i can't install centos on my poweredge 2950

hi i m trying to install centos5 on my poweredge 2950 with no luck. the raid controler is LSI Logic / Symbios Logic MegaRAID SAS 1078 (rev 04) indeed all is going fine during the installation but when i reboot the server panic the first error i got is this one error mounting /dev/root on /sysroot as ext3: block device required it seems that it can't find the /dev/root devices. but when i boot in rescue mode the / partition is found without any problem. i can chroot in it i have tried with 5.5 and 5.4 x86_64 but i always got the problem. i m really stuck with that :( Does someone has an idea of what could happened?

Yum presto, using deltarpms, is the solution to your problem; OpenOffice.org and KDE, in particular, delta very well indeed; I've seen (on Fedora, which has presto enabled on the main repos) 90% reductions (that is, if an update set is 500MB, you only have to download 25MB of deltarpms) and even greater in updates of these. Dovecot attack

It seems there was some kind of attack against dovecot on my server (CentOS-5.5) with a hundred or so logwatch entries like: ========================================= **Unmatched Entries** dovecot-auth: pam_succeed_if(dovecot:auth): error retrieving information about user admin dovecot-auth: pam_succeed_if(dovecot:auth): error retrieving information about user webmaster ========================================= I googled for this, and it seems quite a common occurrence. Basically, I'm wondering whether this is best met at the dovecot level, or at my firewall? aide rpm requirement

I normally don't have yum upgrade anything automatically, but a server that I didn't set up does just that. Last night, aide was upgraded, and then failed to run due to "libgcrypt mismatch". Shouldn't the rpm spec file for aide deal with the libgcrypt problem (meaning I think it should be part of the requirements to upgrade libgcrypt whenever aide is upgraded as some sort of dependancy)? Need tip on an inexpensive printer for college student using CentOS 5.5

Sending my son back to college with a dual-boot laptop with Win 7 and CentOS 5.5. He uses Win7 to manage his iPod and SW that sometimes issued by a professor for a specific course...otherwise he uses CentOS for everything else. That setup worked well last year, except for printing. He has a low-end Cannon printer that is not supported in the Linux realm. Most of his coursework was uploaded to "Blackboard" and rarely did he have to print anything. On the rare occasion when he had to print a paper/briefing, his work-around was to build the paper/briefing in OO, save in Office 2003 format on a USB drive, boot to Win7, load in MS Office and print to the Cannon printer. I'm looking to clean that mess up for him before sending him back to school. Looking to buy an inexpensive printer he can use on both sides of this laptop. Any suggestions? Dave M

Cannot set MTU != 1500 on Intel NIC
