Hello I'm using centos 7. At uncertain times I suddenly get the following error. The system is panic. Then it restarts automatically. I have updated the package ( pkla-check-auth ) but the problem persists. My virtualization environment is KVM. (Host Centos7 , Guest Centos7. CentOS Dojos, 2020 (And call for volunteers)

Hi, folks, I would like to (slightly) expand our number of CentOS Dojos in 2020. (If you're not familiar with the concept of Dojos, please read https://wiki.centos.org/Events/Dojo/ and perhaps attend our event in Brussels in January! https://wiki.centos.org/Events/Dojo/Brussels2020 ) For 2020, we have tentatively 3 planned: * FOSDEM Dojo (Jan 31) * Oak Ridge National Labs (September) * CERN (October, I think) Dojos are typically held one of three places: * Colocated with an existing tech event (like the FOSDEM event) * At a business, or research org, like ORNL/CERN * At a University, targeted at students (We have done events at Univ Cincinnati, Univ Kentucky, Boston University, and are hoping to do something at UTenn in 2020) If you are interested in hosting a Dojo, please get in touch with me. I can offer some budget, planning logistics, promotion, and help finding speakers. Centos 8 install of squirrelmail

Hi, I am trying to install Squirrelmail on Centos 8 but it seems that package is missing in the EPEL repo for Centos 8? Anyone know if this was on purpose or how to tell which packages won't be created? Thanks, Earl

yum update was run 23.10.19 and then 05.11.19 to the beginning of the update 5.11.2019 kernel logging to /var/log/messages was ok. During the update at 5.11.2019 logging to /var/log/messages finished. I persume, this bug began during processing updates. yum-log shows: ........... Nov 05 14:56:54 Installed: virt-viewer-5.0-15.el7.x86_64 Nov 05 15:59:28 Installed: nbdkit-1.8.0-1.el7.x86_64 ........ kernel logs ended 14:56. several VMs have suddenly quit working, in VBox.

Hi all! I have several VMs, all in virtualbox 6.0.14 and all the VBOX add-ons are up to date. I don't use them daily, last used any of them probably 4-6 weeks ago, pretty sure it was already running 6.0.14 by that time. they were all fine when last used. Two of them are C7, one is a clone of the other, and the other is C8. each seems to have different symptoms. the C7 clone claims there is no initramfs, no matter which kernel I try to boot. CLAMD and EXIM - anyone got it working`

Has anyone actually got CLAMD and EXIM working? I've just had a go on a new VPS server without success. The only thing that happened was that my server slowed because clamd was hogging CPU. I have done a lot of googling and all I found was a couple of howto's that said the same thing, and my questions from 2015 which is the last time I tried this. I can get clamd / freshclam etc installed, although from the two howto's I worked from I had to edit / create service files and edit config files. However, I still do not manage to get a clamd.exim socket created on my system.

External HD partitioning & formatting considerations

Hi, One of my clients has a mixed Linux/Mac OS/Windows environment in his office. He just purchased a 4 TB external hard disk, which he intends to use on his various workstations. Up until recently, I've been using plain old MBR/FAT for hard disks in mixed environments. Fire up fdisk, make one big 0b type partition, and then format it using mkdosfs. Unfortunately, there's a 2 TB limit to that. Of course, I could still use a GPT partition, but then I'd still have to format it using a "common denominator" filesystem, e. g. FAT... which is also limited to 2 TB as far as I know. So what now? Use Windows 10 to format the disk using NTFS? This, Windows and Linux could use it, and I'd have to check if Mac OS can manage NTFS file systems. A few years ago, it didn't. Any suggestions? systemd: Failed unmounting /var on reboot, should I worry about fs corruption?

Hi all, I have Centos 8 installed on a physical machine (www6) with separate LVM volumes for /, /var, /var/lib/mysql etc. System boot proceeds without a hiccup, in terminal systemctl status says everything is OK and running, journalctl says so as well - systemd mounts everything stated in fstab. However, on reboot systemd echoes problems with filesystem on /var : ...// unmounting all volumes Nov 26 23:51:30 www6 systemd[1]: Unmounting /var... Nov 26 23:51:30 www6 umount[2118]: umount: /var: target is busy. Nov 26 23:51:30 www6 systemd[1]: Stopped target Swap. Nov 26 23:51:30 www6 systemd[1]: Deactivating swap /dev/disk/by-label/lv_swap... Nov 26 23:51:30 www6 systemd[1]: var.mount: Mount process exited, code=exited status=32 Nov 26 23:51:30 www6 systemd[1]: Failed unmounting /var. Then proceeds and reboots the machine. This occurs on every reboot. Did anybody here encounter similar problems on reboot? I found this bug https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/867 which was closed without a definitive solution, the developer says the issue is hard to solve and just cosmetic since /var gets unmounted in the end anyway, which is strange because there is a log line about unmounting just about every other mountpoint and in the end of the journal, there are about 7 log lines about unmounting swap volume, but zilch about /var. If the system is getting down without proper unmount, data corruption can happen. I would feel much better if there were no such errors... Help with dracut install CentOS 8

I am trying to specify a static IP on the new dracut format. I was using this: http://man7.org/linux/man-pages/man7/dracut.cmdline.7.html So my grub entry consists menuentry "Install CentOS 8" { linux /boot/vmlinuz noverifyssl ks=https://something ip=192.168.1.3::192.168.1.1:255.255.255.0::eth0:on:192.168.1.1 biosdevname=0 net.ifnames=0 ksdevice=eth0 inst.sshd sshd=1 initrd /boot/initrd.img } This seems OK to me. But rebooting to start the install for CentOS 8 it just stops and says "system halted". the lines above that have no errors. .3 is the IP I want to use .1 is the GW and the Nameserver in this case.
