installation problem

Have any encounter this before when try to do a full centos 3 install? The package libgcj-ssa-devel-3.5ssa-0.20030801.41 cannot be opened. This is due to a missing file or perhaps a corrupt package. This error pop up when it is reading disc #3.
